"You know, because of colour theory" totally sounds like something Willie would say
Throwing a housewarming party for the house they bought was something that Alex had always felt would feel very Adult. Like, they had a dining room table now. This was less 'paying your friends in pizza and beer for helping you move' (though they'd done that too) and more 'inviting your friends over a few weeks later to look at how adult you were with your unpacked house and freshly painted walls'.
The dining room table was set. There were even fresh flowers on the table, because they owned a vase now. Sure, the dinnerware was still all mismatched but it was on purpose, because Alex couldn't make up his mind on what he liked and Reggie liked thrifting and Willie enjoyed the chaos of it all. It was an aesthetic choice.
They'd gotten a grill, and Ray was on the patio showing Willie and Reggie how to use it. Alex was happy to let them, since Willie loved playing with fire and Reggie loved spending time with Ray. He preferred to be in the kitchen, checking on the garlic bread, making people drinks before getting overwhelmed and Julie reassuring him 'we know where the fridge is, don't worry about it'.
He didn't feel like a real adult. Not even with the cute little house and his two handsome boyfriends - partners, all of them on the title, which was a huge step, almost as big as marriage - and his dining room table and their beautiful homemade mailbox with all their names on it.
He wondered if he ever would, looking out from the kitchen to watch their friends mingling, Carrie and her Candis taking in the gallery wall, Luke impressed with the charcuterie board Alex had made in an attempt to make it feel like a real adult party, Julie and Flynn impressed by the bookshelves they'd put up.
Two arms snaked around his waist, and Reggie pressed a kiss to his neck. "You okay, babe?" Alex relaxed into him.
"Yeah," he said. "Just thinking about how I still don't feel like a real adult."
Reggie laughed. "That's why we have Ray. Or if we really fuck up, Julie's aunt. You know, adultier adults."
And yeah, all three of the had been pretty much adopted into the Molina family, given their own families of origin were either gone or awful. They were their own family now. Maybe that was the real meaning of adulthood.
"Stop worrying and go enjoy the party, I'll finish setting the table and stuff," Reggie said, ushering him out of the kitchen.
"Don't forget the garlic bread," Alex warned him, and went to move to join people in the living room.
Except as soon as he turned around, he heard a squelch, and a gasp, and Reggie saying 'oh no'.
He whirled around to see their kitchen, their freshly painted, freshly cleaned, perfect kitchen, covered floor to ceiling in ketchup.
"What..." he managed, as Reggie stared at him with wide eyes. The glass bottle of ketchup - because glass looked more adult than the squeezy bottles, Alex remembers thinking in the supermarket - was still in his hand. "How?"
"I was gonna give it a good shake before putting it on the table!" Reggie said helplessly.
Oh no.
"I'd already loosened all the lids," Alex said. This was all his fault. He hadn't warned Reggie. And now their kitchen was ruined.
"I'm so sorry, Alex, don't be mad," Reggie started, and Alex wasn't mad at anyone but himself. Thankfully Reggie was mostly ketchup free, so Alex grabbed some paper towels to wipe his hands and pull him into a hug. Reggie freaking out would only make him freak out. Reggie buried his face in Alex' shoulder for a moment, before collecting himself.
"Oh man, it looks like a children's hospital in here," Willie said, coming in with a plate of burgers. At Alex' confused stare, he elaborated: "You know, because of colour theory?"
That did not clear anything up, but Reggie giggled.
"I don't want to know," Alex decided. "Go serve people while I clean up this mess."
In the end, they did not need an 'adultier adult', because one of the Candis knew how to get ketchup stains off of freshly painted walls. She helped him get the worst off, and saved the garlic bread from the oven, and they joined the dinner.
And finally Alex felt a little more like an adult than he had. They'd had their first minor disaster in the house and none of them had freaked out or needed to call in a Real Adult. He was taking it as a win.

So @bananakarenina took that middle picture because it reminded her of me, and well... you know I had to.
"See, I told you the sign would work," Reggie whispered, as the cool skateboarder and his even cooler skateboarding dog stopped in front of their cafe and then, cautiously, went inside.
"Hiiiii," Alex breathed out, embarrassingly, when Cute Skater took off his helmet and a waterfall of hair tumbled out. "I mean... what can I get you?"
Reggie, on the other hand, had already rounded the corner of the counter and was on his knees, letting the dog sniff his hand and offering her treats.
"We have coffee, iced coffee, boba, our numbers, chocolate chip cookies, blueberry muffins, lemon squares, and more dog treats," Reggie rattled off.
"Your numbers?" The skater asked, as if he wasn't sure he'd heard that correctly.
"Great choice!" Reggie beamed.

3 Sentence prompts: Willexie + Thrift Shopping!
Just because they were kind of famous now, didn't mean Reggie wanted to give up on his favourite hobby. Listen, he'd gotten his most iconic outfit from the thrift store. Okay, it had been pretty much his only outfit for a while. But it had clearly worked, because Sunset Curve was topping the charts now and everyone thought he was really cool.
