#prime and c137 are very much like this

Text
rick becomes super into multiversal travel after prime introduces him to it, very hyperfocused on it and the opportunities it presents (like how the gotron episode establishes that rick can get carried away unless someone reels him in). diane might initially be supportive of this but as rick's appearances around the house become more shoddy, she gets fed up and they separate. after a much more complex deterioration of their relationship obviously rick considers this a win at the time, since he's now free to dick around and do whatever he wants, essentially adopts prime's life philosophy and hangs around him. him and prime would eventually have some sort of falling out, which leaves rick extremely bitter and annoyed. he ends up spending most of his life alone, still living by his pop nihilistic ideals because he thinks this is what he wants. eventually he'd still end up squatting in prime's dimension and realizes that he actually Prefers this family life. his infatuation with prime could develop into resentment when he realizes that he essentially robbed rick of a comfortable, idealistic life

s7e5 Unmortricken (HUGE SPOILERS)
HOLY. SHIT. i did not expect this at all and was so fucking excited!! we've all been waiting for this for a looong time, both the rick prime and the evil morty returns! and they gave it to us in one episode!
there is soooo much to unpack in this episode, but i'm dumping all my initial thoughts into this post. i feel like every scene during this episode my mind was turning so fast. this episode broke me and healed me, idek. i just need to take a minute and stare at the wall in silence for a while. my brain is just a mantra of god i fucking love this show so fucking much.
evil morty not only being smarter than c137, but prime is so fucking cool. definitely hoping we see more of him in the future, especially with how he downloaded the schematics of prime's brain. his plotline is definitely not completely finished. (especially 'the rick project'? very interested in that tbh)
Tumblr media
needless to say, c137 and prime's (and evil morty's) fight was fucking awesome and well-done. especially the very last when rick gets to just beat him to death, thanks to evil morty. also, we see a rick’s ego get him once again with the mindset of ‘a morty could never outsmart/get me’, and boom.
i loved how it ended simply like that, no gadgets, just punching the shit out of him until he dies while prime keeps saying things he thinks will cut deep. prime telling c137 that nothing he has now actually belongs to him, AGH! no words. just thinking about how hard that must've been for rick to assimilate into the family, so fucking painful.
Tumblr media
learning that prime not only killed rick c137's diane, but ALL dianes across all the infinite realities makes a lot of things come together and make sense. basically, prime threw a massive fit over some rick's not wanting to drop everything to join him in his universe-hopping. also prime giving rick shit for his car sounding like diane when he literally modeled his kill bots after her is so fucking ironic lmao
rick prime saying he missed when he was just him and rick, the only two to actually invent portal travel, really interested me. so this means that both prime and c137 are the 'rickest rick'. also c137's diane was not killed with the omega machine, as we saw her and little beth killed with a bomb.
when i first saw that poster with rick and morty covered in 'spaghetti sauce' while morty hugs rick, i knew it was gonna end up being in an episode with blood all over them and i was half-right, since rick's the only one covered in blood when morty hugs him in this episode lol
Tumblr media
another little thing i noticed, they very prominently showed us prime and c137's cybernetic wiring tangling together in a shot during the fight. is this something that'll be relevant later or just like a random shot?
Tumblr media
i think it's possible rick prime isn't dead, maybe left alive by c137 for some reason we don't know yet. we don't necessarily see prime die only c137 come out covered in blood and imply that prime's gone. (i noticed tear tracks on in the blood on rick's face and thought i was tripping at first but he was crying, shattering my heart over here).
if it was truly that simple and rick prime is truly gone forever, rick now has to move on with the rest of his life and figure out who he is without this need for revenge driving him. i'm so nervous to see what happens after this. it'll either free him or destroy him.
Tumblr media
p.s. that post credit scene, which was (in my opinion) showing us what would've happened with rick and birdperson if things were different between them. just a little thing i thought of, and i'm not even a huge birdperson/rick shipper.
p.s.s. and even if it's not about rick/birdperson specifically, it still means rick could've chosen a different path if he'd been able to let go of his need to kill rick prime and get revenge.

