Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat Dec 18
Ironically, I just filled out a survey the other day about this box. Changes will probably be coming to it, but not for a handful of boxes yet considering how far behind I am. If the box does change, I just help I like it~
Meanwhile I still haven’t gotten my delivery. As of tomorrow it’ll have been two weeks since it sent.
Tumblr media
“Everyone’s favorite time of year is finally here! The holidays have begun and cheer is flowing throughout the air. It is time to be generous to those around you, give and receive gifts, and to enjoy a good time with those dear to you. With that in mind, we curated a fun holiday Santa’s Snacks box so that you can share a relaxing time snacking on fun holiday themed Japanese snacks with friends and family. We hope you enjoy all the many snacks inspired by Japanese holiday culture and that this month’s snack box warms your heart during this holiday season. Who will you be sharing your snacks this month with? Whomever it is, we hope you have a great holiday!“
So because of pictures, I didn’t include the Lucky Treat or prize pics. The Lucky Treat is entirely Crayon Shin-chan dedicated (I’m not a big fan of that series so I don’t really mind not getting this one...) while the prizes are Vocaloid based. Those I’d have loved to get.
The book also features an article on Christmas traditions in Japan (like ordering KFC), and one on onsen.
Fanta Mango Jelly Drink & DIY
Tumblr media
As usual I’ll be covering the DIY in a new topic- only because I do have a handful of pictures and a few choice words...
Okay, so our first item is a jellied, mango Fanta drink. It might be a little strange to have in December, but right now when it’s June it couldn’t be better timing!
Each can is 68kcal, which I think is pretty nice because with it being full of jelly it’s bound to fill you up a bit more than a normal drink would, and if you happen to be weight conscious or don’t want a big meal it could be a good addition to the meal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I feel like if you like mango you’ll love this, but there’s a small chance if you don’t like mango you might still like it. Whatever you do do not smell it >3< maybe it’s just me, but as much as I like mango it always stinks. It’ll taste good but the smell is very unpleasant.
Texture is another thing to take into mind because this drink has it. If you don’t like gelatinous things this might not be something you would consider trying. I love jelly textures though :P
Salty Green Pea Mini Chips & Vegetable Potato Sticks
Tumblr media
Next up are two semi-healthy vegetable themed savory snacks! The share pack item are the bags of potato sticks by Calbee, Each bag is only 44kcal and packed with 9 vegetables! You can even see bits of them in each stick.
These I’m pretty sure I’ve had before, but I don’t really remember so i will be rating them just to make sure.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The flavor is light but it’s there, it doesn’t really taste like one specific vegetable though. It kind of reminds me of a very light, non-breath threatening sour cream and onion. They have a medium-crisp.
Our next item are these mini chips by Bourbon, in salted pea flavor. Every 37 grams (which might be the entire bag) is 1 serving, for a total of 207kcal.
It’s hard to tell in the pic, but they kind of have a faint green coloring.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I didn’t really like these when I first tried them, I didn’t taste anything but some salt. However, the more of them you eat the more the flavor comes through, but oddly they don’t really taste like peas to me (I hate peas so it’s not a big deal), they make me think more of pistachio.
Apple Chocobi & Bourbon Strawberry Chocolate Chips
Tumblr media
Okay, you can probably tell by now that Bourbon is kinda featured a lot in the box. Not a big deal though cause they got a lot of variety :3
Our first item in this pic is the Apple-flavored Chocobi. I admit I’m not a huge fan of these, usually because they go stale before I can finish them and they’re too sweet in my opinion. But I do like to try new flavors, and I love apples so I decided to remain open minded about this one.
These are made from apples all the way in Nagano Japan, and this set includes some cute, Crayon Shin-chan stickers in various locations in Japan. The one I got is Kagoshima.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I was very surprised by how tasty these are~ They are sweet but not cloyingly, and they actually taste like real apples, but they kind of remind me of cereal too.
For now, I think these might be my favorite (or at least liked) chocobi :3
Our next item I was very excited to try! I love strawberry chocolate, and chocolate-covered chips are usually-always delicious~
Each pack is 199kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They pretty much taste like their name “chips covered in strawberry chocolate“, with a hint of salt. It makes me think of eating McDonalds fries with strawberry milk or ice cream actually, but they are delicious!
The flavor might be a bit odd, but I really think it’s good. I want to keep eating them~
Kumamon White Sesame Cracker
Tumblr media
Our next item is a dense white sesame cracker, I think it also has a very light glaze and broken up pieces of nut in it. It kind of looks like something you would give a bird doesn’t it?
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I thought it was kind of yummy, I love sesame seeds. But I also feel like I taste a bit of peanut, which I hate. I also didn’t like how dry it left my mouth after eating it. It’s also a little bitter, and sweet.
I feel like this is an “acquired“ item, because I gave a piece of it to my mom and she dislikes sesame seeds. Now, I’ve given her mochi with sesame seeds and she doesn’t seem to hate them, but this she didn’t like at all.