Another bonus to having one iconic outfit was he could just ditch the leather jacket and flannel for the day and be basically incognito. Not that a lot of old people at estate sales knew who he was, but he'd been recognised at a bunch of garage sales and it just felt wrong to try and haggle with someone who really just wanted his autograph.
"Tell me again why you dragged me out of bed at five in the morning to drive down to Pasadena to look at... old junk?" Alex whined, sipping on the giant coffee Reggie had gotten him along the way. He was dressed in one of Reggie's flannels, which honestly was kind of a little treat in and of itself. Reggie himself had stolen one of Bobby's shirts and Alex' denim jacket.
"Because it's fun?" Reggie asked. Alex did not look convinced. "Because we can get cool stuff for the house?" he tried again.
"We can get cool stuff for the house at literally every store we want now," Alex pointed out. Which was true, they had Money now. Of course their co-dependent asses still went and bought a house together like they always said they would. It was just... slightly closer to a mansion than the shitty apartments they'd been thinking of when they were seventeen and broke. "Luke and Bobby spent a couple of grand on a new sound system."
"It's not about the money," Reggie pouted. "It's about the thrill of the chase. It's about treasure hunting! It's about finding unique pieces nobody else has!"
Alex stared at him, unamused, obnoxiously slurping his coffee.
"Fine, you're here because you love me and because I need your big sexy muscles to help lift stuff into the truck if we find anything." He was hoping to find a cool coffee table, or a desk, and they could still use a nice dresser.
"Fine," Alex said, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "But if I find something cute, you're doing the haggling for me."
"Deal."
The morning went pretty well. They found some cool lamps, and a couple of nice hardcover science fiction books Reggie thought would look very mature and adult on their shelf. Reggie managed to haggle down on a really mature looking desk that would look great in their 'We're Real Adults Now' house, and Alex did use his sexy muscles to help get it onto the truck.
After a quick early lunch in town, they went to the next estate sale. They agreed to split up, since it was later in the day and they needed to be fast before all the good stuff was snapped up.
Except when Reggie rounded the corner, he saw Alex wasn't looking for a nice dresser or pretty trinkets. Alex was talking to a very hot, very cool guy in a crop top.
Reggie narrowed his eyes, going over. Alex beamed. "Hey babe!"
"Why are you flirting with the enemy?" Reggie hissed.
Alex groaned. "Not this again."
"Hey, Reggie," Willie beamed. "Great job on nabbing that desk at the Gilmore estate, I had my eye on that too. But you got here a little late. Do you want to see the heirloom patchwork blanket I scored? And I found this really cool dresser I'm going to paint..."
Reggie squinted at their rival, annoyed. He wanted a cool dresser. And the patchwork blanket folded over his arm looked really nice.
"I'm sure it will look really cool," he said, trying to keep the sulk out of his voice. He gave Alex another glare.
Alex just stared at him. "Maybe I was distracting Willie so you could be the first to notice those vintage comic books in the corner," he said, and Reggie gasped, running off and rifling through the box before Willie could get there.
"Aw man, low blow, Hotdog!" Willie complained.
"Yeah, I'm evil like that," Alex deadpanned, rolling his eyes at the two of them.
In the end, Reggie came away with some Spiderman and Hawkeye comics that were still missing from his collection, and a cute little side table they could paint a pretty pink for Alex. As they were finishing up and loading everything in the truck at the end of the day, Willie moseyed back over.
"Howdy," he said, tipping a cowboy hat Reggie had completely missed. He felt a stab of jealousy, not just for missing it but also because Willie looked unfairly hot like that. Then, Willie plopped the hat on Reggie's head. "We still on for dinner?"
"The burger place?" Reggie asked, leaning over to press a kiss to Willie's cheek.
Alex popped out of the truck. "Oh so now it's okay to flirt?" he asked, grumpy.
"Of course it is, Alex, it's four thirty," Reggie said, propping the cowboy hat on Alex' head. He did not look as sexy as Willie had, but he did look kind of cute. They should go on a horseback riding date, all three of them, sometime soon. He'd bring it up over dinner.
"Yeah, Hotdog, we're only mortal thrifting enemies between six and four," Willie agreed.
"You two are so weird," Alex complained, but he still climbed down to sit in the bed of the truck to receive kisses from both his boyfriends. And over dinner, he smiled indulgently as his two thrift-nerdy boyfriends compared notes and showed off pictures of the treasures they'd found.

Willie Ship of your choice and Pokemon AU?
The problem with living in a town with a gym, Reggie thought, was that every passing by would-be Pokemon master thought literally everyone with a Pokemon wanted to battle. It was exhausting. Especially when they wouldn't take no for an answer.
