Dazey and the Scouts are a Boston, Massachusetts band that sound either British or Scottish. This music is driving punk/power pop, and I can only imagine the atmosphere of this music in a live setting.

I can't help but think of The Pipettes or what Black Country, New Road might sound like if they just forged ahead as a four-piece band. At the same time this has a decided 1980s feel that I'm sure would make Blondie pay attention.

Otto Klammer is also a member of Massachusetts band Dump Him. This LP appears to be self-released.

This song by Dazey and the Scouts is a manifesto about what is it like to be a trans-identifying person in a world that is not yet ready for you. Otto Klammer speaks in a monologue at the end of this queercore banger about the weight you carry when you identify as other, and how modern-day movements end up excluding you. The term TERF used in the song is referring to a subgroup of feminists called trans-exclusionary radical feminists which are people who want to not include trans people in their feminism and spew transphobic rhetoric. This song encapsulates what it means to be trans in today’s society.

Jellyfish Music by Double Libra Jellyfish Music was made between December 2017 & June 2018 in a 300 square foot apartment in the Tenderloin, San Francisco. I had finished college, but I had no career aspirations, & the commercial prospects for my old band were looking more grim every time I looked in the mirror. Something I kept saying to myself in times of weakness was "If everything I believe in brought me to this, what good were those beliefs?" In an attempt to at least fall back in love with making music, I began recording sounds while actively trying to think as little as possible. I improvised only using tools at my immediate disposal. No goals, no second guessing, no going back & fixing it later. I hoped that if I took my conscious mind out of the picture, maybe something divine would step in. These five amorphous song-globs are all that remain of dozens of little ambient sound diary entries. I've been very nervous to release this album because it is a bit odd, but I think it's kinda charming in its own way. There’s a kind of playful hopelessness in these songs. I recommend my technique to anyone who feels like they are in a rut. It is strangely empowering to feel that you can draw structure out of randomness.

Dump Him - “Dykes to Watch Out For”

Even though Western Mass can no longer humblebrag itself as the home of underground favorites Speedy Ortiz and Potty Mouth, that doesn’t mean the oft-forgotten, more affordable, and definitively much more polite side of the Baystate doesn’t have anything left to say through its music. The Northampton four-piece Dump Him have been holding down fort in the area’s Flywheel scene for a couple of years now, and this August, they will be getting a larger stage to share their statements of purpose beyond 413 lines when they release their debut full-length Dykes to Watch Out For on the most excellent queer and independent DIY label Get Better Records (because co-operator Ally Einbinder of Potty Mouth knows where to find the gems in the rough.)

Though this site can’t speak on behalf of the experiences of inclusion inside and out of queer communities, one thing it has observed over the course of 30+ years of living here is that Western Mass’ is constantly challenging its progress for the better, even if it means asking the hard questions from within. For their part, Dump Him amplify that message in their megaphone on the LP’s lead single and title track, as singers and guitarists Mattie Hamer and Jac Walsh, drummer Larz Brogan and bassist Otto Klammer collectively break down the community gatekeeping by storming through it in a punk-pop pile-on. “I refuse to participate/ expectations of ease, half-hearted praise / That got us here in the first place,” Hamer proclaims. Only together do they rise.
