A marker pen, fine liner, marking pen, felt-tip pen, felt pen, flow marker, sign pen (in South Korea), vivid (in New Zealand), flomaster (in Russia), texta (in Australia), sketch pen (in South Asia), koki (in South Africa) or simply marker is a pen which has its own ink source and a tip made of porous, pressed fibers such as felt. A marker pen consists of a container (glass, aluminum or plastic) and a core of an absorbent material that holds the ink. The upper part of the marker contains the nib that was made in earlier times of a hard felt material, and a cap to prevent the marker from drying out.
Until the early 1990s, the most common solvents that were used for the ink in permanent markers were toluene and xylene. These two substances are both harmful and characterized by a very strong smell. Today, the ink is usually made on the basis of alcohols (e.g. 1-Propanol, 1-butanol, diacetone alcohol and cresols).
Markers may be waterproof, dry-erase, wet-erase (e.g. transparency markers), or permanent.
History Lee Newman patented a felt-tipped marking pen in 1910. In 1926, Benjamin Paskach patented a "fountain paintbrush", as he called it, which consisted of a sponge-tipped handle containing various paint colors. Markers of this sort began to be popularized with the sale of Sidney Rosenthal's Magic Marker (1953), which consisted of a glass tube of ink with a felt wick. By 1958, use of felt-tipped markers was commonplace for a variety of applications such as lettering, labeling, and creating posters. The year 1962 brought the development of the modern fiber-tipped pen (in contrast to the marker, which generally has a thicker point) by Yukio Horie of the Tokyo Stationery Company (which later became Pentel). In 1993 the Copic Sketch markers were released, popularising markers for professional illustration.
Parts The marker reservoir, which holds the ink, is formed from polyester. The "felt" used for the tip is usually made of highly compressed synthetic fibers or porous ceramics. Toluol and xylol were used as solvents for the dye and are still used for the indelible ink in permanent markers. Due to their toxicity, they have often been replaced with less critical substances such as alkyl or cyclic alkylene carbonates (like propylene carbonate) in other types of markers. Water content of the ink can be up to 10%. Besides solvents and the dye itself, the ink may contain additives (e.g. nonylphenylpolyglycol ether, alkylpoly-glycol ether, fatty acid polyglycol ester, or fatty alcohol ethoxalates) and preservatives (e.g. 2-Phenylphenol and its sodium salt, 6-acetoxy-2,4-dimethyl-m-dioxane).
Thanks anon, I can't tell if this was meant as a joke, but joke's on you i read Wikipedia pages for fun

What is a waterproof deck coating and why is it important?
The terraces and roofs are permanently subjected to inclement weather such as rain, hail, or snow. For this reason, it is necessary that these roofs have Waterproofing Deck Coatings in Orange County, CA that protects them from leaks, cracks, and other types of pathologies.
Characteristics of roof waterproofing systems:
The waterproofing of roofs protects buildings from precipitation and other meteorological phenomena, therefore it must meet the following characteristics:
- Excellent hardness and resistance to exposure and outdoor elements.
- Good adhesion on the surface that favors its durability over time.
- Strong levels of elasticity to withstand changes in temperature and expansion of materials.
- Anti-mold properties that prevent the appearance of stains and moisture.
- High covering power for those surfaces that are not completely flat.
- Resistance to saponification to avoid a bad reaction between the paint and the support.
- Passability for those surfaces that need to be crossed by pedestrians.
Roof waterproofing system:
These are systems that are made up of liquid products of varied compositions and that can be applied in different ways (airless spray, roller, or brush). Once these systems have been applied, they polymerize giving rise to an elastic coating that appears in the form of an adhered, semi-adhered, or loose membrane on the support. With this, a waterproofing film is achieved that guarantees the tightness of the roof. In most cases, these systems are made up of the following parts:
High-resistance fibers such as glass, polyester, or polypropylene provide greater resistance to the system. This reinforcement is necessary in the case of passable roofs, as well as in singular points of the roofs and in the repair of cracked walls.
Primers are liquid products that are applied as a first layer on the substrate to improve adhesion between the support and the waterproofing.
Heavy protection layers are materials that are applied over the waterproofing to prevent it from separating from the support. Other of its functions are protected against environmental agents and mechanical damage.
The finishing layer is one or more layers that are applied over the waterproofing and whose function is aesthetic and protective against environmental agents.
The support layer is the one on which the waterproofing settles.
At prestigedecking.com, we are professional Waterproofing Contractors in Orange County, CA. We have different roof waterproofing systems to cover different problems and pathologies.

