they said to move it closer

recently cleared out some old sketchbooks and got nostalgic for a firered nuzlocke I completed back in 2016 and never ended up doing anything with. Little redraw/quick sketch practice

A bit underleveled but this is my current team just before the Rival Fight ahead of Victory Road. Got some grinding to do, and had a lot of hardships but we made it. All 8 badges obtained.

I see why I hear FRLG being called a good first game to Nuzlocke. Just beat a hardcore Nuzlocke of LeafGreen with only four deaths (one was intentional, two were by Blue’s Kadabra/Alakazam). Compared to Platinum and certainly compared to Gen V, it’s pretty easy. God some of the game’s progression makes no sense though. I’ll probably go on a tirade about FRLG later, but here is my Elite Four team.
Dair the Venusaur
Vivzie the Ninetales
Magic Man the Alakazam
Andy V [the fifth] the Electrode
Basic Birch the Pidgeot
Transport the Lapras
The intentional death was having Andy V Explode on Champion Blue’s Charizard, bringing it to critical health for Transport to finish off with a Surf. He died as he lived: a speed demon with a tendency to totally fuck up my opponent’s Pokémon.

Back at it again with another pokemon playthrough, this time going all the way back to gen 1 and playing yellow! I had been playing this on and off again for a few years now, but finally wrapped things up a couple months ago. Those old sprites are fascinating. Similarly, I thought it would be fun to shake up the usual team drawing doing this in the original Game Boy colors!
Team stats and general gameplay info under the cut:
"Sunnie", Pikachu, Thunderbolt - Quick Attack - Double Team - Body Slam
"Frumky", Primeape, Strength - Dig - Low Kick - Rock Slide
"Spesk", Parasect, Slash - Mega Drain - Leech Life - Spore
"Memoire", Mew, Earthquake - Metronome - Surf - Psychic
"Beast", Flareon, Fire Blast - Sand-Attack - Smog - Quick Attack
"Leece", Dewgong, Headbutt - Surf - Rest - Ice Beam
General Playthrough Notes:
Gameplay total settled at nearly 20 hours! One of the shorter ones, I'd say; though, then again, there isn't really much to do in this game aside from the gyms and Team Rocket stuff.
We went in to the E4 with the whole team at level 45! Something that didn't go well in my old LeafGreen playthrough, but was perfectly fine here. The E4 wasn't that bad at all, honestly.
Kanto is not nearly good enough to deserve all the times I've played through it. I am so tired of Kanto and I'm not even done with it yet (I'm midway through a SoulSilver randomized apocalocke which, of course, has Kanto in the postgame, and I'm doing another LeafGreen run for some reason).
Okay okay so look you can see the mew on my team, I thought it'd be fun to have a mew! I missed the spots you're ideally supposed to perform the glitch in. I had just finished Cerulean City and then realized that the trainers I needed for the glitch were in that city! And I had already beaten them! I ended up using a dugtrio in diglett cave instead. It wasn't very consistent, took me a few tries, but eventually I got it.
Fun fact! At one point I was going to do a yellow nuzlocke! I ended up getting bored and realized I just wanted to play through yellow regularly, so here we are. In that run I caught Frumky though, which is actually what won me over enough to want to use her again in my actual yellow playthrough. It was actually that save where I traded with myself to get an alakazam back in my gold playthrough.
Gen 1 is so funny with how broken it is. I got so much joy in describing to my roommate all the fucked up things that were happening in-game.
Hey. Come here. Listen closely: I don't think parasect is as bad as everyone says it is. Even with the multiple x4 weaknesses in gen 1. Spesk was the mvp in a lot of fights, they packed a punch. Lovely little critter.
...Wish I could speak high praises for gen 1 flareon though. I enjoyed using Beast! But they really just don't get access to a lot of good moves. Beast had their moments, but ultimately didn't get as much screen time as I had hoped.
Similarly, dewgong? Not as good as I hoped. It really isn't quite as beefy as I had in mind. Poor thing. Again, still had fun with them on the team!
Having pikachu following me around and checking in with them whenever will never not be cute. We've been robbed of quality following pokemon in the modern games.

