VOGUE meets with sharpay evans to discuss her life and family!
interviewer : you're known as a triple threat. a singer, dancer, actress - what can't you do!
sharpay evans : yeah, it's definitely been amazing having the recognition for all my hard work ... but i can't cook. i literally almost burned down my kitchen once, fun fact.
interviewer : before we talk about your rise to fame, you lived in albuquerque, new mexico briefly. what was that like?
sharpay evans : i did. when i moved there when i was sixteen and was there till i graduated from high school.
interviewer : what made you end up in new mexico?
sharpay evans : my past really isn't super hidden. i was just hanging around the wrong crowds and getting into trouble in my early teens. everyone thought it would be best that i just get a break from the nepo scene so was sent to live with my uncle vincent, aunt charlotte and cousin tiara.
interview : you boomed into the spotlight at the age of eighteen with your debut album, the new classic, and became known as the pop princess. what was that like?
sharpay evans : you know, i grew up in this industry. my parents really guided me every step of the way once they knew i was serious about my career. i'm really appreciative of my fans and even being given that title is such an honor.
interviewer : speaking of your parents, you're the daughter of hollywood actress derby evans and musician and producer vance evans?
sharpay evans : does this count towards one of the questions?
interviewer : yes, i guess it does, haha. what was it like being raised by them?
Tumblr media
sharpay evans: my mother, oh my mother. she is an amazing human being and dealt with so much between me and ry. again, i caused a lot of trouble for her and she wore my trouble on her sleeves while still being a famous, well-known actress providing for us. growing up, she would take us to set with her and we'd be playing on the lot or in set school. if we were lucky, we were able to watch her scenes and i still remember being constantly fascinated by everything she did. if you didn't know, there's an indie film she did once where she had to have a kid casted and my mom advocated so hard to have me play her daughter because she knew i had the talent to be an actress even at such a young age. my mom has always believed in me. i won't lie about the fact we went through a rough patch during my teens and briefly after i broke up with my ex but i admire who that woman is every single day. i mean, there's a reason i wrote don't tell my mom on heartbreak/her and included one of her voicemails. if i ever have kids, i hope to be half as patient and loving as she is. i also just hope i don't have menaces like i was, haha.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sharpay evans : now my father, he is the reason i developed such a passion for music. looking back, i was so in awe of his life touring and him making music in the studios. i don't know how but like my mom he just saw a natural talent in me. i mean, he was gone a decent amount growing up but that was his career and he did what he needed to do to provide for us and i think that also took a toll out of him especially once i started rebelling. i remember when i came back from new mexico essentially a new person he just held me for a really long time and cried. mind you, this is a rock singer who i don't even think i had seen him cry before that very moment. my dad struggled with his own demons for years because of the industry but never really talks about it even with me till this day. i think for us, we just have a mutual understanding that, no matter what, we're here to lean on one another for support and that at the end of the day we're family. he has guided me in so many ways in life and that memory is probably, if not, my favorite of ours. i know he is proud of me.
Tumblr media
interviewer : do you think there was anything they could have done differently?
sharpay evans : i think they did the best with what they were equipped to do. they were first time parents dealing with a kid who liked to party and you know... participate in not so great things. i struggled sharing my parents with the world as i got older and really was having a hard time understanding the nepo scene even though i grew up in it. my dad constantly was on tours or my mom was filming movies so the attention was diverted away from me and ry. i now know i should have probably just verbalized my problems rather than defaulting to some ... illegal activities. although i don't necessarily agree with some of the choices they made, i don't hold them at fault for it.
interviewer : at least you're honest! well first, i hope your twin brother, ryan, is doing great! how did he handle all of this?
Tumblr media
sharpay evans : he is actually! he's currently doing some acting gigs on broadway right now. if you didn't know, he is actually older than me by one minute. but to answer your question, he took everything pretty hard. he came with me to new mexico for about a year but i told him to go back home to california. he found me on the floor one time after a situation and rushed me to the emergency room. like i think i traumatized him and i still feel so bad about it till this day. he's my heart that's walking on the outside of my body and the fact i hurt him so bad was devastating. ryan genuinely means everything to me. he suffered together, cried together, laughed together. we talk every day and even now, not living in the same state as one another is literally so difficult. he's just such an amazing person who dealt and cleaned up so much of my mess. i genuinely love him more than life itself.
