so i've spoken before abt how jace might've insisted on postponing his and baela's wedding till after the dance (despite ample opportunity/mutual desire) bc his love for her wanted to give her a ceremony without death looming over it. and that his fear for her compelled him not to wed and inevitably bed her when the tragedy of three harrowing labors might take what should be a joyful time away from them and - even more than that - take his beloved baela from him.

but what if, and bear with me for a moment, what if beyond rhaenyra and laena and rhaenys - all three women robbed, in some way shape or form, of a queendom - jace's thoughts took him to another targaryen ancestor, robbed of her birthright, burdened with the loss of her husband, and left alone to defend and protect their children from usurpers? maybe i'm just spitballing but what if jace's nights during the dance were haunted by the memory of rhaena targaryen, black bride, queen of the west, queen of the east, and whose ghost yet haunts the halls of harwin's his father's home at harrenhal?

what if he sees his baela, bold and brave and so beautiful, and knows - gods willing - he'll make her his queen. what if jace sees her and wants so many things for her but not one of those things is to make a rhaena targaryen of her. rhaena who was queen of the west and queen of the east but never ruled as queen of westeros in her own right - and, in trying to spare baela of that fate, jace dies anyway.

and she becomes a bit like rhaena regardless: robbed of her love and her crown.

I’m back with another drawing of a targ woman based on Roman art! I know, you’re thrilled. ;)

Anyway this time it’s Rhaena, the eldest sister of Jaehaerys and Alysanne and the first rider of Dreamfyre. She was the mother of Aerea Targaryen, who stole Balerion and ended up dying horrifically after going to Valyria. She was at least bi, and probably a lesbian (she seemed to love her brother/husband Aegon the Uncrowned, but after he died she didn’t consensually participate in another romantic relationship with a man.). Her life was long, eventful, and tragic. She was also known as the queen in the west, and then the queen in the east, she should have been crowned but was passed over on account of being a woman (Although Jaehaerys would still have been crowned eventually d/t Rhaena’s lack of heirs.). She lived in deep emotional pain and eventually died alone after haunting the halls of Harrenhall for years. Yet, she was fierce enough to threaten the Lord of Storm’s End when he killed her mother by getting her with child. after Alyssa’s death - a death given to Aemma in HotD - Rhaena flew to Storm’s End and told Rogar Baratheon that she would kill him if he married again. She’s another of my favorite Targaryen women, and I’d love to see her story told on screen some day.

The Crowns of Aegon Prince of Dragonstone and Rhaena, and their legacy

Aegon had been celebrated as Prince of Dragonstone when it was announced by his father Aenys he would be king.

Unlike Aenys, Aegon was way braver than him and travelled around Westeros to see his people, it may have taken him a while to claim a dragon but we can not say Aegon lacked courage.

Aegon was willing to fight for what his grandfather created and what his father would give to him.

Far more charismatic than Rhaena, but willing to respect her and show she was and would always be his queen.

Rhaena is usually accounted as a Queen due to her sworn vow to her youngest brother Jaehaerys as a Queen per Alliance, and everyone in history recognizes Aegon the Uncrowned as the rightful heir despite having been usurped.

Rhaena recognized her brother-husband Aegon as the king as well, and of her three husbands Aegon was the only one she truly loved.

Rhaena in the beginning had to deject her own claim and that of her daughters but she still wanted them to be recognized.

The world didn't get them to actually rule, but Rhaena and Aegon were the King and Queen Westeros deserved and didn't get.

It wouldn't surprise me as well if Rhaena kept using her crown years later when she was considered a Queen per Alliance as a homage to the love of her life and king Aegon the Uncrowned Prince of Dragonstone and Second of his Name.

Rhaena wanted to be recognized as queen by Aegon's side and then by her own merit.

I would imagine for Rhaena to give her crown to Rhaella, and Rhaella to make a hallow that is given to blessed people.
