ᛃ About the Woman ––– –– –

Bhaal, born in the tirisfal glades, had always a great talent to draw and mimic the old art of runes like the kirin tor used in their spell books. During the lack of knowledge of those, a mage took the woman in to teach writing and basics about those spells..which were almost impossible to weave, but at least easy to recreate in form on scrolls.

Said talent was swiftly noticed by the prince of lodareon back there. The prince, known as arthas, was hunting down some sort of demon..a demon who had caused massive destruction and horrible outcomes around his and her own home. With a well picked expedition, sh was allowed to travel to nothrend and create those supporting scrolls who were used by the local mages to increase the defenses, heal the soldiers and cause some serious fire damages to those undead foes they had to face every day.

Soon though the prince disappeared and left the camp alone, to search something she wouldn't be able to understand. Instead she kept on creating and practiced handling a sword on the side..just in case of defense, as runes alone might not be enough in those harsh wilds. With the man's return, everyone thought that either their journey would finally find it's end and everyone able to travel home, but none of that was the case. Instead the by now twisted price slaughtered down the camp and burned the ships to ensure that no one would be able to return and give message of the horrible act. Sadly those runes sure turned out to be useless as defense and the amateur like act of holding a sword alone made the crazy driven prince only gifting her a tired smile. She was forced to share the exact same fate as the rest and the bodies got dragged to one of those cursed undead places, to wait for the most godless act ever seen.

Together with a bunch of capable soldiers, they got revived as deathknights to serve under the lich kings heavy leading tone.

While everyone went out to play it's role as pawn of the undead leader, the woman was hold back and dragged to the forges, to do what she had done best in her living times. Forcing and engraving runes...just not on paper, but on those very cursed swords, to allow the knight drawing out power of ice, corrupting plague and inner strength.

The solider fell in battle, as it turned out to be just a farce..a chess game to lure out a simple god damn person. Said person was able to beat the lich king in battle, forcing him to withdraw and allowing those under his grasp to regain their old will and eventually parts of their old memory.

It was eventually the most bitter part of the woman to wake up from a nightmare to stumble right into the next one with realization, that she would never be the same person as before. Still..till this day, she simply tries to support with her rune and little magic skills, while avoiding the living as good as she can..ashamed of her own appearance.

OOC: She is a woman, who had simply seen too much bad things in her life with a mix of betrayal and abuse of her skills and body. Bhaal is overall a gentle being, but it's hard to crack that ice shell and find and warm part. Animals are mostly the key to see a little gentle and not fake smile.

Oh man, it’s been years since I saw a mutuals only blog that I can recall that all their posts were only open to mutuals all the time, but those are few and far inbetween from what I’ve seen.  SOMETIMES there is a writing prompt or meme that is understandably mutuals only, such as “send a symbol and my muse will tell of a happy/sad/etc memory with your muse”. 

Those have to be mutuals, as that takes prior knowledge of the other’s muse to write accurately for. 

If I get some random werewolf wanting a memory of them and Ink together and I’m not familiar with this character I, the mun, have no idea how to write that. That doesn’t mean you can’t PM the mun of the blog  and ask if you can plot with them. If they say no, inquire what it takes to be a mutual. Usually those folks will be open to plotting something with you, especially since a mun who genuinely just wants to write good content rarely reaches out this way.   There’s other instances, and yeah if I specify a prompt is mutuals only there’s usually a reason like the aforementioned one, or 

whatever I’m doing takes a lot of work and I’d rather do that for friends than randoms 

(I see this with art sometimes, and understandably as a moment of one person being happy seeing their character is often HOURS of work on the other person’s part if it isn’t a quick doodle.) I remember a friend did this, and people kept responding on anon without telling who they were or their blog, and he kept saying, “anon, did you forget I drew you already” and linking back to the first anon they drew like it was all the same person. Was pretty funny. But if all the blog is “mutuals only” and you want to interact with that blog? Send them an out of character PM and ask them what it takes to become a mutual. 

Sometimes a blog goes into mutuals only mode because the mun has little IRL time and wants to hold onto their friends during this stressful time and write RPs with existing relationships rather than write with a bunch of randoms. 

