here is a snippet I wrote for Ayden; the idea came to me while making this post. i’m so excited to share it with writeblr :)

Averys slammed his fists, the porcelain clanked spilling tea on the mahogany table, “we signed a treaty, what happens across the river is none of your concern!”

“How can you say that!?” Ayden quickly replied mirroring his fathers tone. “Have you seen the conditions they are living in! The women and children are dying in this cold, they have no wood for fire, no fur for warmth!” But the minute the words escaped his mouth, he instantly regret them.

Averys arched a brow at his son, his face as fiery as the flames of the candle hanging behind him, “and how would you know all of this?”

Silence engulfed the room as Averys eyes locked onto Ayden’s. For a second, Ayden could hear the rain tap against the windows before his heart began beating rapidly and the palms of hands began to sweat.

“Did you cross the river?”

The thunder roared as ferociously as his heart pounded against his chest. Ayden was not a liar and he would not become one today. But his silence screamed louder than any of the words he shouted. He was guilty, not for committing crime or treason, but for caring about a people, an “enemy.” 

Flames danced in Averys’ eyes, hungry to punish, “You could have been hurt, or worse killed! You have no idea of the wars. We made laws to protect you!”

“That’s not the point,” Ayden felt defeated.

Avery had come up with the perfect plan:  Duplicate Martin Beck’s identity when he showed up at the workshop again; the bastard wouldn’t even notice, the way he only seemed to talk about his newly acquired spot in the vault, cars and his perfectly green front yard. Then, Avery would sit and wait. Wait until the sirens blared through the speakers so he could run up the pristine hills of Sanctuary with his dirty boots and claim his unrightful place in Vault 111. One thought ran through his mind. "Fuck Martin Beck"

What does your character subconsciously want? What would make them feel complete, if possible? Why?

Avery subconsciously wants to be accepted and feel like he’s part of society.

Before the war Avery always struggled to make ends meet. Coming from a poor family he never had as many opportunities as other people, and the financial landscape that was the us after the 2040′s solidified economical struggles for a lifetime. 

Avery grew up knowing he couldn’t dream of much.

So he ended up becoming greedy. The grass was always greener on the other side, and he wanted to ruin it because he didn’t have it either. He felt like his situation was unfair (and it was!), and on the last couple of years before the bombs dropped he started taking action. They were aimed at survival of course, but most of that, to be seen as someone who survived; above everything bad that was going to happen, he would survive with everyone else who had paid filthy dollars to secure a place in a Vault, and that would be the way society would repay him. 

That desire to be seen vanishes though when he emerges in 2281 because no one plays  him for a fool, and for the first time he feels accepted by others.

For Bobby and Avery: I, O, S, and Z?

I) 2 things they really enjoy.

Bobby enjoys sitting by the Potomac. Either if he’s feeling sad, or wants to appreciate a pretty sunny day, you can see him sitting by the broken stones that separate the once streets from the river banks. The sound of the water flowing and the sight of fish coming up to the surface to feed on seeds (after Project Purity) are things he appreciates.

Avery enjoys telling stories. Look, I know the guy doesn’t look like someone you would want to hang out with, he’s pretty scary. But when he’s sitting by the counter at the Dugout Inn, he’s going to spill some pre-war stories people will absolutely love. He enjoys it the most because he notices people pay attention to him, ask him questions. It makes him feel alive.

O) What’s their dream profession?

In the Vault Bobby was a lab assistant to Jonas for until he had to leave. He truly liked being there, and I think the G.O.A.T. got his profession just right. 

Avery never had job aspirations other than making money, so nothing would make him settle.

S)  Is there something in their life they regret?

Bobby regrets all the arguments he got into with James after they met. Had he known they wouldn’t have the rest of their lives to sort the differences created after his leaving Vault 101, he wouldn’t even had started all those arguments in the first place.

I think Avery mostly regrets surviving the War. When he entered Vault 111 he had no idea he was going to be frozen and waken up after so long, and to a world so much worse than before. He deals with the Wasteland pretty well, but that doesn’t mean he likes it. Maybe he shouldn’t have stolen a place in the Vault anyway.

Z) Do they have an item that means a lot to them?

Bobby has a toy soldier he carries with him at all times, and it’s dear to him. He’s had it since he was a kid, and took with him once he left Vault 101. After some time though, while he’s doing quests for Little Lamplight, he gives the little toy soldier to Mayor MacCready as way to thank him for being nice (yes, the toy soldier MacCready gives the Sole Survivor after completing his personal quest. Yes, he’s lying in my headcanon about the toy being given by Lucy, but this is an explanation for another post). 

Avery has a golden thin necklace he never takes off. Some may say he’s attached to it because it’s made of gold and yes, maybe so. But out of everything pre-war he’s stripped himself off of, the necklace was the only thing that stayed, and at some point he never takes it off. So... lucky necklace?
