Remote Terminal Unit: Its Advantages and Applications
Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) is a type of control unit used in industrial automation and process control. RTUs are used to transfer data between controllers, actuators, and other devices on a plant floor. They are also used in plant monitoring and diagnostics applications.
What is a Remote Terminal Unit?
A Remote Terminal Unit, or RTU, is a device that connects a computer to a remote server or office. RTUs are used in a variety of settings, such as in libraries, schools, and businesses. They allow users to connect to a computer remotely and access files and programs. RTUs are also used in telecommuting situations, such as when a worker needs to work from home but wants to use the same computer they use at the office. RTUs come in different sizes and shapes, and they can be connected to a computer through a USB port or an Ethernet port. They can also be connected to a telephone line or the Internet. There are many different applications for RTUs. For example, they are used in libraries to allow users to access the library’s electronic resources from outside the library. They are also used by businesses to allow employees to work from home. RTUs are relatively inexpensive devices, and they offer several advantages over traditional methods of connecting computers to remote servers or offices. For example, they allow users to connect from anywhere with an Internet connection, eliminating the need for a dedicated network connection or VPN connection. Additionally, RTUs are portable, making them ideal for use
Benefits of a Remote Terminal Unit
Remote terminal units offer many advantages over traditional terminal units. Here are just a few:
- Increased Efficiency: With a remote terminal unit, users can work from anywhere in the world. This increases efficiency and productivity because employees can work on projects without having to travel to the office.
- Reduced Costs: A remote terminal unit can reduce costs by eliminating the need for employees to travel to the office for work. Additionally, remote terminal units can save on expenses such as transportation and lunch costs.
- Increased Communication and Cooperation: Remote terminal units allow employees to communicate with each other more effectively because they are not limited by distance or time. This allows for more cooperation between employees and greater efficiency in the workplace.
Advantages of a Remote Terminal Unit over Other Forms of Communication
A remote terminal unit (RTU) is a communication device that allows operators to control machines and devices remotely. RTUs are advantageous in a number of ways, including the following:
-They are fast and reliable. -They are easy to use. -They are secure. -They can be accessed from anywhere in the world.
Applications for a Remote Terminal Unit
Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) are becoming increasingly popular for a variety of applications, including data acquisition and control, process control and automation, and field services. Here are four reasons why you might want to consider adding an RTU to your operation:
1. Increased Efficiency
With RTUs, you can achieve increased efficiency by taking advantage of electronic data exchange (EDX). This technology allows you to send commands and data between devices over a network in real time, which can save you time and money.
2. Reduced Staffing Costs
Because an RTU can be used to replace dedicated hardware or software devices, it can reduce staffing costs. Additionally, because RTUs offer flexibility and convenience, they can be used in areas where dedicated equipment is not available or is not necessary.
3. Increased Productivity
By using RTUs, you can improve productivity by reducing the amount of time needed to perform tasks. In some cases, this may even allow you to outsource certain tasks to an RTU.
4. Improved Safety Standards Compliance
As technology advances, so do safety standards. By using an RTU, you can ensure that your operations meet all current safety standards without the
Conclusion
The remote terminal unit (RTU) has been around for a while now and its popularity is only increasing. In this article, we will discuss the advantages and applications of RTUs. We hope that this information will help you make an informed decision about whether or not to invest in one, and give you some ideas on how you can use it to improve your business. Read More

