Okay, also, I really love all the incredible friendship dynamics between the four "besties." They are clearly not all into the same things, but they seem genuinely supportive of and excited about each other's interests/talents. So often in shows set in high school, they have characters scoff at/disparage their friend's interests that don't align with theirs and use it as a source of conflict. This isn't done at all in the show & I love it. Instead it's like- Spoon immediately recognizing Mickey's love of basketball and hyping him up about it, Ema showing up for Spoon's audition & supporting him when he's panicking, Spoon being amazed & excited & even stepping back and giving Ema the spotlight when she joins in (and being so excited about her being cast in the lead role), Ema coming to Mickey's basketball tryouts to cheer for him (Spoon, too, but he seems to have an official role that required him to be there, but Ema seems to have shown up just for Mickey), Rachel & Spoon & Ema all immediately being excited to go to Mickey's basketball party, Ema & Spoon being so enthusiastic about Rachel's cheer routine, Spoon wanting to learn some of the dance & Rachel teaching him. I just love a supportive friend group! Mickey's a bit less involved in his friend's extra-curricular life (though I want to recognize that he's very supportive/protective of them in other ways), mostly because he's so embroiled in the mystery plot that it takes up a lot of his screen time, but I really hope we get a chance to see him more in this capacity in a possible (please) season 2.

ah yeah because everybody suspects Rachel the cheerleader to be dating Mickey the basketball player in their little besties squad, everyone's gossiping about it 'did you hear about Rachel and Mickey? They're totally a thing' only for the pair of them to be totally unbothered, waiting for the perfect moment to reveal Rachel's dating Ema and Mickey's dating Spoon

I can't stop thinking about how refreshing Rachel's character is. Like it is so common for her stereotype (popular, beautiful, cheerleader) to be portrayed as ditzy (mostly older media) or b*tchy (newer media). And don't get me wrong, I can enjoy a popular, unapologetic mean girl, but the arrogant/sassy cheerleader trope has absolutely been done to death in tv in the past 15 years. I just adore that Rachel is genuinely a great human being. She comes off as that kinda ditzy/shallow stereotype when you first meet her in episode 1, but she shows so much depth, strength, and compassion through the rest of the season & I love that she's part of the main group by the end.
