As @keflecallender pointed out, this perspective here looking toward the skyway in back of photo while the police car was in the foreground with Prince dancing in front of it or, at other times in the video, he was on a loading dock on left. Album Review: Prince 00′s Reissues

Since the 2016 passing of Prince, there have been various compilations, tributes and even some posthumous releases (Piano and a Microphone 1983 was my #4 Reissue Album of 2018). Last year, The Prince Estate and Legacy Recordings announced a definitive Prince catalog project and the first round of physical releases were released by Legacy this week: Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth are all being reissued on CD and for the first time ever on vinyl (limited edition purple vinyl no less)! As a longtime Prince fan, it is very exciting to review this underrated era of Prince albums from the 00s.

Musicology (2004)

Prince’s zenith was the 1980s! Hands down! The 90s was a mixed era for him (the name change to a symbol, legal battles with his label, yada yada yada). But the 00s saw a huge comeback. In 2004, he went on a big-selling concert tour, was on magazine covers and he performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame where he was inducted. When this album was released, there was a first-of-its-kind deal where concertgoers who bought tickets got the CD for free, which in turn made it skyrocket up the charts. In terms of Princeology, 2004 will be looked at as a major comeback for Prince with that tour and this album. I picked up the album that year. It was his first album I bought in a while and liked some tracks but overall I kinda lost interest over time, maybe it was just what I was listening to at the time. When I was doing one of my purges, I sold it to a used record store and I’ve since regretted it. But I digress. When I got the chance to listen to this reissue, I have to say this is a far better album than I gave it credit for. The musicianship is so strong, not just from Prince but from all the players, including frequent Prince collaborators like Candy Dulfer and Maceo Parker. After a string of underwhelming albums, this was a return to form for Prince.

3121 (2006)

This 2006 follow-up album become his first #1 since 1989′s Batman soundtrack and his first ever album to debut at #1. Inspired by Willy Wonka, there were winning tickets hidden in select albums to fly fans to a private Prince concert in L.A. I remembered Prince’s smoking performance on SNL about a month or 2 before the album was released, but the album itself I didn’t pick up for one reason or another and only listened to online a few times. This album was Prince heavy into his Santana influence and getting funkier and even a little psychedelic. Not as good as Musicology, but still maintaining that momentum.

Planet Earth (2007)

In early 2007 Prince gave an epic performance at the Super Bowl Half-Time Show (its considered by many to be the best ever) and a few months later he released a new album that featured members of both New Power Generation and The Revolution (welcome back Wendy and Lisa!). This is a serious House Party album. It reminded me a lot of 70s Parliament Funkadelic albums, where the listener is having a good time BECAUSE the band is having a lot of fun playing! I hope fans get this on vinyl so they can appreciate the reflector album cover, which you can’t appreciate on streaming or even on CD.

Ofrenda dia de los Muertos: Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento presents for you "Ofrenda dia de los Muertos" at the Crest Theatre. This journey through various regions of Mexico unveils the mysticism of Dia de los Muertos. This live on stage dance performance presents a firsthand tour of the festivals that are Dia de los Muertos. Accompanied by traditional music group Córima. 8PM. $11-$26.

DNN: Special Spooky Show: In this dramatic comedy, the Rush Hour News team delivers hard-hitting news from across the universe. But! Will a terrorist mastermind derail our protagonists? Come early (9:15pm) for a pre-show treat: a sample of some of the other programming offered by Dystopian Media Networks (DMN) . At theSacramento Comedy Spot. 10:30pm. HOLY FXXK: Requiem and Shaun Slaughter present the resurrection of the Friday sweat-fest dance party at Holy Diver (erstwhile FXXK Fridays at ToHo, for the folks who’ve been around a minute). 21+ 10PM-140AM. Free w/RSVP.

Oak Park Farmers Market: This week, enjoy the Harvest Festival Celebration and wind down the season at OP Farmers Market with the usual vendors, cooking demonstrations, music + more! 830AM-1PM.

8th Annual Panteon de Sacramento: The Panteón de Sacramento (Sacramento's Cemetery) is an urban re-creation of Día de los Muertos that takes place in small village cemeteries throughout Mexico. Over 60 ofrendas (memorials) made by families and organizations, 40 vendors, food, sugar skulls and mask making and live programming! In the parking lot of the Sacramento Native American Health Center. 10AM Saturday and Sunday. Free.

Some near me at times were nearly sobbing while transfixed by the way he captivated us through that space & time. He had us in the palm of his hands but guided us through his musical history like no other.