Listen, was it stupid for Reggie to try and punch out a Geodude? Yes, but it was better than trying to punch out a twelve year old. Probably. The twelve year old probably wouldn't have given him what felt like a black eye. And he had to act fast, because the Pokemon had been rapidly approaching his cowering Jolteon.
"What the hell were you thinking?" Alex asked as he came to on what appeared to be a park bench. It wasn't very comfy, except for his head, which was pillowed on something.
"That Sparky is a rescue, and if she doesn't want to fight, she shouldn't have to," he said, gently petting the Jolteon who was nuzzling her nose under his hand anxiously. "It's okay baby, nobody's going to hurt you."
Both of Reggie's Pokemon were rescues. His very first, a Growlithe puppy he'd found out in the rain when he was fifteen, was a constant companion. Reggie wasn't sure what had happened to it before he got him, but Buddy didn't particularly like fighting. He shied away from battles, and it took Reggie ages to realise why he always cowered behind his legs in a certain part of town. The part near the gym.
They'd worked on that, and getting his confidence up in general. Buddy was a happy Pokemon now, though he still didn't like battles. The only time Reggie had ever seen him fight was to protect Reggie, and to help him kick Sparky's owner's ass. Anyone that would raise his hand against his own Pokemon didn't deserve them. They did, however, deserve a black eye, a stolen Jolteon, and singed pair of jeans.
With a groan, he sat up, laughing when Buddy hopped on the bench and started anxiously licking at his face. "I'm okay, Bud," he promised. "What happened? Did Whitney put them to sleep?" That was their usual strategy, when trainers wouldn't stop bothering them. You couldn't start a Pokemon fight if you were too asleep to grab your Pokeballs.
Alex' emotional support Jigglypuff chirped at him from Alex' backpack.
"I was going to, but..."
"Yeah, sorry, Ziggy and I stepped in first," a new voice said from behind him. Reggie turned and blinked. Apparently, the comfortable thing his head had been pillowed on was this gorgeous stranger's lap. He had beautiful long dark hair, killer cheekbones, and just about the cutest Zigzagoon Reggie had ever seen draped over his shoulders like a fancy stole.
"I- uh- that's..." Really hot, Reggie wanted to say.
Sparky nudged his hand again, pointy fur prickling under his fingers. "Thanks," Reggie managed. He looked up at Alex, who seemed equally flustered at this hot stranger who just rocked up and saved them both, and then waited with them until Reggie regained consciousness.
"Are you... a trainer?" Reggie asked, carefully. He didn't seem to have any Pokeballs on his belt, just the Zigzagoon wrapped around his neck. But if he defeated that kid's entire arsenal, that Zigzagoon was probably powerful as heck.
"No," the guy said quickly. Ziggy nuzzled his cheek gently. "I... not anymore. Ziggy and I are just... travelling."
"Thank you for saving us," Alex said sincerely.
"If you're new in town," Reggie said, not wanting the guy to leave now that he was awake again. "Maybe we could show you the best places to get food?"
The man's guarded look changed into a beautiful smile. "I'd like that, yeah," he agreed. "I'm Willie."
In the end, Willie decided to stick around a lot longer than he planned, and Reggie and Alex never had to worry about pushy Pokemon Trainers again. Their boyfriend and his badass Zigzagoon had them covered.

3 sentence prompt: Reggie pairing of your choice + Dog Walker
Reggie always insisted he didn't have favourite clients. Which was half true. He didn't have favourite dogs, he loved all of them. Even the difficult ones, or the yappy ones, or the ones who would fake out being done pooping until he tied the baggy only to go: NOPE WAIT.
The human clients, though... well, there he could be honest and say some were better than others. The little old lady with the shih tzu who always slipped him an extra quarter so he could 'get himself a little treat'. The fabulously wealthy gay magician with the fabulously groomed borzoi who understood that you were never too old to have money pulled out from your ear (especially not when it came with a generous tip whenever Cerberus managed to drag Reggie behind him through the mud in an attempt to murder a squirrel.)
And of course the cute gay couple who had hired him temporarily. One of them, Willie, was the one to usually walk their rather energetic Pudelpointer in the afternoons while his boyfriend was at work. But given that both his leg and his arm were in a cast at the moment after 'a jump I totally could have made, it was just bad luck', they'd hired Reggie to take over for a while.
Pigeon was a dream of a dog, smart, well-trained, and always up for adventure. He got along well with the other dogs, but he was Reggie's only Thursday client, so they got some quality ball-throwing and jogging in as well.
Listen, he was just providing excellent dog enrichment, after he learned Pigeon often went running with Alex on the weekends. It had nothing to do with the way Willie's eyes raked over his body in his short shorts and tank top on Thursday afternoons. Or the way he'd invite Reggie in for some lemonade 'provided you get the glass yourself because I can't reach that high right now'.
He was pretty sure Willie's other, non-broken arm could reach the glasses just fine, but he wasn't complaining, especially not when his shirt rode up a little and he heard a strangled noise behind him (Alex, who had started coming home for lunch on Thursdays, just coincidentally around the time Reggie came home with Pigeon after their runs).
