Not sure how Pogba will do coming back to Juve, Serie A has evolved in the last 6 years. But if we get the Pogba I remember (the one we see for France) it should be enough to comfortably secure top 4. Need Vlahovic to stay healthy and significant refreshing at the back for a title challenge. 🙏🏾

Maybelle Blair "could talk about baseball forever," she likes to say.
That's how the trailblazing 95-year-old wound up on stage at an event in New York City this summer, promoting a new TV series about women's baseball -- and then talking about something she never expected.
"You don't have to hide. I hid for 75, 85 years and this is actually, basically, the first time I've ever come out," Blair said at an event in June, speaking about her sexuality in public for the first time.
The audience burst into supportive applause.
Weeks later, speaking with ABC News, Blair said she hadn't planned on announcing her sexuality that day. But it was fitting, given the setting: The June event at which Blair had spoken was for the upcoming Prime Video series "A League of Their Own”.
Blair herself was a player for the Peoria Redwings in 1948. She and the 650 other female players in the league inspired the film and its TV follow-up.
The TV reboot, on which Blair was a consultant, aims to be even more inclusive than its source material.
Blair proudly noted that the Amazon adaptation, which premieres Friday on Prime Video, builds on the movie's legacy by focusing on Black female players and the racism they faced, as well as the reality of gay athletes balancing their personal hopes with society's homophobia.
"Penny Marshall would have loved to have done this," Blair said, referring to the original film's famed director and executive producer.
"She couldn't have done it in 1992," she added. "It wouldn't have gone over."
For Blair, working on the TV show -- helping the writers and actors tell more truths about the beginning of women's baseball -- may have helped her publicly embrace her own truth.
"I'm so happy I did come out, now that the little girls can have a chance to realize that it's not so bad to be who they are," Blair told ABC. "They should be proud of who they are and be happy that they can be able to live a life of their own. And that's what it's all about: a league of our own, so we need a life of our own."
Still, she admitted, it was hard for her to say it out loud: "gay."
"I was so afraid in my era that if you came out, we couldn't do anything. We couldn't be schoolteachers ... we couldn't even join the service," she said. "We were [considered] the bad guys, which isn't true."

Batman: The Animated Series & The DCAU - Paper Cut-Out Portraits and Profiles
Batman Beyond
Debuting on January 10th, 1999, Batman Beyond was a bold and surprising continuation of Batman’s journey.  Its three seasons act as a concluding bookend to the story first started in Batman: The Animated Series.
Chronologically, the tale begins some forty years after the final installments of The New Batman Adventuress and Justice League Unlimited.  The world has been greatly changed by advanced innovation, much likely derived from alien technology. Neo-Gotham is a cold megalopolis with staggering high rises, flying vehicles and all manner of futuristic invention. Greed, corruption and stark class stratification still grips the city, and the Batman, Gotham’s former protector, has not been seen in decades.
The show introduces Terry McGinnis, a troubled teen in search of answers after his father has been murdered.  Happenstance brings Terry into the life of an aged and reclusive Bruce Wayne.  Retired and estranged from his former friends and allies, Bruce has secluded himself in confines of Wayne Manner.  Yet Terry discovers Bruce’s secret, that he had once been the legendary Dark Knight.  Begrudgingly at first, Bruce ultimately agrees to train Terry in becoming the next Batman.  Terry is eventually able to bring his father’s killer to justice and the streets of Gotham are once more patrolled by a Batman.
The show was met with much skepticism when it first premiered.  It was a significant departure and many (this author included) were reluctant to accept someone else in the role of Batman.  And yet its sleek production, dark themes, super cool character designs and top notch writing came to win over a fiercely loyal audience of fans (this author included).
Kevin Conroy returned to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, with Will Friedle voicing Terry McGinnis.  Cree Summer, Lauren Tom, Sherman Howard, Paul Winfield and Stockard Channing provided the voices for additional characters.

Kaiju Week in Review (February 25-March 2, 2024)
youtube
Brush of the God is finally out in the world, having premiered at the Osaka Asian Film Festival on March 2. Above is the most recent trailer, looking as impressive as ever. A more complete cast list is out too—Yumiko Shaku, Takumi Saitoh, Shiro Sano, and Shinji Higuchi are all in it. Haven't seen any reviews in English yet, but I suspect it's something special.
Tumblr media
Lots of comic news this week, but I'm giving Godzilla: War for Humanity #4 its own section because it continues to be so stellar. In the penultimate issue, Godzilla finally comes face-to-face with Zoospora—with the odds now thoroughly stacked against him. Ends on a great cliffhanger, with emotional catharsis reached but a world-class kaiju still left to beat.
