I just randomly wanted to say that I’m so happy for James McCartney (for Sean as well of course, but I feel like it might mean a little more to James) that Primrose Hill gets so much attention. Today I was asked about the song by three different people who don’t keep up with Bealtes stuff at all and just know I do, so I think that really means something ☺️

Song Review: James McCartney - “Primrose Hill”

There’s a new Lennon-McCartney songwriting team on the scene.

And “Primrose Hill,” a Sean Ono Lennon/James McCartney composition recorded by McCartney, was clearly inspired by their respective fathers’ “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane.”

Ethereal and backward-looking toward youth, the song is ethereal in a Beatlesque way with a partially synthetic rhythm track plucked from the 1990s and some programmed strings for good measure.

I’ll always remember Primrose Hill, McCartney sings on the chorus.

Lennon doesn’t play on the track but father Paul drops in on guitar, harmonium and shaker. And while “Primrose Hill” ain’t the Lennon-McCartney of yore, this new Sons Of … effort suggests they might have something worth exploring a little further.

Ruth Negga in World War Z (2013).

I spotted Ruth Negga once, sitting outside at a pub in Primrose Hill. She went inside. I went in and ordered a pint, then sat down and glanced over at her furtively. She knew what I was doing and she confirmed for me who she was by loudly saying ‘I’m Ruth’ to a child she was with. True story.

I might add that it was nighttime and there was very little street light when I spotted her, but I recognised her immediately. How? Because I’m autistic and I have an enhanced ability to recognise faces. I’m not joking. Being me really sucks most of the time, but occasionally there are moments when it’s quite fun.
