One of our greatest heroes was assassinated 63 years ago today by Congolese men under the orders of Washington, Brussels and London.
It was Congolese men from Katangan who shot and killed Lumumba; the Belgians disposed of his body by dismembering it by melting it in acid and in a disgusting twist, his teeth were taken as a ‘souvenir’ by a former Belgian police chief. A singular tooth is all that remains of Congolese independence legend Patrice Lumumba. This happened more than 60 years ago yet it was only in 2020, at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, that Belgium’s King Philippe apologised for atrocities committed in DRC and agreed to return Lumumba’s tooth.
It’s now been buried in DRC - over 60 years after colonialists assassinated him.

Reposted from @mediaoutrage2 Reposted from @amhur75 For nearly 80 years, Belgium ruled the Congo with nearly unprecedented brutality. Between 1885 and 1908 alone, King Leopold II treated the entire Congo like his own personal rubber plantation and subjected workers to mass rape, mutilation, and death, ultimately leaving some 10 million murdered. But in 1960, the Congo finally gained its independence — and it seemed like Patrice Lumumba would be the perfect man to usher in a new chapter for the country. A longtime activist for Congolese independence, Lumumba was a popular choice to become the country's first prime minister. After all, he helped the country win its freedom and boldly spoke out against Belgian brutality. Despite attracting many supporters, Lumumba also made plenty of enemies — especially Western countries like America who feared his anti-colonialist message. Soon, Belgium and the U.S. collaborated with a Congolese faction in torturing and assassinating Lumumba at the age of just 35 Credit By: @realhistoryuncovered #drc #congo #patricelumumba #cia #1960s #africa #historyofafrica #africanempowerment #panafrican #africandiaspora #westafrica #eastafrica #afrique #françafrique #knowyourhistory #stevebiko #kwamenkrumah #malcolmx #wakeupafrica #blackfamily #blackfathers #blackandproud #blackwomen #africanwomen #blackman #blackwoman #africandiaspora #Chicago #atlanta #newyork https://www.instagram.com/p/CTM5CRMA6zlgu1wN-GewViInE5NX-hiBO6iSI80/?utm_medium=tumblr

A lot of us have spent hours laughing at Dave Chappelle’s jokes, but few know about the extraordinary life of his mother, Dr. Yvonne Seon. In a recent interview that aired, Seon was asked about her decision to go and work for Congolese independence leader Patrice Lumumba. The broadcast is worth listening too. But Seon’s life also represents a more profound connectivity harbored in the Black Atlantic in the twentieth century especially, which has connected the Congo to North America, and the Caribbean. . . #CongoToGlobal #PatriceLumumba #PanAfricanist #BlackLegend #BlackExcellence✊🏾 (at Crenshaw and Slauson) https://www.instagram.com/p/B3TMRKbD4ER/?igshid=1w45esvnregwo