Pretty soon, one glass of lemonade became two, became 'why don't you stay for lunch, we made too much anyway', became long talks at the dinner table, Pigeon's head in his lap staring adoringly at him while Reggie stared adoringly at the dog's owners.
They never actually said anything, though, so Reggie figured it was just some harmless flirting. He sighed about it to Pigeon sometimes, though, about how lucky he was to be able to sleep in between those two gorgeous dudes, to cuddle with them on the couch.
When Willie finally got his casts off and was cleared by his physical therapist, Reggie had to admit he took his time getting back. He wanted to savor the time with this sweet pooch, say goodbye to him properly. They went to the dog park and he threw the ball for as long as Pigeon wanted, giving him all the treats and scratches and cuddles he could, before steeling himself for a professional goodbye.
Except when he rang the doorbell to hand over the dog (half an hour later than usual, whoops), rehearsing a polite 'no' to one last glass of lemonade (no need to drag this out), Willie and Alex instead asked him something he couldn't say no to.
Their first date was dinner at a dog-friendly restaurant, and thankfully, Pigeon didn't mind sharing the space on the bed between Alex and Willie.

i’m behind on my dash but how about prompt 31 for the alex ship of your choice?
They're curled up together. It's late, after a show, and then a late night diner run, and a shower that ended up way longer than it should have because while yes, they especially got an apartment with a shower big enough for three, that did not lead to particularly efficient showering.
Alex is just about to drift to sleep, wrapped around Reggie like he's a teddy bear, when he speaks up.
"Would you still love me if I were a bug?"
Oh no. He knew he should have cut Reggie off after the first coke.
From behind him, Willie shifted, until his chin was hooked over Alex' shoulder. "What kind of bug?"
"Don't encourage him," Alex sighed, even though he knew it was hopeless. "Also, does it matter?" Because yes, even though he knew it would only encourage them both, he couldn't help but ask.
"Like a beetle or something."
"We'd still love you," Willie said, and Alex rolled his eyes, but nodded. "Make you a little beetle house."
"Get you a nice ouija board so you could still communicate," Alex agreed, yawning. Because of course his brain was already figuring out the logistics of what it would take to accommodate their beetle boyfriend.
Below him, he could feel Reggie relax. "Oh. Okay."
"We'll always love you, Reg," Alex said, because he was pretty sure that was what this was about. Though with Reggie, who knew. Boy read too many of those sci-fi paperbacks. "Now go to sleep."
"M'kay," Reggie agreed. They shifted around a little until they were all comfortable again, and Alex sighed, his eyes feeling heavier, his breathing slowing down.
"... would you love me if I was a worm?"
"Reggie, light of my life," he said testily. "Go the fuck to sleep."
Behind him, Willie snickered.
It was going to be a long night.

For some reason chaos prompt 6 is giving me Reggie/Alex vibes
Alex wasn't entirely sure why he'd let Reggie talk him into this. Like, sure, he wanted to prove to Willie he was a Cool Daredevil and all and impress his new friend, but now that he was actually in the shopping cart, it seemed like a whole other story.
"You ready?" Willie asked them, grinning.
"Oh my god we're gonna die," Alex whimpered, clutching on to Reggie.
"We're already dead, dude, it's fine," Reggie said, patting his hand patronizingly.
"Okay, fine, we're ready," he said. Willie leaned over the bar to grin at him, smile radiant. Then, he gave the shopping cart a big push, sending it careening down the hill. There was no traffic at this time of night, the road deserted, but once they were rolling, that didn't seem to make any difference in how terrifying it was.
Wow, Alex thought as the wheels went funny and they started spinning massively out of control, I never knew I could scream that high.
They didn't even make it to the bottom of the hill, instead spinning until they hit the sidewalk and being catapulted into some bushes. Reggie went 'oof' and Alex went 'aargh' and then they both groaned. Being dead didn't mean you didn't feel pain, no matter how temporary. Especially not when your ghost-boyfriend landed right on top of you.
"Oh my god that was the stupidest thing ever why the hell did we do that," Alex groaned, even as they heard Willie laugh and cheer from the top of the hill.
"To impress your new ghost friend who you have a crush on," Reggie said factually, which just made him feel worse, because it meant that this was all his fault. "Chill, babe. If it makes you feel any better, at least your hair still looks good?"
The sad part was that did make him feel better. Then his brain caught up with what Reggie had said. "Wait, I don't- I never- I don't have a crush!"
"If you say so," Reggie said, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "Now come on, I wanna go again and see if we can reach the bottom."

21 + 46 and Reggie/Alex/Willie?
Dystopian AU + Blind Date
Anon I am so sorry but I cannot not make this pun. This is a Day of the Triffids AU. Basically, everyone who saw a mysterious asteroid shower woke up blind the next day (which is a huge portion of the population since everyone was really hyped about it). Also there's walking plants who will murder you with their tongues and then feast on your corpse.