i have played leafgreen countless times in my life and i’m pretty sure i could beat it blindfolded with a tiny bit of practice in silph co. suffice to say it’s my most replayed pokemon game and i kinda wanna spice things up but i don’t wanna do a hc nuzlocke while i’m sick. i already play on set mode w no items in battle during casual runs but i’m considering casual level caps (no punishment for death/no nuzlocke rules) and… boxing my starter? i’ve used charizard, blastoise, and ESPECIALLY venusaur COUNTLESS times since i was 5. i might choose to have a team without them for once even tho it feels so weird to box a starter 😭

if youre looking for suggestions for future nuzlockes, ive heard leafgreen and firered are good places to start, since they have a steady difficulty curve and a decent variety of pokemon.
on the other hand you can try black and white to experience hell with exp scaling-
i was grinding so long in that game that i ended up with a shiny darmanitan,
oh my gosh haha congrats though!! i’ve heard black and white + b2w2 are some of the hardest ones up there with usum, i might have to give em a go sometime lol

What are your favorite pokemon games?
Yay, a Pokémon ask! Not sure if you only want mainline games or side games too, but I'll include both! (Sidenote: I haven't gotten to play every single game so this is just from the ones I have!)
Mainline (in order):
1. Ultra Sun - I know, I know, it should've been Sun&Moon DLC and I agree, but I just completely fell in love with this game. The environments, the Pokémon, everything! And it gave me Primarina, my absolute favorite Pokémon of all time!! I named my first Primarina Romy. I could say a lot more but I'll just keep it at that for now. 2. LeafGreen - My very first Pokémon game! I've been a fan of Pokémon pretty much since I first became conscious but never got to play the games until Gen 3. And I loved it so much!! I'm planning on doing my very first Nuzlocke with this game (whenever I can find time lol). My starter was Bulbasaur, and I named him Mamoru. 3. Alpha Sapphire - I didn't get to play the Hoenn games when they first came out, so my partner bought me the remake. It was super fun! I get why so many like Hoenn now. My starter was Torchic and I named her Sunny. My ace though ended up being my Gardevoir, Elina.
Side:
1. The Stadium games + Battle Revolution - I have so many memories playing with my siblings! My siblings and I played Stadium non-stop some days. We used to come up with our own ideas during the battle modes, like an all-legendary team, only green Pokemon, silly stuff like that. We also loved putting our D&P teams into Battle Revolution. 2. Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time - I first played this a few years ago on my partner's recommendation and LOVED it!! It was super fun and I did not expect my heart to get ripped out, damn.
Thanks for asking!

pokemon company is more focused on quarterly profits than making good games. let's go and scarvio are $50+ each. so i dug out my old copy of blaze black 2 from like 2015 and found that I had been in the middle of a nuzlocke. i boot of the file spend an hour running around castelia city and then get my ass kicked by burgh's masquerain where it double team bubblebeam swept my party. so now I have a lv ~20 finneon, patrat, and jigglypuff. i hate grinding. run is so dead. maybe I'll keep going and allow healing but only be allowed to use the last 6 pokemon i caught or something. actually that'd be better for a black/white 1 run since that's what N does.
oh hey wait jiggly puff might actually be useful. I'm still not grinding.
AAAAAAAIDUFHJKN.WE. tried that fight again just because and it literally comes down to double team luck. if I land 1 flame burst through 1 double team magmar sweeps. if it miss that one flame burst masquerain sweeps. ah well i guess this isn't a nuzlocke anymore. but this is only the 3rd gym. maybe i will do that last 6 pkmn on blakc/white 1
really if nintendo released the old games cartriges like firered/leafgreen, platinum, heartgold/soulsilver they could make a good amount of money

I'm thinking a future Nuzlocke (based on poll results)...
Monika, Sayori, Natsuki, and Yuri do a randomizer Nuzlocke together. Game is Pokemon Leafgreen (because Monika loves the color green, and, well, Rock is already doing a romp through Hoenn, so Emerald is out for now).
To account for this and make sure they all have individual teams, the first 4 pokemon encountered would be allowed to be caught per route. (1 for each Doki.)
If anyone wants to see this, gimme a hell yeah!

I embarked on a LeafGreen hardcore Nuzlocke despite just beating Volkner in my Platinum hardcore run. I wish someone could explain to me why my brain works the way it does. Anyway here was my team after Misty. That Starmie is no joke.
