#i think A Boy mightve wanted to go home with me but unfortunately neither of us drives and i live with my dad #i feel like moving back home has turned me into an actual child #(we were having a very intense social/political/historical conversation at the oneg and then his mom who was his ride was leaving) #(and he was like nah it's cool and his mom was like what so you want [saffodils' mom] to give you a ride?) #(and i was like oh you should probably go huh and he was like yeah) #(he mightve meant nothing by it and to be fair i dont want to Do Anything but damn i would love to live in a world where) #(i can not only drive but also awkwardly talk about society/politics/history with a nice jewish boy while i am doing it) #(it is completely impractical for me to have my own place at this point: anywhere that's walkable here is expensive) #(but i miss having my own place in cincinnati and i wish i'd had more awkward conversations with nice jewish ppl there while i could) #i'm going to a passover get-together with some lgbts who are at various stages of converting to judaism or being secular but #kinda liking traditions #so. many nice jewish people are in my future #the key is i think to have good conversations with them

i made date charoset and bought kiddush wine bc i couldnt find maneschweitz for my flatmates family and i keep wondering if they have matzah and if the meal will be kosher or have any chametz and what the seder will be like bc theyre not religious and neither am i really but they dont really do anything and my flatmate doesnt even know the names of the holidays and i had to send my haggadah so that they had one at all and i brought my kippot but my flatmate said their sister would be weirded out if anyone but me wore them idk its going to be different from what im used to

BMC allowed housing societies to conduct vaccination drive within premises

BMC has permitted the housing societies to tie up with the private hospitals to conduct the Covid 19 vaccination drive within the premises, subject to the availability of the vaccine stock. The vaccines will come at a cost fixed by the government for the private hospitals and the hospitals need to ensure that all the Covid protocols are followed properly.

A spokesperson from the Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association said that many societies are keen to take on the vaccination drive but were waiting for the government orders. Suresh Kakani, the additional municipal commissioner of health is reported to have said that as many as 75 private hospitals have been notified of the plan by the government and more hospitals will be given permits as and when they apply for it following all the protocols. Those who, however, want to go for free vaccination, can come to any of the 227 government centres that BMC will be setting up.

Housing societies to be removed from the ambit of Co-operative Act, plans Government

The government of Maharashtra plans to remove the housing societies from the ambit of the Co-operative Act. Though the plan is still in the very early stages, it has been reported that the government is thinking of options like if it can be brought under charity commission amongst others. However, the CHS federations and associations have expressed their disagreement with the plan.

Ramesh Prabhu, the Maharashtra Societies Welfare Association (MSWA) chairman said, “The co-operative department has an established mechanism to address the grievances obtained from different housing societies. However, if it’s been removed from the Co-Operative Act ambit then the complainants may have to go to the civil court and other courts, which will only lengthen the process. Since these courts already have responsibility for other case hearings.”

Onegate rolls out new ‘Jaagte Raho’ feature

onegate, powered by oneapp, has rolled out a new feature for its onegate app. The name of the feature is Jagte Raho and it is aimed at keeping the gatekeepers alert when the rest of the society is in deep sleep (night-time). In this feature, the admin will be able to set an alarm for the gatekeeper at a chosen interval. As per the set time, the alarm at the gatekeeper’s app will go off which will be required to reset manually.

The admin will be able to get a detailed report at an interval chosen by him/her and will also be able to check the data in real-time. After the numbers of housing societies approached the solution provider to provide a solution to ensure that their gatekeepers are active and alert at night time and their family and society are safe even when they are sleeping, the company rolled out this new feature.

Posting this in honor of Shabbat

This is a beautiful traditional liturgical poem that is said as part of the Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat service

There are tons of versions and I love most of them (and even wrote one of my own at one point) so this will only be the first of several

It is a poem of longing for closeness with G-d, and so typically is set to hauntingly beautiful and longing melodies

This gorgeous version of it by Josh Warshawsky has a special place for me recently, because it is the first happier song I was able to listen to after Oct. 7th and it reminded me that happiness, including Jewish joy, is still present and strong. It literally lifted me out of that grief space and into oneg Shabbat for the first time in well over a month. I hope it brings you as much comfort coming into Shabbat as it has brought me, and helps lift your soul closer to Hashem, to holiness, and to this sacred rest.

As a Jewish biologist & general outdoorswoman, I love Tu B'shvat.

She is a tiny little minor holiday meant to give rythm to our ancient cycles of harvest & offerings, and that only makes me love her more. It really just adds to the normalization of environmental stewardship in judaism that I adore so much.

I love how often my academic, self-acquired, and ancestral knowledge is so commonly called upon in my community, and how they laugh as I bust at the seams on Tu B'shvat as I blather on about ecosystems, foraging, and sustainability more than any other day -- at least at the oneg.

OFFICIALLY! JEWISH!

The last two? three? days have been a wild ride, low lows and high highs. But I made it through my beit din and the mikveh, received an aliyah and pulled my dad up to the bimah with me so we did it together, he brought champagne and orange juice and cookies for an oneg and everyone partied, and then we partied even harder a few hours later for Purim. As my dad keeps saying, "Life is good! Who knows what will happen tomorrow, but right now, life is good."

Not bad for a first hamantaschen attempt! I have ideas for more effective jam dyking (heheh) in future. It meant a lot to share them with my dad and that he liked them so much, and my partner loved them too. These ones are cherry, I think I'll be workshopping both more traditional fillings and also more creative ones for next year. I'm happy to share the recipe and I think it's actually a stunning recipe for being gluten-free.

I didn't get a picture because it was Shabbat but I also made cholent for the first time! Delicious, a veritable meat party, next time I will be more heavy-handed with the beans and try adding rice.
