#im browsing apartments just outta curiosity rn because ive been thinking about my future and all that #ive got a friend and we're thinking about becoming roommates and getting an apartment together until we get our shit figured out as - #- Official Adults™ so im just figuring out what you should be looking for in an apartment #rent is surprisingly low compared to a lot of other capital cities so im happy about that #there's a nice loft apartment that's $1400 for a two bed apartment. which is still expensive but its a lot less than most places rn #plus its got plenty of amenities #utilities included. in-unit washer/dryer. lots of community areas. well maintained. bike storage and repair station. well maintained. #its on the outskirts of downtown too so its still super close to everything that has to offer but its not crazy loud #the only major downside on first glance is that it looks like sound carries REALLY well through the rooms which.... is an issue #i need privacy man :')) #it looks really cool though #they have a community spot where local musicians perform on friday nights and according to the reviews the building owners are really nice #idk if there will still be spots there when we decide to move in together but it looks like a solid option #we'd be splitting the rent 50/50 so it'll make things more manageable price-wise

“Oh here,” he smiles, holding the door open for you that leads into the stairs to the basement.

“I’m actually not going to the laundry room,” you smile politely but tightly.

“You sure?” his brows quirk behind his curly bangs, brown eyes landing on the laundry in your arm.

“I’m sure,” you nod, “I’m going up the street.”

“Why?” he asks, lifting his full laundry bag higher up his shoulder, “There’s laundry in the building.”

“Eh, when your panties start going missing you stop wanting to use the amenity,” you shrug, “Plus, you’re not gonna find one washer open down there right now.”

“And you are? It’s Sunday — peak laundry day,” he counters. You chuckle, shaking your head — it only makes him more intrigued.

“Maybe downstairs,” you shrug, “You new to the neighborhood or something?”

“Seven months.”

“Hmm,” you nod, “Well, if you didn’t notice yet - lot of churches over here. And if time serves me right, church starts around 9 and runs until 10; sometimes 11.”

Your head tilts toward the clock on the yellowed walls of the hallway, “So, 9:15 is the perfect time to go.”

“No way,” he grins, “I don’t know if I buy it.”

“Don’t take my word for it. Everyone’s at church and everyone who isn’t is probably hung over,” you explain, “You wanna come and see for yourself? Washers are weirdly better over there anyway.”

He looks at the stairs and then at you, then at the clock, and the rainy weather outside. The elevator dings, two people walking by with laundry bags to head down the stairs.

With a sigh, he accepts the fate, “Alright, you got me.”

You both venture out into the soft mist of a dark gray Sunday morning, your IKEA bag of dirty laundry weighing heavy on your shoulder.

“Seventh months, huh? Welcome.”

“Thanks. What about you?”

“Ten years,” you laugh, “Not in this building, this is year three. But I’ve been in the area a while.”

“Cool,” he smiles, “I never see you around.”

“I live on the first floor, so our chances of an elevator meet cute are pretty slim,” you pull at the bag again while you turn the corner, he follows suit.

“Oh true, I’m on four.”

“Jealous. Good sun?”

“Yeah,” he smirks bashfully, “Like, really good.”

“That’s good. Though, it’s a good compromise for sharing a floor with Mrs. Slattery.”

“I really thought I was on her good side,” he turns back when he realizes he’s a few steps ahead, “Three weeks in she saw me in a Dio shirt, came home to a cross on my door.”

“She is…” you roll your eyes, crossing the street to the laundromat on the corner, “Easily the most god fearing Catholic I’ve ever met. And I’ve met a lot.”

You both make your way through the door, loose on its hinges. It’s a dilapidated place, and there’s a better laundromat two more blocks down, but you’re used to this now. The owner in the corner with her earbuds in, listening to gospel while she works on wash and folds. An older man with four bags of clothing on the other side, bedding for the family.

“You weren’t kidding,” he observes the emptiness, putting his laundry over an unused washing machine. There were plenty available for the taking.

“I know,” you murmur while you load your own machine - your favorite one. Row three, four washers down. Medium sized.

He gets to work too, the hardware on his wallet chain and leather jacket jingle like change in the pockets he pulls out of his jeans and sweatpants before he tosses them in to be washed.

Locked and loaded, he stands next to you, “Do you just go back home and come back to switch?”

“I stay for the wash,” you explain, “And then once I switch, there’s a café another block over that I’ve been going to for a while. Normally get breakfast while I wait for my clothes to dry. They have the best fucking biscuits.”

“Okay, okay, I hear that,” he grins, lower lip tucking into his teeth while he pulls his frizzing curls up into a bun at the back of his head, “Mind if I join you?”

“Nah, I don’t mind,” you take a seat on one of the cracked plastic chairs against the windows walls where he follows suit, “Been here almost a year…have you like, explored the neighborhood at all?”