Tumblr media
Every Monsterverse film has an obligatory graphic novel tie-in, and they've never felt more obligatory than Godzilla x Kong: The Hunted. Kong has the A-plot, taking on the Titan Hunter, a mech piloted by the owner of a construction company who (surprise!) lost his family in 2014. It's pretty amusing watching him get high on his own supply fighting second-rate Titans before an unarmed Kong dismantles him, but the character is just too generic. Godzilla's B-plot is just a protracted setup for the film. (I'm keeping my description vague because the identity of his Titan opponent hasn't been revealed in GxK's marketing yet.) I hope this is Brian Buccellato's last time writing Godzilla, as Fight or Flight and the first five issues of Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong weren't much better, but I probably shouldn't be optimistic. Zid's art is unsurprisingly the highlight, though he's sharing space with Dario Formisani and Drew Johnson. Some stunningly bad scaling and weird-looking Godzillas on those pages. Note that the comic is only (officially) available to backers of the hardcover edition on Kickstarter right now; the paperback edition comes out on March 26, a few days before Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.
Titanic Creations has released a cover for their Gorgo Legacy graphic novel (amusingly Approved by the Monster Code Authority). It's written by Mac McClintock and Patrick McEvoy, with the latter also illustrating, and will be 60 pages long. Releases summer 2024, with plans for two more.
Volume 7 of Kaiju Girl Caramelise also released last week, and while I was hoping to share my thoughts on it, none of my local libraries have stocked it yet. So here's a simple reminder that it exists.
Tumblr media
Netflix's Ultraman: Rising now has a poster and a June 14 release date. S.H. FigureArts and Movie Monster Series figures for the film have also been revealed.
youtube
Gameplay videos for Godzilla x Kong: Titan Chasers are starting to show up on YouTube, courtesy of early-access invites going out. Reminds me of that Avengers Alliance game I played for all of a week. And a new month means new Godzilla Battle Line characters; this time it's GMK King Ghidorah and a Biollante variant. They're also overhauling All-Star Battle Mode later this month, letting you chose 50 units to deploy against the CPU (so less underleveled four-stars and other chaff ruining your runs).

Sports Fic
I don't celebrate Superbowl Sunday, but still, here are stories inspired by sports:
Sports featured more or less prominently!
Completed; Summaries from AO3
Baseball
you, just like heaven by theworldunseen
Jaime is an All Star pitcher on the King's Landing Crowns, and Brienne is the girl he gives free tickets to and sleeps with sometimes. That's it, she tells herself. And yet.
With All Your Faults by sea_spirit
In 1943, small-town slugger Brienne Tarth is recruited to play for Tywin Lannister’s newest business venture: the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League. There, she meets Jaime, a maimed former Major League pitcher who’s been talked into managing one of his father’s teams. She can't stand her arrogant coach, and he is definitely not interested in his annoyingly principled star player. They don't like each other at all, really...until they do.
Loosely inspired by "A League of Their Own," with slightly less baseball and lots more love story.
Diamond in the Rough by cardinalgirl75
All Brienne Tarth's ever wanted to do was play baseball. All the world's ever given her is scorn for thinking a woman could be as good as a man--until she's drafted by the King's Landing Royals. Now she's got a chance to make her wildest dreams come true.
Jaime Lannister overcame a rocky start to his career to become the premiere pitcher for the King's Landing Royals. He thinks a woman playing professional baseball is ludicrous--until he meets Brienne Tarth.
Stealing Home by PrettyThief
It was cold, he was warm, she'd polished off a very tall beer, and the night was full of happiness. Besides, they were friendly colleagues now, so surely there was no harm in a platonic hug between two fans.
Coaches Jaime Lannister and Brienne Tarth find themselves seated together watching the losingest team in baseball, Brienne's beloved Storm's End Stags, compete in the final game of the World Series.
these warm summer evenings where we once and again shall meet by sdwolfpup
This summer, the fourth since they'd parted after college, Jaime's coming for a month, and Brienne's already dreading having to say goodbye at the end of it. But there's no alternative, because they're simply baseball buddies, no matter how many nights Brienne might fall asleep talking to Jaime on the phone about work or how often he texts her random non-baseball thoughts during the day. Regardless of too-long hugs and extended vacation stays.
It's been eight years since they met. She's sure she's missed her chance to try to make it anything more, so she's going to be happy with the time she gets. Just as soon as she stops dreaming about him.
