Day 9 of My Pokémon Yellow Nuzlocke Challenge!
A whole couple of real life days have passed without any gameplay, so I’m not counting them in my record.
We’re heading down Route 9 towards Rock Tunnel and then on to Lavender Town. Right off the bat, Belle levels up and evolves into a Weepinbell. Awesomeness! Now to find a Leaf stone to evolve her more later. Crispy had me worried for a minute when he took some Fury Attacks from a couple Beedrill, but he not only handled it like a champ, he also leveled up twice in that one battle, so yay!
We also get an encounter here:
Route 9 Encounter—Nidoran ♂/ Lawrence
Lv. 16
Hp: 41
Attack: 27
Defense: 21
Speed: 21
Special: 19
Barely got 1 step into the grass and boom! here’s a little Nidoran ♂to work with. Now, I already have my Nidoqueen, Lily, but it’s good to have a Nidoking as a fairly comparable back-up just in case something happens (let’s just pray it doesn’t). Anyway, we’ll keep knocking down these trainers and getting stronger on our way over to the entrance into Rock Tunnel.
Yipes! I almost lost Plowboy there to another Diglett! Being faster that your opponent can have its downsides in the case of both using 2-turn moves—I Dig underground, they Dig underground; I pop up and whiff, they pop up and hit. At least Belle and Mike are having a good time ripping apart the other Poison- and Ground-types and gaining levels just fine. Which makes me realize that I’ve been neglecting Zippy a bit. Whoops! Better fix that coming up soon. First, our next encounter comes in a patch of grass above the Pokémon Center next to Rock Tunnel’s entrance.
Route 10 Encounter—Machop/NachoMan
Lv. 16
Hp: 50
Attack: 35
Defense: 25
Speed: 17
Special: 18
Machop is fun as a good early game Fighting-type; though, because his evolved form, Machoke, only has a mediocre base stat total (BST), I would have to find another option before the Pokémon League. Here’s the issue with trade evolutions (Machoke, Haunter, Graveler, and Kadabra require being traded to evolve to their highest stages) and my case—I don’t really have anyone to trade with that I know of. I’m pretty sure my brother didn’t get any of the virtual console games; and being out in the middle of nowhere, it’s a shot in the dark to find someone else who can trade with in my area. Basically, I’ll be able to access a Hitmonlee soon anyway and NachoMan will likely not see much use. Oh well. 🎶Nacho, Nacho Man! Salsa, cheese, and chips; it’s Nacho Man!🎶
Now let’s make sure to heal up before we head into the long dark of Rock Tunnel. The way is dark, it was made by those who are bats, and the Zubat keep it; the way is dark…
Another thing I need to do is pull some positive vibes together so I don’t end up with a Zubat as my encounter because that would be…painful. Oh and knockout this other trainer here for more experience.
Rock Tunnel Encounter—Geodude/Cephas
Lv. 16
Hp: 40
Attack: 30
Defense: 40
Speed: 14
Special: 15
(Charlie Brown voice): I got a rock.
Jokes aside, a rock/ground-type like Geodude could prove useful for the Fire Gym in the distant future. Let’s hope we make it that long; Rock Tunnel is a labyrinthine mess without using Flash.
Yet, we’re made of tougher stuff! We don’t need to waste a move-slot on Flash especially when Gen 1 has conveniently given us the outline of walls and ladder locations. Gen 3 remakes fixed this difficulty issue by giving the player a small little circle of light around your character and leaving the rest black and blank; made it much harder to navigate if you didn’t have Flash on one of your Pokémon. Though the Gen 3 remakes also had a bunch of other fixes and QoL improvements on top of that so, whatever; maybe I’ll transfer my old Pokémon over and do a Nuzlocke of LeafGreen next and get a proper comparison.
Man! These trainers are either just terrible or my team is somehow getting better. Had some problems dealing with some Hikers’ Geodudes actually having Rock Throw finally but then I switched in Lily and punted them into the ceiling. Furthermore, the wild Pokémon are simply EXP fodder for my team as Zubat, Geodude, and Machop all fall easily to Zippy, PlowBoy and Belle, and Mike respectively. Basically, when we hit Lavender Town and Celadon City, we should be in tip-top, battle-ready shape.
So, with a little bumping around and battling our way through, we make it out of Rock Tunnel. There’s a few more trainers here just outside the exit, but I think I’ll save here and leave the rest for tomorrow.