Considering the chaotic mess the world was, they'd done alright for themselves, really. It probably helped that the band had been super tight beforehand, and that Carlos and Reggie had been super into zombie apocalypse movies. It was really not that big of a stretch to turn a zombie apocalypse plan into a 'my entire family and the whole world is blinded' plan.
In the beginning, Reggie had been the only one in their group who could see, and that was pure dumb luck. He'd forgotten what day it was, worked a full shift at the coffee shop, worked on the song he'd wanted to show Luke later, and then crashed like thirty minutes before the meteor shower was supposed to start, sleeping through all of it.
So yeah, in the beginning, it had been rough. Terrifying. Getting around as a sighted person had its own perils. Plenty of people were willing to get really violent for their chance at a sighted person to lead them around. They'd quickly worked out a system: Luke up front, Reggie subtly steering his shoulders through squeezes. That way, they moved like the others, didn't attract unwanted attention.
It was better when they'd linked up with Flynn's family. Flynn's mom was blind, had been most of her life. She'd helped the others, taught them how to get around. She's started teaching them braille. Alex' little sister, Stevie, and Carlos were picking it up quick as anything. She also loved to garden, so over the summer they'd turned a lot of the available front yard space into edible plants. Reggie's job was to do the morning patrols, finding and burning any triffid podlings that had taken root before they could become dangerous.
That's how he'd found Willie, who had been crouched in front of one of the tomato plants, shoving them in his mouth. He'd spoken before he could think about it, scolding him about not waiting until they were ripe, and Willie had shrugged and said 'they're red aren't they'. Both had realised their mistake almost immediately, but before Willie could run - or skate - away, Reggie had offered him a place to stay.
Willie fit in with their little group perfectly. He was friendly, funny, and just the right amount of chaotic. He was also beautiful, and kind, and great with kids. His laugh was the prettiest sound in the world and he knew how to get pretty much anyone out of a funk. So yeah, Reggie was smitten.
But when he’d seen Alex and Willie grow closer, of course Reggie had taken a step back. Alex deserved the world. Besides, Reggie had other responsibilities, he shouldn’t waste time mooning over some boy. He’d done it before, pushed down his crush on Alex even before the whole world fell apart, and now that was just a dull ache. In time, the same would happen with Willie, and he could move on and be happy for them.
It would be easy to hide his feelings, he figured, since only one person was around to see him. But one day Julie had followed him out during his morning patrol and confronted him about it in the most gentle way she could, and he’d spent an hour just crying in her arms. She’d urged him to talk to Willie and Alex, hinting that there might be feelings there as well, but he’d blown her off, taking her hand and describing the gardens to her while he weeded out any problems. They’d only gone back when Julie had promised his voice didn’t sound all wobbly and hoarse.
He’d forgotten to check if his eyes were still red and puffy. Because of course he had. He hadn’t had to worry about what he looked like in literal years. Which Willie of course noticed. Which had lead to the whole thing coming out anyway, Julie dragging Luke out of the studio by his ear so they could have some privacy.
They’d been dating ever since. And it was perfect. Except dates in the post apocalypse were really more ‘having dinner in the garage alone’ or ‘going to pick the tomatoes together’. It was dangerous to go outside of their little fenced off corner of the neighbourhood. It was hard for Alex to get around in the empty houses on the street, because he hadn’t memorised where everything was.
Still, on the nights the spent together on the pull-out sofa in the garage, the privacy was heaven. Curling up against Alex, playing with Willie’s hair, kissing them both without fear of being interrupted by his little brother or Luke who had an amazing song idea, it was bliss. Tonight, they were discussing things they missed from before the apocalypse. Willie missed skating competitions, and the internet. Reggie was sad they’d never make the next season of his favourite show. Alex sighed, and said he missed the beach.
Which was totally a fixable thing. It had taken them a few weeks, talking to the others behind Alex’ back, making sure everyone was okay with their day trip, preparing the safest route. Willie was the one who usually went outside their neighbourhood, scavenging and skating around. He’d mapped the safest route to the safest beach, getting rid of as many triffids as he could along the way.
But then the day had come. Ray had waited for them at the door, giving him a hug. Reggie had clung to him, nervous. He didn’t want to leave them alone. He’d been responsible for their safety for so long, it felt wrong to leave. Which was exactly why he should, Flynn’s mother had told him firmly, the week before. “Are you sure you’ll be okay?” he asked.
“I’m sure,” Ray said. “You boys deserve this. Go have fun. And Reggie...” He paused, and Reggie tensed. “Remember to wear sunscreen.” Ray winked at him, squeezing his arms before ushering him out of the door.
The walk to the beach was long, and slightly tense. Willie had a make-shift molotov cocktail in one hand, and Alex’ hand in the other. Reggie was on Alex’ other side, quietly leading them around debris and muttering a running commentary of what he saw around them.
