So I've had this in my pocket for the past two years. I've been debating on putting this up or not since I think the comment was later deleted or hidden and I don't know if that was the posters doing or a mod on the reddit. This was someone I interviewed back when I was looking into RT's labor practices back in 2019. I feel like putting this up now considering RT will cease to exist and because I'm seeing Shane being brought up again so hey here's a former employee stating how one of the reasons they didn't open up about their experience was because of how Shane was treated by the fanbase and was worried about going through the same thing.

I am new to rwde stuff, and I'm wondering why Miles is so often singled out in criticism? Like, with self-insert stuff that makes sense, but I also see people criticize the relics/gods worldbuilding as a Miles thing, without mention of Kerry. Same for similar criticisms like the plot driving them into a corner in v10, or the mishandling of the WF plot line. Is there a reason for that, or is it holdover from not liking him for the self-insert? Is he the one who talks about it the most, or has he specifically claimed responsibility for that, or he writes more than Kerry, or something? Is it because he just seems to be the more public of the two of them, doing things like his cameos? Is he simply the more unlikable one? Thank you in advance, if you answer this question.

I think it is that, yeah - Miles is the one most often putting his foot in his mouth with weird hot takes that come back to bite him.

Him being tasked by Monty to watch a bunch of anime to see what NOT to do and ending up gushing about sword art online and loving the one soul eater character he was supposed to understand about being crass?

Him going on an off-tangent rant about how Korra world building is bad only to then rip off parts of that lore and it all end up a mess.

Him ranting how on how LGBTQ+ rep in Korra has absolutely no build up only for BB ending up getting ZERO PROPER DEVELOPMENT that it SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN FOR VOLUMES (because the show was too busy queerbaiting) and only getting a desperate kiss to attempt to get the views back up... (Mind you Korra was under a LOT of network restrictions and actually doing what the show did took actual guts while the only excuse RT has for dancing around the topic is "we don't wanna")

Him watching Land of Lustrous (a show about an immortal being experiencing trauma and PTSD and dealing with grief and existential crisis) and going "I don't get it" and then delivering the absolute messy v9 nonsense that literally vilifies trauma and goes against basic mental wellness concepts.

There's a trail of Miles stepping on the same rake over and over again going back years so he kind of became the face of all the wrong decisions taken in the show.

Plus, you know, yeah, Jaune is his baby and he somehow ends up being the faux protagonist of the show leeching off the screen time of actual protagonists and getting more development and focus than actual protagonists. And him being the guy to whom "the idea of brother gods came to in a dream" and it's easy to see why he kind of became the poster child for everything bad in the show.

However, Kerry is just as guilty for a lot of aspects of the writing but people are bit more lenient because again two worst parts of the show - Jaune and brother gods both come from Miles.

RWBY having borderline nonsensical setting and offensive problematic writing is a group effort though because RT as a whole never grew out of the "edgy homophobic jokes machinima youtuber" phase - not even after becoming a company that owns million dollar franchises.

I truly think that the tendency some people have of treating RWBY like a religion is just very weird and problematic to me.

As soon as someone starts up with the "how dare you think you might be better than the RWBY writers," "if you post too much critical things you're going to wind up like the htdm," "anyone who calls themself a rwde poster is proving that they're a bad person," "we all know rwde posters are SECRETLY evil even if there's no proof of it because spending their time criticizing RWBY is proof enough," "we need to stand up against these sick freaks posting rwde," "these htdm people are less than shit, they're less than dirt," all that stuff...

RWBY is not sacred. The RWBY writers aren't special. Criticizing RWBY is not inherently wrong. Supporting RWBY doesn't make someone a better person. Making fix-its isn't the same thing as supporting a conservative politician. Nobody is 'lying down with dogs and getting fleas' because they criticize the merch of a bigoted company with a bigoted history. Nobody should be getting sent hate anons about how they need to stop thinking about RWBY so they can enjoy it like people should. Nobody should be getting treated like they've fallen from grace by starting to have problems with RWBY. Nobody should be getting treated like they should've just had faith that what seems like missteps in RWBY are actually secretly part of a larger great and good plan that will unfold in due time so long as we keep giving RT our money and believing that the people that whistle-blew on the company were all just liars trying to destroy the good work that Miles in his wisdom gifts his true followers while he punishes the detractors by making them voice a conman racoon.

Like, I know I exaggerated a little on the end there, but the fact that I was only slightly exaggerating a little bit by saying out loud the things that most people only imply is bad in and of itself.

It's weird behavior. It's one thing to say "I don't think this piece of work is as bad as some people make it out to be" which is something I frequently find myself thinking about things like Avatar the Last Airbender, Steven Universe, other things like that. This is another thing entirely.

I wish all anti-rwde posters a very please take a break from rwby and rwby discourse to touch grass and watch other things.

Mii Lore: I Want Die

As concerning as his name is, I Want Die is a pretty cool guy. He was created by Mr Rumble Tumble Raniel Taniel Daniel RT Game on the Wii on 21 October 2018 for Wii Sports Resort.

I Want Die was created to be a mii who looks like he wants to die and not play any kind of sports. Over the years, however, I Want Die has become much more than his severe depression, having starred as the protagonist of both of RT’s Miitopia playthroughs and being somewhat of a mascot for the Rumble Tumble channel.

I Want Die has made it so far, in fact, that he is featured in multiple pieces of merchandise. Not only was he a YouTooz, but he has also been a pin badge, on multiple posters, and is now even a marketable plushie. What a life.

I Want Die is a Former Father. we don’t know who his son is.

There’s an insane amount of I Want Die lore that I couldn’t possibly write out in the time frame i have until the end of the day, so instead this is a link to the RTGame wiki so you can learn all about him. Personally, I learned he was implied to be in a relationship with Gay Obama in Miitopia (3DS), which makes me feel a little mean for that being his Round 2 fight.

If there is anything I have learned from the past month in trying to archive everything important RWBY related. It's that RWBY has a fuck official posters not even including other RT related media, like goddamn. It makes me both stressed and happy about this series it's that I've never seen a web series get this many collaborations. I almost forgot the RWBY was not only an easter egg but part of a major plot point in a feature blockbuster Doctor Sleep.

It's actually kind of sad. Not the shutdown thing, but how I'm not even the least bit sad by it.

I met some of my best friends through RT's content, one of whom I now live with and one of whom moved up to my state and is now a bus ride away. I've still got RT posters up in my apartment, and old merchandise I just haven't bothered to part with yet. Most of my old fanfics are from RT shows, with my longest fic being an RvB one.

I should feel SOME sense of sadness, but my reaction is mostly just 'Finally.' I love the people I've met through it, I love what I've created as a result of being in the fandoms I was in.

But hearing about the closure of the studio and having my first reaction be 'Finally' with absolutely ZERO sadness behind it? ...Honestly that in itself makes me a little sad.

But seriously, fuck RT. Glad I was able to make some good stuff during my time in the fandom, glad I've gotten to know so many important people in my life. But I know I've moved on if hearing about their closure doesn't bring me an OUNCE of sadness, outside of a 'That sucks for the employees' and that's it.
