🍔 Review № 591 ━ 📍 Paindemie ★★☆☆☆ • Paindemie in Amsterdam set themselves apart from the other burger joints that we usually review here at Burgerdudes. Their ”twist” is that they use goat meat in their burgers, but since we’d received loads of tips about them from burger lovers we felt that we simply had to give them a try. Their menu consisted of two goat burgers, plus some patty melts and vegetarian options. We couldn’t resist their ”Le Big Mie”, with two 100-gram goat patties, goat cheese, lettuce, pickles and their Big Mie sauce. It cost 13.5 EUR (13 USD). • We were a bit surprised when it arrived at our table, as it looked very different with its butter-fried and sesame seed covered toast bun. And our first bite confirmed that this wasn’t the best bun for the job, as our burger started to fall apart immediately and was impossible to hold. Taste-wise there were both good and bad things. We liked the flavour and the texture of the goat meat, and it was very juicy despite being lean. The goat cheese added a nice taste dimension, and the thousand island-esque sauce worked well with the other flavours. The patties could have been salted and peppered a bit more to make them pop though, as most of the flavours came from the overpowering amount of sesame seeds from the bread. • Considering how talked about Paindemie are, we were left a bit disappointed that their burger wasn’t up to par. Japanese Pain De Mie / Milk Bread / Shoku pan These Japanese breads are super fluffy, subtly sweet, and are used for a variety of things from sandwiches to desserts. Leftovers are made into panko. When I’m in Japan, I always eat a piece of toast for breakfast. So I cut my piece and put it in my housemate’s Hello Kitty toaster. When it came out, I though it came out irregularly toasted, but then upon looking closer, it’s actually a picture of Hello Kitty on my toast!