They set off at first light, so they didn’t really run into many people, and they were mostly able to avoid the ones who were out, only stopping to make polite conversation with a group of women lead by an old lady with a guide dog. They told them that the beach seemed to be clear today, as Rover hadn’t alerted once while they heard the waves. They even let Reggie give Rover a quick pet, and Alex joked that whatever happened, Reggie’s day was already made.
When they could hear the waves, Willie climbed one of the palm trees to scout the area, declaring Rover was right and it seemed to be all clear. As soon as they hit the sand, Alex laughed, stopping. He yanked his shoes off, and Reggie smiled, shoving them in his backpack while Willie pulled Alex towards the waves.
They played in the sand and the water for hours, taking turns floating on their backs, splashing at each other, just sitting in the surf and letting the waves crash over them. Kissing each other with salty lips. Eating the lunch that Flynn’s mom had packed them. Laying on their backs and soaking up the sun. Maybe even spreading out the big towel they’d packed and... taking advantage of the privacy they had (after they checked and reassured Alex there was nobody around, of course).
And when they got home, salty and sated and happy, they were welcomed with open arms, a home cooked meal, and a good bit of healthy teasing when the first thing Reggie said when asked how it had been was: “I pet a dog!”

More Triffid AU thoughts because apparently the book stuck with me even though I read it like 15 years ago.
-So Reggie wakes up to his brother screaming that he can’t see, and freaks out, and rushes to get help only to open the door and it’s chaos outside because pretty much EVERYONE can’t see. His parents are gone (or did they even come home?). He does the first thing he can think of: put Stevie on his bike and ride to the Molinas, dodging and serving blind pedestrians along the way.
-The band was supposed to have a Meteor Watch Party, which Reggie missed, but it is very convenient because everyone is already in one place. They quickly piece together what happened, because Reggie (who slept through the meteor shower) is the only one who can see.
-Reggie and Carlos quickly retrofit their zombie apocalypse plans. He feels bad raiding a grocery store, even worse raiding the pharmacy, but Alex needs his inhalers and if this isn’t temporary, things could get very bad very fast.
-He realises this when he’s nearly kidnapped by a cop who can’t see anymore, who tries to hold him at gunpoint and force him to be his guide. (He throws a can of beans at a car, making the alarm go off and distracting the cop, and hightails it out of there, figuring out pretty quickly that letting anyone know he can see is a very, very bad idea.)
-Luke 100% is the first to stop freaking out because they can still play music, right?
-Over the next few weeks, things both get very bad (fires, car accidents, desperate people) and then very quiet. Reggie spends time raiding more stores for supplies (sometimes with the help of Luke or Ray, though he hates the idea of putting Ray in danger when he has kids to worry about).
-He also goes around to all of their family’s houses. His parents are nowhere to be found, but he packs up some stuff for him and Stevie. Tía Victoria isn’t home, and the hospital she works at is such chaos that Reggie quickly flees.
-He never, ever tells Luke what he found on the Patterson’s street. And he makes sure that if they ever regain sight, Luke will never, ever see it either.
-He visits Flynn’s family, and they seem to be doing more alright than the other survivors he’s passed that are still in their homes. Probably because Flynn’s mom has been blind for most of her life already. The first thing Flynn says when she realises Reggie can see is: Reggie, give it to me straight.... does my outfit clash? (And if Reggie has a little hysterical breakdown at that, well, he’s earned it.) Eventually, they all agree to move in together, because it’s safer to stick together.
-Alex’ parents and family aren’t home, but he said to check at the church as well, which he does. He’s surprised to find that there are a number of sighted people at the church, so he lingers at the open door and stares blankly at a spot on the wall and listens to the sermon. When he starts hearing words thrown around like ‘gods will’ and ‘women of breeding age’ and ‘repopulation’, he decides it’s time to get Alex’ sister out of there really fast. He speeds back to the house to get Alex (since he’s not sure if Olivia would come with him if without that).
-When Alex arrives, Reggie carefully leads him to Olivia. Alex tells his folks he’s taking Olivia, and that there isn’t shit they can do about it, because they can’t see. (Olivia is more than happy to go with them if it means not being a baby incubator.) They get out, leaving Alex’ parents behind wondering if Alex can see (he can’t, but with some silent directing by Reggie he could fake it). They did agree beforehand if anything were to happen, Reggie would grab Liv and run.
-100% Alex made sure his parents thought that The Gays were Immune, which probably put a spanner in the whole cult thing the people at the church were trying to set up.
-The amount of anxiety Alex goes through, not only being blind but now being solely responsible for his sister, it’s pretty intense. Especially when you can’t just run away and hide or go for a walk alone to clear your head. There’s a lot of frantic drumming.