Tumblr media
interviewer : if we can back track to new mexico. you mentioned an uncle, aunt and cousin , what were they like?
sharpay evans : oh they're everything i hope to have in a relationship. my cousin well... lets just say i understand.
Tumblr media
sharpay evans : my uncle vincent, i don't know if you know, was a child actor way back when but he met my aunt at a relatively young age and from what i'm told, knew from the very moment he laid his eyes on her that was his soulmate. she was just a waitress in los angeles living paycheck to paycheck wanting nothing to do with the celebrity lifestyle. when they turned eighteen, they got married but she was wanting to leave california and without hesitation, he followed her anywhere and left his career. he's now a criminal defense lawyer and is actually really happy doing it. crazy enough, the second i got to his front step i rolled my eyes at him and he literally locked me outside in the rain for twenty minutes and i had to sit on the curb until my aunt came home from work realizing what he had done. he was a strict man with me but i think i needed that type of role in my life. he wanted me to have structure and rules to know that every action and decision i made had consequences. i guess that was the lawyer in him. my uncle vincent really is such an amazing man and i'm really lucky to have a role model like him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sharpay evans : my aunt charlotte, again she was just a waitress when first meeting my uncle but now is a transplant coordinator at a hospital. i have never in a million years met a more down to earth and genuine human being before. we weren't really raised around my aunt or uncle and it wasn't because of any bad blood but really because of time scheduling. i mean, it worked out because i built a relationship with everyone on my own accord but i can genuinely say that my aunt charlotte is like a second mother to me. there's also a reason why her voicemail is on heartbreak/her. she was concerned about my well-being just as much as my mother and not hearing from me was extremely concerning. she knew i was okay but still wanted to hear from me. it was actually my aunt who convinced me to try out for drama club, get into choir and re-enroll in dance classes while i was in high school just to keep out of trouble and keep me pre-occupied. she always had my best interest at heart and knew that i needed compassion along with compassion.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
sharpay evans : tiara is my younger cousin. she is relatively ... similar to me in my personality. i think that's why we tend to buttheads frequently. i get it - i took a lot of her parents attention away when i moved to new mexico. it was exactly the problem i was facing with my own parents and hollywood. we just ran into issues when she constantly was trying to sabotage my life and that's not me being dramatic. she literally tried to steal my role in my play on opening night. thankfully, i managed to put a stop to it and we talked it out but i think when i left she was just excited to finally have her house back and be considered a single child again. i love her, i really do and i want her to have the best life possible but i hope she grows into herself just like i did at some point.
Tumblr media
interviewer : wow. it seems like new mexico really helped you, huh?
sharpay evans : honestly, i think i'll always have a deep appreciation for my aunt, uncle and even cousin. they molded me into who i am today. without them, i can genuinely say i don't think i'd be even here doing seventy - three questions with vogue.
interviewer : and what's it like being in the spotlight now compared to then?
sharpay evans : i wasn't prepared back then. i was literally a kid and the tabloids were absolutely ruthless towards me. i had no business being in the spotlight when i barely was in any projects and hadn't even released any music yet. thankfully, now, i have such an amazing support system between my mom, dad, ryan, my uncle vincent, aunt charlotte and even tiara and my pr team. everyone's primary goal is making sure not only myself but my image stays protected and safe. i feel so much more confident now being in the celebrity spotlight between making music and acting compared to back then.
interviewer : well, thank you so much for sharing yourself, your family and your house with vogue. is there anything else you want to share?
sharpay evans : yeah, stay tuned for my next album! now get out!

A children's game in which Evan is a princess and Jonathan is a prince
Marcel runs around the tower, his tail dragging on the floor behind him. It’s a good thing he wore his dino onesie today, because now it’s easier to pretend to be a dragon.