brainstorming/reminder fer me if i ever want to do a voidpet nuzlocke:
normal nuzlocke rules retained: name every pet, if it gets to 0 health it dies. im thinking that potions/food/trinkets can be used in the open, and dungeons already facilitate the "no healing items" rule by default. angel diaries are allowed but like. no one has those in droves
added way to get attached, you must accessorize each pet. i have no idea if this will be effective but i think it will be funny.
the goal is to get through every dungeon (without going over the level cap)
said level cap would probably be the either the smallest or largest (might depend on how hardcore one wants to make it) level provided by the dungeon descriptions, with the exception of aura caves (and maybe psyche plains?), whose level cap should probably be half the maximum level in the desc. because well. no one's beating a dungeon with level 1 pets
encounters: one is allowed one encounter per setting/backround. like, you get to catch one pet in the Institute Entrance, one pet in Snake Road Institute Rock, etc. in this way, you can sort of decide which pet to choose (and maybe compare thetotals while you're at it) but the choice still relies mostly on chance
i think shiny clause is a thing in that if you happen upon a setting for the first time and one of them is a vivid, you must catch that one
the flip side of that is that every time you see a vivid, you have to catch it, but vivid rates are fairly high so i don't think that will be fun
there can be a happy medium where maybe this applies only to mythical or absurd vivds
in this way seeing red is banned for encounters, you can still probably grind in it though
other encounters and non-encounters:
duplicating is not an encounter, and will probably only be useful for grinding.
the first gluttonies that you spawn near the dumpster are one extra encounter.
If an event is spawned by volo's donation of someone catching or releasing an absurd vivid, you get one more encounter in the hometown area, even if you've caught a judgement/grumpy there already. However, all of these events only count as an encounter once (example: a glee event happens, and you catch one glee. if a glee event happens again, you do not get another encounter
the something park trails are an encounter on their own, but even if the species rotates, you do not get new encounters, so you'll probably want to see which species is on rotation before going there
trading is not an encounter
seasonal appearences (like merry? i think?) aren't grounds for a new encounter
the first abandonment/abandonment group one releases counts as one encounter
other extra challenges may include: beating annabelle at a certain level cap (im saying 40 at most), having to beat any of the snake road bosses if you see them no matter what level you're at (which probably just locks snake road for a while), if you get a demon diary you have to use it, etc
that's probably it. the way i see it now it is as much a strategy to play well with powerful pets as it is to maxmize one's encounters, like putting a legendary object in the dumpster, or releasing many pets at once for abandoments

For the impending nuzlocke I'm going to be posting a kind of diary type update thing telling the story as it progresses, because I've been thinking too hard about like the original Pokemon Hard Mode and other comics. I know the art in Hard Mode wasn't really good, at all, but I'm still not really a comic artist, so I'll just be writing and have some occasional images.
I'll make a more in-depth post soon with the rules I'll be using as well as a tag for the series that you can block if you don't want to see a bunch of posts about it.

NUZLOCKE DIARIES:
DAY 6:
After defeating Brawley, we gain the ability to use Flash and deliver our letter to Steven who likes hanging out in caves apparently. We make our way over to Slateport where Team Aqua is causing some trouble because they think drowning everyone is a great idea, we beat them and deliver our goods. On our way to Mauville town, we come across .......Brandon! who we once again pummel into the pavement. Once in Mauville, we find Wally who really wants to beat Surge but his dad won't let him in there so he asks us to battle him to show how much stronger he has become, which meant picking up his Ralts and smashing his head into the wall made me feel like more of an asshole than it normally would. Also on our way we also caught a Gulpin which I named POS cause it's such a lame ass design even for Pokemon and an oddish who I named Radical, I will also be replacing Dora and Erin (sorry, we never witnessed you not sucking) with Radical and Shinzi for type advantage and so m o r e g r i n d i n g.

The Beginning
4th October 2022
I'm Chris! This is just a silly little diary of a massive Nuzlocke challenge I am going to attempt to complete inspired by the youtuber - chaotic meatball.
The premise is that I do a Nuzlocke of a massive range of pokemon games without using repeat pokemon. That means if I catch a pidgey in one game I cannot use it in another, even if it dies!
The rules are standard hardcore nuzlocke rules:
1. If a Pokemon faints its gone and must be released/graved.
2. Only the first Pokemon encountered on each route can be caught. If a pokemon is caught in any game this cannot be used again in any other game OR attempt. This means its possible to completely lose this challenge if all viable pokemon are lost.
3. All pokemon caught must be nicknamed.
4. Levels are capped for each major milestone mostly gyms.
5. No items used in battle.
6. Games played on set mode.
The planned games include so far. (Completed in Bold)
Firered, leaf green, Heart gold, soul silver, emerald, diamond, pearl, platinum, black, white, black 2, white 2, X, Y, alpha sapphire, omega ruby, sun, moon, ultra sun, ultra moon, sword, shield, scarlett or violet.
I love the idea of nuzlockes but I am rubbish at them so the aims are to become a better nuzlocker, use pokemon I rarely get to and get a bit more thrill out of my Pokemon games.
I’m excited to start and will begin with FireRed tomorrow!

