A few notes on operators. Basically an AU where operators were made to help out with more difficult and precise tasks. Moss here was made for difficult repairs and maintenance in tight and difficult to reach places, specifically on superstructures, though they did work on other mechanical stuff as well, such as gates and shelters.
Now if anyone is interested in this, they are completely free to make, and very customizeable. Have fun!

Where Seas Meet Skies: REiterators!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iterator of the Ascending Spire, WSMS longed to leave his puppet body. With the help of the Collector, he began the REiterator project, successfully transferring iterators out of their puppets and into fully independent, organic beings. This activity was certainly illegal, but widely popular, and many iterators reached out to WSMS for a chance at rebirth.
Lore ramble under cut!
The REiterator avatars are created by reverse engineering Ancient DNA, and scavenger, and even grand matron, as those are the closest "cousins" to the iterators. Then their consciousness is applied to the avatar and synced with their superstructure.
Tumblr media
To do this, one must submit a system-wide scan and then send it via pearl—or several pearls, since large files like that can't afford to be compressed. As interest in the REiterator project grew, the envoy system was developed: a network of messenger scugs tasked with delivering system scans. These envoys have become an important part of the new culture, and the Ascending Spire has plenty of amenities for the little travelers!
Upon awakening, a reiterator can choose to shut down their old superstructure, or integrate themselves with it using a wireless syncing process that allows them to essentially be in two places at once. The latter option is more comfortable for most, given that iterators are used to being an all-encompassing being beyond the extent of their puppet. Those who choose to shut themselves down may do so due to degrading hardware or a simple desire to completely leave that life behind. These individuals may even change their names.
Most reiterators use bionic enhancements in some way, such as syncing with either their old selves or the Ascending Spire. These cybernetics also let them access data pearls as they normally would.
Some individuals adopt iterator-like masks, resembling their old faces, as part of these cybernetics rather than building them in. Some go as far as to take apart their old dead puppet.
The Ascending Spire now serves as home to this underground salvation, and WSMS is thankful to have citizens again.

slugcat'd my sona!
i made her into a completely different variant that stores extra nutrients in the little colorful orbs! the orbs can pop off of her and are usually then shared with fellow slugcats.
the species is very kind and willing to share by nature, the orbs are filled with a nectar like substance that usually tastes sweet. the taste varies depending on their diet, and so does the colors.

Is 10K a Silverist or anti Silverist?
10K: A what?
Tumblr media
((10K is currently unaware of the whole sliver of straw situation. However if they had been involved they would be anti-sliverist. They're very firm in their belief that a solution can be found without dying, though that's probably because they've literally been unconscious for most of their time alive.)

Finally got around to finishing this houugh... it was a lot of work but I really like the end result!! Naturally, I'll try my best to list some of the thoughts I have in mind for these guys below. Long post ahead!
These lizards are intended to be ALMOST fully arthropod-like but due to my lack of understanding of bug anatomy and creative liberties, they are in that gray spec bio area so don't take any inconsistencies too seriously (or rather, fuck logic, and accept them how I describe them regardless)
Inspirations: - my lesser detailed lizard design - my friend's slugcats - wasps for the head contours, various insects for the exoskeleton guidelines, caterpillars, various stylistic slugcats across the #rainworld tag - the burning need for something more detailed and cool in my drawing vocabulary
The actual meat of the post; extra facts: - Lizards are related to slugcats (in my au, if you wanna call it that?) or at least the very early version of them. This idea is borrowed from this post and in my au, lizards evolve a similar tail to a slugcat's to aid in propelling themselves through tight spaces, acting as a 5th limb. - Similar to my old vulture post, lizards share a similar lifecycle. The majority of the larval stage is spent underground and in tight spots, far from their main predator. Lizard larva will undergo pupation similar to how beetles do, leaving behind broken cavities in pipes where carnivorous plants favor to take root. Additionally to the vulture's terrible parental drive, they often mistake their own larva for lizard hatchlings. - A lizard's skin is leathery and retains moisture for quite a while. Some lizards have a thicker layered mantle than others, allowing them to take punctures to the abdomen and still recover. - Not pictured, but will be described, are a few outliers to the standard lizard body plan. Caramels have muscular hind legs akin to a grasshopper but this means their legs cannot slot together and thus they have a wider leg splay than other species. Eels and salamanders are not lizards but lizard mimics. Yellow lizards' antennae attach to a hump on the snout rather than the rear of the head as seen here. Cyan lizards' mantles are more square shaped due to their leap drums on either side of their bodies and have a 3rd mantle that runs the length of their tail and caps the tailtip. - Cyan lizard's organs are called leap drums and act similarly to our lungs. They are a ring of muscle which contracts and acts as a spring loaded mechanism to propel the creature via combustion through a mysterious chemical process. Because the color of debris left behind during a leap share the same color as the lizard, perhaps they are discarded scales, formerly in place to protect the cavities housing the explosion. - They have similar organs to vertebrates within their abdomen, probably surrounded by cartilage. (not that important, I haven't thought that much about this) - (More may be added later as I remember)

