Disclaimer: The reason why I don't ask indie stores directly if I can post their items beforehand is simply because I don't have the time. Imo I don't think it's necessary either, no store has asked me to take a poll down so far.

FYI for any artist out there who has drawn fan art for any of SJM's work, @/subliminallysatisfactorysuzy has been reposting fan art without credit and permission. @vivictory-draws was kind enough to tag and notify me that my artwork had been reposted. (Screenshot of reposted art under the cut.) I messaged Suzy privately requesting that my art be reblogged instead of reposted without credit, but received no response and consequently filed a DMCA notice.

I am trying to message any artist whose work has been reposted to notify them that their art has been reposted, but I need help for some of the works that do not have obvious/legible signatures. Here is a link to their Tumblr. Please do NOT harass this user, simply notify the artist if you can identify their work and inform them that they should file a DMCA Copyright Notification *if* they want their reposted artwork removed. (They may not care a jot! Who knows!)

Would love if you could tell me what the stolen art is so I can remove it?

If i ever reblog stolen art please assume that i have no idea it is stolen because I usually try not to do that. Same goes for AI art. Literally not a clue how to tell sometimes even though I try my best to reblog things that I know are posted by the original artist or at least post credit to the original artist (the latter is only if art is not available from the original artist on tumblr itself)

If you’re referring to the fanart that just posted from my queue, i was under the impression that because it does credit the original artist that it’s fine, and stolen fanart is when someone reposts without crediting the original artist or giving any indication that the art is not theirs or even just saying “credit to original artist” without finding and linking them would be considered stolen. I am also not an artist so would love to know if that etiquette is wrong!

This is something I've seen people doing even though it says on every one of my docs that redistributing is STEALING, I don't want this to come off as too aggressive and I'm sure you mean well but this is for everyone else, if you purchase a doc from me or any other creator, that doc is only meant to be used by YOU.

THIS IS STEALING

LETTING SOMEONE MAKE A COPY OF MY DOC FROM YOUR SINGLE PURCHASE IS STEALING USING ONE OF MY DOCS AS A SERVER TEMPLATE OR GROUP TEMPLATE IS STEALING

It is always stealing, has always been stealing. That is what redistributing is. You are giving other people my paid doc. The price of $5 is PER PERSON, while yes, that one person can use it for multiple of their own characters, they cannot give it to a friend, a server, ANYONE. Giving someone the link to my doc or letting them make a copy off of yours is stealing. If you would like a server template version of any of my docs, you can contact me for a commission but that will be at commission prices. I spend upwards of 16 hours on a single doc. If one person can just purchase it and give it to 100 people, that means I make $5 when I could have made $500 and making $5 for 16 hours of work is devastating. ANY DOC YOU HAVE PURCHASED mine or otherwise:

To prevent people from making copies of your docs - select the blue SHARE button in the top right corner of your doc - hit the settings gear on the right corner of the pop-up - UNCHECK the box that says "Viewers and commenters can see the option to download, print, and copy"

On every doc you have. Also, don't use free docs as server docs either without asking the creator of that free doc - if they don't give you permission in their post. Always DM them first and assume it's not okay. A lot of times, when people use free docs for servers, they remove the creator's credit. To prevent this, ask. If you are currently a server using my template, please reach out to me in DMs and remove the doc immediately. If you know of a server/group/collection of friends that are and can provide, proof, a link, a means to contact them, I will give you a free doc for helping me prevent further theft. We all love seeing great new docs being made, stealing from doc creators will stop the creation of new docs. It's disheartening and I've seen many doc creators give up because of it. If you love and support the community, speak out against theft always and help the artists. Please like and reblog to get this message out there because the amount of times I've seen my friends sad is really starting to hurt.

PSA from a fandom con photographer

As some of you know, I'm a con photographer. A while back, a bunch of us joined a group chat together, and we talk about all things cons and photography in there. Recently, the subject of photo theft has come up again, but this time a new comment was made and that's why I'm here.

In the past, I've heard photographers express frustration about people reposting our photos with watermarks cropped out or otherwise removed. Sometimes, these photos are edited further and someone else's watermark slapped on top of it. This is disrespectful, at best, and really offends the original photographer. Usually, this is done in an effort to gain clout online, and not for any artistic reasons. This is not what I'm here to talk about.

I know that a lot of folks on Tumblr use con photos for fic headers and aesthetics and such, especially for RPF fics. (Because we can totally tell whether a photo is Jensen or Dean, even with the background edited out, he's just that good.) It's come to my attention that some photographers would be REALLY uncomfortable with their art being used this way. They don't read fic, they don't understand it, or they just don't want their art used in a way that misinterprets the moment captured in the photo, even if it's fiction.

We need to respect this.

How do we feel when someone reblogs our fics and uses it to prop up an argument about our characters that we disagree with? We feel kinda shitty. That's how photographers feel when their photos are used in ways they weren't consulted about.

How do we fix this?

When you search Google and find an image from a con, do a reverse lookup on that image and AT LEAST TRY to find the original photographer. If the photo has been taken in the last year or so, you can come to me and see if I know who took it, too.