“Oh, whatever shall I do? The evil dragon surely won’t let me escape!” Evan sighs, chin propped up in his hands as he leans over the playground tower’s window ledge. He’s wearing a bright pink tutu he found in the dress-up box, and a little silver tiara to match. He flutters his eyelashes innocently, awaiting his “rescue.”
“I shall save you!” Jonathan declares, standing up on the high end of the seesaw, only for it to plonk back down, and Jon tumbles off. He picks up his crown, re-donning it and picking up his “sword” which is really just a stick, since Scotty didn’t feel like giving up the foam sword from the dress-up box.
“My hero.” Evan cheers quite half-heartedly, as he watches his hero stumble over to the tower, ready to provoke the dragon.
“You shall never save him!” Marcel snarls, gnashing his teeth for effect.
“Yes I will!” Jon replies. He slashes the stick around, pretending to hit Marcel, but even if he did, the stick is too flimsy to do any real damage.
Marcel breaths fire all over Jon, who stumbles backwards, falling to the ground with a dramatic cry.
“Alas, you have bested me!” Jon declares, clutching his chest as he “dies”.
“That’s it?!” Evan exclaims.
“Yeah, dude - I’m the dragon. You’re supposed to kill me. The good guy always wins.” Marcel frowns, glaring at Jon with an unamused disappointment.
“You breathed fire on me! I’m totally dead!” Jon protests, sitting upright.
“Whatever, you suck as a good guy.” Marcel says, rolling his eyes. He turns to Scotty, who’s still “polishing” his foam sword. “Hey Scott, come kill me I’m a dragon!”
Jon sighs and looks up to Evan, who simply shrugs and slides down to him.
“Marcel’s right, you do suck as a prince.” He says, helping his friend off of the ground. “Can I be the one who rescues you now?”
“Yeah, I think maybe that’s for the best.” Jonathan sighs.
[This is the last request I’m taking on tumblr, only because it was already queued :)]

Smokey brand Reviews: Life Is Unfair
WandaVision finished last week and i had planned to write and entire review about it as, you know. ‘m a hardcore Marvel shill, bu i opted to wait a bit. I wanted time to let the show marinate and then revisit it all at once to see if i still felt the way i did during the initial run. I’ve written little standalone posts, her and there, about specific episodes or characters as the show aired but i wanted to kind of document everything good and bad, that i noticed watching the MCU’s fist attempt at long form content. Objectively, I'm probably still pretty bias toward the show because it’s been a year since we got any new MCU content so there might not be a ton of critique in this bad boy. Plus, i really like Darcy so this thing already starts with bonus points.
The Good
The overall concept of this how being Wanda’s journey through the stages of grief was brilliant. I don’t know if this was ever officially acknowledged, but you can actually see a stage for every two episodes. Denial is basically the entirety of the first two episodes while seven and eight are straight up Depression. Going back through knowing that really makes for a far more potent watch.
I mentioned Darcy before but i really liked how Jimmy Woo got to shine here as well. Dude was one of the best things about Ant-Man II and i just really want dude to get bumped up into SWORD already.
The acting in this is exceptional. I wrote about Lizzy Olsen’s outstanding performance in it’s own posts a while back, but i need to acknowledge Paul Bettany as well. Dude is great in his role as Vision and i was a little bummed he got bumped off so soon after his introduction. I’m so glad Feige gave him such legs with this role because it really did Bettany a service in letting him actually show us who his Vision truly is.
Actually, the entire cast was pretty dope, overall. The child actors were kind of whack but they’re kids so that stands to reason but everyone else, did a decent job. The writing was pretty temperamental overall but everyone did their very best with the material given to them.
This series was pretty dope to look at. Like, the visual effects were spectacular at times. Not all of the time. There are chinks in the armor but, as a whole, this thing was very pleasing on the eye.
But dat White Vision, tho! White Vision is the Vision i grew up with as a kid. He was in that Avengers game and, at the time i got into comics, the primary Vision on the Avengers squad. I’ve always preferred that version of the character, mostly for nostalgia reasons, but i understood the red and green was classic styles. I carried no illusions about seeing a White Vision in the MCU but then BAM! WandaVision brings MY Vision to the Little Big Screen and i am forever grateful.
