It just makes my whole heart ache that we never actually see Mollymauk doing "choir practice" until Lestera is already gone--and every time he's ventured out, it's always been alone. "You stuck out your neck like that, completely alone, to help people you don't even know?"

To me, it really drives home the fact that Mollymauk just completely disregarded his own safety after losing someone he loved. It's not quite a death wish, but--there's an isolation and recklessness to it that feels eerily similar. Like if he did just go missing or die alone in the middle of the woods, it wouldn't really matter.

It's okay if the world is "harsh and cruel," if he knows no one will ever thank him--"And I'll tell you--and this is true--I did my best every town I went to and every town I left. No matter how they treated me--and many treated me with deep disrespect...I left every town better than I found it." In spite of how cold the world always was to him, Mollymauk will still throw his life on the line to save those people anyway. That's just who he is.

And when Yasha insists, "You're not doing this alone anymore, got it?" we get to see how lonely Molly truly he is. In spite of how readily he risks his life for others, he never actually expects anyone to do the same for him. And his response? "Got it. Suppose I could use the company. I am recently out of a relationship the hard way..." He deflects and smiles, but he's clearly hurting. That he's just trying to cope, but he's always carrying that loss and grief. That he's missed having someone, anyone--

Thinking of how Taliesin defines every incarnation of Molly's soul as a romantic, and what it does to Mollymauk to lose his first love. How he still carries all the same feelings for the Nein in another life.

Thinking of Kingsley remembering choir practice for the first time, wanting to take it up again. Letting himself be open enough to finally ask if one of the Nein would go with him--

Thinking about "Maybe you and I are both damned, but we can choose to do something, and leave it better than it was before" and how Caleb then gives Essek a kiss on the forehead the same way Molly did to him and how his wisdom and love is still carried through all the m9 and how that leaving a place better that you found it helped Caleb and helped him help Essek I'm unwell.

Rewatching campaign 2 & reminissing about the OG Mighty Nein and what might have been if it weren't for a, a-hem, change in player characters by Taliesin

Like. I love Caduceus, of course. But things would have been undeniably different with Molly.

I wish I could have seen him evolve and change along with the other m9. How he would react to Nott becoming Veth. To Fjord throwing away his sword and becoming a paladin of the wild mother. To Beau gaining a certain amount of charisma. To Yasha, finally allowing herself to love again. To Caleb, as he clings to his past with guilt and shame, even as he comes to terms with it. What would he have thought of essek? ((I honestly think he'd react the exact same way as Beau but with a higher charisma score))

Like. Molly being there for all of those moments would have been interesting. I can imagine how he would react and respond, but I don't really know. Plus, how would Molly have grown as a character? Who would he have become, given enough time?

(Also, due to Liam O'brien self-reported preference for romancing player character over npc's in d&d, plus Molly always flirting with Caleb, I like to think that that actually might have been a thing. At the very least, Molly would have added to the Bisexual Maelstrom 😭🤣🤣🤣)

the conversation where molly says "I leave every town better than I found it" is when he's defending himself after beau called him out for doing something fucked up, which was telling strangers what he arbitrarily decides that they need to hear and subsequently scamming them with false fortunes, like has legitimately everyone fucking forgotten that. it was just quoted in the wired article about critical role's positive legacy and it's...still the tagline for their nonprofit

The Mighty Nein Tieflings

I've been watching CR2 lately (for the first time!!), and I decided to make my two favorite tieflings in the sims.

I've only been watching for ~35 days and I'm about to start episode 36.... But anyways! It was a lot of fun to make these two, and even though they're not perfect, I think they're pretty damn good for using only what I had in my game. The most tragic part was not having Molly's iconic tattoos. But surprisingly I got pretty close with what I had. They at least have a face tattoo and a snake tattoo (albeit on the wrong side of their body.) And as you can see below, he got an iconic coat and pants in my game too. <3