Ablative Humanity
An old story about mechsuits and identity, copied from my former twitter account (originally written on August 10th, 2018).
So the war comes, and we have to use mechanical exoskeletons to have any chance of fighting back. They're mind-linked, so you control them by just thinking of moving, and they learn from you to get better, predict your motions, and you become a better fighter.
At first you're just wearing it for when you go out on raids, or when you're on guard duty, but after so many surprise raids you end up wearing it all the time.
it's comfortable enough to live in, and with the sensors hooked up you don't really feel "you" anymore, you feel the suit. After a while it starts to feel weird when you have to take it off for a medical check up.
In the early days, you felt "big" in the suit. now you feel "small" when you take it off. You stop taking it off, as much as possible. towards the end of the war you're wearing it for weeks at a time, then months at a time.
Finally, the enemy is pushed back. Security can exist again, the random raids slowly trail off, and slowly things settle down. you remember what "calm" is.
There's never a treaty, but at least you're no longer staying up for days at a time watching the horizon with the suit's far-beyond-human eyes, watching for an attack. You're no longer keeping a satellite feed up in the corner of your vision, watching for movement.
And the day you were waiting for, at least at first, finally comes. You're going home. The war is over, or over enough that you're no longer needed here. You can take off the suit for the last time, and go back to your pre-war life.
You approach that appointment with some trepidation. you've felt so weak and tiny and powerless when you've had to be outside the suit before, will you ever get used to being a normal human again?
It takes three techs and 2 doctors to get the suit open at this point, given all the armor and modifications that have been made. it's basically grown around you like a second skin, just a second skin that can shrug off high-explosive anti-tank rounds.
They start with computer connectors and migrate to screwdrivers and by the end they're using something that looks like halfway between a crowbar and the jaws of life, while you're busy keeping your automatic self-defense reactions from frying them.
And finally they crack it open, and someone vomits from the smell. There's nothing but a decaying corpse inside.
There's confusion at first, someone asks if you're controlling the suit remotely, but they check the dogtags. Then the DNA. It's you. or, "you". Cause you're you, aren't you? This is just a human body... and you're still alive.
The suit's mind-link systems grew into your brain and took over functionality and worked on emulating your reactions so it could do what you want, better, faster.
And at the same time, your mind did what human minds do: they adapt. Humans are naturally cyborgs, you only have to pick up a pencil to realize that. It's part of your body image, and you think of moving the pencil, not moving your fingers to move the pencil.
So your human mind got more robotic, and the suit's computerized mind got more human. At some point you met in the middle.
And then one day on the battlefield when the biological half died, you didn't even notice. It was just another redundant part, just your ablative humanity.
You're still you. You're not the you that was born all those decades ago, but the you that was built and given life by bonding with a biological "you" that you've since discarded.
It's the Ship of Theseus, replacing every plank and beam as they rot, and there never being a point when it stops being the original and starts being a new thing. You have continuity of self from when you were born to now.
It's just that the Ship of Theseus started as a single-sail wooden ship with oars, and is now an aircraft carrier made of titanium and iron, with nuclear fire in its heart.

An expensive temperature sensor.
I bought this a few years ago to connect to our Rinnai propane heater. It didn’t happen because I couldn’t fish the wires down the wall, and tearing out the beadboard and sheetrock seemed like more trouble than it’s worth. So back in the box it went.
Until today.
We now have 5 mini-split heat/air units - Mitsubishi.
They sell thermostat kits for them. $350 each.
We have a Hubitat home automation system. I like it a lot. Well someone wrote a driver for these units that uses a $4 board and $3 worth of connectors.
It also requires an MQTT broker, which will run on a raspberry pi. I have a few of those laying about.
I also have some Z-Wave temperature sensors that I can deploy.
The temperature sensors report back to Hubitat, and will turn on/off the unit depending on what I have programmed, based on TOU rates and also outside temperatures. This can also be overrided by the otherwise useless remotes.
The lone Ecobee will act as a real thermostat, but instead of being directly wired to the Mitsubishi head unit (also very expensive), it will communicate with Hubitat, in fact, it already is. There is a built in driver for those T-stats.
I’m just waiting for the bits and pieces to come in.
And people still worry I’ll be bored in retirement.

just a random list of Jewish websites I find exceedingly helpful as resources:
myjewishlearning (basically the wikipedia of Jewish websites)
18doors (aimed at interfaith families)
sefaria (Jewish translations of so many texts)
jewsforjudiasm (rebuttals to common missionary "gotchas" and techniques)
hebcal (it has the dates of the Jewish calendar to the Gregorian calendar)
Jewish federation websites (as a category, whatever is local - is a "connector" of other Jewish websites and organizations in the area).
ohnuts (food Judaica for different holidays)
jewishvirtuallibrary (good place fo a lot of statistics)
anti-defamation league (for stats on antisemitism, also useful if you work at a Jewish organization and your building gets defaced by nazis but hopefully you don't have that problem)
not a website but a book I recommend to literally everybody Jewish-curious: My Jewish Year by Abigail Pogrebin
heyAlma (basically Jewish Medium.com or Odysessy but with more editorial oversight, very 20-something)
jta (news sources for Jewish-related news, they some of their own reporting and also make boost other sources)
ejewishphilanthropy (news and opinions about the state of the community and various organizations)
hillel (you have to poke around a bit, but they have nice lists of event ideas)
joint distribution committee (often goes by "JDC" - big philanthropic organization that maintains connections with smaller and relatively remote Jewish communities)