The sitcom aesthetic was a fun framing device. I really enjoyed recognizing all these shows that i used to watch growing up. When they hit me with the Malcolm in the Middle episode, i was the only one among my friends that immediately knew the reference. Malcolm is a lost gem, a classic in the sitcom hierarchy that more people should definitely watch. It f*cking launched Bryan Cranston’s career. We wouldn’t have Walter White if not for Hal Wilkerson.
Wanda’s Scarlet Witch costume is dope as f*ck. I was surprised she actually got a suit as, if i recall, her character wasn’t supposed to ever go full hero like that that. She even said the tiara thingy was dumb. Fast forward a decade later and there she is, tiara thingy and all.
The Meh
That Fox-Men Quicksilver bait was superfluous. Evan Peters was great, as always, but superfluous. His appearance in this show was unnecessary. A lot of people were crazy upset about the “reveal” but i didn’t care. I was pretty sure this show wasn’t going to be the mutant backdoor everyone wanted it to be.
The Bad
Monica’s origin kind of sucks. The actress, herself, did a great job with what he had but the overall character arc was a little flaccid. They did a disservice to Teyonah Parris with that. There were hints that she’s capable of much more, particularly the opening seen where she returns from the Snap, but that potential was never fully realized and it’s unfortunate. It makes her overall character feel inconsequential.
Also, the f*ck are those powers, man? Monica in the comics is a straight up powerhouse, especially in her current Spectrum persona. It’s a little ridiculous to me that she would get dog-walked so easily by literally anyone she came into contact with. Bro, Monica is on the Ultimates. She shares space with Black Panther, Blue Marvel, Captain Marvel, and America Chavez. T’Chala is a top ten genius in the Marvel Universe, so is Adam Brashear on top of being a living anti-mater generator, Carol Danvers is probably the most powerful human hero currently in the 616, and America can literally punch her way into other dimensions. And Monica’s power set slides right in line with those people. Plus, they have a pet Galactus. But MCU Monica stopped bullets by letting them Vision phase through her body kind off. The audacity!
They did my girl Agatha so wrong. When she was Agnes, she was dope as f*ck! I loved her insidious suggestion and the way she just inserted herself into everything; It was delicious! Kathryn Hahn was great as Agnes. And then she went full witch and lost all of that charm. It was so disappointing, you know? She was well on her way to becoming a second Justin Hammer only to be relegated to the same level of clownery as Yellowjacket or Malekith.
While touching on Agatha’s generic villain-ness, her climactic battle with Wanda was so cliche. It as really disappointing. You have two, dumb powerful witches, and you resort to what is effectively laser beam in the sky. There was a distinct lack of imagination for so much potential available.
How is Vision a Vision without the Mind Stone? That was the bulk of his power. How is White Vision doing the same thing without the literally cosmic forced that predates the universe, powering his abilities? Questions for later i guess?
The pacing in this thing is mad wonky. Those first three episodes upon re-watch drag like nobody’s business. It picks up after that for three or four more episodes, but you can definitely tell those last few were mad rushed. It’s a crazy uneven show altogether but i can’t say it really takes you out of it
Tyler Hayward is a terrible villain. Arguably, the worst.
The Verdict
WandaVision was pretty okay, definitely the right show for which to introduce us to Phase Four. That said, it peaked way too early, man. Like, i enjoyed this thing thoroughly, it's a nice start to what looks to be a darker turn for the MCU, but it felt kind of wonky. Bad pacing, man, and SO many loose strings to tie going forward. There were some lackluster character choices, Monica feels dumb underdeveloped, but all in all? Not bad. If this thing were a movie, I'd say it'd be about upper mid tier. About as good as Endgame and, say, Guardians II. WandaVision is better than everything in Phase One but staggers against the better films in Phase Two and doesn’t even touch It can't touch the best in the Franchise. Iron Man, Infinity War or Winter Soldier blow this show out of the water. As a vehicle for Wanda Maximoff, it is excellent. This is definitely her origin story, even if it doesn’t stick the landing as assuredly as i would have wanted.

