with the news of sleep token signing with rca (its huge, super proud of the guys- really hoping rca doesn’t fuck them over)
i just want to say: free palestine. rca supports israel which is hella unfortunate. but i also want to say don’t conflate the label’s morals with the band. there are plenty of bands signed by rca that support palestine- bring me the horizon is a very notable example!
i also doubt we’ll get any statement from the band so do with that what you will. they haven’t spoken on anything like this before, i doubt they’ll start now.
so in closing, i leave you with this. click the button once a day to donate to palestine 🇵🇸

Again Elvis was in the RCA studio in New York and he began the session at noon and ended it at 3.00 p.m. He recorded only 2 songs and was interviewed by Fred Danzig, a young reporter from New York.

ELVIS PRESLEY, RCA RECORDS ARTIST (Nov. 1955)
The story behind one of my favorite 50's Elvis pictures ♥
Tumblr media Tumblr media
November 21, 1955: Elvis Presley at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN. RCA Victor Records purchased Elvis Presley’s recording contract from Sam Phillips (Sun Records) for a then unheard of sum of $35,000.
Here's the full picture: Colonel Tom Parker, Elvis, Bob Neal (his second manager, after Scotty Moore and prior to Colonel Parker) and country music singer Hank Snow at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN, after signing the RCA contract at the Sun Records studio, previously in the same day.
Let's read a bit about the contract, afterwards.
Tumblr media
On November 21, Steve Sholes, Ben Starr, Coleman Tily, the Colonel, Tom Diskin, Hank Snow, local RCA distributor Jim Crudgington, and regional rep Sam Esgro all converged on the little Sun studio for the signing of the papers. Colonel Parker came accompanied by a document dated the same day stipulating that out of the 40 percent in combined commissions due the Colonel and Bob Neal (25 percent to the Colonel, 15 percent to Neal), there would be an even split for the duration of Neal's agreement, until March 15, 1956. The buyout agreement itself was a simple two-page document in which Sun Records agreed to tum over all tapes and cease all distribution and sales of previously released recordings as of December 31, 1955, while the managers "do hereby sell, assign and transfer unto RCA all of their right, title and interest in and to" the previously exercised option agreement. The purchase price was $35,000; RCA undertook responsibility for the payment of all back royalties and held Sun Records harmless from any subsequent claims. Out of all this Elvis Presley would get a royalty of 5 percent as opposed to the 3 percent that he was currently receiving from Sun - this amounted to almost two cents more per record sold, which over the course of a million sales would come to about $18,000. In addition, as the result of a co-publishing arrangement that the Colonel had entered into with Hill and Range (who probably contributed substantially themselves toward the purchase price), Elvis would now receive half of the two-cent statutory mechanical fee and half of the two-cent broadcast fee on all new Hill and Range compositions that he recorded, which would be registered through his own publishing company. If at this point he were to start writing songs as well, or, perhaps more pertinently, if he were to start claiming songwriting credit for songs he recorded, a practice going back to time immemorial in the recording industry, he could increase his income by up to another two cents per side. Hill and Range, meanwhile, stood to gain an almost incalculable advantage over their competitors in the field by securing not just an inside track, but what amounted to virtually a right of first refusal from the hottest new singing sensation in the country. After the contract was signed, there was a picture-taking ceremony, with different configurations of the various parties involved. In one Elvis is flanked by the Colonel and Hank Snow, proud partners in Jamboree Attractions, while Bob Neal, to Snow's left, jovially approves; in another Gladys plants a kiss upon her son's cheek and clutches her black handbag as the Colonel pats her on the shoulder and Vernon looks stiffly on. In yet another Sam and Elvis shake hands across RCA attorney Coleman Tily. In all the pictures all the men are beaming - everyone has seemingly gotten exactly what he wanted. After the picture taking a number of the participants dropped by for a brief on-air appearance on Marion Keisker's show in the brand-new WHER studios. "They thought it would be great fun," said Marion, "if they all came over and we announced it. So they all crowded into the little control room, and we did a little four-or-five-way interview, well, not really an interview, just a little chat. And in the course of it, I remember, Hank Snow said, 'I'm very proud this boy made his first appearance on the national scene on my section of the Grand Ole Opry.' And he was being such a pompous ass about it, I couldn't help it, but I said, 'Yes, and I remember, you had to ask him what his name was.' That was a rather tactless thing for me to do." — Excerpt: Last Train to Memphis: The Rise of Elvis Presley by Peter Guralnick (1994). Chapter "THE PIED PIPERS: September-November 1955".
OTHER PICTURES FROM THAT DAY - NOV. 21, 1955:
Elvis was 20 years old at the time, which means he was still legally a minor, therefore his father (Vernon Presley) also signed the contract, as his natural guardian, which is why Vernon and Gladys are there that day, in addition to the obvious reason (a big moment for their dear son).
The 1st picture below: the Colonel, Gladys, Elvis and Vernon Presley, H. Coleman Tily III (RCA's attorney) and Bob Neal at Sun Records (and a cropped picture of Elvis and Gladys just because <33); The second picture shows Bob Neal, Sam Phillips and Elvis shaking hands across RCA's attorney H. Coleman Tily III, and Colonel Parker; the third picture shows Elvis and Hank Snow that same day (Note: Elvis wearing a tie pictures were taken after the contract signing at Sun Records. The pictures were taken at the Peabody Hotel in Memphis, TN), and the one after that shows Jim Crudgington (local RCA-Victor representative), Elvis and H. Coleman Tily III at Sun - Nov. 21, 1955.

