pierce brown really did end the first red rising trilogy with the female love interest becoming the new ultimate leader and his male protagonist becoming what is essentially her trophy husband, and honestly he’s so real for that.

One of the fun subtle characterizations I like throughout the series is the adoption of red slang as a way of showing that a person has fully committed to the rising.
So I present—baby’s first bloodydamns:
Sevro (GS ch 23)

Victra (MS ch 17)

Mustang (MS ch 40)

Cassius (LB ch 11)

Virginia really took a look at Darrow at his meanest and said 'damn, he's hot'. Then watched as he sacrificed his win to help her and she said 'i crave him biblically' and hasn't stopped ever since 😩.

Lysander, at the parley with Virginia: Finally, I get to talk to someone with decency and good sense.
Mustang, who’s been hanging around too many Howlers: Suck my dick, bitchboy.
Lysander: W-what?
Mustang: And choke on these nuts.

Mustang and Darrow don’t need words:
“So we attack during the day?” Mustang guesses. “Naturally,” I say. Sometimes I wonder why we even bother speaking. She knows my thoughts. Even the mad ones. - Red Rising
“Pliny wants me still, and he wants Darrow for the Sovereign. (…)” “And he figured if anyone would know where I was, it’d be you.” “So tracking me is how he will find this fleet.” Mustang says. Lorn looks back and forth at us. “When did you two discuss this?” “Just now,” Mustang says, confused at the question. Sevro claps Lorn on the shoulder. “Don’t worry. You’re not senile. They’re just odd.” - Golden Son
Would that I could hear Mustang’s take on this plan. Before, I’ve missed her lips, her scent, but now I miss the comfort that comes knowing her mind is aligned with mine. When I was with her, I did not feel so alone. - Morning Star
Well, except maybe this one time…
“Then her. The girl you lost.” I say nothing. (…) “Silence isn’t the answer right now, Darrow.” After a moment, she leaves me alone in the room.

One of the things I love about Darrow is how much he loves mustang.
Tumblr media
He never fails to just pause and describe her with this vibe of admiration and respect even when he's wary of her especially during this scene.

So we know that Pax’s existence was a shock to Darrow once they finally met (seeing as Pax was kept secret). We also know that Pax was most likely conceived near the end of Golden Son, and that he was born roughly a few months before the beginning of Morning Star. Right?
Which means that during Morning Star (after the holo-message from Adrius) when Darrow and Virginia get down and fuck: she should look like she’s recently given birth, yes? And growing up a red with a big family in a crowded household, Darrow would probably have a decent idea what a woman looks like after giving birth?
Which could mean a few things. Either Virginia got cosmetic procedures after her birth to cover up any evidence that she’d recently had a child (which is a very Virginia thing to do. Except we know she didn’t do that, because in Dark Age the Duke of Hands says some shit about how her body shows lingering signs of childbirth. Of course he could have been lying, and he had good reason to be when he said that).
The other possibility, is that Darrow simply did not notice. He was just happy to have her. Or, at some point during the sexy times, he subconsciously decided that he simply would not look, ask or prob. Not the time. Not his place.
Or the books are just written by a man idk.

you can't tell me that if cassius had lived he wouldn't have ended up in a throuple with darrow and virginia
like i dont think a throuple is always the answer to a love triangle
but sometimes a dark and brooding pair needs a himbo with mild alcoholism to remind them that it's ok bc everything might be falling apart but he's still really hot so how bad can things be

Darrow holding Pax for the first time is so magical, because he couldn't believe he is deserving to even have his own child, hold his own child or even be worthy of being a father.
He could believe Virginia has a child, that she is a mother, loved that of her and loved her child. But it took time to realise that...she chose him as the child's father. Pax is their son, his son as well. He is good enough, he is loved, he is accepted.
Given all the odds against them, to see his biggest dream in the palms of his war-battered hands, to feel that every pain was worth this very moment, to be reassured over and over that it's real...magnificent!
The healing softness of this very moment through Virginia's eyes because Darrow is lost to words and thoughts and had given in to just feeling. Dark Age is just better, argue with your ma'.