The Tundra Era
In the beginning of the world, there was nothing but cold tundra. Unlike most planets who have a warm magma filled core, the planet of rainworld has a cold void fluid core, with the only natural heat coming from the sun. The world is a freezing tundra with almost nightly blizzards, but not without life, as some creatures have adapted to its freezing ways.
Tumblr media
The Ancients Era
Soon, an intelligent species forms form the barren wastelands, known simply as the ancients. The ancients in their form resembled closely to aquatic fishes and insects of our world. They too adapted to their frozen environment, living in caves and underwater homes at first, and then building their own homes and citadels. At this time, they were unaware of their eternal life.
Tumblr media
The Karmic Era
The great problem has now been made aware to the ancients, and thus the karmic religion is born. At this time only the first five karma symbols are made known to the ancients, and they do everything in their power to rid themselves of these urges, with very limiting success. It’s around this time that the ancients don their signature masks and adorned clothing as well.
Tumblr media
Void Fluid Discovery
While drilling and constructing a train system, the ancients come across stranger structures, indicating a civilization before them. Engineers are soon replaced with paleontologists to dig and study these stranger remnants. As they continue to dig, some start having strange dreams and hallucinations of moving stars, strange worms, an empty void, until they come across the depths, and subsequently the void fluid is discovered
Tumblr media
Void Fluid Revolution
With the introduction of the void fluid, ancient society flourishes, now they have a proper way to die. Time is spent expanding the depths, building statues and making sacrifices to the void. Their technology also expands exponentially, now able to make large factories and farms to provide for themselves. The next several karma symbols are also made known to the ancients. However echos are soon discovered in the world, fearful that the void may not have been the perfect solution they were looking for, the ancients seek another solution. This leads to the creation of the iterator, whose purpose is to find a solution to the great problem without the void. During this time, a new boom in the ancients is found, more iterators are made because of their many uses. During this time purposed creatures are brought to life to assist the ancients and iterators. It is also known during this time, that the ancients created the shelters and pathways, a place for creatures to rest in and navigate across the world that had become habituated with urban development. The world is now warmer, with the memories of a cold tundra seeming more like a dream than anything. However despite all the good times, the void is not stupid, and it certainly is displeased that the ancients who once worshipped it were now seeking another solution
Tumblr media
The Mass Ascension Event
The great ascension was an interesting, and frightening time. Iterators noticed how more and more ancients were going to ascend, and noted how their reasonings were barely understandable. Other ancients noted how the ones going to ascend seemed almost robotic. The more frightening thing, ancients who previously had no desire in ascension, would find themselves seeking, almost yearning it, the next cycle. More and more ancients were going to ascend, and less were born. The remaining ancients during the last few years of their kind were terrified, it seemed as though every one of their kind was infected with an invisible ailment forcing them to ascend, wether they were ready or not. Some stuck by the iterators begging them to prevent them from leaving to ascend. Others traveled outside of the iterators can, to the corners of the world away from any depths entrances. Any efforts were for naught however, as the remaining ancients went to ascend as well, leaving none behind.
Tumblr media
Post Ancient Era
Many years passed after the ancients disappeared, and the world had adapted to the structures that they had left behind. The animals were now used to the unnatural shelters and pathways that the ancients had originally constructed for them, and the iterators who were once tasked with finding a solution to the great problem now mostly did their own thing, including helping lesser creatures on their way to ascension. The slugcat campaigns also take place in this era.
Tumblr media
Shelter Destruction
Not everything lasts forever, and this includes the ancients’ constructions. The iterators collapse due to entropy, the world losing its main heat source and being plunged into an icey torrent of blizzards. The shelters that the ancients once made to shield creatures from precipitation, also fell from the constant blizzards and entropy, leaving the creatures who once depended on them alone to brave the elements. A mass extinction follows these events, causing creature, both inorganic and natural, to die out or seek ascension to escape their miserable circumstance.
Tumblr media
Everything Must Go
Soon, the void itself releases from its previous underground home, to pull the remaining memories and remnants of this civilization down to the depths and rubicon.
Tumblr media
The Tundra Era again
Thus, with the remainder of the ancients gone, the world is left an endless tundra once more, but soon life will start to evolve to this cold wasteland, and soon, an intelligent species of aquatic descent will walk upon the ground, and perhaps, like the civilization before them, seek a way out of this world

