"You're probably right though. I'll wait here for Appos," Skye said sheepishly.

(@teampursuit) Peanut@Cody: "So, you said you have siblings. That must be nice." The Kirboot stuffed their paws in the jacket around their waist, "How many do you have? Do you get along with them?"

(Cody nods) Two, both older, a bro and a sis. We get along very well, and my sister in particular is a very good emotional support figure in my life. When i'm having a emotional health problem, she is usually there in a jiffy to lend her wings for safety. As a Salamence, her wings are very big, and her embrace very warm.

With a gasp of surprise, Peanut suddenly shouted, "Nami, keep it distracted for a moment!"

Then they left their Hunters Horn on the edge of the battlefield and leapt directly at Kaiju. The momentum of it knocked them both to the ground, easily shielded by the tall swordgrass.

"PJ?? What the hell-"

"I ordered you to stay home, Kaiju. You're still recovering for Arceus' sake! You aren't ready to fight an Ursaring, of all things, yet."

"I'm here now, let me fight with you. I'm telling you, I'm fine."

Moments after Peanut initiated the fight, Nami came dashing out of the trees. She swiftly pulled put her daggers and began channeled her moves through them.

The Ursaring bellowed in pain and swung its massive jaws around. The clamped down with a deafening crack, mere inches from Nami's tail as she rolled out of the way.

Peanut played an invigorating tune from their Hunters Horn and then swung it around again in an attempt to distract the monster.

(Asktheovertaken)Mags@Peanut: “Psst, What's up with that Ursaring? Whys it so big?” They whisper, trying to make sure said ursaring doesnt hear them.

"I mean- usually even Pokemon that don't leave the towns much know what a Monster looks like..." The Kirboot gave themself a quick shake, before continuing to whisper.

"Uh, that Ursaring is, obviously, a Monster. They're big, dynamaxed, rampaging beasts. It's really dangerous for you to be here if you don't know how to fight one...you should leave it to us Hunters."

(@ask-some-hybrids) Rogue@Peanut: “I’m rather surprised to see another Raboot hybrid. Anyways, what are you doing out here, away from your teammates?”

"And, uh," Peanut cleared their throat nervously before continuing, "Well, usually we split in pairs when we start a hunt. Me and Kaiju engage first while Jack gets in position for sniping, then Nami joins us at the fight. Right now I'm just preparing to give the signal for Nami to join me. Which, it's time to go- you might wanna stay back!"

The Kirboot pulled a cylindrical container from their pocket, it's color a dark, royal purple. They pulled a small tab and then drew their arm back. Thick, purple smoke began to emit from the container and Peanut chucked it with all their might at the Ursaring. The Monster let out a surprised bellow, but seemed unsure of just what this smoke was.

[It appears the fight is starting! Asks can still be sent, but keep in mind that Team Pursuit will be focusing on the Monster!]

(This is a heavy fight scene so, CW: Violence, blood and creature death)

Peanut stared at Kaiju for a few moments, doubt and a hint of anger swirling in their pink eyes, before looking away again. There was more they wanted to argue about and they could evoke their final say as leader of the team...but that wasn't like the Kirboot. 

"Okay." Peanut sighed, "But be careful and don't take too many risks. Let me be more of the tank this time."

"And what, I be the support? Peej, you're the one with the Hunters Horn and I'm the one with the Hammer. We should do this the way we always do."

"...fine."

Suddenly they were interrupted by another voice, "Some leader you are, you never stand up against us."

Nami stood before them, scrapes trailing along her left arm. The blood had mostly dried over the cuts by now, but it still looked painful. Peanut looked around in a sudden panic.

"Where's the Ursaring?"

"It retreated after I gave it a nasty blow to the nose." The Nickill huffed, "Next clearing over, I think. I saw Jack moving to keep an eye on it."

Kaiju blinked incredulously, "Retreating already? That can't be right."

"Like I said- I got it good. Nearly cleaved its nose off and it's bleeding heavily from that."