“Honestly?” he holds his shoulders up by his ears with a hint of embarrassment, “Not really. Hate doing shit like that alone.”

“Do you not have friends?” you ask, realizing how accidentally mean it sounds as it comes out. He laughs anyway, heartily.

“Some, not around this area though,” he finishes out with a chuckle.

“Well, I’ll show you the café, there’s a lot of stuff over there that’s pretty cool,” you assure, checking the clock.

“I believe you. I’m not in a position to be saying no to friends in the neighborhood.”

“Good,” you smile, not even caring that you look exactly how you did when you rolled out of bed this morning.

“But if the biscuits are bad, it’s over,” he teases in faux seriousness. Denim leg crossing over the other, Vans now a grey and black from the weather outside.

“You’re gonna be more mad at me over how good they are,” you cross your legging’d legs to match his posture.

“You better hope so,” he huffs playfully, “I’m Eddie by the way.”

“Eddie,” you repeat back, introducing yourself, “Nice to meet you.”

“I’m glad we didn’t have our meet cute on the elevator,” Eddie smiles, “This is much more fun.”

A Review Of The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro SUV

An auto reviewer spent a week with the crème de la crème of the Tiggo SUVs - the Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

In terms of design and overall appeal, Chery is indeed very different from what I've initially become accustomed to. This is no longer a basic econobox, but a crossover with a lot of bells and whistles. The Tiggo 8 Pro is a follow-up to the Tiggo 8 from two years ago, but the significant changes outside made it look like it's a completely new model.At first glance, the Tiggo 8 Pro definitely has a more upscale look than the standard Tiggo 8. There's a lot less going on now with its front fascia, while it's earned its own bling-bling with the “Sunshine Galaxy” grille that has those shiny rectangular elements and the diamond mesh first seen in the Tiggo 7 Pro.At the back, the revised taillights give somewhat of a European vibe to it with its faux diffuser and its two neatly-shaped functional exhaust tips. Compared to Chery's other models, the Tiggo 8 Pro is the only crossover that has the word C H E R Y spelt on it instead of the usual badge. Perhaps this is the manufacturer's way of saying that this is indeed their flagship model.When you look at it from the side, the Tiggo 8 Pro has a body shape that accentuates the added passenger and cargo room from the B-pillar onwards, which somewhat reminds me of how Hyundai did it with the third-generation Grand Santa Fe. Being the higher-spec model, the Tiggo 8 Pro also sports a panoramic glass roof like the standard Tiggo 8.While I'm not a fan of chrome, I really like how the katana-shaped trim adds to the car's luxury appeal and how it blends into those stylish 18-inch wheels. It's not out of place compared to those you see in car accessory shops in Banawe or on your favourite online shopping app, so kudos to Chery for coming up with a well-thought-out design for its exterior.Once you press the unlock button and finish the ensuing LED light dance, the Tiggo 8 Pro welcomes you to an interior you'll normally see in vehicles with significantly higher price tags. The standard Tiggo 8 had black leather, but the Pro's got more flair with the brown upholstery. It's a major interior flex, to say the least, and you might not want to put on dark-coloured window films for this one.Getting in and out of the Tiggo 8 Pro is a relatively easy task thanks to the low ride height and large doors for the first two rows. There are plenty of premium amenities in front like power seats with heating/cooling and memory function on the driver side, plus butterfly headrests like those seen in Range Rovers.The dashboard follows a three-screen layout – one for the instrument cluster, the other for the infotainment system, and the third one for climate control settings. The 12.3-inch instrument cluster has digits instead of dials for the speedometer and tachometer and can be configured through the steering wheel controls to get vehicle information like maintenance alerts and fuel economy figures.Meanwhile, the touchscreen infotainment system has Apple CarPlay, but it doesn't have Android Auto. Android users can opt for the QD Link, or just connect via Bluetooth. Other than that, the infotainment screen displays the 360-degree camera that comes in really handy when parking the large crossover, plus the settings for the driver assistance systems.All three screens have crisp displays, albeit with some very minor nuances in the language of the interface. While it's good that it still has toggle switches to control the A/C settings, I wasn't particularly impressed with the choice of material on the piano's black centre console. The unit I drove only had about 5,000 km on it, but it does get scratched easily. Maybe Chery can come up with a screen protector for it, or you know, do it the typical Filipino car owner way – not removing the peel-off plastic.The same goes for the placing of the wireless charging pad underneath the centre console, which is not so convenient for the front passenger. Placing it just between the auto brake hold button and the armrests, at the expense of the cupholder, could have made more sense, ergonomically.The second-row seats get their own A/C vents plus a single USB charger, and the centre armrests are equipped with cupholders. The panoramic glass roof extends all the way there and helps heighten the ambience. There's no driveshaft bulge in the middle as the Tiggo 8 Pro is front-wheel-drive, and there's plenty of headroom and legroom for my 5'9” frame.While the first two rows feel like first and business class, the third-row seats, like any other crossover in this segment, feel like economy class due to their limited head and legroom. Provided it has nice headrests and A/C vents on the side, the third-row seats are best left for children or smaller adults.With the third-row seats folded flat, the Tiggo 8 Pro easily swallowed our luggage and camera gear when we used it for a weekend trip outside Metro Manila. Loading stuff at the back was made convenient by the power tailgate and the low floor.The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro uses a 1.6-litre T-GDI (Turbocharged Gasoline Direct Injection) engine that puts out 43 kW and 290 Nm of torque paired to a 7-speed wet-type dual-clutch transmission. Our last review of the standard Tiggo 8 with the 1.5-litre turbo had adequate power for its size – now this one's more powerful. But it's not just about the power we're after, but how it drives.So how did it feel behind the wheel of the Tiggo 8 Pro?For starters, the Tiggo 8 Pro is a relatively big crossover, so don't expect a hatchback or a subcompact crossover-like agility with this one. Power is available on tap, but it's more of a smooth cruiser that's great for a relaxing and comfortable highway drive. Chery tuned the suspension more on the comfort side while remaining stable and composed towards bumps and road imperfections even at highway speeds. There's a very minimal effort with the steering wheel with how light it is, and the cabin is very quiet.I must admit I wasn't initially confident with the braking power of the Tiggo 8 Pro since it had a longer pedal journey compared to the cars I've driven before, but spending a few more days driving the crossover eventually got me used to it.The dual-clutch transmission feels smooth, though it could get jerky at times when you're trying to get going on an incline. A good hill hold function would fix that. I was also a bit surprised that there were only two driving modes – Eco and Sport, which leaves me wanting a middle ground between the two. Eco mode is great for saving fuel as it always wants to go to the highest gear possible and minimize revs, but at the expense of responsiveness when you need to kick down a gear when overtaking. On the other hand, the Sport mode really holds the gears to maximize power, but of course, that means you're sipping more fuel than normal.Speaking of fuel economy, the Tiggo 8 Pro's figures are what you would expect from a typical large crossover. I did 8.3 km/l in the city and 13 km/l on the highway. But with its fuel tank capacity only limited to 51 litres, you'll see the gas gauge going down faster than what the numbers suggest. Perhaps Chery could have fitted a larger fuel tank for the Tiggo 8 Pro, as the crossover really felt great to drive on long-distance trips.When it comes to its advanced driver assist features like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and motorcycle alert, it's been configured to keep you very safe, but perhaps perform too sensitively. The car would turn its hazard lights on for every passing motorcycle which is good, but it can get bothersome at times. Not to mention, the lane-keep assist could use a bit more refinement. A software tweak or update could probably address these.Chery's return to the Philippine market has been nothing short of a success as the entire initial inventory of the Tiggo 8 Pro has already sold out. It's a product of all the years Chery worked on their cars to step out of the shadows of their not-so-stellar past.With better consumer brand awareness, the warranty only sweetens the deal on the already attractive price tag considering the luxury amenities the crossover is packing. The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro is at the price point of base variant Japanese PPV-SUVs and within the range of B and C-segment 5-seater Japanese crossovers. Savoy Hotel Boracay Opens Its Doors Once Again in Boracay Newcoast