Stars and creatives from the original NCIS series as well as all four offshoots — NCIS: Los Angeles, NCIS: New Orleans, NCIS: Hawai’i and NCIS: Sydney — were on hand for a celebration of the well-watched franchise’s 1,000th overall episode, which began filming on Monday.
The full NCIS cast plus co-showrunners Steven D. Binder and David North were joined on the “big orange room” set by visiting NCIS: LA alum Chris O’Donnell and (appearing via Zoom) onetime NCIS: New Orleans front man Scott Bakula (currently in New York for the Broadway musical The Connector), the NCIS: Hawai’i cast (congregated in their own HQ) and NCIS: Sydney leads Olivia Swann and Todd Lasance.
Other network and studio brass on hand for the major, four-digit milestone — which will air as the seventh episode of NCIS Season 21, on Monday, April 15 — included NCIS EP Charles Johnson, CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach, CBS Studios president David Stapf and NCIS: Hawai’i co-showrunner Christopher Silber, each of whom spoke at length about the “special sauce” that has fueled the franchise’s ongoing success. (NCIS: Hawai’i co-showrunner Jan Nash appeared remotely.)
Binder in his speech referred to the procedurals’ reputation in some circles as being “simple” shows, but then spoke of how they are all programs a family can enjoy together. To crystalize his point: “‘I love The Handmaid’s Tale! I watch it with my grandmother,’ said no one ever.”
North stepped forth to recall how when he was a production assistant on NCIS‘ sire, he asked JAG co-EP Charles Johnson, “‘Could I be a PA on [the spinoff]?’ And Charles said to me, ‘You know what, David? I’ll move you over there, but you have to understand that in Hollywood, shows like this usually don’t last.’ But I think deep down, Charles knew this one would.”
So, how does one possibly do justice to such a big number, in an episode of the mothership? TVLine spoke with Binder and North about the grand Episode 1,000 plan.
“One of our own beloved characters is going to end up in grave danger, and you’re go to see all of the different franchises brought into this in a little bit of a different way,” said North. Added Binder, “There’ll be a personal storyline, and this one will circle around Director [Leon] Vance,” played by series vet Rocky Carroll.
Along the way, fans can be assured, “We’re going to play plenty of homage to the past,” said North. “Were hoping to put some Easter eggs for longtime fans of the show…,” Binder teased. And some might be very teeny-tiny eggs.
“If you’re watching it in 4K, you might have to blow somethings things up,” the EP quipped, “but they’re going to be there.”

Intune Certificate Connector Service Account and PKCS
Microsoft Always On VPN administrators have two choices when deploying enterprise PKI certificates using Intune; PKCS and SCEP. I prefer using PKCS because it is easier to configure and manage. Also, PKCS requires no inbound connectivity, simplifying the deployment and reducing the organization’s public attack surface. Provisioning certificates using Intune is inherently risky. However, there are…

Hey i don't know if the worm power oc is still a thing but i just came up woth something.
A mix between a thinker and crawler.
The way that the power works is that the cape can in their head design thinker tech limbs implants in their head. like a chip that allows you to use/acess tech remotely or an arm that allows you to throw tanks around with a flick of their wrist. then when the get injured their injured parts are replaced with said thinker tech. The tech has some limmets:
They can't get bigger then 9'5 feet
They only replace the injured part so they won't get their entire arm replaced when the have a cut on their thumb.
Once a piece of their body is replaced it cannot be returned to an organic state not even by other thinkers
If a injury is on a place of their that is already replaced it can be upgreded or modified, the catch being that each time the cape does this the time it takes for a upgrade or modification to be done increases.
Oh and for alignments they are a member of the guild.
Okay my sleep schedule is shot to shit and it is too humid for me to think right now so this might not be my best work.... I wasn't planning on doing these today but I like your idea so let's give it a try.
First of Tinker, not Thinker.
I'm getting massive Doc Ock vibes, but also some Armsmaster and General Ironwood from RWBY (Also, someone needs to write a post comparing Ironwood and Armsmaster because there's definitely something there).
It would be so easy to make this charcoal a villain, even as part of the Guild they could just be someone waiting to go off the deep end, another Tinker who lost too much and became another Mannequin....But honestly doing that to an amputee character seems more than a little bit out of order.
So this is a hero, to the very core of their being.
This is someone who really does love people and wants to see the best in absolutely everyone, if they have a flaw it's believing that everyone can be saved, be rehabilitated and be fixed and being willing to lose more of themselves in pursuit of that.
You said they're like Crawler so let's work with that..the upgrades stated small, a "Literal thumbdrive" here, gyroscopic balance when fixing a snapped ankle there but that was years ago and now the work is so extensive that there's actually very little of the original person left; just most of a face, a brain and spinal cord, a heavily protected bag of organs and connections between them whilst the body around them is completely modular.
They do still have a public persona though, they have a mostly human body; basically an artificial copy of their original self which does have a slight uncanny valley effect about it which they use for public appearances, it even has a costume (Grey, black and neon green with a visor and an abstract helix/circuit board pattern)
When they're working though their remaining parts get entombed on a mech torso and their limbs get mounted into connectors for heavy duty replacements depending on the job.....Treads, rocket boosters, whatever you need they've got leg attachments and the arms can be fitted with a collection of (usually non-lethal) weapons; definitely a containment foam gun on one arm.
I like the idea that they could have been great friends with Dragon, if Dragon had ever been willing to tell them the truth.
As for their Cape name: "Doctor Svarog" after the Slavic God of the forge, fire, the sun and creation.