What is the Cost of a Kitchen Backsplash in Montgomery County, PA
If your kitchen is looking dated or you simply want to make some changes, you may hesitate because you feel it will be too expensive. According to granite companies nearby, the fact is that updating your kitchen does not have to be expensive. Just a few minor changes can give your kitchen the uplift it needs. One of those small changes is adding a backsplash which will not only give your kitchen a new look but may make it easier to keep clean.
What is a Kitchen Backsplash?
A kitchen backsplash is installed in the area between your countertop and the cabinets. It prevents food and other items from staining your walls which are likely made of drywall. Because painted drywall can be difficult to clean and some substances, like grease or tomato-based sauces, can permanently stain drywall, a backsplash is the best way to keep your kitchen walls looking pristine.
Options for Kitchen Backsplashes
You have many options as far as materials for kitchen backsplashes. Ceramics, granite, quartz, and marble are some of the most popular. You can choose solid slabs or install tile versions. If you want a truly unique look for your kitchen, consider waterproof wood or metal, such as stainless steel. Some homeowners have used cast epoxy, recycled wood, and wallpaper as backsplash as well.
Factors in Cost of Kitchen Backsplash
Of course, the material you choose for your kitchen backsplash will have a big impact on the cost. A search for granite companies nearby will lead you to an idea of the cost of granite backsplash which can cost as much as $1,000 or more. How much of the backsplash material you will need will also be a factor. Some types of counters include the backsplash in the cost, while others do not. Finishing touches to the backsplash can also increase the cost. If you have a large kitchen with many angles, it may cost more for installation than if you have a straight galley-style kitchen. Some materials also require lengthy transportation from vendors which may also increase the cost.
Determining Labor Costs
Although there are some backsplashes you can install on your own, others will require professional installation. Marble, granite, and some types of tile will likely require a professional. The average labor cost for installation can range from $40 to $60 per hour. You may consider using peel-and-stick versions of tile, but keep in mind that if you choose something with a complicated design, it may be difficult to install. In fact, professionals often charge as much as $100 an hour for herringbone or mosaic pattern installations.
Material Costs
The costs for popular kitchen backsplashes vary as well. Ceramic tile costs about $2 per square foot and about $25 per hour for installation. It is also possible to install ceramic tile yourself, but keep in mind that it can be very labor-intensive. Porcelain, which is often what subway tiles are made of, is slightly more expensive at $3 to $5 per square foot. Installation costs are similar to ceramic, but this is not a project you want to take on yourself as porcelain is very delicate.
Despite being fragile for installation, it is resistant to stains and water damage. Stone backsplashes range in cost from $7 to $10 per square foot and installation is around $30 per square foot. Stone backsplashes must be installed by a professional. Glass costs between $7 and $30 per square foot and about $32 per square foot for installation. Many people choose it as it gives your kitchen a sleek, modern look. Stainless steel costs about $20 per square foot and about $36 for installation. It is the most expensive to install but the easiest to keep clean, although it may lose its sheen if it is not cleaned properly.
Other Factors that May Increase Cost
There are other factors to consider when determining the cost of installing backsplash, granite companies nearby say. You will likely have electrical outlets and wall switches above your counter which means the backsplash will need to be cut around those openings. If you have a lot of switches and outlets, you may be quoted a higher installation price. You will also want to consider the length of time it will take to install types of backsplashes. Many can be installed in just a day or two while others may take longer.
For example, tile is often installed in steps which may lengthen the time it will take to complete the job. This can also increase the cost somewhat. As mentioned, if you choose an intricate design, the cost may be higher as the contractor will need to match the design in the tiles they install. This may also mean you must purchase a larger number of tiles or sheets to make up for losses as the backsplash sections are matched.

A glass painting kit can be a convenient option, as it typically includes a variety of colors, brushes, and other essential tools to get you started.
Transparent glass paint is ideal for creating a stained glass effect, allowing light to pass through the painted surface for a stunning visual impact. For Types of drying equipment explained that require added protection, consider using waterproof glass paint. This type of paint forms a permanent and waterproof seal, ensuring your artwork remains intact even in humid or wet conditions.
In addition to the paint itself, other tools such as heat-resistant glass paint, brushes, palette knives, and stencils can help you achieve various techniques and effects in your glass painting projects. When working on intricate designs or fine details, colored glass paint and glass spray paint can offer precision and versatility. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced glass painter, having the right materials and tools at your disposal can make a significant difference in the outcome of your creations.
Techniques
In glass painting, technique is key to achieving stunning results. One popular technique is the tracing method, where a design is transferred onto the glass using a glass paint outline. This allows for precise detailing and control over the final outcome. Another technique is the sponging method, which creates a textured effect by dabbing paint onto the glass surface with a sponge. This technique is great for adding depth and dimension to your artwork.
For those looking to create a stained glass effect, the leading technique is essential. Leading involves outlining different sections of the design with strips of lead, creating divisions between colors. Enhance your garden decor with weatherproof glass painted plant pots or add a touch of elegance to your patio with personalized glass lanterns. The permanent and durable nature of these paints ensures that your creations will stand the test of time, maintaining their beauty for years to come.