Now that the pandemic is finally over, Bocaray island is back as being one of the best tourist spots in the world. We had a very fun weekend trip to Boracay last week as we rediscovered this “hidden” spot where you can get a private picnic by the beach with the Boracay Keyhole as your enchanting backdrop. Thanks to Boracay Newcoast, this pristine location is now easily accessible to travelers without having to spend too much of your budget.

As we get back on our travel feet, Savoy Hotel Boracay in Boracay Newcoast has finally reopened its doors after a brief hiatus during the last two years. Savoy Boracay opened in 2017, part of Megaworld Hotels and Resorts’ portfolio of regional hotels featuring 100% Filipino homegrown brands. The Hungry Kat was invited for a three-day, two-night vacation at Savoy Boracay to sample the amenities and all the island activities you can do in this private enclave.

Our experience actually started right at the Caticlan Airport where we were picked up for our private transfers to Savoy Boracay. Guests can arrange these land and sea transfers with the hotel for a flat fee and everything will be taken care of right until you are brought to the hotel lobby.

Savoy Boracay features 559 beautifully-decorated rooms which offer an embodiment of high island living standards. The hotel features 4 room types that offer the perfect spot for cooling down and relaxing after a day out in the sun. Best of all, room rates at Savoy Boracay are quite affordable with rates starting at just around P4000+ a night.

We stayed at their 55-square meter Executive Suite which is a fitting choice for those who enjoy lavish space. This corner suite comes with a queen-sized bed that opens up to fantastic views of the neighboring Fairways and Bluewater golf course or the Newport Beach.