a fun fact about me is that our house didn't have a PC until i was about 14 -- and even then, it was shared by the whole family, and didn't have internet access for a while. my dad eventually signed up for AOL around 2001, at which point we were able to surf the web™ via a 56k dial-up connection.
however, we did have internet access prior to that… via our TV:
Tumblr media
source: https://web.archive.org/web/20190407175637/https://www.digitalspy.com/tech/cable/a3171/ntl-cr2-interactive/
this gave us a (single, shared) email address, and access to an extremely limited number of websites, such as leisuredistrict or everyoneswelcome.
(as an aside: you could unlock "full" web access by paying an extra £5 per month, which we eventually did… but not before discovering that if someone emailed us a clickable link, we could access that site without going through the "proper" menu option!)
anyway, to compose emails, enter your leisuredistrict password, or write an everyoneswelcome post, you had to use the remote control:
Tumblr media
source: https://web.archive.org/web/20190407173228/https://www.digitalspy.com/tech/cable/a3231/ntlhome-digital-interactive-tv/
as you can imagine this was slow and awkward. however, as the image above indicates, you could buy a special keyboard to make things easier. since my dad used to play chess via email (using a physical chess set next to the television), he ended up getting one:
Tumblr media
source: https://www.reddit.com/r/nostalgia/comments/hm5pfa/these_ntl_keyboards_i_think_im_on_an_ntl/
as you might have noticed, it has a somewhat strange layout, and doesn't have a wire coming out of the back. that's because this keyboard is actually just a really big remote control; you put 4 AA batteries in the back, and it communicates with the set top box via infrared signals, just like the standard remote control would.
of course, our set top box eventually outlived its usefulness, and all of this stuff went into a storage cupboard, whereupon it was promptly forgotten about… until a few months ago, when i rediscovered the keyboard whilst my dad was clearing out some old things. as you might expect, i saved it from being sent to silicon heaven (where all the calculators go) because i am a goblin who hoards old technology.
i put it to one side for a while, but a few days ago i decided to see if it was still working. it turns out that regular webcams can pick up infrared light, so i put some batteries in it and -- success! -- several white-ish lights were visible in my laptop's webcam app whenever i pressed a key.
as such, i think it would be cool to somehow get this thing working as an actual PC keyboard. i might need to write a custom program to do this, though it seems that it might Just Work.
of course, i'd need some kind of infrared receiver device to do that, and those can be surprisingly tricky to find:
there are plenty of "infrared extender" cables online, but their USB connector is only used to draw power; they don't actually show up as a "device" on your PC.
you can apparently get infrared-receiver-to-headphone jack cables, which you're supposed to plug into a special socket on certain set top boxes… though in theory you could plug them into the microphone input port of a PC and "manually" decode the data signal via software trickery. (disclaimer: i am not an expert on Hardware, so this might be A Bad Idea, but i think that the 5V output by the microphone port would be enough to power the IR receiver…?)
the thing i actually want (an IR-to-USB device) might as well not exist because it is no longer 2005 and no-one on the planet except me gives even half a shit about connecting an IR device to a PC. well, that's not entirely true -- but the things i did find cost £30-£50, which is way above what i'd want to spend on something like this.
eventually, though, i discovered that the magic phrase to search for is "Media Center IR receiver" (or, more simply, "MCE receiver"), whereupon i found someone selling an Acer MCEIR-210 on ebay for just over £10. its due to arrive here within the next few days, so hopefully i can make this somewhat-unusual device function again.
