Some details of marginalia and illuminations in MS. M. 639, an 11th-century Byzantine Greek gospel from Constantinople. (Now held in the Morgan Library in New York.) Check out the incredibly intricate and colorful borders on the biblical scenes, the three vaguely disgruntled dudes in sleeping bags, the annotations and rubrics in red ink, and the bilingual Latin-Greek header on the first page. Also, if you are bored and need something to do, want to stare at pretty pictures, are looking for research material, or just desire to kick some idiot claiming that the medieval world "had no art" directly in the nards, I strongly advise exploring all the digital images of the various medieval and renaissance manuscripts in the Morgan's collection.

Brought to you by me and the amazing @queengiuliettafirstlady, this content creation challenge is a week-long exploration of the trope Alternative Universe!

→ GENERAL RULES

Works of all forms are welcome! Fanarts, fanfics, headcanons,...whatever your heart desires.

Limited to otome fandoms - IkeSeries (Ikemen Vampire, Ikemen Prince, Ikemen Sengoku, Ikemen Revolution, etc.); Tears of Themis; Obey me!; Mr Love: Queen's Choice; Light and Night; Voltage games; Mystic Messenger and others, as well as Visual Novel otomes.

This challenge takes place between June 13th and June 19th, 2022. The deadline for posting your works is June 25th (up until midnight, UTC+2).

On June 26th @queengiuliettafirstlady will publish a masterlist enlisting all works linked along with their creators. Don't hesitate to contact us if your work was done within the deadline but wasn't featured in the masterlist. Or, if you prefer not to be featured on the masterlist at all!

When posting your works, use the tag #different universe same love ccc - you can as well tag @xxsycamore and @queengiuliettafirstlady in your posts! It will help us find your work easier!

Posting to other sites is allowed - as long as you mention the challenge and its creators.

This challenge uses a total of 14 prompts, two for each day. You're free to create a work based on whichever one you like more for that day. You can also create works for both prompts, and you can also mix the two prompts into one work! Whatever suits you :) You can create more than one work for the same prompt, too!

You can find the list of prompts on the banner above, as well at the bottom of this post.

Under the cut you will also find a short explanation of each prompt, just in case there is anything unclear about them.

Any additional rules are up to the content creators. Modern AU - moving the characters from non-modern setting to modern setting (they could be going to school, having jobs, etc. you have much freedom with this prompt!)

Historical AU - contrary to above, moving the characters from a modern setting to a specific time period (ex.: Ancient times, The Renaissance, Victorian Era, etc. )

Celebrity AU - placing your character(s) in a setting where they're famous. Other characters could be their fans; working with them, meeting them by chance...

Person of the arts AU - Character(s) who are artists, writers, singers, dancers, actors, everything linked with different forms of art.

Enemies AU - placing your characters in a setting where they're enemies (working in rival organizations, or maybe having a hero/villain dynamic.)

Soulmates AU - a setting where everyone has One True Love and the ways of finding it varies depending on the creator. An example of a popular Soulmate AU is "Your soulmate's name is written on you".

Mythology AU - a setting where the characters are beings from various mythologies.

Fantasy AU - basically everything to do with fantasy, let your mind run wild!

Academia AU - academic institutions of any kind, characters might be high schoolers just as they might be college professors, and anything inbetween.

Small Shop AU - combining the famous Coffee shop AU, Flower shop AU, Pet store AU, Bookstore AU... basically any kind of small shop business.

Domestic/Family life AU - Characters are settled down/have moved out in their own home, and/or started a family.

Role Reversal AU - also called Role Swap AU, a setting where two or more characters swap their roles/alignments, changing plot events. For instance, the MC might take the role of a suitor, and her love interest might take on the role of MC.

FREE DAY - The last day of this challenge is for you to choose your own prompt! It can perfectly well overlap with an already existing prompt. Maybe your favorite Alternative Universe wasn't in the list above? This is your chance to include your idea in the list :)

Transiting Pallas Athene enters Cancer, pre-Retrograde Zone

Tuesday, September 6, 2022, 04:58 UT - Thursday, September 29, 2022, 15:08 UT

Disclaimer: unless Pallas Athene is a player in your chart, this transit probably won’t have much of an impact on you. (“Player”= in close aspect to the Sun, Moon, and/or an angle.)

Next, you may have noticed the fateful words “pre-Retrograde Zone” in the header. This means that:

Pallas Athene is going to enter that Retrograde Zone in the not too distant future; and

Pallas Athene is going to stay in the sign Cancer for a long time - until May 2, 2023, to be precise.

We have a bit over three weeks before the Rx Zone starts up, so let’s use the time by doing a little prep work. Pallas Athene’s areas include:

Creative wisdom and strategic intelligence - emotional intelligence will be important; we’ll need to work on that quite a bit. Dolt 45 isn’t connecting with his cult members because he’s such a powerful representative of book-smarts, you know. And remember how in Star Trek Kirk always beats Spock at three-dimensional chess? Pallas Athene/Cancer can use its intuition and its emotional sensitivity to win out over pure airy intellect.

Arts and artisans - Pallas Athene is a weaver, remember? My natal Pallas Athene is in Cancer, and when I knit and crochet, I feel a kinship working back through all my mothers before me. In other words, fiber artists rejoice! We will look into “older” techniques and patterns, and will want to create comfortable things for our families. We might see a mini-renaissance of “folk” type crafts, things to keep the old homestead/farm in good working order, and the family well fed and sheltered.

