Pari Abasalti-Mirhashem (@pariabasalti) born March 1935 always had a passion for writing. In Iran she participated in school’s literary programs and a contest in high school which required writing and drawing an essay titled ”The Ideal World. For this contest she drew and wrote about her journey where she would fly to Michigan, study medicine, go back to Iran, practice medicine in the underprivileged rural areas in pursuit of service to people. She did win that contest; her essay and drawing was published in the only magazine exclusively for students in Iran with her picture on the cover. While still in high school, among 2,500 participants Pari was the only girl along with 6 boys who were chosen from Iran for a contest organized by UN for students worldwide to write an essay titled “The World We Want”. She continued her writing passion throughout High School by producing the school’s newspaper and pursued her dream of becoming a physician by taking the entrance test for the entry to medical school. However, the passion for writing and literature was stronger and she ended up pursuing a BA in liberal Arts from College of Literature of University of Tehran followed by a masters degree in Psychology and Education. Her ease of conversation, interest in other people’s opinion, and gathering information accessible to women in Iran at the time, helped open other doors!! 60 years ago “Ette-laat” Newspaper began the publication of the first women’s magazine called “Ette-laat e Ba-no-von”. On its first issue, they asked aspiring writers to submit a writing sample for an opportunity to join the staff. Pari Abasalti wrote a report about her college and upon its submission won the heart of the Editor!! Pari was asked to join the magazine as a reporter and it was working in that magazine which changed her life personally, socially, and publicly. . For her wedding dress, Farah returned to France and sought out Yves Saint Laurent, then the designer for Dior. (The friendship between the empress and the fashion icon would last the rest of Saint Laurent's life.) The dress itself featured a scoop neck, with a modest coat to go over top. The whole affair was embroidered with Persian motifs depicted in sequins, imitation pearls, and silver thread. The train had a distinctive fur-lined hem; unseen, blue was sewn in to some of the hems as a sort of a good luck charm for the birth of a boy. Before her marriage to the Shah in 1959, the highest women at court was Reza’s twin sister, Princess Ashraf. Princess Ashraf came to see Farah as a rival. It was the rivalry with Princess Ashraf that led Farah to press her husband into reducing her influence at the Court. Farah’s significance was exemplified by her part in the 1967 Coronation Ceremonies, where she was crowned as the first shahbanu (empress) of modern Iran. It was again confirmed when the Shah named her as the official regent should he die or be incapacitated before the Crown Prince's 21st birthday. The naming of a woman as regent was highly unusual for a Middle Eastern or Muslim monarchy.⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The great wealth generated by Iran's oil encouraged a sense of Iranian nationalism at the Imperial Court. The Empress Farah recalled of her days as a university student in 1950s France about being asked where she was from: “When I told them Iran ... the Europeans would recoil in horror as if Iranians were barbarians and loathsome. در نسخه جدید ووگ عربی مصاحبه‌ای با اعلیحضرت شهبانو فرح پهلوی ترتیب داده شده بمناسبت رونمایی جدیدترین کتاب ایشان باعنوان "ایران مدرن - شهبانوی هنر" که تقریبن یک ماه از انتشارش می‌گذرد. موزه هنرهای معاصر؛ بذری که فرح پهلوی 'با عشق کاشت' چهل سال بعد از انقلابی که سرنوشت این موزه را عوض کرد و بسیاری از آثار خریداری شده برای آن را، از پیکاسو گرفته تا اندی وارهال، روانه انبارهای این موزه کرد، هزاران کیلومتر دورتر از آن، بار دیگر گنجینه نهفته در این موزه خبرساز شده است: کتابی قطور منتشر شده از آثار موجود در این موزه و قصه های دور و برش. نام کتاب را با نام اصلی‌ترین پشتیبانش، شهبانو فرح پهلوی، گره زده‌اند: ایران مدرن، ملکه هنر. در گنجینه دائمی موزه، بیش از سه هزار اثر ارزشمند از نخبگان هنرهای تجسمی نگهداری می شود که نزدیک به چهارصد اثر، ارزش های استثنائی دارند. از جمله آثار مهم موزه می توان به جاکومتی، ولویت، اندی وارهول، پولاک، ارنست، پولاک، لویت و پیکاسو اشاره کرد. میانگین قیمت برخی از این آثار هنری تا پنج میلیارد دلار هم قیمت گذاری شده، در صورتی که با قیمت بسیار پایین تر برای موزه خریداری شده اند. شهبانو فرح، درباره ایده پیدایش موزه می‌گوید: ما نمی‌توانستیم همه آثار مهم هنر ایران را که در موزه ها یا کلکیسیون های بین المللی نگهداری می‌شدند برای ایران بخریم اما تصمیم گرفتیم آثار هنر مدرن و برخی آثار کلاسیک هنر بین‌المللی را برای موزه بگیریم. جلد کتاب تازه، پرتره‌ایست از فرح پهلوی که اندی وارهال، پدر هنر پاپ، در سفرش به ایران از او ساخته و پرداخته است. @shahbanou_farah_pahlavi One of my favorite stories of the new issue.
