I haven't written an x reader, a one-shot, in a ridiculously long time, because I'm really bad in short, cute and characterless stories, which is funny because this was supposed to be mainly a writing blog lmao, but God. I'm in such a need for Mycroft Holmes fics, I might as well just write some.

Last Promise.
Prompt: A Theo imagine where the reader is his gf and she dies in his arms like Allison did in Scott’s. She’s a banshee. – @rochyu
Author’s Note: This prompt originally had more to it, but after talking with @rochyu, she said it was fine if I changed it up a bit since she had already requested it with someone else and they got it written first.
Hope you like what I came up with!
Warning: Death.

(Y/N)’s heart started racing as a sudden massive wave of anxiety washed over her. She hated this. She hated being a banshee. She’d only been one for a few months, but she knew she hated it. She hated getting the feeling that someone was going to die. It didn’t help that Beacon Hills didn’t exactly have a high survival rate thanks to being a literal beacon for supernatural creatures and all. She didn’t understand how Lydia did it.
Lydia’s tried to help her manage it and push some feelings back, but (Y/N) doesn’t think this is something she’ll ever get used to. Don’t get her wrong, there are some instances where she gets the feeling that someone is going to die, and she’s actually able to help save someone. That was one of the most rewarding feelings, being able to save someone. But most of the time, the feeling is excruciating and heart-wrenching.
She stopped in her tracks in the courtyard of the school. Busy students rushed around her as they escaped the confined hallways and raced toward the long, holiday weekend. (Y/N) barely noticed them though as she zoned out. She could feel it. She could feel that someone close to her was going to die soon. It sent her into a panic. Her breathing got labored. Her palms got sweaty, and her vision started to get blurry. She could feel her legs starting to shake as she tried to maintain her balance. She was having a full-blown panic attack.
After what seemed like forever to her, but was actually only minutes, she felt a strong pair of arms wrap around her as she started to collapse to the ground. “(Y/N). Baby. Hey… hey… shh. Baby, shh… it’s okay.”
His voice was muffled, but she could still recognize it. “Theo…” she breathed out. “Theo… I can’t… I can’t…” (Y/N) was still struggling to catch her breath.
“Okay… okay, um…” Theo started muttering as he guided her off the sidewalk, away from the crowd, towards the picnic table. “Just… just try thinking of something else, (Y/N). Think of anything else.” He tried to soothe her, but he wasn’t really sure how. He’d never dealt with a panic attack before. She’s never had anything like this happen, which only meant this could mean one thing. This banshee feeling was serious.
“It’s… Theo, someone’s… going to… die.” (Y/N) managed to get out between panicked breaths.
Worry washed over Theo, but he tried not to show it because he knew it would just make her panic more. “Baby, no one’s going to die. Okay? You just need to think about something else, baby.” He tried to soothe her again as he rubbed his hands up and down her arms. He knew that he wasn’t hiding what he was thinking well. She could probably see the worry on his face too.
(Y/N) shook her head vehemently as tears filled her eyes, “I… can’t… it… won’t… go…. away.”
Theo didn’t know what to say. Her banshee predictions had yet to be wrong, but he hated that she had to go through this. He caressed his thumbs across her cheeks, wiping away fallen tears, as he tried to think of what else he could do. So, he did the only thing he could think of. He looked into her beautiful eyes for a minute then pulled her face closer and pressed his lips against hers.
When he felt that she was calmed down, he pulled back and looked into her eyes. She still had a terrified look on her face. “No one is going to die, (Y/N).” He tried to reassure her before wrapping his arms around her in a comforting embrace.
“You can’t promise me that.” She whispered into his neck as more tears slid down to his shoulder. All he could do was hold her tight as he rubbed her back and hoped with all hope that her banshee prediction was wrong for once.