Day 3 of My Pokémon Yellow Nuzlocke Challenge!
Today will be a bit shorter than others since I do the church thing and then use Sunday as a calm, lazy napping day. Still, I can see where the day gets me.
First up will be finishing up these trainers and then getting my encounter for the route.
Route 3 Encounter—Spearow/AngryBoi
Hp: 30
Attack: 18
Defense: 12
Speed: 22
Special: 13
You know, that’s not a bad Pokémon to have. Actually, in Gen 1 games, Spearow has better moves overall than the moves the Pidgey line gets. At least in the early game. And having another flying type for a while will be useful.
And now I’ve made it to the Pokémon Center just outside Mt. Moon. Here I have a conundrum. You see, inside the Pokémon Center is a man who offers to sell you a Magikarp. I did state that Pokémon offered as gifts are on the table but this isn’t a gift, I guess. Okay. No longer confused. Buyable Pokémon are off the table. Sorry Game Corner! (Not sorry.) But we may have to try something that requires an Abra that I may have to purchase from the Game Corner. However this would be just for fun though and not part of the challenge.
So…I took a few steps into Mt. Moon and what do I encounter? This freaking pest meme of a Pokémon:
Mt. Moon Encounter—Zubat/BlindBart
Lv. 9
Hp: 27
Attack: 15
Defense: 12
Speed: 15
Special: 13
Ah well, at least I have another battle fodder option, I guess? Hello, Geodude and Paras. Where were you two when I needed you? And hey! I found an HP Up item to use so that’s great. And hello Clefairy…you could’ve been a fantastic catch so I could trade you for a Mr. Mime later. Oy vey…
I’m close to running out of MtnDew Spark. Dang. Tonight really isn’t going my way so far. And I’ve got a lot, and I mean A LOT, of cave to cover. For the most part it’s just trying to get out without being too fatigued and run out of health before the end. I’ll see if I can do it. I’m already on healing run 3 and I’ve barely made it through floor 1.
Oh, Lily tried evolving but I denied it for now because she’ll learn Poison Sting next level instead of in like 2-3 more levels. While I’m in Mt. Moon, I’m going to look for a Moon Stone to evolve her further soon. Oop! I immediately found one. Perfect! Having her as a Nidoqueen so soon will make her a super useful member for quite a bit longer.
I guess I was closer to the end than I thought so I’ll just grab my Fossil and beat up Jessie&James. This time I’m grabbing the Dome Fossil. I know, I know praise Helix. (For those who don’t know, that is a reference to a Twitch Plays Pokémon run many years ago which had a very useful Omastar that was originally the other fossil I’m not taking this time.)
Dang it you Team Rocket goobers! You’re not supposed to Poison poor Stinky! It’s just trying its best to beat your Ekans up. Good thing I have a couple Antidotes. Also, let Lily Double Kick your Meowth’s teeth in; she’s so close to learning Poison Sting and then evolving. And knock it off with the Smog attacks! Zippy doesn’t need to be poisoned too…oh. Too late. Dang it, Jessie&James!
Now that that’s over, Lily has evolved and we need to heal up a bit before exiting. And now that we’ve exited, let’s grab the couple items out here and catch our Route 4 encounter!
Route 4 Encounter—Rattata/Goober
Lv. 12
Hp: 31
Attack: 21
Defense: 16
Speed: 23
Special: 11
Not really what I was hoping for, but rules are rules. At least I don’t have to really grind to get it up to a better level.
Before I turn in for the night, I’m going to take out the two Gym Trainers in preparation for beating Misty tomorrow and then receiving the Bulbasaur in Cerulean. Plenty to do tomorrow and I’ll have to start out by getting all prepped for the battles to come. Love ya’! -Emily

Small update. Writing this down so I have to hold myself to it. I will be continuing on with the notebook/diary style entry, since that really felt the best. But, I’ll be doing them once per day, detailing everything from story events to new pokemon that I liked looking at. With that said. I’m doing a pokemon infinite fusion nuzlocke! Wish me luck!

