Been thinking about this awhile. I know a lot of 'fix it' Outsider's fics involve c!Owen loosing his memories again after the fact he kills everyone he does...

...but what if when the images of his actions pre-Maze are forced upon him unbidden he is horrified.

Every instinct of his wants to kill Apo...but he makes the conscious decision to reject the person he was before (basically having a "Total Recall"-esque epiphany).

He doesn't kill his best friend, he embraces him and they return home together.

Maybe, at some point, he admits who he was prior to the Maze and that confession gets mixed results but, in c!Owen's mind he thinks it was the right thing to do, everyone deserves to know.

Not sure how this would affect the finale of the SMP, but it was fun to think about.

Hot take but 'maze' Owen doesn't exist because that is still cOwen. To seperate that period of cOwens life in the maze ignores that fact that the characteristics you see in cOwen post reunion are the same from before but taken to the extreme.

He's always been able to be 'evil'. It's the same as every other character in the series. We don't seperate them like we do with cOwen because his happened to seem so extreme.

But his same mindset of 'I need to protect the people I care about because they're in danger now' that carries through. After the reunion in his head demons are no longer part of that group he wants to protect. You say angels too if you think about it. His perspective changes on who he wants to protect.

The seperation of 'maze' and post reunion Owen forgets even in the post memory phase he had the ability to love like 'maze' Owen had. He released Puddy, he started a small farm, he started to relax. It's all part of him.

There's obviously a lot more to his character than just this though

So! It’s mistrust of humans has only gotten stronger in the years after the show. Wee woo PTSD galore for it.

Will it admit it? No. But it has nightmares about killing Kyle. Sometimes it has nightmares about c!Owen as well.

It will protect Graecie with its life. She’s one of the few humans to earn its trust.
