#12 Médias numériques et démocratie
Les trois précédents billets ont illustré les biens faits et méfaits des réseaux sociaux sur la vie relationnelle et privée des individus. Un aspect de la vie virtuelle n’a pas été abordé dans les précédents billets : la vie politique.
À l’ère de la technologie, les médias sociaux ont changé la manière que les citoyens ont de participer à la vie politique. Comme mentionné dans le billet de la séance # 6, les médias sociaux permettent une grande et rapide mobilisation pour de multiples causes dont politique. D’ailleurs, plusieurs gouvernements ont été renversés, tels que celui de la Tunisie en 2011, grâce aux militants politiques du Web (Michaud H, 2021).
En fait, les médias sociaux sont pour plusieurs une source d’information médiatique importante (Michaud H, 2021). C’est pourquoi les militants politiques forment de plus en plus de groupes surs Facebook, par exemple, ce qui leur permette de participer de façon active à la vie politique. Grâce aux réseaux sociaux, il est facile de s’engager politiquement en peu de temps et sans le moindre effort. Seulement en aimant la page ou le profil du politicien, ainsi qu’en donnant son opinion, va aider autant les militants politiques que les partis politiques puisque cela donne une base sur quoi ils pourront construire leurs stratégies et leurs actions politiques (E. Silva, J. Hutchens, R. Donaway, A. Beam, 2018).
En lien avec le précédent paragraphe, une définition de militant politique s’impose pour une meilleure compréhension. Être militant politique, selon le dictionnaire Larousse : « c’est un individu qui soutient activement une cause, une idéologie ou un parti. C’est aussi un adhérent à un parti politique, une organisation, une association » (Larousse, s.d).
Cependant, selon une étude de François Larouche, étudiant à l’université Laval en science politique, les militants qu’il a interrogés ont mentionné que les nouvelles technologies numériques (médias sociaux) aident grandement dans leurs actions politiques, mais qu’ils vont toujours être palliés avec les technologies traditionnelles (médias traditionnels) (Larouche, 2014).
En conclusion, les réseaux sociaux n’ont pas que du mauvais, mais ont aussi du bon qui peut permettre de sauver la vie des gens comme l’a démontré le printemps arabe, qui sans les médias sociaux auraient eu moins d’impacts envers les gouvernements concernés.