See, it’s unique things like this I wish they gave us more often. Maybe more rice-based products?
Melon Bread Cookies & Burnt Caramel Taiyaki
Tumblr media
Next up we have two sweet items, first up being a small cookie based on Melon Pan (bread that resembles a melon. Only some of them actually taste like melon though).
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I’d say the melon-flavoring is a medium-high in rating, and I think the cookie might be shortbread. I thought it was nice for a bite sized cookie.
The larger item on the side is inspired by a Taiyaki (fish-shaped pancake-like treats filled with cream, jam, or chocolate). This is a popular snack item by meito and is flavored burnt caramel, these specific taiyaki are made from wafer with air popped chocolate inside~!
This specific flavor is 87kcal, and they have a handful of different flavors. As of now, I’ve tried two or three (soon to be four hint hint) of these, they’re so good.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The black color might look a bit scary at first (or not, I like black so I thought it was kind of fun), but oddly to me it actually smells and tastes a lot like brown sugar and pancakes, I love caramel but I thought this tasted amazing!
I would highly recommend trying this, or any of the others if you can find them!
Bubbly Cola Ramune Candy & Tomato & Cherry Gummies
Tumblr media
Okay so... one of these items I was extremely dreading to try. Wanna guess which one?
Our first item here is the cola candy inspired by a real pop. If the picture doesn’t imply anything, this is very foamy. I noticed when sucking on it, the foaming is very slow, and the candy has a teensy bit of sourness. But when you bite into it, it will foam a huge amount! It filled my entire mouth!
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
As I say all the time, I love cola (I’m even drinking coke as I write this) so I really like getting to try the unique cola-flavored Japanese candies. I think these were really fun, and each pack actually has 3 of them in it so these would be a fun candy to share with friends or to give someone if you wanted to play a cute little prank on them ;p
The next item meanwhile... I was terrified of it. It’s our Kinosei (health snack) is a bag of these tomato and cherry gummies. They contain a blend of natural collagen and lycopene to increase ones natural beauty. They also lower blood pressure, refresh the skin, and help ones heart. It’s also naturally refreshing.
Each bag is 94kcal. They are squishy-soft and jelly-like on the inside. They smell strongly of ketchup and sweetness.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I kid you not, each time I smell these I cringe. I HATE tomatoes, but ironically I really like ketchup. Because of this, I was honestly afraid of this, the only reason I tried it was because I figured “it can’t be any worse than that Takoyaki ramune right?“
They’re actually not bad though; I was shook! I can’t really explain the flavor though, it’s like a cross between cherries and the acidicness of ketchup. Does that make sense? They’re have a neutral sweetness to them, and they actually are kind of refreshing.
A few years ago I saw tomato jelly (basically a jelly tomato) on cold noodles during the summer and thought “what a strange concept“, but now I feel like I understand it a little more...
Bourbon Sylveine Chocolate Cake
Tumblr media
To go with the holiday box, of course they had to include a holiday staple- that being a delicious cake! Everyone has a cake on Christmas in Japan, along with the KFC or home-cooked meal. Like a few other items this cake is by the brand Bourbon.
Each cake (or box, I’m not sure) is 102kcal. There are six cakes in total, so you could essentially use this as a dessert for a meal if you wanted :3 The cake is a soft, creamy yellow with thin sections of cream between the layers, and it is covered in chocolate and topped with something. I’m not sure what it is, but it reminds me of a raisin in taste and feel.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
These are delicious- they’re a lot like little snack cakes you can buy at the grocery store, in fact I wouldn’t be surprised if these are the Japanese version of them.
The cakes are very soft and squishable, but not soft enough that they can’t be eaten in your hands if you really wanted or had to. But the chocolate is super-melty and a little bit bitter in taste.
I don’t get to have fancy cakes as much as I would like to (nor can I make them just yet...), I couldn’t help but feel fancy eating these cuties~
Oh, and I did share them with my family, don’t worry.
Takoyaki Umaibo & Christmas Pizza Poteko
Tumblr media
I was pleasantly delighted by the variety of savory items we got, and surprised too. Our last time items are also savory :D including an Umaibo I’m not going to review because I’ve already had it.
I will say that I think it’s delicious though- way better than the horrible takoyaki Ramune drink. It doesn’t taste fishy, but I honestly can’t think of how to describe the flavor either. It’s covered in seasoning, and it seems to have a very thin, saucy layer or glaze, matching the sauce Takoyaki is usually covered in.
The last item, which I will review because it’s new is an item we get all the time, Poteko rings. You’ve seen these several times on here, but again, when we have a new flavor I’m more likely to be open-minded, and I was kind of curious because we hardly get pizza-inspired snacks.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
They strongly smell like cheese, but I actually didn’t taste pizza at all. To me (my mom agreed but my dad took some time to agree as well), it tastes like a McDonalds cheeseburger!
Like an exact cheeseburger from McDonalds. Bun, burger, cheese, ketchup, pickle and all. It’s very delicious, but it kind of made me wonder if they make burger flavored snacks...