Okay, so here's what had happened.
I originally started writing a Rick C137 x Reader fic. The mc is non-binary / gender neutral, and they were gonna be a type of space traveler kinda like Rick. It was gonna be super rad, I still have a hella long outline for the story, and i'm definitely gonna write it eventually.
But then I started brainstorming a one shot-
Again, it was C137 x reader. However, this time, it was just gonna be like a one-off scenario where Rick is absolutely blackout drunk, and he tries to kill the mc. Is it healthy? Probably not- but then neither is Rick. I was really excited about this one shot (and am still writing it- I just thought it needed something and am still workshopping it.)
But THEN.
I read Rickfucker's absolute MASTERPIECE of a story called "10 Ways to Say I Love You" and it was about Young Rick when he was in the freedom fighters x reader. That story was so immaculate. So unbelievably good- it got my head spinning on a Young Rick x reader fic.
(Because bro, who doesn't love Star Wars? That shit slaps. That kind of story would slap- and thus I got REALLY INTO WRITING ONE.)
And now my brain is spinning a beautiful idea of a Rick Prime x reader fic that has something to do with the finite curve (because I just rewatched season 5 ep 10 and It slaps so hard holy shit.)
But now my brain is spinning, bro. Idk which one to work on first. Is it sustainable to work on several at once? Is there one that's more appealing? I'm kinda lost, man, lol.
I'm probably gonna finish the Young Rick one first if I'm being completely honest here. That one is so fun to write. But then again- so is the Rick Prime one. I'm very much scrambled and in need of fanfiction to the point where my brain is writing it, bro.
Help me I am deeply mentally unwell.

not to talk about beth and rick but let me talk about beth and rick
okay so Listen prime dimension beth was Raised and Abandoned by prime rick which leads to something we don’t talk about which is rick prime and his backstory like he Had a diane and a beth so What happened
*also side note something I didn’t like about season 7 is primes whole “you and I are the only two ricks that invented portal tech” because Listen actually this goes back to the main point hold on
okay so when rick fucks up prime dimension he moves to c151 right but he never really mentions how similar prime and c151 Are like is it just identical enough for morty not to notice? more Importantly what about beth’s life? is c151 beth’s upbringing the same as prime beth? actually I bring up a great point why don’t we ever talk about actual c151 rick because Listen beth and ricks relationship as father and daughter is based on them being father and daughter but c137 rick isn’t Really beth’s father But he still bears the weight of the guilt of abandoning her (even tho c137 Never abandoned his beth) but More interestingly is abcs of beth because rick and beth look at the stuff rick made beth as a kid Meaning c151 rick had to have been very similar to c137 and does that mean that prime rick Also made toys? I always think about rick and beth and their father daughter dynamic but we don’t talk about is that it’s an Infinite dynamic
*okay back to the side thought so similarly to how other ricks made the toys and this share a past/timeline with c137 and Listennnnn there are Infinite dimensions, INFINITE like that’s been the Whole point and that means that there are infinite versions of c137 ricks and prime ricks so they Can’t be the only Two ricks to create portal tech do you get it that doesn’t make Sense
*I think season 7 continued to add on to this concept of rick as a god BUT it pressed too much that c137 is The Rick like they’ve said it before and I get it but sometimes I think they ignore the beauty of the infinite and the vital fact that We Are All Meaningless which is so often the Point

Probably my last comment on the episode for now. But that Prime dialogue at the end made my writer side happy. Because not only does it imply that Prime sees them as so close, so similar, so on the same level but also that he does believe Rick would have turned out like him eventually even without his intervention which I've touched on a few times here and in my writing. I mean the guy constantly uses “our” as well “Our wife” etc.
I think I best described it here and here ages ago. But I have always hc that he craved something more than a dead end family life and that's why/how Prime invented portal travel. To know my hc that he was trying to get Rick out of that same inevitably dead end life he escaped (as he felt and perceived it) is at least part plausible, is so nice. He does believe that Rick would have done what he did in the end even if he (Prime) didn't.
“Admit it, you would have been me. I just walked into your garage, before you walked into mine.”
I have always held it pretty close that Prime sees them as the same, right down to calling out how Rick likely feels about things. When it’s not really the case, Rick is different and it makes me think back on the whole irrational attachments thing being seen as “toxic”. And he’s likely changed a lot since then too, even shown by his physical appearance while Prime still looks the same. Maybe it’s a signal of their mentality.
I also have so much love for the people calling out Prime’s cognitive dissonance, big agree kisses all of you one thousand times he will absolutely do things that hurt himself if they hurt the other person (namely c137) more. Which is so self destructive, but very Rick. This probably also links back to him seeing them as the same, like wow if this hurts me it’s sure gonna hurt you because he sees him as sentimental and emotional. Anything to twist the knife deeper right? (it’s all coming together)
This all makes me so happy ngl.