Rain World OC: single dad, gmo kids
Tumblr media
I NEEDED to get the ideas out of my head so this is Where Seas Meet Skies, an iterator who desired to leave his can and thus created modified clones of themself by reverse engineering Ancient DNA, which is used as a base for all iterators [as Ancients were the only known sapient species].
These purely organic clones are REiterations, and as is the nature of cloning, they're more like his kids than true vessels. More about REiterations below ⬇️
Tumblr media
REiterations have some innate connection to their iterator, much like an overseer, even being able to interact with true overseers. Special equipment helps enhance this for travel beyond the can and its facility.
Not that WSMS would ever let his kids that far out, risking another iterator seeing them. Their can is built out in the open ocean, directly over a fault leaking void fluid. WSMS has effectively isolated themself from his own kind, not only for his children, but for his refusal of The Great Problem at all. He resents the idea, its perpetrators, and its effects.
Unlike most iterators though, he holds a warmer view towards the Ancients, finding other iterators hypocritical in their hatred. He hates them for a different reason.

did one of those rainworld art challenges! also geometric style because i cannot stay consistent with anything reasons below the cut
Favorite campaign: Rivulet this was my favorite because imo it had the least backtracking of any of the campaigns which made it much more fun :) plus it managed to make enjoyable water levels which is a miracle because water is the worst thing in rainworld Favorite slugcat: Spearmaster spearmaster is my favorite for a few reasons,,, they're super body horror creature, purple (best color), are one of the iterator 'pet' scugs, and their campaign has so much lore and story for me to chew on Hardest campaign: Arti/Spearmaster past garbage wastes
Favorite lizard: Yellow/Orange i love their little floppy horn ear things :) Free space!!: REM! one of my many iterator ocs still a bit indecisive on that name tho Favorite iterator: NSH i cant even actually put into words why i just love him :) Favorite item: Singularity bomb / egg dont really have a favorite item but these are pretty fun to nuke things with so i suppose?? Favorite species: Yeeks they're not a nuisence like squidcadas, are more useful, and they make rubber duck noises??? worst part about them is that they hate the physics engine and will find any excuse to clip through the floor
Favorite region: Outer Expanse i really like how pretty this area is! very pretty and fun to draw + slugpups :)

The Rainworld community has a very poor balance between canonical-leaning interpretations and fanon interpretations and its not great... Especially not because of the fighting it creates.
The problem with RW's story is that we as the player are biased to the player character. There is a reason people often justify what Artificer does, we play as them and their gameplay is fun and dynamic and we like their story and feel their rage. From a game standpoint this is amazing! But it creates problems in fandom with some people headcanoning Artificer and twirling them around in their brain and others going "That is a Bombcat who has literally committed atrocities against an intelligent species"
Which... both these ideas are good in their own ways. I love fanon Artificer! I love parental badass figures! And I'm really not ashamed of that fact, I think fanon Artificer can be very cool. However, I also love the canon Artificer and all that their story represents. It is gruesome and downright disgusting.
These are both ideas that DESERVE to be explored. However, fighting in the fandom often leads to the demonization of both of these. Which sucks! Either you like fanon arti and hate canon arti or you like canon arti and hate fanon arti... Its not WRONG but its not good either.
We as a fandom need to learn to accept both FANON and CANON as applicable in certain circumstances. Obviously there are some that are simply wrong or straight up headcanons, but there are ideas we as a fandom should get to explore even though the canon does not.
RW is a limited story with amazing characters. This isn't a bad thing, but we want to see all the shit we can do with these little guys. There is so much to explore and to be done with this game, and I hope we can grow to further respect peoples interpretations and exploration of these dynamics, even if it doesnt allign strikingly with Canon.
