Question How is your practise - I mean ‘honestly how is it going?’ How often do you practise? Is it really practise or is it more playing? Gothic Scripts Textualis Quadrata is the basis of the scripts in the Gothic Era. It is from this simple script most of the hands in the Mediaeval Period derive. I developed my PAScribe Geometric Textualis Quadrata as a teaching mechanism for the learning of broad nib scripts but also to simplify this script due to the number of variants from 1250 up to the present day. July takes us through some detailed historical studies in English Roundhand and English Vernacular. These two scripts were written at the same time by the English Writing Masters and used extensively on documents, glass engraving and tombstones. They work in tandem with each other and are excellent for expanding you knowledge of pointed nib scripts and give a real boost to your arsenal of letter variations. The teaching area is FINALLY set up. A few more things still need to be put into place but for all intents and purposes it is ready for Zoom Classes. Understanding Italic can be a tricky thing if you start with it at an angle! I developed my PAScribe Italic based on the same thing all my base scripts are developed from - GEOMETRY. By working out the geometric proportioning the structure of the framework becomes readily apparent and considerably easier to apply. Tuesday 20th is a 2 hour lecture Lecture on the history and development of Italic and why Chancery Cursive or Cancellarescha is should be considered something different from Italic. Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th, from 1-6.30 on both days is the Workshop where we look at my geometric structure, a simplified monoline form and on to the more rounded forms of the broad nib Italic. If you have been struggling with the script this is a super way to gain a deeper understanding of a simplified structure to graft your more complex forms unto. This week is Textualis Quadrata week! Lecture on Tuesday and Workshop on Sunday, info below. These are majuscules from the Gutenberg Bible and are the closest type to our written caps for this script. They are much more angular and regular in the way they are constructed to fit the punch for type. Hot on the heels of the 3500 Years of the Western Alphabet Lexture is one of the scripts I am most well known for - Copperplate Script. Lecture on the 23rd of Feb is 2 hours long with a 1 hour Q&A after. It will look at the history of the script covering 1550 to 1900. Workshop on the 28th of Feb is 5.5 hours long including a 1 hour Q&A. We will learn my PAScribe Geometric Copperplate as a framework for building other scripts which fall under this umbrella.
