Last Night In This Universe - Void Silver/SunSpell Fic

[ANGST FIC AHEAD !!!!]

The night was quiet and calm. It was such a contrast between the night Marvin was experiencing. It was a swell of a hurricane of feelings that he locked away in a box to appear as normal as possible.

Today was going to be his last day in this world. Ramesses had found a way to track down the man of void. The nightmare that he had accidentally unleashed in worlds far beyond his own. On one hand, they almost felt selfish enough to pretend like it wasn't his problem. It was those universes thing to deal with for all he knew. But he did know. He knows exactly what the thing is up to, he also knows how he is now a target.

The thing knows him by name and by soul and it is only a matter of time before it gets him. He knows the thing would tear the multiverse apart to reach him and given the things Marvin is unable to look away from, it seems like it's already attempting to do just that.

Marvin has no idea what will happen when the thing will reach him, what will become of him or what it will do to him. But he knows one thing and one thing only:

Sunday can not be there to see it happen.

The night was quiet and still. And Marvin lay in peaceful bliss- a sleeping Sunday curled up into his chest as he sat and thought and recorded this moment using his mask. Oh if only this moment could last a lifetime, maybe Marvin could trick himself into believing it can. Believing that he's not about to destroy the one good thing he has left.

He knows Sunday would understand. Sunday has been in the know about what The Magic Circle has been up to and a general idea of the thing that has become Marvin's tormentor. But that doesn't mean Sunday would not still be absolutely crushed by it.

Sunday had only just gotten Marvin. After years of believing it to be one sided, after years of platonic kisses and secret hand holding and swearing they were just friends despite their true earnest feelings- the pair had finally been able to call each other theirs. The revelation came with many tears and many kisses.

Marvin tries to enjoy the moment, to love Sunday as much as he can before he ruins this forever. It hurts so much to know what he has to do. But he can't cry or say a thing. He can't have Sunday trying to convince him to stay- he knows he can't, and that's what hurts so much-

There is nothing more Marvin wants than for Sunday to convince him to stay, that the cost of the universe is worth them sharing just a few moments more together. But he doesn't want to risk the terrible fate that would be bestowed to Sunday if that thing caught up with him.

From what he's seen the thing favours to tear the life of its victims apart before actually getting to the victim themselves, including killing and tearing apart the victims loved ones just to dance in their misery. Marvin can't even begin to describe how much he cannot let that happen to Sunday.

Marvin's phone lights up with a message. He knows what it is. He doesn't want to look. A single tear silently falls down his face as he slowly climbs out of bed.

“Portals ready. Meet me in 10. This is your only chance so don't be late -R”

He throws on his cape and mask, grabbing a bag from the wardrobe that he had already packed with his spell books, clothes and essentials. Marvin walked back to Sunday- who was still sleeping soundly in their bed, and kissed him gently on the cheek.

Marvin left a note on the bedside table. Explaining and apologising as much as he could muster. Giving Higgins one last scratch before he left his cosy bookshop for good.

Marvin tried not to look back. It hurt but he didn't. He knows it'll hurt more if he does.

The night was quiet and heavy. Marvin walks alone in the London night. It was far too quiet. Marvin was left alone with his thoughts as he walked. He couldn't help but imagine the pain on Sunday's face when they read the note.

Marvin finds Ramesses fairly quickly and easily, due to the large and brightly glowing portal that stood not ten feet behind him. It won't be long before it would close for good and Marvin would never get a chance like this again.

“Took you long enough kid- are you ready?”

Ramesses said, with an old comfort layered behind that tough love the foundations of their mentorship had been built upon. There was glint in his visible eye that could have been read as sorrow.

“No, but I've not really got a choice do I?” Marvin responded walking closer to the portal- it was unimaginably bright. Marvin looked back at their old mentor.

“Ramesses- for what it's worth-” they took a staggered breath- “thank you I- thank you”

Ramesses nodded. He was clearly trying to stay strong. Maybe for Marvin's sake or maybe for the sake of his own image, but he did nonetheless.

“Good luck out there kid. I know you'll do great”

Marvin nodded back. And he turned to the portal. He wants nothing more than for Sunday to run up to him, to drag him back crying and screaming for him to stay. Marvin wants nothing more than to turn away from the portal.

He knows he can't. And Sunday is not coming. So he takes a step forward.

“Ramesses- look out for Sunday and Higgins for me- please” Marvin said, still keeping his gaze on the blinding portal.

“Of course- goodbye Marvin”

Sunday isn't coming. And the night is quiet.

“Bye Ramesses”

Marvin steps through the portal. And just like that he's saved his universe- and just like that he's ruined the one thing in his life.
