Over the course of the time they had been getting to know each other as friends, she’d started growing accustomed to a certain amount of physical contact. Red was very clearly a cuddler, seeming almost starved for physical affection. (If she were honest with herself, she’d admit that she, too, might have been just a little touch-starved.) What she hadn’t been expecting, however, was for Red to reach out one time when she was passing by to sit beside him on the couch, instead guiding her to sit on his lap.

Startled, it took her a moment to settle, before she shifted to look at her Soulmate friend, arching an eyebrow at him. “What was that for?” she asked, confusion and bemusement and perhaps a tiny touch of embarrassment in her expression and tone.