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 5 out of 5. I loved everything! There was also a nice change in that we had a LOT of savory items, and I thought they did well in terms of item variety. There was a bit of each thing.
Theme - 1.5 out of 5. Sadly I thought they did decently with this before, but this year was really lacking. I could feel the spirit on Christmas with the box, but if I didn’t know it was a Christmas box and didn’t get the one item with a Christmas wrapper I wouldn’t have been able to tell it was Christmas themed.
Total Rank: 9 out of 10. An awesome box, one of the best to have gotten I thought. All they had to do was focus more on the Christmas theme they were going for and I think it could have been a perfect 10.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Burnt Caramel Taiyaki - Like I said, I’m not sure it tasted like caramel. But I really liked it! If I see it online I’ll definitely be buying it, I just hope the next one I get tastes as good, if not better~
2. Chocolate Cake - I’m glad we got six of these because they are very delicious~ My dad and I loved them, but my mom was less receptive since it reminded her of dark chocolate.
3. Strawberry chocolate chips - I like em, what more can i say :D
4. Takoyaki Umaibo - I may not be able to describe the flavor well but this one is a winner!
5. Mango Jelly Drink - I really liked this, but as I already warned- try not to smell mango items. They will either smell delicious, or like feet.
6. Cola Candy - I love cola, I love pop, I think fizzy candy is fun to try; I was a little surprised they were kind of sour though.
7. Apple Chocobi - Again, I was surprised by how much I actually liked these. Only because I’ve never been into Chocobi that much. They don’t taste bad, but I gotta remember to eat these before they go south (stale).
8. Pizza Poteko - I’m still convinced they taste like cheeseburgers, but they are good :P
9. Tomato & Cherry Gummies - I was really surprised by these!
10. Melon Bread Cookie - It was okay. I like melon, but for some reason I’m not too into melon-flavored baked goods. I love melon candy and drinks.
11. Potato Sticks - They don’t have a huge amount of taste but I still like them enough. I like the texture too.
12. Peas Mini Chips -  They weren’t bad, I just like other items more.
13. Sesame Cracker - I really did like it, but I wasn’t too crazy about the desert left in my mouth after eating it...

La seconda, Love Is Power, or Something Like That, uscita nel 2013, sarà pubblicata da 66thand2nd nel 2018.

Subscription Box Review
Our first glimpse inside the Japan Okashi Box. This box is absolutely stuffed with snacks and treats! We couldn’t wait to see what was inside!
Everything that we received in our Japan Okashi Box. There’s about 20 snacks in here which is A LOT! Some we’ve heard of in the past and some we haven’t so this is going to be a LOT of fun! The unboxing is also a tasting review so if you want to watch while we try some of these snacks check that out above!
So what is all this stuff?
Our inserts.
#gallery-0-7 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 50%; } #gallery-0-7 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-7 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
First we have a list of items that were included in this box.
Then we have our surprise gift which is a packet of sticky notes and page flags that feature a really cute sleepy polar bear!
  Ichigo Mugikko
The first item in our box are these little strawberry chocolate coated corn puffs. These were a sweet treat that our kids really liked! We think the package is super adorable.
  Tsuno Edamame
These little chips are made with edamame which is a huge hit with our family. The actual chip was less green than they appeared on the package but were extremely flavorful! We ate this bag in just one sitting.
  Yoguleto
Next up in this small box is a treat from snack giant Meiji. These yogurt flavored tablets are tasty and a lot like a Sweet Tart but actually sweeter and creamier. So really… they’re only just shaped like a Sweet Tart!
They come on actual tablet packs like medicine!
  Tamanegi-san Taro
These onion flavored corn puffs were super tasty and we love the packaging. We ate these all in one sitting! It’s important to note that the list of items included in the box also includes an ingredients list in case you or anyone in your life has food sensitivities or allergies.
  Gummy Choco
Our next sweet treat is exactly as the name describes it. You have a strawberry gummy covered in chocolate. These are really sweet, a great treat for the kids. Our box has the Olympics seal on it as well!
Here are three of these tasty little treats!
  Pretz
Made by Glico, Pretz are one of the more popular Japanese treats. We received a packet of the lightly salted variety.
  Puchi Potato
We received an entire sleeve of these mini potato chips. We gave these out for afternoon snack and the kids really enjoyed them.
These are a little bit salty and have seaweed and soy sauce flavor. Pretty yummy!
  Pureralu Gumi
Next in our Okashi Box is a bag of apple flavored gummies. These are similar to Turkish Delight gummies in their shape and structure.
We were surprised with the brightness of the flavors of these gummies!
  Kotsubo Poteko
From Tahato the makers of those delicious caramel corn puffs we have this potato flavored snack.
These have a lot of crunch and are just little rings. We think they’re pretty cute!
  Milky
This box that seems a bit inspired by a vintage vibe is full of creamy, taffy like wrapped candies. These are great to keep in your purse or car as an on the go snack!
