This pretty gown first appeared in the 1982 British television series 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒓𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒓 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒐𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒍𝒆𝒔 when Susan Hampshire wore it as Signora Madeline Neroni. Initially, the dress had flowers sewn onto the front, but they were removed for the 2001 𝑽𝒊𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒂 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑨𝒍𝒃𝒆𝒓𝒕, where Victoria Hamilton wore it as Queen Victoria. In 2003 the television movie 𝑯𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝑪𝒉𝒓𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒏 𝑨𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆𝒏: 𝑴𝒚 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝑭𝒂𝒊𝒓𝒚 𝑻𝒂𝒍𝒆 used it on an uncredited extra. . . . . . . . . . This beautifully beaded Robe à 𝒍𝒂 𝑭𝒓𝒂𝒏ç𝒂𝒊𝒔𝒆 is an excellent example of how the lighting in different films can affect the color of a dress. The dress can appear white, silver, gold, and even a dark gray, depending on the lighting. In reality, the dress is white with silver beading, gold embroidery, and hanging pearls. The sheer amount of detail in this gown is incredible. This dress was made for 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒂𝒅𝒏𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑲𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑮𝒆𝒐𝒓𝒈𝒆 𝒊𝒏 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟒, where Helen Mirren wore it as Queen Charlotte. In 1999 it was worn by Jodhi May as Sarah Lennox. The dress was seen in the background, worn by extras in the 2001 film 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒎 𝑳𝒆 𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆 𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒍𝒐𝒖𝒑𝒔 (𝑩𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒍𝒇), as well as 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑨𝒇𝒇𝒂𝒊𝒓 𝒐𝒇 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑵𝒆𝒄𝒌𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆. In 2006 it was used in the episode of 𝑫𝒐𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓 𝑾𝒉𝒐 entitled 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑮𝒊𝒓𝒍 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑭𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒍𝒂𝒄𝒆, where Sophia Myles wore it as Madame de Pompadour. At this point, the pearl drops on the engageantes (lace cuffs) have mostly fallen off. Brooches seem to have been added to the top of the stomacher at this point to give it a different look. . . . . . . . . .       All intellectual property rights vests with the owner of the copyrighted material. Sorry I cannot post them all at once, but they will all get posted eventually. I like to space them out. One Dress a Day Challenge
May: Purple Redux
Star Trek: The Next Generation (s2e19, "Manhunt") / Majel Barrett as Lwaxana Troi
Lwaxana arrives on board the Enterprise in this elaborate, beautifully beaded robe over a sparkly lavender gown with a plunging neckline and dangling ropes of gold beads over the skirt. You can see them in motion in the side view picture above.
But hang on--that robe looks familiar. Is it ...?
Holy smokes, I think it is! "Crêpes Suzette's" robe from Darling Lili! It's even got the triangular bit hanging down from the neckline in back!

Caroline Chikezie as Lisa in Torchwood Season 1 Episode 4 - "Cyberwoman"
Thierry Mugler for Vogue Magazine (1995)
Zendaya at the premiere of 'Dune: Part Two' (2024)
After @zegalba posted photos of Thierry Mugler A/W 1995 Robot Suit and Zendaya wearing said suit at the Dune: Part Two premiere, I raced to check images of Lisa the Cyberwoman from Torchwood, thinking I had another post in the making for @recycledmoviecostumes. It is clearly not the same suit, but it is possible that the costume designer for Torchwood was inspired by the Thierry Mugler suit.

Am I correct to assume that these are the same costumes from Bye Bye Birdie being reused in The Monkees? Both were on the Columbia lot too, I believe.

I remember talking to someone about a month or even two or three ago about this Mahidevran costume and it being used on Fahriye as well as Gülfem. Unfortunately I can’t find that conversation anymore. I have found the scenes with Fahriye now and am currently in the process of submitting this costume to @recycledmoviecostumes. I would like to credit you. So if you read this, please send me a message or comment underneath this post, so I know who to credit.

I’m pretty sure these two dresses are the same. First time I saw it was on Cristiana Capotondi in Sisi (2009) and it appeared again on an extra in the second episode of The Empress, when Elisabeth arrives in Vienna.
Tumblr media
There has also been another reused dress in The Empress (2022). This golden dress first appeared on two episodes of fairytale anthology series Sechs auf einen Streich. First on Alexandra Martini as Princess Isabella in Die Salzprinzessin and then again on Collien Ulmen-Fernandez as The Sugar Fairy in Nussknacker and Mäusekönig. The Empress used it Irene Della Casa as Baroness Francesca.
Have you spotted any costumes or accessoires you have seen before? If so, report them to the wonderful archive of @recycledmoviecostumes

I think I have seen this costumes before, that was just used on Madeleine de La Tour d'Auvergne in The Serpent Queen 1x01. But so far it hasn’t been listed on @recycledmoviecostumes, so it must have been only one other movie or series but I can’t remember where anymore. Does anyone recognize this dress?

This light blue floral gown was designed by Adrian for Mae Busch as Madame La Motte in the 1938 film 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒆 𝑨𝒏𝒕𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆, though it is only seen in black and white. Years later, in 1952, the gown’s color was revealed in the classic film 𝑺𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏’ 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒂𝒊𝒏, where it was worn by an extra. . . . . . . . . . So, I have just watched Becket (1964) and I am excited for I have spotted a @recycledmoviecostumes!
I recognised this one instantly, because there are several colour publicity shots of Julian Glover wearing it as Richard I in Doctor Who, but here it is, worn first by Peter O’Toole as Henry II in the film:

I put on some The Golden Girls for lunch, and there is a 1954 flashback in the episode (s3e2 One For the Money) where Sofia wears this:
Tumblr media
And looking at the front pleates, the shoulders, the sleeves, it kinda looks like a circa 1860 day dress, so it might have been originally for some period drama, then altered for this scene. @recycledmoviecostumes what do you think?