-Ray teaches Reggie how to drive, even when blind. He’s mostly working off muscle memory, listening to the sound of the engine, and hoping Reggie’s good enough at steering to not hit anything. They don’t need to go fast, but being able to drive means fewer trips to the supermarket. (Also, when Alex eventually bangs through one of his drums and freaks out, Luke and Reggie go get him a new one. A blind Luke in a music store is a Bad Idea and he’s banned from subsequent trips unless he promises to hold Reggie or Julie’s hand the entire time.)
-Eventually life quiets down, which is both good and horrific if you think about it long enough. They move Flynn’s family into the Molina house. They start checking all the houses and figuring out who is still there, who is gone. Reggie buries more bodies than he cares to remember. But it’s better than his friends tripping over them in the streets.
-Then, the triffids break out of their farms and it’s like the apocalypse all over again.
-After a few years they do have things pretty under control. They’ve fenced off a large part of the neighbourhood. The only other survivor in the fence is an old lady that Reggie goes to check on every day, until he doesn’t have to anymore. She wrote him a note in frightening good penmanship for someone who couldn’t see, that he didn’t need to feel bad, but that her meds ran out a long while ago and she was ready to go meet her husband.
-Every week they patrol the fences and set fire to any mature triffids they find. Who would have thought anyone would trust Luke with a flamethrower, let alone a blind Luke?
-Flynn’s dad used to be an electrician and they rig up some was to get power and collect and purify water.
-The sheer feels of Ray teaching the boys how to shave without being able to see. (Luke complains about having to until Julie is like: no kisses until you get rid of that itchy upper lip. He turns around real fast after that.)
-Willie was locked in the basement as punishment by his shitty evil foster dad. When Caleb figured out what was going on the next day, and that people who didn’t see the meteors could still see, you better believe he made sure to cuff Willie or tie him up so he couldn’t escape and use him to his advantage.
-Eventually Willie manages to escape, possibly by luring Caleb over a cliff or to a triffid or something.
-Willie settles in to the Molina-Taylor homestead pretty easily. He’s fed properly, they let him skate around the abandoned streets, Carlos even helps him build a ramp. He can see Reggie is nearing a breaking point and takes over some of his tasks.
-Every evening Reggie helps Flynn find the clothes she wants to wear. When Willie comes back with clothes from his raiding-outside-the-neighbourhood trips, he always makes sure to describe them to Flynn in detail so she knows what she’s wearing. He gets her the most fashionable clothes he can find.
-Don’t think about Ray getting sick and getting a fever, and Reggie insisting he’ll stay up with him because he’s the only one who can read the thermostat (besides Willie, who was out all day trying to find meds and is exhausted.) Don’t think about people trying to tell him they’ll just wake him for the reading and he’s already doing so much.
-Don’t think about Reggie shouting ‘He’s my dad too!’ at Julie before immediately apologising, because of the yelling, because of course it’s not the same and he isn’t really...
-And Julie just hugs him and tells him of course Ray is his dad too, but he’s stretching himself too thin. They compromise, Reggie will stay with him until his fever breaks.
-As the teens grow into adults, there are some very serious talks about Privacy. It starts with rotating who gets to sleep out in the studio. Eventually, Julie and Luke move into the house next door, possibly with Flynn (and a good pair of earplugs). They tear down the fence between the two properties for easy acces. Maybe even build a tunnel connecting the two.
-Mr and Mrs Taylor across the street. They’d move back to their house, but it’s too far down the block to be safe. Still, everyone spends a few days moving around furniture to get the house to their liking.
-Alex, Reggie and Willie don’t move out, though they might move into the studio loft. Sometimes when needed, Reggie or Willie will sleep over at one of the other houses. But Alex is way too anxious to learn a whole new layout of a whole new house, and he doesn’t want to leave Liv alone, even though tells Alex it’s fiiine, she’s practically an adult now, Lex. (”You are sixteen! That is not an adult! I don’t care if it is the apocalypse!”)
-After the first successful beach trip, they maybe take a few more in larger groups. Not too often that it becomes a routine, because leaving their home defenseless is a bad idea. But for very special occasions, they do.
-It is a very awkward conversation when Julie is like: hey Reggie can you do me a favour and tell me if this has one line or two lines? Yeah thanks that’s what I thought so anyway I’m pregnant. And Reggie is like WHY DID YOU JUST SHOVE SOMETHING YOU PEED ON AT MY FACE before realising what this means and then he’s ecstatic and calling dibs on godfather and second-coolest uncle (after Carlos of course.)
-Luke and Julie 100% had a discussion where the went back and forth between ‘should I take a pregnancy test and ask Reggie or Willie’ vs ‘do we just not say anything and hope nobody bumps into Julie until Reggie or Willie very awkwardly brings up her giant stomach’ but in the end they decided they probably needed to tell people because of the whole ‘eating for two’ and ‘Willie can you please go and steal some pregnancy vitamins’ thing.
-They all live happily ever after except for the whole triffid apocalypse thing.