Right Off the Bat by hillaryschu
to be read in 90s Movie Trailer RomCom Voice
Meet Jaime. He used to be the most infamous player in Major League baseball but a career-ending injury brought him back into the family business. He hates it. What he doesn’t hate is coaching the best Little League team in Kings Landing.
Meet Brienne. After her father’s death, she left behind a successful career in women’s competitive fastpitch to start over. She’s trying to balance life and love in a new city, all while coaching a down-and-out Little League team.
In a world where everyone is looking to connect, Jaime and Brienne discover the best way to meet someone is to never meet at all. What they don’t realize, is that they already have.
This fanfic exchange season, follow along with Brienne and Jaime as they take to one another on Twitter and battle on the ballfield. Then find out what happens when those worlds collide.
(a You’ve Got Mail AU)
Change-up by Lady_in_Red
Jaime is used to reading signs and changing his play accordingly, but baseball and relationships are two entirely different games.
Formula 1
Heart Full of Gasoline by sdwolfpup
Jaime Lannister is a Formula 1 driver with a sordid past, dubious future, and nothing left to lose as he hits the far edge of his career. He thinks all he wants is the world championship title he’s never quite been able to reach and to finally give up smoking. What he finds to his great surprise is what he really wants might be Brienne Tarth.
Brienne Tarth is an unknown mechanic eager to make the jump to the big time of Formula 1. When Jaime hires her as Chief Mechanic for his team of misfits, she discovers she’s ready for the work, but is she ready for Jaime?
Bull Riding
Fever by Lady_in_Red
As a professional bull rider, Jaime Lannister cheated death, eight seconds at a time, for more than a decade. When his luck finally runs out, Brienne Tarth becomes his unlikely savior. A slow-burn romance set against a backdrop of dangerous sports and pop culture geekery in a Westeros-flavored United States.
What he loves might kill him But he's got no choice, he's a different breed With a voice down deep inside That's screamin' he was born to ride - "The Fever," Garth Brooks
Dancing
I Owe It All To You by theworldunseen
Fresh off another World Cup title with the United States Women's National Team and heading into retirement, Brienne Tarth lets her friends convince her to join the newest cast of Dancing With The Stars. Mostly she doesn't want to embarrass herself. When the show pairs her with veteran dancer Jaime Lannister, she gets even more than she bargained for.
Hockey/Dancing
when the sun shine, we shine together by cardinalgirl75
Brienne spent one incredible weekend with hockey superstar Jaime Lannister, only for him to break her heart when it was over. Four years later, she's moved on with her life and made a name for herself as the lead choreographer for one of the hottest shows on television--Lip Sync Battle. The last thing in the world she wants is for the show's creator to announce that he's pursuing Jaime to be one of the contestants.
Tennis
Grand Slam by LadyRhiyana
In which Jaime and Brienne play tennis, fool around, and fall in love.
Football (Soccer)
Playing Defense by RestedAbandon
Jaime and Brienne are always on opposite sides of the field, until they're not.
Kiss Cam by SeeThemFlying
Jaime and his girlfriend Cersei go to see a football game.
There's a kiss cam.
Jaime doesn't kiss Cersei.
This Is The One by disappointed_turtle
Jaime, Brienne, football, feminism, friendship, dogs, cake, sex. Good things, basically. No one is getting crushed by bricks after a wildly unbelievable 'relapse' in this story. No one is ending up celibate and having to spend their life playing the diplomat between lots of men who have failed upwards. Modern universe, this world. It'll probably be quite crude. Title from The Stone Roses song. I'll update very soon as it's almost finished.
Football (American)
Stannis Baratheon, Fantasy Football League Commissioner by ikkiM
Stannis Baratheon is the new Fantasy Football League Commissioner.
This is completely an exercise in fun. If you're looking for heavy angst or a deep exploration of the characters, this fic is not for you. If you are looking to have a laugh, come on in.
Basketball
My Best Friend is the Centerfold by PrettyThief
Five years since last they spoke, Brienne does not expect to see her old best friend, Jaime Lannister, modeling underwear on her social media feed.
Swimming/Football (American)
Beast and the Beast by SigilBroken
___________________
This is unfinished but it is great until it stops
Make Love Your Goal by lionswench
When the arrogant, widely-reviled and recently-relieved war veteran Jaime Lannister starts pulling the reins at his father's factory, he finds himself tiptoeing around the ire that munitionette Brienne Tarth seems to reserve only for him.
Careful to contain the explosive potential between the two of them, Jaime gradually begins to win Brienne over with a little help from the beautiful game. If a war can momentarily cease for a bit of football, surely a bit of workplace bickering can too, right?
