how does oikawa celebrate christmas

Even as much of a workaholic he is, I feel like Christmas is the one time he really would find a way to be off.

Growing up, it was a pretty big deal with his family so he would carry the same sentiment as he grew older. He’s the person that right after Halloween, he’s already blasting Christmas music and has all his lights up. Also, probably one of the best gift givers. He’s so observant and remembers everything so well like even the tiniest detail you’ve mentioned he’ll have it saved somewhere. And he’ll pull through with stuff you didn’t think anyone had even noticed.

But enough but about that, how he celebrates Christmas has slightly changed over the years. At first, he would just celebrate with a small dinner at home with friends if he can. You know, open presents in the morning with his cats. It would just be a more private, quiet, and calm affair until he experienced his first Christmas in Argentina. That’s where he learnt about how they celebrate Christmas and he’s loved it ever since. He loves how it’s not just family but all of the extended family gathered together to eat Christmas dinner on the 24th. How fireworks go off at midnight and everyone opens up gifts then too. How most of his friends and their families stay up just chatting or playing games until the early hours of Christmas day. He has just absolutely fallen in love with the idea of Christmas just being such a big, joyous and welcoming occasion.

Now, he tries to incorporate that into his own celebrations when he’s back home in Japan by inviting over his friends, teammates, and family (if they can make it) on Christmas Eve for a giant party! He sets off fireworks with his nieces and nephews and even helped plan a whole secret santa exchange for all his friends and for all the kids too. And then just spends the rest of the night eating, drinking, and sharing stories and laughs until the sun almost rises.