  Umaibo
#gallery-0-8 { margin: auto; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-item { float: left; margin-top: 10px; text-align: center; width: 33%; } #gallery-0-8 img { border: 2px solid #cfcfcf; } #gallery-0-8 .gallery-caption { margin-left: 0; } /* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */
Next up are three different flavored Umaibo. These are puffed corn tubes with super fun packaging. From left to right is chicken curry, teriyaki and finally there’s Mentai.
These are one of our personal favorites because of all the fun flavors that they have to offer!
  Kakinotane
Next up is another one of our absolute favorites. These chili flavored sticks are a bit spicy and super crunchy. The peanuts give them a nice amount of richness as well!
  Young Donuts
These caught our eye as soon as we opened the box. This package of four small donuts was sweet and tasty! We’d love to say that we shared these but we didn’t.. we ate them all ourselves!
  Bakauke
This sweet and salty sesame flavored rice cracker reminds us very much of a rusk and is every bit as tasty! We really like this a lot!
  Black Thunder
We also received 2 of these chocolate on chocolate chocolate, bars. We’ve never had these before and thought they were really good (and we aren’t huge chocolate fans)!
  Matcha Kit Kat
One item that we were most excited about receiving in this box are these 2 matcha flavored Kit Kats and they did not disappoint! They had that low, subtle and mellow flavor of green tea in a sweet candy bar form. We are so happy that we finally got to try these!
  Grape Hi-Chew
The final item in our Japan Okashi Box is this package of grape Hi-Chew. We love Hi-Chew but don’t think we’ve ever seen just a grape package. We put one of these in both our daughters lunches this morning as a special little treat!
  So in summary
Presentation: We always love when things come from overseas. There’s something really cool about all the customs labels. This box despite it’s long trip arrived to us beautifully package and in perfect condition!
Quality: Japan Okashi keeps it really authentic and only sends real Japanese snacks directly from Japan. We love that about this box!
Curation: This box is so full.. what more can we say?! They provide an excellent amount of both sweet and savory snacks to appeal to all peoples preferences and we also feel like they gave us some of the more popular snacks and treats and some of the lesser known items as well!

TokyoTreat
$25 – $35 per month
Free worldwide shipping from Tokyo
TokyoTreat is a monthly Japanese snack subscription box shipped straight from Tokyo. They recently revamped their subscription service, and they now offer two sizes. There’s the Classic for $22.50-$25 and the Premium for $31.50-$35. (The cheaper prices are for prepaid plans.) TokyoTreat curates a box of fun, seasonal snacks with the aim to share their love of Japanese treats.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
For October 2018 the theme is “Trick or Tokyo Treat,” so all the snacks are centered around a Halloween theme. Just glancing at the contents, it feels very spooky. There’s lots of oranges, blacks, and purples in the packaging of the snacks. There’s both a physical booklet and an online zine with information about the snacks, Japanese culture, contents, etc. They also just started a new loyalty program! It’s streak-based, meaning the longer you subscribe the more points, discounts, and rewards you can earn.
The Premium Box includes 12 full sized items: 4 popular Japanese snacks, 4 sharable packs, 2 dagashi, 1 DIY kit, and 1 kinosei (health-benefit) snack. The Premium box includes 17 full sized items: 5 popular snacks, 1 party pack, 4 sharable packs, 3 dagashi, 1 Anime snack, 1 DIY kit, 1 kinosei snack, and 1 Japanese drink. It’s rare to get seasonal Japanese drinks outside of Japan, so that’s always one of my favorite items.  There is also a smaller box available, called the “Classic Box.”
I’m reviewing the Premium Box, and items marked with an asterisk* are exclusive to the Premium Box. Also, my cat decided to nap right on the cloth I used to take photos, so she’s making an appearance in this review!
Caramel Pudding Kit Kats *
This month’s party pack is full of a new type of Kit Kat. The caramel flavor is light while the pudding flavor is creamy and sweet. It’s not the most complex flavor, but it’s something I think most people will enjoy! I also like that the packages have little sign language lessons on them.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Takoyaki Ramune *
This month’s drink is a wild one—it’s takoyaki flavored soda. Takoyaki are a ball-shaped savory food consisting of a piece of octopus inside a ball of batter cooked in a special pan and typically topped with bonito flakes, pickled ginger, and green onion. So, sounds like a tasty soda, right? While I get that this soda is the “trick” part of “trick or treat,” I’m on the fence. I typically enjoy when snack boxes include a few strong/wacky flavors, but I feel like a lot of people are going to take a sip and then pour out the rest. It’s not as bad as I was expecting, but I couldn’t drink more than one gulp. It tastes like a sweet okonomiyaki sauce—sort of a thick, brown sauce made with ketchup, Worcestershire, and oyster sauce.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Tongari Corn Salted Caramel *
This snack’s information in the booklet is the information from last month’s plum chips! Oops! But, you can tell from the packaging and the online zine that this snack is a salty-sweet corn chip snack. It’s a salted caramel flavor, but the sweetness is a bit overpowered by the saltiness of the corn. It’s still yummy, but it’d be extra good with a bit more sweetness to balance out the corn.