We were given welcome drinks at the lobby as well as these chocolate treats inside our suite. These are highly appreciated especially after a long journey. We even got this cute stuffed toy which I gladly brought back home with me.

The Executive Suite comes with a separate living area which comes with its own LED TV and also its own bathroom. That’s plenty of room and space especially if you have kids and family together. A refrigerator plus coffee and tea making facilities are also available inside the living room.

A great feature of Savoy Boracay is that all the rooms come with their own private balcony so you can enjoy the fresh air and the fantastic views around Boracay Newcoast. This expansive property on the other side of Boracay is a prestigious new development from Megaworld Corporation and Global Estate Resorts offering a different experience of the island, farther from the busy crowds and resorts at White Beach.

There are many activities and places to see inside the hotel and around Boracay Newcoast. Savoy Boracay offers several complimentary tours around the neighborhood including a visit to the nearby Keyhole Boracay. Access to the beautiful Cove beaches and use of kayak and paddle boards are also included. Savoy Boracay is also just next door to Belmont Boracay, which we visited last year, so you have two hotels to choose from for your stay at Boracay Newcoast.

Of course, there are plenty of things to do within the hotel itself. There’s a foosball machine right at the lobby to welcome guests. You can also schedule other island activities around Boracay at the tourist desk here.

Gym buffs can hang out at the Fitness Center on the lower ground floor. They also offer massages and body treatments at the Lila Spa beside the gym.

The main highlight of Savoy Boracay is that they don’t just have one, but two huge pools right in the middle of the hotel. Take a dip with the family or take some gorgeous photos by the bridge.

On the other side is the Party Pool where you can enjoy a splashing good time with your friends. Enjoy the sun while relaxing at the pool lounges or take a nap inside one of the cabanas.

In the evenings, the party pool takes on a different vibe and ambiance. Grab some cocktails at the Chambery Pool Bar while enjoying the night sky. They even have foam pool parties during weekends.

While Boracay Newcoast may be a bit far from the main Boracay beaches, guests staying at Savoy can easily get to D’Mall in Station 2 along White Beach through the complimentary shuttle services offered by the hotel. Just reserve your seats at the front desk and join the scheduled trips.

Our room also comes with daily buffet breakfast for two at Savoy Cafe on the ground floor from 6:00am to 10:00am. Savoy Cafe offers several culinary options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in casual and special dining concepts. It also offers private room dining and an open kitchen showcase.

You can sit wherever you like inside the bright and spacious restaurant. It also offers views of the Savoy pool just outside.

We started our breakfast with some breads and pastries. There is also a salad bar for those who like to start their mornings on a healthy note.

Cereals and fresh milk are available together with juices and hot coffee for refreshments.

I always like having eggs and omelette for breakfast so I had one prepared for me at the Egg Station. Here you can also find some pancakes plus ham and egg sandwiches.

Filipinos like their breakfasts heavy so Savoy also prepares rice and viands for their guests. There were several dishes to go along with our fried rice including fish fillet, bratwurst, orange chicken, baked beans, chopseuy, pancit, and more.

For desserts, we enjoyed some mini chocolate cakes to go along with puto, fruits, and other delicacies.

The best place to visit at Boracay Newcoast is their very own Newcoast Beach which offers a fantastic view of the Boracay Keyhole. At the center of this one-kilometer white beach is an expansive grand plaza called Newcoast Station where you can find food stalls, tables, day beds, and other activities to do. There’s also a daily happy hour at the Newcoast Beach Bar from 3:00pm to 5:00pm where guests can get 50% off on their favorite cocktail drinks.

The beach itself offers a calmer and more tranquil side of Boracay. This area is actually open to the public but is mostly accessible to guests staying at the hotels in the area. We even saw a beach wedding happening right here during our stay. It’s just a short walk from Savoy and Belmont Boracay so we headed here early one morning for a totally unique experience.

Savoy Boracay presented us with a private Sunrise Picnic by the beach just for the two of us. Instead of the usual breakfast at the cafe, they prepared this set breakfast for two with this stunning backdrop.

We enjoyed a sumptuous selection of beef tapa, danggit, sausages, bacon, potatoes, pancakes, donuts, cinnamon rolls, and fruits together with hot chocolate. We’ve never had a picnic by the beach before so this was such a memorable moment for us. Guests at Savoy Boracay can also experience this Sunrise Picnic for themselves starting March 15 for only P1300 per person.

We couldn’t leave this beautiful location without taking a few more Instagram-worthy photos. It’s like having your very own private resort in Boracay without having to spend a lot. You should also make sure to get a closer look at The Keyhole. This natural rock formation is a majestic sight to behold from the beach cove, but it gets even better when you see it up close.