i have so many thoughts about that last rnm episode and none of them are super coherent- it is like 4am after all. but thought i'd just talk about them before going to bed
(putting them all under the cut because as usual this got uh... Long.)
EVIL MORTY WAS FUCKIN GREAT THIS EP. i have nothing specific to say about him but it was nice to have him just. there. being snarky and sarcastic and annoying. love that guy.
NOT TO MENTION THE BIT OF BACKSTORY WE GOT??? GODDAMN. i know on tumblr we all make a case for traumatized teens who get called fucked up for just... Being Teens..... but i also like when they Are actually that fucked up <3 (<- in evil morty's case he Has His Reasons but STILL. also i do mean this affectionately)
they really had prime say "you're me, except, you know, less." while the mortys were onscreen. damn. that definitely won't go anywhere
the scene with the Diane Orb (???) was so funny. she's trying to kill him and he just stares at her and goes "god, i miss that face" what a sentimental little freak <3 i need to study him
something very !!!!!! about rick calling himself a rascal by the way. "rascal" is like an entire gender identity. something special about it
really like the little alliance between evil morty and morty prime. the Heroic Step and the portal closing on him... me too man i've been there
"IF YOU DIE I'M TAKING YOUR STUFF." space cruiser ai and garage ai should be friends LMFAO. SPINOFF SERIES WHEN!!!!!!1
prime calling c137 "wife guy" was really funny to me for some reason. never gonna get that nickname out of my head and i mean that in the BEST way possible
also "i do miss when it was just us!" literally in agony. they keep dropping hints that c137 and prime were actually associated with each other for at least a short period prior to the incident (unless i'm reading it wrong. idk like i said it's late) and i desperately wish we could see more of their dynamic from BEFORE shit hit the fan
i may have laughed a little too hard at prime's pensive emoji-ass expression during the uncle slow bit
THE MOUTH CHAINSAW MADE ME LOSE MY SHIT HONESTLY. just the sort of fucked up thing prime would do of course but it caught me so off guard
i know everyone expected that prime would hold morty hostage or something (at least judging from the fanart) but honestly? i loved the awkward ass conversation he had with "his" morty. "original grandson! this is super weird, obviously!" like yeah good reminder that all ricks are just. Like That (and by that i mean autistic if that wasn't clear LOOL). prime is a terrifying little bastard and he definitely comes off intimidating in his funny little videos but in a real life unscripted scenario he kinda sucks at improvising and he's so real for that
also SHITTY GRANDPA!!!!!!!!!!
morty trying to shake a clearly battered and bloodied rick awake and the fuckin... laser thing (?) falling away to reveal all his guts lying around was. wow.
"we could be like batman and robin!" "eh. i don't need a robin." GET HIS ASS EVIL MORTY!!! also kinda glad they had prime use the word "sidekick". i know it's supposed to show how little regard he has for mortys but it fits the actual power dynamic between ricks and mortys better than the show insisting that they're Partners when they are Clearly not on equal footing in their relationship. my guy that is a 14 year old boy and his abusive 70 year old grandpa!
"schematic booger-aids" who let this man have a child
god the scene where rick just beat the shit out of prime was so fucking cathartic. the way prime's still spewing insults, laughing horribly in rick's face till the very end. FUCK.
also just. "admit it, you would've been me. i just walked into your garage before you walked into mine! and eventually, you did! YOU LIVED IN MY HOUSE!" i have nothing to say about this, my thoughts are too scattered but know that i'm thinking about it. a lot.
"not exactly an alive amount of blood" have i mentioned how much i love evil morty
FUCKING OBSESSED WITH THE PART AT THE END WHICH DIRECTLY MIRRORED MORTY'S DISSOCIATIVE EPISODE AFTER S1E6. THE SAME SONG TOO. GOD. HARMING ME LIKE THIS!!!!!!
(also side note i actually went back to s1e6 to rewatch that scene at the end, and i think it's funny how much Better the show is at gore now. like. just take one look at the shitty blood spatters on the garage walls in the original scene, and then compare it with any of the gore we've seen for the past couple seasons. it's crazy)
okay i think that's all i have to say for now. um. don't know how i'm supposed to recover from an episode like that but sure