Vivarium Build
Tumblr media
I’ve been working on this frog vivarium for a few weeks now, still not finished with it yet. I wanted to post progress photos, especially how I did the background since it was somewhat experimental.
When I did my research on making terrarium background I couldn’t find a method that didn’t use styrofoam which I didn’t want to use for several reasons. So I decided to use a wooden scaffold.
Tumblr media
First I traced out a rough outline of the background with a permanent marker. Then cut some dowels to use as posts, and head them in place with modeling clay.
Tumblr media
Next I started on the ledges using wooden barbecue skewers, then securing with clay, and hotgluing it down.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adding the framing for the waterfall.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I had the basic shapes defined I started reinforcing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The flat board was probably over kill.
For the waterfall area I framed with wire to give me a smother contour.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next I covered the frame with aluminum multimedia mesh.I spent way to long fighting with wire cutters before I realized the mesh can be cut with scissors.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I took the frame out of the tank and coated the mesh with concrete patcher, and sanded once it dried
Tumblr media
Then added a heater cable to the back with silicone to make a basking spot.
Tumblr media
While the concrete and silicone were drying I cleaned up the glass, and then painted the tank sides black to hide the empty space.
Once everything was dry I put the background back in. I should have left more space between the sides when making the frame, to make putting it in easier and avoid scratching the glass.
Once I painted the background I tried to seal the paint with silicone like I’ve seen others do, but it wound up looking like crap and I had to peel it off (dremel brush works great btw).
I wound up using clear concrete waterproofer since I’ve seen a lot of people using Drylok. With everything sealed I did a water tightness test, aaannnd the whole thing leaks.
I should have gone with my original idea to have the waterfall pump inside the background, have the lower half be a reservoir, and just avoid this in the first place. The second issue I had was the planter ledges were too small and had deep crevices that prevented me from effectively waterproofing them.
I finally got it 99.9% watertight, which probably a waste since I think I’m going to knock a hole in it to give me some room for a small fish anyways.
Tumblr media
With that done I added in the leca drainage layer and soil mix. Leaving the fun part of decorating and planting.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
To make a cover for the background I took some more of the mesh.
Tumblr media
Curled up the edges.
Tumblr media
Made a frame.
(This one was small enough to not need a frame)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then added sheet moss.
Tumblr media
I made some holes in the screen cover to run the mister system through.
Tumblr media
I use washers that I spray painted to cover both sides to protect from sharp edges and stop any potential escapes.
Tumblr media
That’s all I have done so far.

Learning about Different Types of Sealants
Speaking of construction projects, sealants are important components that fail to garner the attention they deserve. A high-grade sealant plays an important role in improving the quality life of a building or structure. It acts as a barrier that prevents fluids and other substances from passing through surfaces, joints, or openings, causing damage in the long run. It also prevents the passage of air, sound, dust and in some cases even mitigates fire from spreading.
Sealants have a wide range of properties with respect to strength, flexibility, appearance, permanence, solubility, corrosion resistance etc that make them suitable for different applications. You can achieve desired results by matching the most suitable sealant to your substrate materials.
Here is a list of sealants used in building and construction projects that will give you a better understanding of different types of sealants:
Polysulfide sealants: Polysulphide sealants are highly adaptable sealants that demonstrate good resistance to saltwater, ozone and sunlight. Widely used in the construction process, they are mainly used to seal off the various types of channels and different kinds of joints. It provides a seal that is completely waterproof and minimizes the water leakage risks and any kind of damage and erosion to the substrate.
Silicon based sealants: Silicon-based sealants have good thermal resistance, desirable dynamic movement capability and good adhesion. However, for certain substrates like stones, staining can be an issue, and in some other cases, the use of primers could be a necessity. An expensive option, silicon-based sealants have very good durability performance.
Acrylic sealants: Similar to silicone sealants, acrylic sealants are single-component elastomeric acrylic sealants. Their movement accommodation does not match that of silicon sealants and polysulphide sealants. Showing low shrinkage properties but excellent adhesion properties to all kinds of building materials, these usually give a fine finish and appearance to the surface due to their acrylic property. An added advantage of these sealants is that they accept any paint material readily.
Polyurethane sealants: Available in single and multi-component formulations, polyurethane sealants are best when used in horizontal joints or non-sagging, vertical applications. In particular, these are ideal for roofing, foundation, expansion and control joints etc. These have excellent tear and abrasion resistance, reasonable chemical and weather resistance and are practical options for a broad range of joint sizes. Even polyurethane paints are good-to-go options for protecting substrates from various types of harmful impacts such as corrosion, weathering, abrasion and other deteriorating processes.
Butyl sealants: These are elastomer-based plastic sealants that adhere well to a broad variety of substrates including metal, concrete, glass, wood, ceramics etc. Butyl sealants unlike other sealants do not cure (the properties do not change over time). They show low abrasion resistance and are usually not suitable for demanding building applications.
Polyisobutylenes sealants: These sealants have properties similar to natural rubber but with better durability, improved resistance to chemicals and minimal permeability. Commonly used for insulating glazing units (IGU), they are good at resisting the transmission of vapor and gases. They are generally factory-applied, rather than site applied.
If you want to know which sealant is the best, the answer lies in your area of application. Ideally, speaking, no singular sealant type can be classified as the superior most. This is because some are simply better at certain applications than others owing to their physical and chemical properties. But, yes, one thing that can make a difference in all cases and hence should not be ignored is the good brand.
Next time, while finalizing your sealants for your respective project make sure you opt for the right brand like Dr.CIPY. It’s a reliable brand offering top quality sealants that work well for several types of construction projects. If you are among the ones who do not like to compromise with the quality then Dr.CIPY’s range is just the right choice for you.