Political activism - Cancer is patriotic, and this transit can be sloppily maudlin. It would be nice to see not only some concern with children’s rights, but an actual plan to protect them. (And not the typical US politician’s “BuT tHiNk Of ThE cHiLdReN” either.) I wonder if free school lunches will be important?

Professional excellence - one downside of Pallas Athene through Cancer, is more of the “your workplace is your family” corporate nonsense. Issues around telecommuting and working at home may arise. There will be concerns about working parents, too.

It is fairly smooth sailing for Pallas Athene as she begins moving in Cancer. The only real problem happens the weekend of September 17-18, when Pallas Athene/Cancer will square both Mercury Rx/Libra and Jupiter Rx/Aries. In other words, a Cardinal t-square. All three of those thingies are associated with education; this being a Cardinal sign means it isn’t a brand-new problem, but something we’ve known about for a while but have blown off dealing with. Mercury is Rx in Libra; diplomacy isn’t working. Jupiter is Rx in Aries; crusading isn’t working either.

hii can i ask how do you find/pick your fic headers? they're so prettyyy

Hi there, Anon! Thank you so much for this! I did make a really lengthy post here about the very same topic, if you're interested in reading that, but here's a shorter version:

Basically Pinterest ha. I guess they have an easier way of finding the kind of thing you're looking for. In my previous fic, I wanted like an 80s retro diner advertisement-kind of theme and it was able to give me something close to that.

I know Pinterest isn't really the best place, since images are stolen sometimes and there's of course, the rampant use of AI, but I try my best to track down the original creator of the work and credit them. Usually they have their own websites, like professional photographers or artists, a Behance page or at least social medias I can link back to.

I pick my headers based on the general idea of the fic or if I'm particularly keen, hide a couple of easter eggs/references. Paintings - medieval work, Renaissance-era, etc; photography or like these symmetrical shots to be more specific referencing a setting or a theme; drawings, album art, collages, you get the idea.

I really wanted to reference this Ancient Egypt tradition (specifically Kemetism) where they break red clay pots containing things they want to leave behind on New Year's Eve in the new year's eve work I wrote. (Nora doesn't break pots in this one, but she burns bits of paper with stuff written on it and I was largely inspired by that bit of history that propelled me to write this), but I didn't find any image that specifically references that and y'know visually appealing, Tumblr-friendly yada yada yada. Or even references the culture of 'burning/destroying things to leave it behind in the past'

Maybe there's one and I just ran out of time. (Yes, there was a tumblr post about the Wep Ronpet tradition, no I have no idea how to locate it back again, as it was reblogged from this post. However it is mentioned here and here)

Before this gets way too rambly, I'll stop here lol. Thanks so much for this! I love, love, love talking about the subtextual references in my work lmao. There's something so appealing about it and waiting for someone to catch on and it makes your day.

Honestly part of my brain is like "YOU MAKE SAM CHOOSE BETWEEN HER BABIES??????" and the other part of my brain is going "Literally all of them are garbage and even they know it" lololol so doing this was really hard for me. But I've chosen and I'm posting this before I can think too much about it and change my mind.

Kheresankh - I know I haven't exactly published much of anything for this story, so I linked the prologue of the first installment, but my OC Danai has been in the works for so long and I am honestly just so proud of what I have written for her. I can't wait for you all to go on this journey with her, all through the Clone Wars, to her meeting Rex, and everything that comes after. Also, my headers for this story slap 💅

Just This Once - This was the first smut piece I had ever published. In all my years of fanfic writing, this was the first smut piece I was truly confident enough in to publish. As someone who identifies as asexual, I truly wasn't ever sure if my smut writing was very good, just cause I have no personal experience with that sort of thing. What reads as "sexy" to me might be really weird to others. But, I'm a total whore for Cody, like, legitimately, so I went for it, and the response was just so much more than I could've ever hoped for. This piece genuinely does just hold such a special place in my heart and I'm very proud of it.

Welcome to the Faire - Okay this one only has a hint of a pairing to it (with Thrawn; I am unfortunately, unspeakably attracted to him 😔) but honestly, I'm proud of it. It's very narrative heavy, and I know that isn't for everyone. But I've been thinking about this piece lately cause I went to the Renaissance Festival again last weekend (where I spent a truly obscene amount of money and regret absolutely nothing), and the Ren Faire was the original inspiration for this piece. But people also told me that they felt I really captured Thrawn's voice in this, and honestly, there are fewer compliments better to receive than this one as a fanfic writer.

Midnight - My newest piece! This Boba smut fic really took me out of my comfort zone as a writer, because I just don't really have much insight into the d/s scene and brat-taming. But I still tried to do it and Boba justice while adding in some fun and feelings to the piece. It's new, I literally posted it last night, so there's not much feedback yet, but I'm still quite proud of it. It also ended up being longer than I intended, and I love giving you guys long fics to read!

The Coffee House - And of course, how can I not list the story that completely helped my blog take off. In a way I never expected or could've hoped for. Commander Fox was always underrated in my opinion, and I wanted to explore him a little bit more, but then I found @amikoroyaiart and her art of Fox is just so fantastic. I became obsessed. And I started wanting to write my own coffee shop story for him. Thus, The Coffee House was born, and six parts later, there's a plan for at least six more. It's kind of slow going, but I love this story with all my heart and I'm so glad to share some fluffy, coffee shop goodness with you all.