Hoooonestly sometimes I’ll do that as randoms in the past turned me into a content generating machine (i.e. I put forth interesting plot and possibilities for my partner to respond to and instead of adding something interesting for me to build upon my partner ONLY reacts ic to what I wrote, and now I’m stuck in this crap rp while I entertain my partner and they put nothing into it. And then they get upset when I abruptly write an ending BECAUSE I AM NOT HAPPY AND I WANT OUT.) So I get that sometimes a mun is stressed and doesn’t want to deal with that possibility, and would rather keep writing with partners they know will give back writing they both enjoy.  Other times I can understand that a muse is in a certain plot point where they don’t want random people altering their muse’s story. With Ink, when Ink-centric plot is happening, you better believe the major players in that plot and I are talking and planning out of character, usually on Discord chat. Randoms I don’t know I usually don’t have a mun relationship with yet, and sometimes they’ll do sh#t just to have bragging rights later of “yeah I was the one who fed poison to Ink and made their face melt off.” For random stuff on the blog, yeah that happens. When I’m building character arcs and defining a species and telling their backstory, randoms doing random stuff and derailing plot is not what I want. So understandably they’d get blocked from that. Hell sometimes I’ve even been messaged by people wanting to be a part of my big plots- and I see later they just did it because they want the notoriety from it and don’t actually want to put in the work of writing and other stuff that’s hard to do on my own. So day one of the campaign rolls around after they’ve promised to do all this help so their muse can be IMPORTANT in the plotline and they either don’t show up at all, or they show up for the beginning, then disappear because they got their “fix” and now I have a random muse rooted in the plot who is now an obstacle to know what to do with and fill in the plot they were meant to because their mun isn’t writing for them anymore. It’s pretty irritating. So I totally understand muns who say, “I want a reliable writing partner I know for this prompt.”  Rarely do I ever see an entire blog that is mutuals only. 

There’s usually SOME posts or plots that are open,

 otherwise how do you meet new mutuals/friends?

If you really want to write with someone and like their blog? Send them an ooc message. Ask them what it takes to be a mutual and if they’d write with you. 

Odds are if you just talk to them mun to mun they’d be flattered and you’ll be taking your first steps to being a mutual.  If they are the kind of blog that isn’t open to anyone but friends they already have, and refuse to give you a chance- why did you ever want to write with this person in the first place? 

Honestly, blogs that do this are so few and far inbetween I forgot they existed. I don’t really watch the name-grabbers I use to when I first started RPing (i.e. a blog who luckily grabs an easy to remember url like @askink or other mainstream well known characters). Those get massively popular, while their content isn’t any better than other RPers. They get overwhelmed with the amount of people trying to interact with them, and a few even let it go to their heads. If you get a blog like that, take a step back. 

Are you trying to interact with them just because they’re a popular well known blog and you want the validation/attention/notariety of being responded to?  Don’t be that guy please.

Yeah, you can send asks and requests, that’s fine. But don’t be the guy that gets butthurt if they don’t respond or have time to write with you. If you pick a popular blog that gets a lot of asks and you’re one in huge sea of popularity surrounding them, that’s par for the course and you know it. Some of my art friends have blogs that get popular and they’ve had people send them asks then guilt them to respond to those asks- do not do this! This makes you a terrible person, and makes these artists not want to run their blog anymore. They’re not being paid to entertain you, their blog is their place, not a tv channel you can go to to demand entertainment and validation. If you are an artist, don’t let people do this to you. Granted, this is the opposite of the “being shy” the original post touched on. If you’re sending nice messages, and asks not demanding they be answered, yeah sure do it. 

Send out lots of asks to all the blogs you’d like to interact with. They may not all be answered, so be happy in the ones that do respond. Send more to the blogs that responded as they’ll probably be the ones that keep responding rather than tossing your asks at already popular blogs that ignore them.

But don’t be a raging soapy washcloth because they don’t respond. Behind that popular url is just another regular person who usually has nothing to do with the franchise, they just got lucky getting the url OR ALREADY SPEND A LOT OF TIME GENERATING CONTENT so they don’t have time to respond to all the asks and requests they get. There are so many other awesome blogs out there who’d jump on the opportunity to be noticed, get asks, and write plot with you. They’re not popular, no. It’s up to you to seek them out, and they can be popular with you. Help them make great content, and you can be in their chosen circle. If you’re only interested in interacting with already popular blogs that want nothing to do with you, that seems like you need to reevaluate what you’re doing here. Odds are you aren’t one of those incurable fanboys/girls  

Go find them. Love them. Become the mutual you always wanted to be.

My Opinion on;

Character in general:  Scotty is a beautiful mess. 