What the difference between Removable Vinyl and Permanent Vinyl?
What is permanent vinyl?
The adhesive contained in the permanent vinyl is stronger.  It is a durable vinyl.  Although you can remove vinyl, it often leaves a sticky residue that is hard to remove and can also cause paint to peel off your car or walls.
 What is removable vinyl?
Removable vinyl can be easily removed without leaving any sticky marks on the outside.  It does not damage paint on walls or objects, nor does it leave a residue on the glass.

What is the difference between shutters and plantation shutters?
Shutters are a terrific alternative to traditional curtains since they allow you to modify light levels and the mood of a room while maintaining your privacy. However, this does not imply that purchasing them is simple. Not only can shutters come in a variety of forms and sizes, but they also come in two separate types with distinct visual styles: classical shutters and plantation shutters.
Understanding traditional window shutters In Surrey, shutters usually have panels that cover windows from the inside, frequently on a hinge or sliding track, as almost everyone knows. They’re more insulating than thin curtains and frequently have a finer appearance; with a strong emphasis on all-or-nothing visibility (they’re either open or closed).
Some will be fully solid and opaque, while others will be latticed or angled like window blinds, but they all work similarly. Our collection shows the various appearances that can be produced.
Understanding plantation shutters A plantation shutter, rather than having a plain block or pattern, is a louvred design that incorporates slanted horizontal slats. They’re made to slope down from the outside in, allowing more light and air in, at least while they’re open.
When a plantation shutter is closed, it blocks practically all light and reduces the quantity of chilly air that enters the window. They’re frequently painted white to reflect heat and light and keep the room cooler like they were on actual plantations. They may be able to fold in on themselves to offer you complete access to the raw glass in some circumstances, but in others maybe a semi-permanent feature.
What are the advantages of plantation shutters? 1. A plantation shutters in Surrey is a combination of a window shutter, a blind, and a curtain, providing excellent heat management and cooling as well as a pair of slats that are very easy to adjust.
2. They’re also incredibly elegant, making them a desirable window addition for those who find curtains and blinds to be too office-like.
3. They’re significantly more adaptable than standard shutters, making them an excellent replacement option if you want to change things up.
4. Shutters can, of course, be utilised with curtains and blinds if you have the space. This can be a positive thing in locations with erratic weather and climates. It’s because you can utilise the plantation shutters and curtains to control how much hot or cold air enters your home.
What is the best plantation shutter material? Plantation shutters were traditionally made of wood, but the modern world has given us more options in terms of how we may design them. As a result, there are more materials to keep track of, each with its own set of benefits and drawbacks.
· Wood is the original, and modern wood has all of the same advantages as before, such as insulation, strength, and high quality, at least if the shutters are installed properly. It’s also the most fashionable and is also commonly used in traditional shutters in Surrey. It’s often the most valuable alternative and will increase the building’s value slightly.
· Waterproof Materials are extremely effective in coping with damp weather and spills and are frequently used in bathrooms, kitchens, and other areas where a lot of water could deform or rot other materials.
· Metal isn’t as common as it once was, but it can still be found in some places. These are commonly employed as a security precaution since they maintain the same wonderful appearance while being robust enough to act as an actual barrier if necessary.
· PVC and similar synthetic materials are widely used for obvious reasons. On paper, it is usually less expensive, more accessible, and stronger than wood, with the most significant drawbacks being style, design, and overall quality. If you need a shutter and don’t care what it’s made of, you’ll frequently resort to materials like this. Get some of the best plantation shutters in Surrey for redecorating your home, living room, and kitchen, only at Bright Light Shutters. They offer a wide range of window shutters in the area, ensuring the highest quality of products and services. Choose them as your preferred destination for traditional and contemporary shutters.