Pokémon Shining SoulSilver dev diary 1
So I’m not a developer for pokemon or anything don’t @ me about sh:t. But I’ve been working on a hack/fake game/edit thingy for a while now and am posting cause I’m tired and want opinions
So- basics of it are taking a soul silver rom and changing it up to make it more realistic (ie smarter trainers, pokemon living on routes that feel natural for their biology), more unreliable- this time around there’s a greater scene of pokemon in a route so you don’t exactly what you’ll get- especially with someone (meaning me) who loves Nuzlocke type playing.
As well as changing up evolutions a bit, especially when it comes to Pokémon previously unable to evolve due to trading. As well as adjusting typing, such as finally having Charizard and Gyarados be dragon types! As well as incorporating more dual types- especially in the early gens who were still figuring themselves out
So, currently I’m up to grasps on all pokemon type changeups, evolutions, abilities and the like, part of the way through the monotony of picking where certain Pokémon live which is fine for like forests but SS/HG has a lot of water routes and areas and I am getting sick of it.
So, to break up that boring task I’ve also been working on upping the antics with trainers, leaders, grunts, and the rival. So far I’ve upped the level cap a little to make areas a little harder and have definitely diversified teams- even for gym leaders, fisherman and big catchers. I hate running into that one guy with six effing magikarps so now he has one, and a goldeen, a tangela, a wooper, a croconaw, a dragonair, etc- pokemon that would live near and around water, even if they aren’t water types.
The most fun I’ve had was doing the gym leaders- who while I’ve stuck with the level they were at- all of them have six Pokémon. And while many have the main type, more have dual types or types that fit the part. Such as Whitney having fairy and psychic types with her normals or Morty having dark types.
Because of that players won’t be able to just coast through the gym based on your ace of one type- you’ll have to be ready for anything
I’ve also added more double battles- because I love double battles ♥️
This was all kinda done because SS is my favorite of the games because your Pokémon actually walks with you- and the story is simple enough with a basic team rocket villain and classic ahat rival- unlike the later games which are convoluted to the excess. Problem was I was getting bored of the classic play through and I didn’t like that in fully randomized play throughs it felt like it was randomized- especially in encounters. Which can be interesting- but also it takes you out of the story to run into a Gyarados flopping around on Mt Mortar or a bell sprout on the ocean routes!
This was mainly just done for me- but as times gone on I am thinking of posting it as a fan game- at least once I play through the game and make sure it’s beatable. I have thought of making two versions- one with different teams for trainers but same for routes- namely cause I never want to redo the routes ever again- but that might be a future thing.
I mainly wanted to post this cause I’m excited, have no one in my life I can gush about pokemon to, and did actually want some public opinions.
So, starters- I wanted to move away from the classic grass, water, fire, however have found it difficult to find pokemon that fit into a tri-typing. While I was considering like ground, water, electric or something of the sort, I’ve since moved on to another idea. While retyping a few pokemon the starters all ended up dual typing and I want an opinion on what I should go with- I already have my idea on it- but let’s let the algorithm choose
Entry 2
So- in an attempt to check if it was working, I accidentally erased my progress on the Pokémon and trainers 😢 and have spent much of today rewriting the typings for my Pokémon. A lot of Pokémon in the hack have alternate typings and most excitedly alternative evolutions and evolution methods. This was mainly because it’s impossible to do trade evolutions- as well as I wanted to give formerly useless (non-evolutionary) pokemon extra stuff. If I do plan to post this for people to play- which I’m still deciding on- I plan to list out how they evolve- but not what they evolve into- giving it a layer of mystery. And a lot of Pokémon now evolve with friendship/happiness as well as classic evolution methods. This is because I’ve always liked the idea that Pokémon can control their own evolutions- to an extent. Similar to the show in that aspect.
The most notable examples are Vulpix, Growlithe, Nidorina/Nidorino, and Porygon2 who all evolve because of friendship- as well as several others
Changing types has been fun as well, and the gender ratio to be more even. I want to do my Lesbianlocke (female/gender neutral pokemon only Nuzlocke) and not have to give up my starter because I got effed over by sexist game developers
The one big issue I’ve had is I can’t readily change my starters with PPRE so I might have to find another hacking tool to fix that. The other problem is- for some reason- the tool I’m using doesn’t include fairy types. Which has been frustrating as I really wanted to make certain types fairy- including the Chilorita line to Grass/Fairy- which would help as their are currently more than a few new dragon type Pokémon in the game. I don’t know quite how to fix it yet- and I don’t think I have any completely dragon types so other type advantages will stick around- however that has been difficult to overcome
If anyone has an alternate hacking tool for a soul silver rom I’d love to hear it-hmu in the replies
