Unpopular opinion: the gentleman bastards could take on the crows (all 6) and still win. Even if it's just Locke and Jean.

Locke Lamora is the most successful fail girl of all time and no one can change my mind otherwise

Oh no I've joined the end of the queue of people who have already been waiting 6+ years for the next Gentleman Bastard book. What have I done to myself.

Since Scott Lynch still hasn't released the fourth book in the gentleman bastard series I've been successfully reading Red Seas Under Red Skies for four years. That way by the time I've finished The Republic Of Thieves the book will *hopefully* be released. The math is mathing.
The math is mathing.

Ok sorry for all the Locke Lamora posting but one of the funniest things to me is that Camorr is this dark gritty city with regular fights to the death and public executions and you’re like okay that’s wack but I guess that’s just how it is in this world
And then book two is set in a different city and everyone’s like yeah Camorr’s just fucking insane

The real tragedy about the gentleman bastards having less then 140 fics on AO3 is there isn’t nearly enough fics of Jean comforting a shaking Locke Lamora after he “betrayed” him

Am I being extremely obtuse or is there actually ZERO internet discourse about the Gentleman Bastards Sequence very clearly being a Sherlock Holmes adaptation and why?
Is it so obvious no one feels the need to say it? Have I imagined this comparison? I just need someone to confirm or deny this.

I am so normal about The Lies of Locke Lamora. I love this book so much. How had no one ever recommended it to me before??? It's right up my alley! I finished the whole thing in 3 days, and then read for 7 hours straight to finish book 2 before coming back to campus.
Locke Lamora by beloved. He's such a ridiculous man, in all the best ways. Not to mention he gets the shit beat out of him a satisfying number of times. And you know I love found family / best friends who would do anything for each other.
I knew exactly how that last scene in Red Seas In Red Skies was going to go, but that didn't make me lose my mind over it any less. "I couldn't stand to see you die." yeah? Well imagine how Jean feels!! He feels the same way about you, you idiot bastard!

My (very rough) contributions to the fandom.
Locke, Jean, Ezri, and then bonus bby Locke before and after joining the Gentleman Bastards.
This is the first fandom I've been in I haven't seen anime style fanart for before so I'm feeling out of my depth (the books have been around for so long too!)
But (Thirteen) Gods I love them so much

got any book recs? I'm into swashbuckling and fantasy and Characters with Problems
Fantasy Characters with Problems™? Boy do I have a series rec for you!
Tumblr media
Joe Abercrombie's "First Law" series is full to the BRIM of characters with problems. There's something deeply wrong with everyone in here haha
The First Law isn't the most swashbuckling though — for that, maybe V.E. Schwab's Shades Of Magic, I'd also recommend Scott Lynch's The Gentleman Bastard Sequence since the second book (Red Seas Under Red Skies) has it's fair share of swashbuckling too. And possibly Joe Abercrombie's other series, The Shattered Sea, might also be one to check out
Thanks for the ask!
