Reigen is such an incredible adult figure character because he's grounded in reality, and understands that there are children who are risking their lives simply just to be normal children, in a world where most every adult they come into contact with is cruel and pathetic, and has no regard for anything other than their greed and loose hold on anything in their lives, starving for power and willing to kill and torture literal kids in order to get it. Reigen puts them in their place and reminds them they're not special, they're not even close to having the insurmountable power they THINK they want, and forces them to get a grip already. He puts them at his level. He is there to guide and to deal with adult issues, and let Mob deal with his teenage issues, things that might not seem "important" to adults, but to these kids, it's the only sense of normalcy they'll ever have in a world like this, and they deserve it. And that level of care that Reigen has makes a huge impression on them, shapes their world view entirely. Even Teru, since Mob was just relaying everything his mentor had taught him, things he didn't even have much of a grip on yet. He trusted Reigen's - the first adult that really bothered to try to listen to him - advice that wholly.
Reigen doesn't need to have any powers to be special to someone, to be a role model to someone, to help someone, all he has to do is be a good guy, and that's exactly what he is, and exactly how Mob views him. He's seriously flawed, he's selfish and manipulative to an end, but not so much that he's clouded. He can see his own mistakes, and he realises when he messes up, and works on fixing it. He doesn't blame Mob, and Mob doesn't blame him, because they learn from one another and impact one another too positively to hold some petty grudge. They instead both use that distance to better themselves. He's human, and he's a pretty damn responsible adult all things considered. Mob takes his words seriously, and he's lucky that it was Reigen he sought out advice from, because if it was anyone else, it could have been way uglier than a guy who clearly feels extremely guilty about lying, who is giving genuinely good advice.

As funny as it would be for there to be another sans vs reigen standoff, I Do think it'd be really funny if we got Cecil to go all the way. Especially since, in my opinion, he stands the test of time and has come all the way around to the new brand of sexyman.
Like, yes, he was, in WTNV's early days, given the twink treatment. Dapper style, youthful features, etc. But he was never like that canonically.
He dresses horrifically (affectionate), he's canonically an older man even in the podcast's beginning, and he is and never has been a twink (he is neither thin, nor fat. Implying at thinnest, straight-sized, and at biggest, mid-sized).
Obviously this doesn't change the fandom's sexymanification of him, but it does lead him to fit more nicely into the sexyman that the aging tumblr userbase has recently developed:
The Babygirl.
Listen. Apart from the above, he can't cook for shit, he's petty, he's written Jaws slash fic and had his intern beta read it, he is CANONICALLY a dilf, he grows his own weed, he loves his husband So Goddamn Much, he won't shut up about how much he carnally desires said husband, he mentions his kinks on the fucking air, AND HE EVEN HAS A FUCKING TUMBLR.
I think he fits the bill for the pathetic older queer man that tumblr has grown so very Normal about. He is so very powerful. And after ten years of being this way I think he should be allowed to go all the way to the top. I think he's earned it.
Sure, if he doesn't stand a chance in the final four, I'll accept sans vs reigen. But if it gets close enough, say, above 40%.... Maybe we could push to go all the way. For the bit. For one of the original sexymen of tumblr history. For our dear gay uncle, Cecil Gershwin Palmer. Thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I think an underrated aspect of Separation Arc and why it works so well is that once Mob finally stands up for himself and stops going to work, we think we can expect the following to happen:
Reigen quickly flounders at work but stubbornly denies he's incapable without Mob's help
Reigen eventually runs into a client who truly needs the help of psychic powers (e.g. the client is haunted by an evil spirit who cannot be exorcised with salt)
Reigen realizes that he truly needs Mob to not be seen as a fraud and that he shouldn't have taken him for granted
Reigen seeks out Mob and apologizes, Mob accepts his apology and agrees to work for him again
Except... that's not what happens. Reigen does get upset and lonely without Mob, but his business runs fine—in fact, Reigen's own ambition and smart thinking actually allow him to find greater success as a psychic. The only reason Reigen's public downfall even happens is because he was maliciously tricked by Jodo, he'd figured out on his own that the kid wasn't possessed! This and the fact that Jodo is seeking petty revenge for Reigen "humiliating" him (when Reigen actually saved his life no less) really makes us feel like Reigen's public mockery is unfair and unjustified... even though we've always known from the beginning that Reigen is a fraud.
Isn't that a strange turn of events?
Then we get to the press conference. It's possible that even if Mob hadn't helped him at the end, Reigen could've still managed to salvage some of his public image. He was calmly answering people's questions and answering truthfully, pointing out that they had no evidence he was a fraud and that no one had ever had an issue with his work before the show. But all of that stops mattering to Reigen when he realizes that despite all his efforts from childhood, he's still just a lonely, lonely man who has never had any idea what he wants to do in life. The only reason he kept running his psychic business in the first place was because Mob showed up in his dull life and brightened it up with his vivid color.
It is finally here, after all this time we've been spending with Reigen, that we both figure out the truth: Reigen needs Mob not because of his powers, but because Mob is his friend and inspires him to be better. And this full understanding of Reigen's complex character and deep connection with Mob is what hits all of us so hard in this episode, it's so painfully human and real and we would not have gotten all of this had the story just played out as expected.
Thus culminates the genius subversions of Separation Arc: despite having the world's attention all focused on him, Reigen only makes one honest apology to one boy. This boy might not even watching this at all—if he is, he's probably watching this with spiteful bitterness—but it's still important that this boy knows...
You've grown up so much. You know that?

Rewatching Mob Psycho 100, and I feel like Reigen would accidentally blurt out, "Oh thank god you're not ugly" when meeting someone for the first time on a blind date.

(TW for mentions of suicide) I recently saw somebody say that they thought the reason that Reigen took off his shoes when he was going to face ???% was that he didn't think he was going to survive. For context, in Japan, when a person is going to commit suicide, they take off their shoes in order to show that their death wasn't a murder. When I thought about this theory, it just made so much painful sense that Reigen wouldn't want officials to think that Mob killed Reigen, but that Reigen was the one who killed himself by going after Mob.
