The first of a short series featuring dex like description of the variants of ancient Hoenn for the merchant Emmet story (In lore they are probably written by Brendan’s ancestor on his journal)
Starting with the variants of the Joltik-Galvantula line!

Regional Jinx the pokemon shriek
It is said that this Pokémon arose from the possession of the emotions of those who died in the snows on a Jynx. The horns on its head are made of psychic energy and were highly coveted in ancient times, so this Pokémon was hunted to near extinction and generated in them a feeling of hatred towards humans.
Tumblr media
this is a line of Pokémon inspired by the Onryō, the female ghost of a woman, who turns to the physical world in search of revenge thanks to her strong feelings and the Hannya masks, masks from Japanese culture that were used in the theatre to represent a jealous demon.

Cirrus Altaria
My entry for @n0rtist 's awesome Science-inspired variant contest!
I am a massive cloud nerd and I've always wanted to do something like this for a pokemon so this was the perfect opportunity! The fact that some clouds are composed of solid ice is something I also love bringing into attention so hopefully people will be more aware of how cool Cirrus clouds are! The different parts of their body are based on different species of Cirrus too! Cirrocumulus being the main new addition trailing behind the wings, the ribbon-like antennae things being based on Cirrus uncinus, the tail feathers being based on Cirrus fibratus, and a new little scarf based on Cirrus floccus! Which also references Altaria's Mega Evolution!
It's sad removing the Flying type but Ice/Dragon is such a cool type combo so it makes up for it!
As for Abilities they'd have Cloud Nine and Snow Cloak! And they'd be able to learn Aurora Veil! Which I like to think serves as a reference to Cirrostratus and the rainbow halo effect they have when they pass under the sun!
Also I tried at first but I'm sorry Ken Sugimori idk how to do your artstyle

a regional form and evolution of sableye i sketched out cause I love these little guys!! I started drawing sableye like a little gremlin and realized they deserved to actually be turned into one and now here we are :)
The form of the evolution, who for now ive deemed Mangleye (like “mangled eye”), is dependent on the stone used to evolve it! It uses its tail as a sort of lantern to lure prey in the dark caves it lives in :)
(see below for all the stone colors)

[ID: Drawings of a possible Fairy-type Sableye regional form. The Sableye is green and grey, like stone, and has two pink glowing gemstone eyes. The tips of its ears glow pink. Its front legs are longer than the back ones, resting on all four feet while standing mostly upright. The evolution, Mangleye, has a similar body shape and color but stands larger and taller than its previous form. Its ears are longer and have moss dangling from them to the ground. Its long tail has glowing gemstones on the end which it holds in one hand like a lamp. It has one glowing gemstone eye; the other eye has been completely overtaken with shards of stone. There is a glowing spiral in the middle of its chest. The gems glow in different colors, depending on which evolution stone is used to evolve it. The secondary type varies depending on the stone used, but it always has the fairy type. /End ID.]

I made Hoennian regional variants of the Garchomp line based on its beta designs! I wanted to go for a Water (which eventually evolves into a Water/Dragon-type in its final stage) and make it slower, but physically bulkier.
I really wanted to emphasize its more aquatic nature, having it on all fours before it stands in its final stage and I had a lot of fun with this! I know regional variants weren't a thing until Gen 7, but shhhhhh. This is my canon and I get to do whatever I want with it.
Anyways, you can find Hoennian Gible by diving on Route 128 in Hoenn. It evolves the same as its Sinnoh counterpart, so I didn't feel the need to list evolution requirements.

One little concept of mine!
Hoennian (Dust Mane) Lycanroc!
― Hoennian Lycanroc evolve when a Rockruff evolves in the ashen fields close to Hoenn's volcano! They're known for walking the same path over and over again, leading to the asymmetric claws.
― They're very friendly and extremely playful despite their timid appearances. With their thin muzzle, they bite and nip at everything they can reach when they have their energy, but if any of their nips cause their trainer pain, they will immediately show their fluffy underbelly in apology.

Caught a Psychic/Bug Togepi and a Poison/Flying Geodude

Regional Spritzee, based on a poison potion and reinforcing the plague doctor's inspiration.
These small Poison type pokemon had to adapt to the large amounts of environmental pollution.Because the scent they spread was not enough to purify the air, their bodies adapted to use the toxins in their environment as sustenance, purifying the environment in exchange for being incredibly toxic.
Our exploited recommends not to embrace them unless you are resistant to poisons and/or toxins.

Was thinking about how drastically Dragonite changes from its evolutions, including its colors, and I was curious what Dratini and Dragonair would look like if they had a similar color scheme, and I felt like I could maybe make a regional variant out of it. I whipped up these quick drawings to see what the colors would look like on them and I really like how these turned out appearance wise, though I’m unsure if they look different enough to actually mimic a regional variant since I mostly just changed their colors. As for how they behave differently than their originals, I think they would be more land based than water based, perhaps residing in the desert or mountains? Not sure how Dragonite would look though.