Ask that photographer if they are okay with you using their image in the way you intend. I know this is a pain, but remember how you'd feel if someone used your art without asking permission!

Many times, if you ask, the answer will be yes. Sometimes, it may be no. Please respect the answer you receive.

If you honestly try and can't find the photographer, then at least put a comment captioning this on the post where you use the photo. If you make a good faith effort and express this in your caption, that at least lets us know that you tried.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask me!

Personal note from me: If you like any of my photos, you are welcome to use them. I know I don't make the best photos in the fandom, so this isn't much, but it's there.

Also, "credit to Google" or "I found this on Google" is not credit. Google does not create images. Google only indexes them.

Just remember that there is a person behind every image and piece of art you find on Google.

Also, if you don't contact the artist/photographer, how does that person know that you liked their work? They don't. This is the same as if someone reads your fic but doesn't hit the heart or reblog it. Personally, I LOVE getting asked about my photos the same way I love hearing feedback on my fics. Let your photographer know you love their work!

I've been asked about screen grabs and gifs. I'm referencing just those photos taken by people at cons. Screengrabs and gifs also take talent to create, so if you can find out who made them and give them credit, that's awesome. Photos taken from the star's Twitter or IG....that's a good question. Credit would go to them, but they are impossible to ask if they mind. An argument could also be made that they know what might happen to any photo they put out there. (Maybe put a link to the original as credit?)

It was only recently that I saw someone comment about their photo being used to apply a narrative to Jensen based on his facial expression in the photo, and a brief mention of fic happened right after that, and I just got the feeling that certain photographers would not be pleased to know how we use their photos, sometimes.

As far as I know, no photographer has found their photo in a fic header and complained. But based on what was said, if they did, they might not be happy. And not just because most photos used in a fic header end up being further edited to make it work with the header, beyond cropping. For instance, an asexual photographer might feel icky about their photo being used as a header for a smut fic.

TL;DR - Credit your photographers in your headers, edits, and mood boards when at all possible. Make the effort to contact them and ask for permission. Some may give you blanket permission as I have. Some may not. Either way, this is their art that you're manipulating, so please respect it.

Beast Drive is an inclusive space made for fans from all walks of life with respect to unique personal identities. To be explicitly clear, this blog is run in support of and makes room for marginalized people who are frequently pushed out of fandom and gaming spaces.

Image Sourcing

Beast Drive only accepts images that you have made yourself or that you have express permission from the creator to let me host. This is to ensure there is no accidental theft or misattributed credit. If there are any images posted in error, please let me know and I will remove them immediately!

Please also be respectful of non-English speaking artists. Many of them do not want their artwork hosted externally, even when given proper credit. Let's respect their wishes.

I'd really like to use this space as a sort of community hub to spotlight other Bloody Roar creatives! Some things I've considered implementing are art and writing challenges through weekly or monthly prompts to inspire thought about the series.

So…I was originally planning to sell this old adopt of mine at a much lower price, but one of my good friends recently got scammed when commissioning an artist to make a gift for a friend of hers, and I want to help her get her money back. She lost $30 from the initial payment, so the base bidding price for this adopt will be $30 USD, and the autobuy (if you don’t want to risk bidding) will be $50.

If a bid is placed in comments, reblogs, asks, or DMs, a 48 hour wait period will be held between the first bid and the closing time if no other bids are recieved, to give others time to put in bids.

When closing time is reached or if you are interested in autobuy, I will DM you with my friend’s PayPal.me link to send the money to, and once she confirms having recieved it, I will send you the full-quality, non-watermarked image of this character, along with the original old artwork.

This is an original design for me and is NOT AI.

Rules for purchase:

When you purchase this adopt, you receive the rights to her as your OC (original character); the original images of her by me still belong to myself and if you use or repost them anywhere, you are to credit me for it and not remove my signature(s), but other than this, you may use, alter, draw, rename, and write about the character as much you please without the need to credit me, other than for her original design.

You may not resell the character for at least 6 months after purchase, and if you do resell her, you still must credit me for her original design and pictures.

Refunds are not accepted once the art and character has been passed over to you.

I reserve the right to draw her again in the future (for personal purposes) or create similar designs and concepts for other characters.

RULES:

reading my blacklist and sources is much appreciated before making a request although it isn't a big deal if you don't!

please check out my tumblr page before ordering! it has extremely vital points and keys that you must respect!

if ever you are unsure if I can do a specific graphic, check with me. i can do a lot of graphics but I am only one person running this blog.

multiple request are allowed by only limited to two per ask. per person you have a maximum of ten asks (doesn't matter if there is two requests in or not) with at least 24 hours; once you pass those ten orders you become a vip and if ever you make an order you will immediately be passed first as a priority!

when making a request, I have very simple rules:

if you include a faceclaim please include the tv show / anime / videogame / movie etc... that they are part of.

if you just tell me to follow a certain aesthetic and do not include a faceclaim I will do just that, just tell me if you want an image of a person or not.

you must include a color / -core / aesthetic / a word that I will follow. you may, as well, tell me to tarot read your request and I will draw inspiration from the tarot card drawn.