Take the bones of an abused child, and put on him the flesh of an awkward teen still getting used to himself and the world at large with all the chaos that brings. Add a mighty heart that came tattered and torn before adulthood could stitch it together. Add the handicaps of trauma and mood disorder. Give him skin covered ink and scars. Give him the spine of fatherhood and determination. Give him an optimistic hope that some day things will get better even if they seem bleak right now. Give him blood that is stories and bi-racial culture. Give him a host of other things and you’d still have a hard time defining exactly what makes Scot Kerouac an impassioned, embittered and often beleaguered creature. Because while you can fit his pieces together, the soul of this character is just what he does and is with what he’s been allotted. This muse is a fascinating character study finely painted with the brush of humanity. He’s a bit brash, a little mysterious, a little wounded, and a lot drowning in a sea of everything around him.How they play them: One of my favourite things here is how well handled Mel tackles all the things that went into making Scotty as described above, and does so with a razor sharp skill that doesn’t make the character pathetically comedic or so full of squandered angst. He and Beth have quite a bit in common

 I was telling her in IM last night that if I didn’t know rp and someone were to describe the muse to me, I would never once doubt he was anything but 1000% real. Also, imagine my surprise when I came across a muse that like mine, was half-Hawai’ian. And while it flavours the muse it’s never disrespectful or parodied. In short this is one of the most well rounded and convincing muses I’ve ever witnessed, and it’s a privilege to be allowed to play with him.As a fandomless OC, another mun is spoiled for choice in how to interract and Scotty can fit in almost any verse, anywhere.The Mun: I can’t even begin to decide what to say about her, either. We have a lot in common as people too and it’s rare that I find someone who is not only my equal in Snark but that exceeds hope and expectation. Mel replaces House {MD} in my Trinity of people I want to grow up to be, so now it’s Mel, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Fine company if you ask anyone. She is smart, she’s talented and she should really be writing professionally. Another thing that I don’t admit often but that is a 10000% true about the mun is...they make me want to be a better writer, and have over the course of the last couple weeks made me think about making better, more concise choices regarding Beth and her background. With her muse, and with her ooc self, Mel has made me laugh, cry and snort coffee while being in the middle of one of the other two things.

Overall Opinion: I first saw this character when MissHoodoolady put up a promo and I went to read their page. I loved the rules, I loved the name, and hey, much as I hate to admit, J Momoa is pretty to look at. And that fell away the more and more I read, because there was just so much fabulous introspection to read up on, and an unflinching aspect to it. {Really, Mel had me at discussing politics in a friendly and constructive manner}. I am SO glad I did. This is absolutely a breath-taking OC and I cannot begin to speak as highly enough of both mun and muse.And for the record, Kerouac is one of my and my muse’s favourite poets. Scotty is a fitting legacy to the name.

platforms  you’ve  used : don’t @ me okay , it was neopets like 14 centuries ago agfhraf. tbh thats where i learned custom html and page editing with graphics , etc. so i kind of cut my teeth aesthetic and world building-wise there. there was a brief month or so where i discovered that rp was a thing in the game ... but then someone on one of the forums mentioned that i should look into tumblr as a platform. that was probably 13/14 years ago

best  experience :  aside from the wholesomeness of meeting people in this community , honestly i gotta give a nod to the fact that i learned so much and was able to really evolve my creativity skills with likeminded people. i’ve also loved when wholesome collaboration leads to an amazing rp world / group , seeing people love and flourish within a rp group that i made / make and run is a really awesome feeling.

rp  pet  peeves  /  dealbreakers :  it’s always been , for me , muse collecting or fc collecting. like within a group with no muse cap , people who snap up the most Aesthetic fcs and have 8765 of them , barely use them or they’re all the same character seasoned slightly different .. and in the indie world it’s that and when people like ?? duplicate storylines that you worked hard to create with a different muse/mun without even checking? i’ve had so many ideas stolen that way. another one of mine that’s always been an issue is when you put in a lot of effort to establish details and content to give your partner ample things to react and interact with and then they give you back like ... two lines and maybe three syllables of dialogue. and also people fetishising my masc muses and leaving my fem muses to the wind , ick , get ready to catch an unfollow and the dropped threads if i feel that way.

fluff,  angst,  or  smut :  it’s angst , smut and then fluff for me — my muses dont lend themselves to over-softness and fluffiness , i usually have one ( lia flowers rn ) who is a softer character but just happy-life-no-drama-wholesomeness bores me ajkf gimme chaos and something i can delve into and explore the ic reactions , monologues , psychology , etc of it.

plots  or  memes :  i always live in fear of the mistake of over-plotting ... like when you flesh out so many ideas that the concept of writing through the known journey and storyline loses its appeal. i like a good skeleton plot and context and then to let the muses flow as they see fit , i have definitely grown to love the meme threads because i feel like it’s a perfect way to dry-run your muses against another - whether an au or not.
