Trying a new silhouette, inspired by Hermina from @wondervol I don't really have big issues with my body image, but every now and then I find myself hearing an ancient judgemental voice in my head that just asks to be silenced. Someone (I did) convinced me I couldn't wear an outfit like this with my body type. "I'm too busty." "It's too sexy." "Too tight." Until @lalalaletmeexplain wrote about girls learning to cover up to be safe from the male gaze, ánd behavior, from a very early age. Her post was eerily familiar. And it infuriated me. I sat with my anger for a while. I knew I already did a ton of work on the subject. I will never feel called to wear ultra short and tight, skirts, shorts, shirts and dresses. I'm already conditioned far too long to feel miserable, and unsafe (!), in that type of garments. All respect for those who do wear it with confidence. But I do like to explore my boundaries anyway. @wondervol and I have a similar body type. I know she is taller than I, and has much longer legs. But size wise we're close to each other . Shopping in her @Vinted closet is fun for me. I have seen her wearing shorts and tops a lot lately. She looked good, stylish and comfortable. I tried shorts. I hate them. They keep riding up between my legs, and they give me the same experience as jeans often do: warm and sweaty in the waistline. But I do love a decent singlet or tank top, and skirts. Until this year you wouldn't even find me dead mixing this top with a pencil/slim skirt, without me feeling exposed. But watching other women wear it on here, and liking the style, I figured I could try it too. Make it my own. And here we are. I feel pretty, covered enough to meet colleagues, and airy enough to survive 35 degrees Celsius today. The message? You're never too old to learn and challenge yourself. Keep an open mind and get inspired. Make it your own. I'm ready for this day. Let's see what it brings, especially when wearing marine blue. Day 7 of #40days40oufits #letsstartfresh and this morning I first gave #boratherottweiler a full #reiki treatment, in hopes of helping her through the sadness of me going to Brazil without her. Believe me, being apart is quite the ordeal for her. No matter how wonderful her caretakers are, she'll be depressed. And I get that. But I'm going anyway. So, hopefully the reiki will help with her arthritis ánd the pain of seperation. It did make her sleep deep and snore already, so fingers crossed she'll be fine while I'm gone. (I'll miss her too ofcourse but I know she's in great hands.) I also made a start on packing my bags. And I'm happy ánd surprised to say that I still have space left for some essentials that I'm using every day, and all the pairs of #havaianas all my friends and family have ordered for me to bring back for them. My latest #budgetfashion creation. The slippery satin fabric nearly killed my patience, and stiff hands, but was only a 2 euro coupon. The elastic band and thread were estimated at 1 euro, since they were #leftovers from a previous #diyproject. Copper / orange might just be my favorite color for this Fall. 😍 (I need more!) Monday. Nowadays Jacq loves Mondays, because her inner nerd gets to learn new stuff through work every workday. Also her inner creative and organizer get to play every workday. And recently yoga got added to the mix. Guess what, my biggest fear going back to work didn't happen. #fibromyalgia is not being a bitch. I ám vigilantly keeping a strict balance between work, play and rest. I'm also successfully adjusting my diet. And somehow this works, and it makes me incredibly happy. Now to learn to trust this balance is here to stay. Bora couldn't care less. Obviously. She's not too keen on me being away for a few hours a week, but as long as I return quickly, and stay the generous treat dispenser I've always been, she's fine. Goodmorning Monday, how is everyone doing? Its day 11 of #selfquarantine for us, and I decided to get dressed as if I' go to the office. Helps with my motivation. Just like wearing lipstick. After work I will sew a few facemasks for me and some friends. Just as a precaution because no one is ill (yet). I'll make it fashion ofcourse. The #quarantineoutfit of the day is a knitted black dress with black tights and a green scarf in my hair. My under dress has the same color. Because I don't feel all black. Its just the outside. Since I feel colors I decided on bright Spring green. Call me crazy but I feel pretty happy and cheerful. I made peace with isolation. And I'm focusing on the here and the now. I just trust that we'll get through. I have everything I need. Also, please be aware of the fact that criminals relentlessly take advantage of the #corona crisis and are stealing your data and information to take critical organizations as hospitals or food distributors hostage for ransom money. Sunday 22/3/2020, day 10 of #selfquarantine thx to #covid19 I've accepted a number of challenges and one of them involves finding the ultimate quarantine outfit. Today I present to you socially acceptable pajamas in black and white before we step into the sun for a - short - walk, because Bora figured this was an excellent time to start limping. #arthritis s*cks. I'll do a few extra laps on my own because my lungs and brain need it. We made it! Day 40 of #40days40outfits #letsstartfresh and I'm wearing a few of my winter #favorites A short dress I bought about 2 years ago from @primark with black thermo tights and my trusted purple vintage boots. I'm also wearing the dark purple #rebel lipstick from @etos but to be honest I'm not feeling the dark color that much this year. This challenge taught me again how my body looks from different angles. How my body image is mostly positive to accepting what is, and despite my efforts to minimize, repair, recycle and upcycle, I still have way too many clothes for just one person. I could easily do this 80 days without repeating 1 thing. I'm not going to beat myself up about it. Instead I am grateful for the abundance I was not fully aware of. And now I am. I will also go through my wardrobe to either sell or donate the items I don't wear. Anybody interested in a closet sale? I struggled to get to the end this time but I am glad I made it. One box I can tick off as finished for 2019. Taking the Christmas cards to the mailservice is the next on my list today. A gloomy, rainy December day on day 36 of #40days40outfits #letsstartfresh and I fancied a short skirt. Nowhere to go, still looking like I'm off to a date. Typical Jacq, really, wearing short skirts in the wintertime when I can hide the cellulite in thick tights. Made this skirt last year from an ancient old #sewing pattern in @knipmode Knitted top from @primark (2, 3 years old?) Knitted tights from @hemanederland whose tights always were my favorite but sizing, fit ánd quality get worse every season, and prices go up anyway. I really prefer shopping in actual stores from domestic brands but declining quality (for higher prices!) and little options (sizes, colors, designs) force even me to turn to large / online retailers. Do something about it, please. Because my fashion loyalty is definitely for sale. No shame about that here. Outside I wore my trusted "wellies', inside no shoes. I'm still tired and brainfogged from yesterday's adventures, so I'm on the couch, watching Christmas movies in this #ootd I might change into my pink onesie soon. On day 34 of #40days40outfits #letsstartfresh I realized I am a bit more conservative than I'd like to admit. Well, in fashion that is. The sweater I am wearing is a sales find of last year's December collection @kik I loved and love it but I barely wore it because of the shimmering details on the sleeves (swipe to see). The exact same reason I absolutely wanted it. Apparently I don't wear glitter off season. Makes me feel cheap and tacky, while I cheer on other women wearing it, thinking they look awesome. Everything looks better on others, right? (Oh, hello, ancient old patriarchal indoctrination. Get the f out of here!) Anyway, I was looking for yet another socially acceptable daytime pyjama in my closet, and here we are. Feeling this outfit alright.