1974 REHEARSAL TAPES (PART ONE)
On August 16th, 1974, a rehearsal session was held at RCA’s Hollywood Studios, 6363 Sunset Boulevard, to bring some new material to the live setlist. Opening night in Las Vegas was on August 19th.
This might have been one of the last times that that a concerted effort would be made to work less familiar songs up to tight performance standard in a structured rehearsal, rather than actually on stage and in front of an audience. There was a sharp nod toward the commercial aspect as well, with a strong focus on promoting new material, either recently released or due out soon, the fruits of Elvis’ sessions at Stax Records, Memphis, in 1973.
The session personnel appear to be the core TCB Band; (James Burton, John Wilkinson, Ronnie Tutt, Duke Bardwell, Glen Hardin and Charlie Hodge) with backing vocals by Voice; Sherrill Nielsen, Donnie Sumner and Tim Baty.
Tracks featuring in this part of the rehearsal sessions are;
If You Love Me Let Me Know (More work on this track in Part II) Promised Land Down in the Alley It’s Midnight Your Love’s Been a Long Time Coming Goodtime Charlie’s Got the Blues.

We all have a huge fear that our favourite music artists are secretly, actually bad people right?😀🥲
I love Sleep Token's music with litterally my whole heart and soul and over time I've let myself get attached to the members as well. Which I usually try my best to avoid bc you'll never really know what a "famous" person is like unless you know them personally.
They recently signed with a new label called RCA records which made me kinda sadly firstly bc, well, i really like the music they've produced so far with the old label but also just bc I'm autistic and don't like change lol.
But that's not such a big thing to me, HOWEVER what is bothering me is that the label posted a post in support for Israelis for the attacks that happened the 7th of October which is completely okay but what about the people in Gaza and West Bank?? What the people are going through there is absolutely HORRIFIC and I hate to compare but they are going through a lot more than Israel is. Almost the whole Gaza is destroyed and so many people have been martyred and murdered. I just hope the Sleep Token members care about the people in Gaza as well bc I genuinely dont have words to describe what they are going through except for that it is hell on earth. No one should go through this.
Sleep Token is my favourite band, I listen to their music for comfort and play their music everyday if I dont listen to it at least once daily everything feels off. If I'd have separate the art from the artist that would suck so much and I wouldn't be able to enjoy the music the same.
Anyway thank you for reading my long ass rant😭

My Elvis Record Collection: JAILHOUSE ROCK EP
Hi y'all!
Imma be posting about some of my Elvis records because... Well, because I find it interesting lol. I 'spose it's a departure from the usual sort of Elvis posts, but I like collecting his records so... Here we are hahaha. And to kick off, it's my little Jailhouse Rock 45rpm EP, released in 1957. (Pictured below).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Front and back sleeve of the Jailhouse Rock EP.
Excerpt written on the back of the album cover:
Presley reaches a new peak with "Jailhouse Rock," both from an acting and singing viewpoint. His role calls for a strong, dominant character with plenty of dramatic talent — and Presley's got it. He says himself, "I like this role in 'Jailhouse Rock' most among my films this far, because it's the most dramatic part I've played. And, strangely enough, I felt more at ease in it. I felt able to put myself in the place of the character I was playing and feel his emotions with less difficulty."
I really like the album cover (ya can't go wrong with a picture of Elvis). The EP has 5 songs on it; 'Jailhouse Rock', 'Young and Beautiful', 'I Want To Be Free', 'Don't Leave Me Now' and 'Baby I Don't Care'. I like all of the songs on this EP, but if I had to pick a favourite I think 'Don't Leave Me Now' is one of them, and of course 'Jailhouse Rock' is a classic haha.
The copy that I have is actually an original pressing from 1957! I was pretty excited about that, I love original pressings because it feels like having a little piece of history. My copy is an Australian print, released Dec of 1957. The record itself has a black label and tri-pushout centre which I thought was cool.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side 1 and Side 2 of the Jailhouse Rock EP.
The record itself is a little scuffed looking. I guess it's to be expected, I mean it's over 65 years old. It plays decently though, doesn't have any noticeable skips or anything like that. It’s a bit crackly but tbh I kind of like that sound it feels cozy, so I don’t mind it.
I found this record for $5 at an antique store, I was stoked about it.

January 10, 1970
In the RCA studio on Sunset in Las Vegas the rehearsals began. Ronnie Tutt had been unable to reach an agreement on salary and was replaced by Bob Lanning. James Burton recruited his friend Glen D. Hardin on piano. Cissy Houston too, has departed to be replaced for a time by Ann Williams in The Sweet Inpirations.
Elvis wanted to change the repertoire from his first Vega appearance. So Proud Mary, Polk Salad Annie, Walk A Mile In My Shoes and Sweet Caroline were added to the show, including some songs from his own recently recorded work.