Winnie the Pooh Honey & Chocolate Chip Cookies *
These two packs of cookies have a cute Winnie the Pooh Halloween theme! One pack is chocolate chip cookies and the other is a honey wafer cookie. Both taste good, but I think the honey one is my favorite! It tastes like a Vanilla Wafer made with honey.
Butter Cream Roll Cake *
The last premium-exclusive item is a little roll cake. It’s a yellow cake rolled with a butter cream. For a packaged cake, it’s not bad—the texture of the cream is smooth, and the flavor is light.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Sanrio Halloween Papiro
This snack comes in a cute little Halloween box decorated with Sanrio characters. Inside there’s a bag of individually wrapped “papiro.” They’re little chocolate rolled cookies filled with almond chocolate cream. The cookie is quite crunchy with a rich chocolate flavor, but I don’t really taste any almond.
Halloween Chupa Chups Lollipop
This Halloween-themed Chupa Chups is half strawberry and half lime. I really like the combination of sweet and a bit of sourness! The skull shape is fun too.
Mochitaro Salt Rice Puffs
This little pack contains small puffed rice crackers lightly salted. They’re quite soft and offer a clean, savory taste. They almost remind me of popcorn! They’d be great to munch on during a scary movie.
Halloween Shrimp Crackers
Another savory snack, these shrimp crackers got a Halloween makeover. I’m not a fan of shrimp, so I’ll pass these along to a friend, but I like the cute packaging and that they included a seafood flavor this month!
Halloween Poteko Pumpkin Gratin
This little pyramid packs are pumpkin gratin flavored rings. They’re really good! They’re salty with a hint of sweetness from the pumpkin. The packages have little English lessons for Halloween on them too, which is cute.
Pumpkin Wheat Puffs Share Pack
Another pumpkin snack, these are sweet wheat puffs. There’s a little earthiness from the pumpkin. They melt in your mouth immediately–the texture of this type of snack isn’t my favorite, but that’s just a personal preference. The Halloween packaging is cute, which I appreciate.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Candy Apple DIY Kit
This month’s DIY kit is one I’ve received from snack boxes a few times, but I’m happy to get it again! This kit is simple to do and tastes really good! The chewy apple candies used as the base of the DIY have a strong apple flavor, and it’s fun to dip them in the “glaze” and then in the sprinkles! It’s perfect for the Halloween theme too.
Balance Mini-Cake Bar
This month’s kinosei (health benefit) treat is this little balanced snack bar. There’s 10 different vitamins and minerals in this cheesecake flavored bar. In this dense bar the cheesecake flavor is there, but it’s subtle.
Halloween Umaibo Corn Potage
The last item is the ever-present Umaibo in the classic corn potage flavor. The packaging is dressed up for Halloween, which is cute. The puffed corn snack has a savory and salty corn soup flavor, which I always enjoy.
My favorites this month were the Halloween Chupa Chups Lollipop, Mochitaro Salt Rice Puffs, and the Candy Apple DIY Kit. The Takoyaki soda is a risky choice. While wacky flavors can be fun, this one does feel like a waste. It’s interesting to try a sip, but we’re just going to dump the rest. I imagine most subscribers will do something similar. I feel like the flavors of the snacks this month weren’t as awesome, but I appreciated that they really stuck to the Halloween theme. As always, make sure to check out their social media for contests, coupons, and sneak peaks of upcoming boxes. I’m excited that they’ve started their new “Streaks” loyalty program as well.
If you want to get your own Classic or Premium box, you can do so here. Prices range from $25 – $35 per month and boxes are shipped from Tokyo through Japan Post. Shipping is free worldwide! If you want to receive the October box, make sure to subscribe by the end of September!

TokyoTreat Classic Review July 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review July 2018
This month’s box is all about summer camping snacks and flavors that remind you of such. The snacks inside all are part of the theme, and should make you think about the fun days and nights of summer!
Chocolate Mint Twigs
It’s chocolate in the summer again! I was really worried about these chocolate twigs melting, but they seemed to be okay when I opened them up.
These are flavored like mint chocolate chip ice cream. They do taste pretty close to that, with the mint flavor not too strong. The texture is softer than I would have guessed, but that’s not a bad thing. These are nice for a small, quick chocolate fix.
Rating: 5/5
Okara Cheesecake Cookies
These are very soft biscuit cookies that are flavored like cheesecake, made with okara fiber. Okara is soy pulp, according to a quick Google search.
They do taste like cheesecake, but they’re not very sweet. This isn’t bad, but not exactly what I expected. I would eat them again if given them, but I’m not too sure I’d buy them! (I do like how soft they are, though.)
Rating: 4/5
Rich BBQ Potato Sticks
These are thin potato sticks flavored with BBQ powder, in a convenient one hand bag. The whole gimmick of the bag works okay for a bit, but when you eat enough of them, the remaining sticks become a little stubborn about leaving the small hole. I ended up just opening the bag like normal then.
