pierce brown really did end the first red rising trilogy with the female love interest becoming the new ultimate leader and his male protagonist becoming what is essentially her trophy husband, and honestly he’s so real for that.

One thing I love about Red Rising is how often characters, but especially Darrow, just go “I do not want to be here, I do not want to fight, I do not want to break bones and feel blood on my hands. I want to be in peace with the people who love me. But to honor those people/keep them safe I’ll fight.”
Darrow as a protagonist is brutally honest about being scared and lost and sad. He’s a myth, he’s cultivated a reputation of a killer. But all he ever wanted was to be a father and a husband.

Darrow literally has more light scenes with Cassius than with Sevro or Virginia and Cassius isn't even there with him for 3 of the 6 books
(he so clearly wants what Darrow and Sevro have😭)
Wait there are more in the reblog-

Darrow at the Institute draft: wouldn’t it be cool if I had a bomb on me so I could take out some of the best and brightest of Gold rule, lmao
Darrow at the gala with a bomb on him surrounded by the best and brightest of Gold rule: well about that