A retelling of the history of Dick, Kerr Ladies FC with slightly less football, and many more feelings.

LA VIE EN ROSE… trent alexander-arnold
epilogue
trent buys white roses every week in maisie's flower shop, becoming her favourite customer.
trent alexander-arnold x fem!oc word count: 1k
other parts
(if you’ve followed this series until here, thank you so much, i appreciate it <3)
Tumblr media
in indescribable amazement, trent watches the shocked look on maisie's face after his more or less surprising confession seconds earlier. the astonishment is so great that she stops on the pavement, mouth wide open and eyebrows furrowed. a frank laugh from trent echoes in the liverpool summer air and he holds out his hand for her to grasp with her left; her right hand is too busy holding a bouquet of pink roses between her fingers.
in three years, a lot has changed, except for the weekly bouquets that trent continues to offer her.
"say it again," maisie breathes out, denying his hand, still shaken by her lover's admission who looks at her with a smile on his face.
he takes a deep breath before shoving his hands into his pockets and shaking his head, "the first time i came to buy a bouquet of white roses, it was indeed for my mother. it was her birthday. but in reality, the next few times, it was just an excuse to see you."
maisie's face twists further before she asks almost violently, "but what did you do with the bouquets then? it's forbidden to throw flowers," she points a threatening finger at the man and trent has to admit that for a split second, she almost succeeds in scaring him.
"no, i would never throw flowers," trent raises his hands innocently, "but then it became a habit to give flowers to my mother. she was happy, and so was i, because it allowed me to see you."
a satisfied expression finds its way to her face and she takes the opportunity to let out a tender smile at the boy's words. if one thing hasn't changed in three years too, it's the gentleness he shows.
as they had not moved for a few minutes, even though they were ten meters away from the front door of their house, maisie finally decides to put her legs in motion and joins trent, who slips his hand into hers at the same time. walking through the front door, the woman lets herself slump down on the couch, breathing out.
"you know, it's not good for a pregnant lady, sudden confessions like that," maisie caresses her more than rounded belly with both hands after dropping the bouquet at her side with a yawn.
trent laughs as he hangs up his coat, which he had just taken off, and hurries to join his girlfriend at her side, almost immediately bringing his face close to his still unborn child.
"i can't believe you waited until we recreated our first date to tell me that, three years later. it's so long!" she almost exclaims, still as astonished as ever, and trent, who's tracing random shapes on her bare skin where he's pulled up her shirt, doesn't stop a smile from creasing his cheeks.
it was trent's idea: to take maisie to their very first restaurant together, giving her a bouquet of pink roses and kissing her endlessly under that starry night, just like three years ago. there are many reasons why he had this urge; love being the first. but also, liverpool has just won the premier league, the woman of his life is carrying a little one in the pit of her stomach who will soon call him daddy and trent is happy.
he finds that enough to justify his action —although there is no need to do so in the first place anyway.
"it was the perfect occasion," he replies simply and maisie gives him a dirty look that trent tries to take seriously, but to no avail, laughing instead.
"and he's laughing, can you hear him rose?" the woman addresses her stomach directly, her daughter.
since the two parents-to-be had learned the sex of their baby and it had turned out to be a she, her name had been a given. rose. it was soft, and tender, it sounded perfect to the ear and it was because of these flowers that maisie and trent had met; the question had not even arisen. her name will be rose.
the man laughs and passing his arm over maisie's body, he pulls out a pink rose from the bouquet and presents it to the florist's belly before murmuring with a smile, "look, it's you."
letting out a tender laugh, maisie wraps one of her hands around trent's cheek and caresses it gently. the man then looks up at her and when he sees the woman's loving smile, a similar one spreads across his mouth.
with the rose still clasped in his fingers, trent brings it to his beloved's ear and places it behind it, taking the opportunity to kiss her with disconcerting passion.
a flurry of butterflies breaks out in the woman's lower abdomen, like those of three years ago.
breaking away a little and admiring the view it offers him, trent smiles with all his teeth as he watches maisie's cheeks turn the same colour as the flower petals in her hair, and once again sticks his lips to hers.
in three years, too, he hasn't tired of the taste of her mouth.
"i love you, and you're going to be the greatest mom in the world," he whispers, tucking some stray strands of hair back behind his ear, and maisie returns the favour by kissing him harder.
with a loving sigh and as he gently breaks away from her, trent thinks to himself that since he has chosen maisie —the most perfect woman in his eyes— to be by his side for the rest of his life, he can only see one thing: la vie en rose.
