zadr/zadf fic recs?

Ooo, there are so many terrific ones, but to keep things (relatively) brief, here's a selection of four that hit different sweet spots for me recently:

Between the Stars (andystarr): OK, first, I hope it’s not “cheating” for me to top the list with a fandom superstar, but DAMN. Andystarr’s works are all absolutely delicious, but this one in particular has me weak. If you’re looking for top-shelf prose, a tight and engaging plot, and expertly-crafted psychological portraits against a backdrop of drama and adventure in space, this is the fic to jump into. It’s just revving up, and it promises the slowest of burns and the deepest of angst, but andystarr is one of those authors you can fully trust to deliver a meaningful and satisfying conclusion. Plus, it comes with TATR, too. That’s like finding an extra order of fries in your drive-thru order. Just brightens your whole day, ya know? ANYWAY. Read the tags and notes, but I can’t recommend this one highly enough.

Downhill (Rainbowraptor): You want “Mopiness of Doom” a decade later with a side of heavy angst? Coming right up! This is definitely a “start of something” fic with a twist that rattled my heart around in my ribcage as if it were a die in a Yahtzee cup. Very sad. Very stressful. Very good. It’s a complete stand-alone that you can read on your lunch break, but it has the potential for future stories too... Just sayin’. 

Quantum Entanglement (StarlitVesper): Another fandom heavy-hitter, but I’d be remiss not to include my favorite spice-importer, if you catch my drift... Ahem. This trauma-bonding friends-to-lovers story is just getting started, but I see good things ahead. Also unhealthy and complicated things, but also healing? Y’all, I don’t know, but I’m here for whatever comes next. I just want my lads to be OK. And if spicy things happen along the way, I’m not complaining.

Just a Couple of Monsters (MelodyoftheVoid): Short and sweet friendship stuff. I’m such a sucker for the boys helping and comforting each other. Also, Zim being competent? MARVELOUS. Take to the stars, boys. You deserve ‘em.

WHELP. I prattled on more than I meant to, but these are just a few of the tasty ZADF and ZADR fics that I’ve placed on a metaphorical shelf so I can look at them and go, “Aw, that’s real nice” from time to time. Bon appetit!