Hello, please do prompt 21 for willex!! So excited!
And also for @legolasghosty who asked for the same with Willex(ie). Because you all love the giant skeleton prompt lol.
You'd think after several months of being crammed into a tour bus during their first tour ever, Alex would have cringed at the idea of pooling their money to buy a house together as a band. But it wasn't like they were making Mansion Money (not yet! the Bobby in his mind shouted), and well, he kind of liked their little house. He liked seeing his friends every day. They each had their own bedroom, they converted the garage into a music studio, and there were enough bathrooms that nobody wanted to murder the others on a regular basis.
The house was in a nice neighbourhood, but nice in the way that people smiled and nodded at each other on the street, not nice as in 'everyone's lawn is immaculate and exactly according to HOA standards'. The house on the corner had an alarming amount of garden gnomes, there was a Little Free Library a few houses down, and apparently people went kind of hard decorating for the holidays.
Reggie had been more than happy to sweet talk the little old lady with the Pomeranian from down the street into giving up her source for decorative gourds. But it wasn't enough, so they decided to plan a trip to the nearest Spirit Halloween.
It wasn't like they planned to come home with a twelve foot skeleton. But it was there, and it was awesome, and when Alex had tried to object, Luke had turned to him with a: "We're the adults now, bro. We get to decide what that means."
And well, how could Alex object to that?
"Okay," he'd agreed. "But only if we can rig it so he's holding a pride flag."
And so, Clyde The Pride Skeleton was erected in their front yard, much to the delight of a lot of their neighbours. It wasn't uncommon for people to stop and take pictures, for little kids to shout HI CLYDE on their way to school, and for the local teens to salute him while biking past. Alex kind of loved it.
So yeah, he wasn't particularly upset to find a stranger in their front yard taking selfies with Clyde. The skeleton was located far enough to the front of their yard and they had enough greenery and porch between him and the house that their privacy wasn't exactly compromised. And well, who wouldn't want a picture with a giant gay skeleton?
The thing that was alarming was how this guy was taking selfies.
Because he was on stilts. Stilts high enough that when Alex looked out of his bedroom window, he was face to face with the beautiful, handsome, insane stranger in the front yard.
"Hi! I love your skeleton!" the guy called, waving as Alex opened up his widow in alarm.
"What the hell are you doing?" he called, a little alarmed. The guy was really, really high up.
"Taking a selfie?" Stilt Guy responded, wiggling his phone a little for emphasis.
"Okay," Alex huffed to himself, because obviously. "Why are you on stilts?"
"Oh!" the guy beamed. "Because else I couldn't get his face and my face in the frame!"
Which made a weird kind of sense but also who had giant stilts just lying around? How far had this guy walked with (on? that was a terrifying thought) giant stilts just to get a selfie with Clyde.
The guy moved around the skeleton, coming up to the window, and while Alex thought he should probably be more concerned, the closer the guy got, the more he realised he was very, very pretty. Besides, if he was a creep, he'd be easy to topple over.
"I'm Willie!" Stilt Guy said.
"Alex," Alex said. "Do you always have giant stilts with you, or did you make a special trip just to meet Clyde?"
"His name is Clyde?" Willie's smile became even wider. "I mean, I had them in my backpack, I just did a shift at the Hollywood Ghost Carnival. They're collapsible. You'd be surprised how handy they can be!"
"Uhuh. I bet you rescue a lot of kittens stuck in trees," Alex said sarcastically, and okay, maybe a little flirtatiously. Listen, it wasn't ever day that a handsome stranger hovered outside your bedroom window wanting to chat.
And so they did. For like half an hour, Alex sitting in the window sill and Willie shuffling around on his stilts. He told the story of Clyde the Pride Skeleton, Willie told him about his job at the Carnival, and they both flirted up a storm.
Alex was just about to offer Willie to come inside (through the window, through the front door, whatever would be easier in the giant stilts), when Reggie came running down the street.
"Guys, do we have a ladder?" he called. "Mr Emerson's cat is stuck in a tree in front of the Molina's house and she sounds so sad, we gotta help her out!"
Willie met his eyes. The mischievous smile was back.
Alex groaned. Okay, so he'd been proven wrong. "Actually I think we got something that will work!" he called down, and when Reggie turned to look, his face lit up.
Maybe afterwards, they could still grab a coffee or something. You know, on the ground like normal people.

For the moodboard: Ralexie mechanic au?
Tumblr media
Everything is terrible and bad and horrifying. First the van with all their instruments - the van that Bobby trusted Alex and Reggie to drive alone, after much convincing from all of them that it would be fine if he and Luke went ahead to scout out extra places to play - breaks down before they even leave LA.
Then the mechanic is so freaking hot that Alex forgets how to English and makes a total fool out of himself.
And then, his stupid-ass boyfriend takes it upon himself to flirt with the hot mechanic for Alex. And best worst of all, it's working.