“Let her go!” Theo yelled as he yanked against the metal bar he was chained to. He watched as the Dread Doctors drug (Y/N) across the floor and chained her up as well.  “I said, let her go!”  He growled.
He couldn’t remember how they got to this point. The only thing he could recall was walking to the school parking lot after a late-night study session in the library with (Y/N). The Dread Doctors appeared in front of them and then everything went black. Now, here they were. (Y/N) was still out cold as the Dread Doctors stomped across their lair and messed with her as he struggled to break free from the chains.
“Let her go!” Theo snarled again as he yanked the chains with all the strength he could muster.
“Distraction equals failure.” One of the Dread Doctors responded, it’s voice echoing through the lair.
“NO!” Theo yelled, continuing his fight against the chains, hoping they would loosen or break all together. The Dread Doctors saw (Y/N) as a distraction to Theo. They felt that she got in the way of their plan. They weren’t wrong. (Y/N) had kept him from following through with some of their demands, but he never thought they would do this. Theo knew what failure meant to the Dread Doctors. It meant death. And now (Y/N)’s banshee prediction had him freaking out.
She was not going to be the one to die. Not on his watch.
He jerked and pulled and yanked the chains with every ounce of strength. His anger and desperation fueled him. The chains slowly started to loosen from the cement wall and his wrists began to bleed from the cuffs of the chains, but he didn’t care. He could heal. She couldn’t.
“AGHHH!” He grunted as he pulled as hard as he could one last time. The chains broke loose, but just as he turned to check on (Y/N) the Dread Doctors injected her with their deathly serum. “NOOOO!!!”
“Distraction terminated.” A Dread Doctor stated before disappearing, leaving Theo and (Y/N) alone in the lair.
Theo rushed to her side, trying not to trip over anything. He knew that the serum they injected her with wasn’t immediately effective, but he had no idea how he could save her, and that crushed him. He knelt by her side and pulled her into his arms.
“Theo…” she mustered out as she came to, if only for the slightest of moments.
“I’m right here, baby. I’m right here. He assured her as he pulled her closer and tried not to get choked up.
“I… I need…” She began, gasping for breath. She had a loose grip on his shirt, as if she was trying to hang on to him for dear life.
Theo felt the tears stinging at his eyes as he looked down at her struggling to breathe in his arms. “What do you need, baby?”
“I need you to know…” A few tears began to slip from the corners of her eyes. Her skin was getting paler and colder by the minute. “I love you.” She finally whispered.
His heart sunk. It was the first time either one of them had said it, and now he was regretting every day that he never told her but wanted to. “I love you too, (Y/N). So much.” His eyes burned as he couldn’t stop the tears from spilling over.
(Y/N) slowly lifted her hand up to his cheek and her brown eyes stared into his tearful hazel ones. “My heart. My soul. My love.” She whispered weakly. “Promise me something…”
Theo pulled her closer to his chest as he looked into her eyes, “Anything.”
She lightly caressed his stubbled cheek with her thumb, “Promise me… you’ll forget about the power and… just be the good guy that I know you are and… gain Scott and Stiles’ trust.” Her words were breathy and strained but Theo understood every one of them.
He nodded feverishly, “I promise I’ll do my best. Anything for you.”
She started drifting, her eyes fluttering closed and her hand falling from his face. Theo shook his head as reality hit him. “No, no, no... no.” He muttered over and over as more tears spilled from his eyes.
“It’s okay.” She whispered.
Theo continued shaking his head, “No, it’s not. It’s not okay. I can’t lose you.”
“It’s okay because I’m with you, the love of my life. My soul mate.” She muttered with a weak smile.
Theo leant his head down against her forehead, closing his eyes as his hand gripped hers. He just wished he had the power to take her pain away. “I love you. I love you. I love you. More than anything.” He whispered repeatedly until he felt her hand go limp in his and her heart stopped beating.
A sob escaped his throat as he rocked back and forth with her limp body in his arms. This was all his fault. She was dead because of him, and that thought ripped him to shreds. He should have stopped them. He should have protected her. He shouldn’t have gotten so power hungry. He shouldn’t have trusted the Dread Doctors.
He should have been the good guy (Y/N) believed him to be.

A month later and Theo’s heart was still heavy with grief over losing (Y/N). No one had ever made him feel the way that she did. She made him feel like he was worth something, that he wasn’t defined by his past, that he was wanted, and that he wasn’t a failure. She made him want to be a better person, which is what he’d been working on for the last month. It was his last promise to her, and he’d be damned if he was going to break it.
He’s actually developed somewhat of a hero complex because of it, doing whatever he could to help and save people. He’s been sort of shadowing Scott, trying to mimic his character and his need to save all of Beacon Hills even though he’s just a teenager. At first it was more about keeping his promise to (Y/N), but now it’s become more about actually caring about people more than the power. Maybe he felt the need to save these people because he couldn’t save (Y/N), a fact that still gutted him.
Theo wasn’t officially a part of Scott’s pack yet, Stiles refused to let that happen, but it didn’t stop him from trying to prove to them that he’d changed. It was a work in progress, but he was slowly making way with them. Scott even included him in their plans to defeat The Beast, and Theo proved that he was worth trusting by not screwing them over and actually protecting the rest of the pack. Maybe they used him because he knows more about the Dread Doctors, The Beast, Valack, and the Wild Hunt, but he didn’t really care if he was being used. It just gives him the opportunity to prove himself even more.
They all sat at a table in the library late at night as they tried to find whatever information they could on the Wild Hunt. People had started mysteriously disappearing from Beacon Hills, including someone they all knew, but couldn’t remember. Now, they were trying to figure out how to save them. Theo started tapping his pen as he read a book on the mythology and could feel eyes staring at him. He looked up to see everyone’s eyes on him.
“Sorry.” He apologized as he stopped the tapping and went back to reading, but they still looked at him. “What?”
Scott looked around at Liam, Malia, and Lydia then back at Theo. “Um… we were just curious about something.” He paused until Theo gave him a confused look that told him to continue. “We’ve all noticed how you’ve been trying to prove to us that you’ve changed, but… we were just wondering why?”
“This isn’t just some ploy to pull a fast one over us, is it?” Malia piped in.
“Yeah. You’ve fooled us once. Who’s to say that you aren’t trying to do it again?” Liam questioned.
Theo looked to Lydia waiting on her to put in her two cents. “We’re just wondering if you’re doing this because you want to or because you want to worm your way in and try to get power again?” She finally asked.
He looked down as he fiddled with his pen. “(Y/N) believed that I was a good guy, that I just let the power get to my head.” He started quietly then paused to gather his thoughts. “She made me promise her one thing before she died in my arms; to be that guy she believed me to be.” He finally looked back up and around at them. “So, that’s what I’m trying to do. I refuse to break that promise. It’s not about the power for me anymore. I just want to do right by her. I want to be the guy that she deserved, not the guy that got her killed.” He had tears in his eyes by now, but he didn’t let them slip.
Everyone was silent for a minute as they didn’t know what to say. Theo looked to Scott and saw that he was feeling a bit conflicted with his emotions, undoubtedly because he remembered Allison dying in his arms. “Well, I think she’d be pretty proud of you so far.” He finally stated while looking Theo in the eyes.
Theo sniffled a little, “Thanks.”
“Just don’t blow it.” Malia stated bluntly and stared at him with an arched eyebrow before going back to reading on her laptop.
“I don’t plan on it.” He responded firmly, trying not to break in front of them. If it was the last thing he did, Theo would keep his promise.
The End.