While the two of them bickered over whether the Monster retreating early was a good or bad sign, a plan started to form in Peanut's mind. The Ursaring won't want them to get anywhere near its face again and would most likely keep its head low to the ground. If they rushed its lower body, the beast would be forced to hold its head in the air above them to keep them away. And that meant…

Peanut interrupted the argument suddenly, "Nami, we're gonna need you to relay this plan to Jack and tell her to aim for a killing shot."

Nami pulled an annoyed face, but nodded solemnly.

"Kaiju, you and I are going to deal as much damage to its hindlegs as we can. Avoid its blows, but jump back into the fray quickly, yeah?" PJ rambled quickly, "Giving Jack her opportunity for the final blow."

The Quagscadon brightened, obviously happy to be taken seriously in the plan again. He pulled out his hammer and began to channel Earthquake through it preemptively. There is a moment where doubt flashes through Peanut. They aren't sure, well- they want to trust Kaiju. And it's not like they could prevent him from joining, he'd fight alongside them no matter what and Peanut can't have their focus in two places when taking on a Monster. But bravado in the face of injury can be a dangerous thing.

If Kaiju is pushing to fight when he's not ready...if Kaiju reopens that injury mid battle...that could be fatal. 

There wasn't much time to delve into this train of thought, however, as Nami dashed off to do her job and Kaiju began moving too. The Kirboot quickly took the lead instead and only stopped again when they'd found the Ursaring.

Nami's words were true; the monster's nose still bled profusely and its pained grunts were an easy trail to follow even without the crimson stains upon the ground. Peanut gripped their Hunters Horn tightly and gave a brusque nod to their companion. Starting the fight now would mean an easier shot for Jack as soon as she was prepared. 

They started as they always did; Peanut lent strength to their companion with an invigorating tune and Kaiju rushed in as the first distraction. The monster was so busy shielding its injured snout, it had no time to dodge the blow. Kaiju's hammer came down with a sickening crack and there was no doubt that the beast's forepaw was shattered by it. 

The Ursaring left out a deafening roar of pain, so loud that PJ was forced to cover their ears, sensitive as they were. Part of them was conflicted by this. They were Hunters and they were no stranger to fighting these beasts...but their goal now was to set Jack up for the kill. To injure the Monster like that seemed far more violent and senseless than Kaiju ever was.

There wasn't time to reprimand or even question him right now, however, so Peanut simply shouldered their weapon. Then they leapt at the other hindleg and swung the Hunters horn around, channeling Flame Charge through it. The strings glowed a vibrant orange with hints of red and Peanut reveled in the momentary warmth that they exuded.

All while the two of them kept the beast on its toes, arrows would sprout from its upper body. Each one was accompanied by a growl or roar of shock and pain. One shot clean through its ear and lodged in the ground nearby. Another caught it in the muzzle, that one was followed by a particular gut-wrenching cry. 

And then, for a sliver of a second, Peanut looked up and realized the perfect finisher had spring forth. The Ursaring towered over them at its full height. Its head was thrown back, mouth wide open, in a roar so powerful that the Kirboot stumbled backwards. Finish it, Jack, they thought desperately as one massive paw caught the edge of their weapon and sent it careening away.

Jack must have sensed the perfection of the moment too and let loose. The final arrow sunk through the Ursaring's upper jaw, straight through to the back of its skull. It jolted in one last instance of shock, before wobbling haphazardly. 

Peanut scrambled away as fast as they could, but it wasn't enough. Down came the Ursaring and its massive side collapsed onto the Kirboot's legs. Shocks of pain jolted through them and Peanut silently registered that while it hurt, it wasn't quite bad enough to be broken bones. They struggled to free themself and grit their teeth.

Kaiju jogged over and hauled as much of the furry hide off of Peanut as he could, freeing the Kirboot at last. They'd have to carve up the body for parts soon, but that could wait until their other two teammates joined them. PJ was happy to collapse onto the ground with a relieved sigh and let their aching legs rest.

[Peanut, Kaiju, Nami and Jack's asks are closed while they return to town.]