The taste is fine, pretty sweet like a lot of BBQ sauces. I liked them! They’re just simple and there isn’t a whole lot to say. 🙂
Rating: 5/5
Poteko Potato Rings Share Pack
I feel like I’ve gotten these before in a past box, but I don’t recall when!
These are very, very simple little potato rings. They’re lightly salted, and so it’s very easy to eat one bag in a sitting.
Luckily, four bags were in the box, so eating one quickly isn’t too bad, haha.
I really enjoy how lightly salted these are.
Rating: 4/5
Pretty Cure Chocolate Wafer
This is a chocolate wafer cookie with Precure characters on the package and a small nail decor page inside.
The wafer is basic; in fact, I’m sure I’ve had the same thing in a different package before. It’s not bad at all, though, and it survived the summer heat to get to me!
Rating: 5/5
Cheese Umaibo
Cheese Umaibo is the best Umaibo. It’s sweet and cheesy, and not too greasy or ambitious.
This one came broken, but it was still tasty. I’d love to have it again!
Rating: 5/5
Grape Soda Gummy
This is a gummy flavored like grape soda, covered in sugar powder.
As you can see, it did not survive the summer heat.
The grape flavor was still there, but the gummy was stuck in the package and hard to eat. The sugar powder all shifted to the bottom, too.
I feel like I can’t give this a fair rating due to the situation it arrived in.
Rating: Arrived melted, can’t rate.
Konpeito Candy
This is a very well known candy shaped like stars (or flowers, kinda). The candy has various light flavors, but mainly tastes like sugar.
Luna loved them in the Sailor Moon S movie!
Wishing upon these won’t let you meet Sailor Moon, but they’re tasty!
Rating: 5/5
Water Candy DIY
This DIY kit lets you choose between ramune, strawberry, or lemon liquid candy, or a mix of them all that makes a grape flavor.
I admit, I forgot to try the individual flavors! I did try the grape, though, and it was impressive! I kind of can’t believe how the original three flavors made grape so well.
That being said, this was REALLY sweet, too sweet for me to finish.
Rating: 4/5
VERDICT: This was another excellent box with no ‘duds’. The melted gummy was a little disappointing, but it was so small that it didn’t matter at the end of the day. Looking forward to the next one!
Interested in trying TokyoTreat out for yourself? A classic box, like what I have reviewed here, is available for $25 on TokyoTreat’s page.  A premium option is also available for a little more.

Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat Oct 18
As an update from my last post, I pretty much stayed up last night and browsed Blippo.com. They have tons of products and yes, there was some heartbreak in them not having a couple things I would have really liked- but I still found a variety of things worth getting and in a couple of days I will be giving it a once over before I make my purchase!
Not related to Tokyo Treat, but I thought it was worth mentioning.
Tumblr media
“Happy Halloween to our Tokyo Treat family! We love this season as the weather is finally starting to cool down, the leaves begin to change color, and of course, the ghouls appear! To celebrate this fun season we have curated a box full of seasonal Halloween limited-time items. Our hope is that the moment you open your box you are filled with Halloween cheer! So, we hope that you absolutely love this month’s Trick or Treat Tokyo Treat box! We plan on dressing up to enjoy this holiday, and we hope that you do the same What are you planning on being this Halloween? Whether it is a creepy creature, a ghastly ghoul, or a kawaii character, be sure to have a great time!“
For this month, our Lucky Treat stars the adorable Gudetama with some Pokemon on the side, while the prizes for the months contest includes some adorable Pikachu products.
There is also an article on Yokai, an adorable Kappa matching game, and an article on Dashi, a common stock used in a variety of Japanese cuisine.
Candy Apple DIY Kit
Tumblr media
This is our DIY item, one I’ve had a couple of times already; kinda disappointing but at least it’s a good one. I already reviewed this so you can check that out here: https://cutiecrates.tumblr.com/post/160472604642/cutie-reviews-apple-soft-candy-diy
Takoyako Ramune
Tumblr media
Yes, you read that right. I was praying to never see a “weird ramune“ again after the Christmas potato one.... this had me wishing for the potato. I’m sorry anyone I might have offended but I’m not a “weird drink“ type of gal >3<
So as the booklet says, this is the “Halloween Trick“ :P For anyone unfamiliar, Takoyaki are “fried octopus balls“. Basically, a ball of dough filled with a piece of octopus meat, onion, pickled vegetables, ginger, etc, then covered in delicious sauces. They’re kind of acquired to those outside of Japan, but it’s a very popular dish.
Rating: ♥
Yeah... this was terrible x_x It smells really bad, but I was surprised to say the flavor tasted a lot lighter. I only took a tiny sip but that was enough for me... I ended up psyching myself out before I even managed to drink it so I sat with this thing for like 10-15 minutes. It tastes exactly like a thinned down version of the Mc Donalds sweet and sour sauce... which prior to this drink used to be my favorite from there.