hiii r&m anon here again!!! i noticed you mentioned liking season 7, so i was wondering if you had any favorite or least favourite episodes, plotlines, all that jazz. season 7 debrief, if you will. would love to hear your thoughts!
ram anon gracing my inbox once again (always a pleasure)
huge rant below the cut (talking about rick and morty triggers the longwinded newspaper art critic in me sorry)
s7e2 and e4 were the best episodes in my opinion. absurd, darkly funny, overall just so perfect. i was especially excited about s7e2 since the rick/jerry dynamic has intrigued me since episode s3e5. i love that that episode basically just confirmed Rick and Jerry may be foils but are also perfect complements? they can only understand / appreciate each other when they are literally existing in each other's flesh? i try not to wax poetic about ram but this episode was tempting meeeee
and re: e4, i think this show's writing is at its best when the writers come up with a stupid concept and treat it seriously. i love that this episode saw the concept of 'what if corpse spaghetti' through to the end. classic dark comedy, absurd, wacky goodness. lovee it
one thing i do hate about this season (as well as seasons 5 and 6) is the number of callbacks to 'old' rick and morty. s7e3 and s7e8 were some of the worst episodes this season, mostly because they just reused old plotlines and developed them in the least interesting ways possible, imo. did the mid gag from s3e5 really need its own episode? it really did not. i think that this is one of the worst consequences of the show becoming less episodic and more serialized - the writers just endlessly milk the early seasons to recycle into plotlines, one-off gags, whatever. the self-referentiality and meta humor of newer seasons will always, always grind my gears severely.
also, s7e7 was almost unwatchable. it reminded me of s6e2 in all the worst ways - just dedicating an entire episode to a SINGLE movie reference, doubling down on the singular reference as the episode drags on. god that episode sucked. so boring, annoying, unfunny.
i have extremely mixed feelings on s7e5. On the one hand, I'm still annoyed that the backstory from s3e1 is even canon, and Rick is yet another entry in the long tradition of flawed male protagonists turned into a nihilistic depressed shitshow by the death of a wife. it's such a pat trope, imo.
HOWEVER, i really like how this episode developed Rick. I'll always be a fan of ruthlessness and revenge plotlines, so im biased. but i've come to appreciate Rick Prime as a villain, as a testament to how much Rick hates himself -- there's a version of himself out there that would torture himself across the universe by killing off his own loved ones, just to try to prove his own superiority? it's all very mindfucky but im super into it. Rick C137 killing Prime with his fists, all while Prime goads him? it was such a cool scene. i love when the show does selfcest
i also still have mixed feelings on the evil morty and his growing prominence in the series. it was nice when he was just a little treat, but it became clear in s4 the writers were aware of fan expectations for the character. i can't help but wonder if that's shaped the way they're writing him, especially giving him the centralized role in the story of possible-future-final-antagonist? that being said i've always liked evil morty, he's a fun character to watch on screen. although i'm extremely cautious of my enjoyment. he's already starting to feel like a fanfic rip-off of himself a little bit (that one line where he said 'well, they don't call me good morty' was so bizarre. evil morty was the fandom name for him, and the writers adopted it and made it a diegetic epithet for the character???????)
s7e10 was refreshing after a long season of Morty getting sidelined. I love how this one starts with a classic rick and morty set-up (what if *weird thing* in *random place*) but turns it into existential horror? really cool. i don't think it was the most subtle way to do morty character development, but it was interesting enough that i was invested. also, rick pinning morty's picture to the pinboard. so good
overall my reaction to this season is 'we're so back.' it was LEAGUES better than s5-6, which i think are like the ram dark ages. i don't think s7 was the best season yet (as some are suggesting) but I think that this season marks a positive turn for the quality of writing in the show.!!
here's my episode ranking in ( i mostly did this for fun)
E2
E5
E4
E10
E6
E1
E3
E9
E7
E8
Basically, e7 and e8 were irredeemably terrible. e9, e3, and e1 were mid/fine. e6, e10, e4, e5, and e2 were all varying degrees of peak rick and morty.
other mics. thoughts:
i felt like there was a lot of long, no dialogue, sad music montages that felt like references to the famous scene from s4e8? the one from s7e4 comes to mind immediately. but there were another few sprinkled in
s7e3 rick telling a scientologist "worship how you want" ??? he would not say that. who let that slide in the writing room?
the fight scenes and gore were all really well animated!! since s3 the animation has only gotten better and i love the gore
i actually love the new VAs. they're different from roiland, obviously, but i honestly think they're both doing a better job. the performances are more naturalistic, and less grating? i thought the change would weird me out, but it's subtle, and i like it
Rick canonically bad at eating pussy in his youth

ok now what if Rick and Kratos swapped wives. Oh and what about Morty x Atreus
Under the cut cuz its long
Unfortunately we don't really know that much about Diane so idk if I can really compare her to Faye in a meaningful way. They both fit the 'dead wife haunts the narrative' trope but Diane was lampooning the trope until the writers played her straight, while Faye is a very essential part of the plot. She had a purpose in everything that she did, her character arc was revealed after her death, and her goals guided Kratos + Atreus along their path. (Tbh that's why I like the theory that Faye purposefully killed herself in order to fulfill the prophecy; it seems like something that she was strong enough to do.) Diane hasn't had any character arcs, or unrealized goals, which is kind of the point - c137 Rick and Diane were just normal people until Prime showed up.
I think that Faye wouldn't take any of Rick's shit and wouldn't like him very much lol. She wouldn't hesitate to hit him if he got in her way, and Rick would kinda respect her space as long as she didn't keep him from being an immoral multiverse murderer and a drunk.
Diane would probably be very close to Lysandre, Kratos' first wife, in that she would be critical of his bad life choices while encouraging him to achieve more with his incredible power. Kratos is bad at making his own life choices but has enough power to achieve anything he puts his mind to. Someone who guides Kratos to a better path is very critical to him living well.
Morty X Atreus would be cute lol, they'd be adorable together.