Review: ?Professor Marston and the Wonder Women? has a lot on its plate
Tumblr media
?Professor Marston and the Wonder Women? has a lot on its plate ? you can see it right there in the title. It says we?re going to get a biopic about the man who dreamed up Wonder Woman, with an acknowledgment of his academic credentials, and it also hints that his inspirations were multiple ? that more than one woman went into the creation of Diana Prince, the character most recently portrayed by Gal Gadot in this year?s multimillion-dollar epic ?Wonder Woman.?
About watch professor marston and the wonder women 2017 doesn?t tell you is that the movie?s a loving, sensitive exploration of S&M bondage techniques and polyamorous relationships.
Which, of course, makes it sound far more lurid than it is. In the playing, ?Professor Marston? is both a breakthrough and fairly stodgy. It squarely obeys the rules of the biopic genre, with a central character narrating us back through the lives in question and expert attention to period dress and dcor.
Yet its portrayal of William Moulton Marston (Luke Evans) and the two women he loved ? there were more in real life, but never mind ? is tender, loving, and open to anything that consenting adults choose to do behind closed doors. The movie feels a little like ?Henry & June? ( thanostv ) with a lot less lyricism and a dash more kink.
Whatever it is, it?s not based on Jill Lepore?s 2014 prize-winning nonfiction account of Marston, ?The Secret History of Wonder Woman,? which is a great read and highly recommended. A long-in-the-works passion project from writer-director Angela Robinson (?D.E.B.S.,? HBO?s ?True Blood?), ?Professor Marston? finds the Saugus-born title character ensconsed at Harvard University in the Roaring ?20s, giving lectures on psychology to enraptured Radcliffe students while his scholar wife, Elizabeth (Rebecca Hall) ? arguably the more brilliant of the two ? tilts at the hidebound college administration.
They were intrigued by the physiological manifestations of deception ? the ways we lie and how it shows ? and the couple came up with an early predecessor of the polygraph test that in the film is used for both dramatic and comedic effect. But Marston also had novel theories about human desire and destiny, how great existential safety could be found in being lovingly controlled and restrained. The Marstons lived his theories in both their daily lives, with the arrival of a young student named Olive Byrne (Bella Heathcote), and in the pages of the comic books William wrote.
Byrne is portrayed as initially dewy-eyed and prim; she turns out to have feminist birth-control pioneer Margaret Sanger for an aunt and definite ideas about women?s role in society. The three enter into an unconventional but mostly happy long-term menage a trois that, about midway through the movie, delves decorously into ropes-and-scarves territory. The neighbors are shocked, but the film successfully portrays the relationship as emotional, genuine, at times difficult to maintain, but ultimately quite happy. And when Heathcote?s Olive dresses up with a lariat and a dime-store tiara for some erotic play, you sense the pulsing hormonal subtext behind our Spandexed superheroes.
Some of us in recent years have bought young daughters reprints of the original ?Wonder Woman? comic books hoping for empowerment stories and getting more than we bargained for: Daddy, why does the powerful heroine keep getting tied up with ropes and chains? The movie addresses the subject head-on through its framing narrative, with Marston grilled by Josette Frank (Connie Britton), head of the Child Study Association of America, while various grim-faced minions (including Boston-area musician, writer, and character actor Tim Jackson) look on.
But while ?Professor Marston? convinces us that Marston consciously used ?Wonder Woman? to advance his ideas about gender and psychology ? and there?s some rich comedy to be found between his high-minded approach and the low-down realities of the comic-book business ? Robinson doesn?t have any attitude toward the kink of early ?Wonder Woman,? good, bad, or indifferent. It?s just there, a byproduct of a man (and two women) who lived bravely, idealistically, and just the slightest bit naively.
It doesn?t help that Evans, an excellent actor who?s magnetic in villainous and supporting roles, doesn?t quite have the individuality to stamp Marston with the larger-than-life persona he was said to have had. Evans is fine but he?s overshadowed to some degree by Heathcote and definitely by Hall, whose Elizabeth Marston transforms over the years from a stiff-necked firebrand to an erotic author of her own desires, all while holding on to her feminism and her femininity. She?s perhaps the secret superheroine of this story centered on a more famous man. But it wouldn?t be the first time that?s happened.