It’s probably still my favorite honestly. But if I had drank anymore, I’m not so sure about that.
Winnie The Pooh Cookies
Tumblr media
Our first two items are these bags of adorable cookies x3 Both feature a colorful package and the adorable Winnie the Pooh characters and the phrase Happy Hunnyween, isn’t that precious~?
My favorite has always been Piglet, and my mom loves Eeyore, what about you guys?
The cookies came in 2 flavors, chocolate chip, and sweet honey. They have a very crumbly texture that kind of reminds me of softened graham cracker.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m rating them both together since they’re essentially the same thing but with a different flavor. They taste okay in terms of a cookie quality, nothing special but they’re not bad. The sweet honey one actually doesn’t taste like honey to me, but apples, which I thought was kind of tasty. The chocolate chip ones meanwhile, have a plainer taste and the chocolate chips are hardly noticeable.
If I had to choose one over the other, I’m not sure which one I'd pick. They seem a lot alike to me. These would be good if you like cookies that aren’t super-sweet or want a softish type of snack.
Tongari Corn & Shrimp Crackers & Pumpkin Wheat Puffs
Tumblr media
I’ll be starting with the wheat puffs (the super obscure little yellow things on the plate. I’m sorry but I didn’t realize how invisible they looked in the picture when I took it...), my least favorite of the trio.
These are the share pack snack, made by Maeda (I assume from the link on the package), each pack is 39 calories and they are pumpkin-flavored puffs of wheat. They have a solid, but crumbly, powdered texture, and each bag includes a cute Halloween inspired drawing.
Rating: ♥
These aren’t very good, they remind me a lot of an egg yolk in terms of... everything. They don’t taste like pumpkin or wheat, I dislike them a lot and a part of me feels like these would be more suitable for younger children.
Our next item is the Shrimp Crackers by Calbee, the most common shrimp cracker I‘ve seen and had, but this time they included a fun Halloween design!
Each bag is 128 calories, and on the back of the bag they include a cute drawing depicting the “making of shrimp chips“.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I’m not big on seafood, so seafood-based snacks can either be a hit or miss with me. These I’ve had once or twice before, but I’m not entirely devoted to them. The more I eat the less intense the flavor is though, and they’re tolerable. I don’t dislike them. They’re a light crunch in terms of texture.
Our final item in this picture is the Tongari Corn, a very popular snack by House, which is basically the Japanese version of the American Bugles.
It’s also interesting to note that whoever writes these didn’t proof-read the “menu“ in the booklet because the information for the snack comes from last months box. The flavor is Salted Caramel, and the calorie count is 381. For the holiday there is a cute eye-mask you can cut out of the packaging too :D
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I like these way more than Bugles, and they’re salted with a light sweetness that tastes amazing. It doesn’t remind me of a caramel though. These are extremely addictive, especially if you enjoy a nice crunchy texture. Wrong information or not, these would be a great movie snack.
Poteko & Chupa Chups Lollipop
Tumblr media
Poteko is nothing new in a long mile for this box, but this month we get a unique flavor Pumpkin Gratin. There was three bags available, each with a kawaii Halloween design.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I like Poteko enough as is, they have a light saltiness, the crunch is really good- but I was getting tired of them! We get them fairly frequently, but these ones have a unique flavoring to them. For most part they taste like normal Poteko, but there is a light difference to them, I’m not really sure if it reminds me of pumpkin or anything.
Our next item is the popular Halloween Chupa Chups lollipop. I’ve seen these pretty frequently (they even have big skulls decorated to make you can buy them in) but I never had one before, so this will be my first time trying it :P I waited until I was writing this to do so, and I am very excited!
According to the booklet, the skull is a sweet strawberry, while the sour element is the lime-flavored brain.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I was really surprised. The “strawberry hard candy“ actually tastes a bit like lime, while the “sour brains“ tastes like a slightly different lime, and it’s like a hard-soft candy you can bite into it right away. It wasn’t sour at all, which on one hand is a bit lame cause I like sour candy- but at the same time, it tastes delicious~
Roll Cake & Balance Mini-Cake Bar & Caramel Pudding Kit Kat
Tumblr media
This box is a bit repetitive this month, because once again we’re looking at a Butter Cream Roll Cake, this is probably the third or fourth one I’ve gotten... but oddly this one is much smaller than usual. Er, ignoring the fact I bit it in half prior to taking the picture...
I’m not going to bother rating this due to having done it so many times before. But I will say that it’s a lovely little cake, very soft with a light buttery flavor. It’s a nice alternative to those much bigger snack cakes if you feel bad about eating them.
Our next item is a Mini-Cake Bar, the Kinosei Health Snack of the month :3 Packed with over 10 vitamins, calcium, iron, and magnesium! It’s a very healthy snack at only 98 calories and would be a good choice in the morning or afternoon.