you have to say please or thank you when ordering or it'll be ignored.

specify flags when ordering pride icons.

specify whether you want them to be filtered or not and if so what color.

manga edits are welcome but I will assume that you mean manga icons until you tell me that you want a comic strip to be edited.

when asking for icons with a title please specify a font. if you don't know what font you would prefer, give me a vague indication like: italic or bold or vintage or loopy.

specify what shape you want them to be. if you do not, they will be square.

when ordering wallpapers, I beg of you, please tell me the dimensions :sob:

anons are welcomed just as much as already made accounts, however if you are an anon please tell how you would like to be referred as.

i would be eternally grateful if you did not steal my icons and graphics. those take a long time to make and stealers are regarded unkindly upon. if you do appreciate them, a like and / or a reblog would be the best thing!

RE: GSHADE MALWARE DISCOURSE

They locked the channels down, but I managed to grab some screenshots of the conversation shown in the crucially lacking in context Twitter screens. I'll share the screens in a reblog because Tumblr keeps breaking when I add them.

So, we all hate art theft, right? We hate when people use our or others' hard work even in bits and pieces (like AI art training) without any credit to us or the artists? We hate when people say "it's online so NYEH" when an artist asks people to respect their work, right? Okay, good.

Gshade is an "improved" version of the Reshade overlay program that makes it super easy to adjust, make, and switch between presets in the game, as well as simplifies the installation process, and adds a few extra features.

However, there was some Twitter outcry about a week ago due to how updates work in Gshade (which was, admittedly, annoying). Another dev decided to break GShade's EULA regarding assets usage because they didn't like some of Gshades functions like the updates.

In my own, personal opinion, both parties aren't great people. If you read the other person's blog post on all this, it's riddled with cockiness and your garden variety internet kid arrogance and seems to boil down to "I don't like Gshade, it sucks, I can do better." They link an archived Twitter where a popular preset creator politely asks for their presets to not be used for this project, they push back against this creator's request, the creator makes a vague and innacurate legal reference in an attempt to try and convince this dev "hey, I said don't use my stuff". The dev mocks this person in their blog post claiming that they're allowed to use the presets because they're in a GitHub repository.

In order to prevent plagiarism of any of Gshade's assets (INCLUDING the presets themselves), the dev added a "killswitch" essentially that, when any attempts were made to access Gshade, its installer, presets, etc without the dev or preshade creators' knowledge or permission, would cause a force-restart. For anyone who doesn't really use Gshade- I feel the need to add that some presets use original art assets and overlays so it isn't just people playing around with sliders. This is actual art that some artists have politely requested doesn't get re-used elsewhere without permission. And no- this isn't like major game companies like Ubisoft implementing DRM, which in context is about big rich corporations trying to prevent piracy. This is like online game anti-cheat software except instead of bans you get a restart.

You cannot trigger this force-restart with Gshade on normal use, it will ONLY happen when trying to run something that accesses and utilizes Gshade or its assets (again, including people's presets). Likewise, from the sounds of it, the killswitch was already regretted and removed in a patch on Saturday- two days before this whole thing blew up today- and it was changed to a line of code that just closes the program.

There is nothing within Gshade which will harm or remain on your computer. There are no keyloggers, other spyware, covert mining, or anything else that remains on someone's computer with the express purpose of doing harm to it. While you can argue semantics here, imo "Program does bad thing if you go out of your way to use it improperly" isn't "malware" or else World of Warcraft and any other online game with an anti-cheat could also be considered Malware.

If you don't want to use Gshade because of the moral implications of the dev taking such a grandiose measures, that's a personal choice. It's 100% understandable to see this as a breech of trust-

-but please stop spreading word that the app intentionally has Malware intended to affect the common user. This was literally an anti-theft measure taken way overboard. To summarize: -Cocky dev personally dislikes some of Gshade's functions and wants to make their own version of it, but use Gshade assets including presets (some of which contain original art) they don't have permission to use using the same busted "well it's on the internet" logic people use to justify art theft and plagiarism. -Gshade devs try to stop this, other dev self-admittedly "trolls" them for a while and ignores preset artists saying "hey I don't consent to using my stuff". -Gshade dev includes a line of code to force-restart the PC of anyone who tries to access any Gshade assets, specifically to fight back against this user. Regrets it and removes it. -Two days after its removal, word gets out that Gshade has this force-restart command. -Gshade dev admits in the Discord that yes, this command was in there briefly. A single screenshot of this admission makes it to Twitter, and the entire program is branded as Malware.

I'll repeat again, neither side was perfect in this, and to add such a harsh command line even if it was targeted at one person in particular was a gross misuse of power. It's perfectly understandable to not want to use Gshade anymore if you don't trust the program, but it's also important to release this overstep wasn't made purely in impulse, and was an attempt to stop someone who was actively trying to disrespect artists and preset designers. I think that's the huge part of all this that's being missed and it's resulting in a lot of people zero'ing in on the Gshade dev and Discord mods as if they're the defacto villains in all this and need to be harassed and ousted from the community.