@potetosaradas’s first time hc post here made me lose my mind about the relationship progression (in a very good way, amazing HCs and all my love🥰💖 please go read if you haven’t, it’s perfect) and it re-sparked some thoughts that haunted me so this is gonna be a long? post of misc thoughts, buckle up I guess.
I see the relationship starting as a “perceived friends with benefits” thing like let’s just fuck nasty and hot and never speak of actual feelings bc Ricks. That being its fatal flaw in the end. I also think Prime felt a lot stronger about the actual relationship part than he’d ever admit, and thus got hurt by it way more in the end, like absolutely shattered him when Rick wouldn’t join him and they split. Rick is more oblivious to it initially, like of course he started to feel something but would likely suppress it more because he has more to “lose” per se. (His current life, his wife, his daughter etc) So he’d kinda just dip, dodge and ignore certain things until the first time they actually get intimate. It’s an endurance game he lost mentally because he didn’t really 100% want to win in the first place.
I do think it started off as Prime just visiting occasionally and helping with things and surprisingly even getting help with things he was working on, something he’d probably never, if only rarely, got before. Rick is smart, like as smart as him, almost, ego says so haha. But there’s a mutual respect there. On the odd chance they’re not on the same wavelength I think they’d give each other creative ideas the other hadn’t even considered. They genuinely enjoy each other’s company, hell they look forward to it.
But also occasionally he’d be showing Rick other universes, tech etc, this is partly because Rick didn’t suffer or even, you know, die immediately when “going alone” as the second version of the backstory would have us believe, he’s likely been out there before/has some knowledge or understanding of the universe/multiverse? Any human with zero experience or idea of what to expect or protection/weapons of some kind is eating dirt in 5 mins tops, especially if going in blind (which does make me wonder what it was like for Prime? But I don’t think he went in entirely unarmed or unprepared. That’s a thing for another day I guess.)
They spent a lot of time together, as much as they could without it being suspicious. But Prime definitely made the first intimate advance, maybe noticed that Rick was kinda frustrated and wanted in on that. Very in the moment. Manages to convince him maybe even similar to the Beth thing like is it really cheating if it’s with yourself etc and it really doesn’t help he’d know *himself* best sexually, Rick doesn’t stand a chance honestly. Again, slowly losing the mental battle with himself on why he shouldn’t.
Death by a thousand cuts but make it interactions.
From that point on the damage is pretty much done to the core, now it just slowly seeps out like a poison between all the casual sex and fun.
Unfortunately, Ricks have been shown time and time again to be heavily emotion/feeling (especially in the moment) driven creatures so of course they get tangled in between working together and the friends with benefits thing and the gears start to come off the tracks. Arguments, frustration, walking out, failing to apologise bc pride/stubborn nature of Ricks etc. Just failing to talk about how they feel in general. Instead, it’s micro-aggressions and cold shoulders. Why doesn’t the sex and touch hit like it used to? Why are the silences longer? There’s longer gaps between the visits etc.
I think they didn’t exactly have smooth sailing relationship wise, at all, when feelings get involved tensions flare more often especially when Rick didn’t seem 100% happy in his relationship with Diane but likely committed for the love of his daughter. Meanwhile, Prime wants in with someone who is already taken and “burdened” by the same things he so easily cast off himself. Likely believing that C137 would eventually if not already end up feeling the same way, longing for something more than this mundane life. So why stay? Why rot away like that? That they could do whatever, whenever, together.
Maybe it’s one of the first interactions/relationships Prime hadn’t got bored of, he can see the potential and it makes it hurt. Especially accentuated by the torment of holding and being so close to someone you can never truly have.
It’s part of why I think the final talk before the split would have been such an ultimatum/volatile one. Where all the hairline fractures they likely ignored and patched over with sex and careless words over time of their relationship/working together kinda just split and the whole thing shatters.
Ugh the tragedy hit this one sorry everyone. Just had to exorcise my brain a little.