The flavor for this one is Baked Cheesecake, and I know I had something like it before- but ‘m not sure if it was the same flavor or another one. It’s been a while.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Cheesecake is one of my most favorite foods, so I always look forward to trying cheesecake-flavored things. However, anytime there is something like that in one of these boxes, it always has a lemonish taste. I'm not sure if they include citrus or lemon in their cheesecakes, or if that’s just how my tongue interprets it. It’s pretty good though, and the texture is soft without being a crumbly mess.
The final item in this picture is a huge bag of delicious caramel pudding flavored kit-kats ♥ featured a super-cute Halloween design and “hand talk“ written on each package. Each pack is 63 calories.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
These taste AMAZING; definitely a must-try kit-kat out of every flavor made so far. They have a very strong scent and taste, and taste like creamy white chocolate (which for the record I don’t like too much) and caramel~
Sanrio Halloween Papiro
Tumblr media
Our next item is this adorable box of chocolate rolls. Each is filled with chocolate cream, and there is a light almond flavor to them. The entire box calorie cost is 366, and each is individually wrapped in a bigger bag- I was very impressed by the fanciness.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
The outside doesn’t really taste like much, and what little I do taste of it kind of bleh. I’m not sure how to describe it, I guess it tastes like almond a little? The cream inside is about the same but lacks the bleh aspects, it’s also very soft an fluffy like a mousse.
Halloween Umaibo & Mochitaro Salt Rice Puffs
Tumblr media
These are our final 2 items of the box, the Umaibo is an oldie but it’s my most favorite thing ever! Like in the Kawaii Box I recently reviewed, it’s Corn Potage flavored, which is the BEST Umaibo. Repetitive or not I would never turn down one of these!
Although now that I looked at it, I’m thinking maybe corn is a popular flavor in Japan around Halloween? Which would explain there was so much of it in this box, and the chosen Umaibo from the Kawaii Box. I feel a bit bad over saying it was a “missed opportunity“ now.
Anyway I don’t think it’s necessary to rate it considering I’ve praised it a million times by now.
The other item however, we have also had a few times; but the flavor always seems to be a bit different. It’s a rice puff, I’m not sure of the brand who makes these due to the vague packaging, but the images are always really cute to look at x3
Rating: ♥ ♥
Usually the flavor is pretty strong with these and they taste great, and I love rice; but this flavor actually kind of sucks. No offense anybody who likes these or its makers, but to me this only tasted like peanuts- and I HATE peanuts. I wasn’t surprised when I finished the bag and found at the very bottom 2 of them.
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 3 out of 5. I liked how everything tasted -minus the drink and one food item- but 6 of the 14 items were repetitive. Yes, they were yummy, and if in the case of the Umaibo it shouldn’t be a big deal; but I really like getting to try new things and flavors, and that’s what I pay for. Even the DIY was a repeat and there’s a ton I’ve yet to experience, I wish they would throw in more detailed ones again like they did before.
Theme - 4 out of 5. 10 of the 14 items are decorated for the holiday, as is the booklet as usual. In a way I get the sense of the Holiday from the box.
Total Rank: 7 out of 10. I really liked the included items we got x3 everything was in great condition, no bumps or bruises, but I really wish there had been some more unique items in the box. Like out of everything here, only 3 things really stood out as unique to me. I feel like a few of the premium and classic box items should have been switched too, but that’s just me.
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Corn Umaibo - I’m biased but we all know that by now. I also just really like it’s fun packaging.
2. Tongari Corn - Now that I tried these I know why the Japanese love these so much!
3. Caramel Pudding Kit Kat - I like Kit Kats anyway, but I don’t always eat them. But these I could see reaching for pretty frequently :P thank goodness we got such a big bag! I Recommend these.
4. Chupa Chups Lollipop - I was really surprised because it wasn’t really what I thought it would be, but I loved it!
5. Mini-Cake Bar - I love lemon flavors, sour or sweet.
6. Sweet Honey Cookies - I’m not very big on honey actually, but I did like the apple taste they had.
7. Butter Cream Roll Cake - Speaking of cream :P A very soft and gentle tasting cake.
8. Papiro - I don’t like the outside very much but I’m obsessed with the soft cream on the inside~
9. Poteko - Nothing too special, but it was nice to see them in another flavor.
10. Shrimp Crackers - Like I said, these could be a hit or miss in my opinion. Sometimes I like them and other times I get a bit grossed out by them.
11. Chocolate Chip Cookies - They didn’t have much taste.
12. Mochitaro Salt Rice Puffs - I hate peanuts, this wasn’t pleasant. But the texture is really good.
13. Pumpkin Wheat Puffs - Just no.
14. Takoyaki Ramune - I actually psyched myself up so much that I cried a little (when I wasn’t nervous laughing) before trying this. I regret it entirely and had to shove a bunch of a nearby snack in my mouth to get rid of the flavor.
Well, that will be doing it for another review :3 this ended up being my midnight snack so I’m going to be brushing my teeth and going to bed now. I’m hoping to get the next review, October’s Doki Doki Crate up during the weekend, then I’ll be starting up the November boxes~!
Remember to open boxes of cuteness every day!
