Whumpmas in July Day 14

Tumblr deleted this when I was nearly done and I want to cry. So take two at @whumpmasinjuly day 14. Tagging five people because I love them all way too much to leave any of them out.

@ocsickficsideblog Is sickfic whump? Well, she's written some good ass whump too. And Alistair is the only man I have ever loved (not romantically though. He's too dumb). And Jasper and his trauma is soooo good. Coming to terms that his mom wasn't perfect. Learning to live without her. And Alistair and his aggression and hot temper. Learning to calm down and fearing being like his dad. Turning out to be more of a stupid dork than a violent thug. And fucking Julius who shows love is blind and doesn't realize he's dating the biggest idiot. Her writing is SO FUCKING GOOD and she has a really good way of showing trauma and recovery. I'll be first in line to buy her novels. Fighting through the crowd at a book signing even though I'm currently texting her. April's #1 fan. Plus she's a fucking awesome friend and I love her. Got me to rediscover my love for writing when my motivation was burning in Hell.

@ashintheairlikesnow Dude. Amazing. I never thought I'd enjoy BBU stories but Chris converted me. I binge-read Danny's full story in like a day and I'm dying (but also dreading) to know what happens to Ora. Bram made me cringe so bad. So good at writing despicable villains. Bram, Branch, Grant. Evil. Fuckfaces. But then there's Ashley. I am madly in love with Ashley and that makes me concerned about my taste in women. Does a great job at showing recovery and then throwing more misery at him and we all love to hate her for it. Seriously, so fucking good.

@haro-whumps I was initially opposed to reading the whole legalized slavery thing but I am loving their Group Whumpees series. I would die for Nyla and Lilah, and I love all the slaves. Greyson needs to take a mental health day, poor dude. I want all the slaves to be happy and free. Along with initially being skeptical of Galo. A dude who approves of a system that denies rights to people based on the parents they're born to?? But he grew on me. God, that sounds bad out of context. I'm enjoying watching Galo navigate through and deal with family ties and trauma of people he's never thought about, trying to be wise and rational when all this is thrust on him. Rot in Hell, Bethany. P.S. I'm amazed to see your art progress and improvement. I freaking adore your drawings of Rat and Bijou.

@whumping-every-day was one of the first blogs I followed. I followed for the vampire whump and stayed for awesome writing. Writes trauma and recovery really, really well. And the whump is brutal. Poor Mutt. Poor Ash. Poor Gabriel. And the vampire healing system, how they need blood to heal and Ash was given only enough blood to stay alive? Dude, fuck. Good whump. And public torture makes me cringe so bad but I love it. And the doctor talking about Mutt still breaks my heart. I'm loving all these series. And I'm in love with Pasha.

@albino-whumpee THEIR ART?? IS SO GOOD??? I scroll through their blog and just stare at the art. Equal parts envy and admiration. Do I want to be you or be staring at your art in a gallery? Expert. Won't be surprised if they're a graphic novel illustrator or a professional animator/storyboard artist in a few years. Or days. Their art is that good. The emotions in the expressions. I'm autistic and have trouble gauging emotion based on facial expression but in their drawings it's clear as day. Fear is palpable, joy is obvious and radient. And that you draw so much of this good shit for free is astonishing. People should be paying thousands for a portrait made by you at an auction. And the stories with Ray. There's so little but I want it so bad. Cold jerk with a good heart. And a doctor? Ecen better! Just you wait. You're making fan art for everyone else but you're gonna receive some mediocre fan art from me in the near future. Also I stare at that drawing of Maribel for several hours a day.

“by my cuteness?” he asks, preparing to do the ‘bbuing bbuing’ aegyo, but he puts his hands down before doing it for real, laughing freely. he hums, thinking about the possible answers to this. “just joking! i don’t think i’m that cute.” but he puts a lopsided smirk that indicates he might or might not think of himself as cute. “well, i think fans are like us, liking specific people for specific reasons. it can be looks, can be skills. i can try being more well-rounded, be it in my skills or my personality, so that when i debut i will be ready to catch them all hearts! i’m certain that not everyone is going to like me, though, since there are also others, fellow members and idols. so it all boils down to preferences.” he rubs his chin, as though deep in thoughts. “so actually, it’s more about me being chosen by fans, as opposed to the other way round. so sadly, my plan to catch ‘em all may or may not fall through. but hey, i’m optimistic! i can catch ‘em, some of ‘em!”

if another company were to offer you a contract, would you continue to stay with legacy? — a question sent by @lgcjaesun.

that’s one hell of a question to answer, placed right after the pokémon dream team one. he furrows his eyebrows in a pensive manner, trying to sort the answer in the most polite fashion. this, after all, is a reply that might make a perception of himself. make or break, really. being with legacy has been a part of him that defines; it is something that he’d regard as a part of his identity. that’s been how he’d describe himself, as a legacy trainee for the past nearly three years, and that kind of sticks. he’s had his ups and downs with the company, all those months spent onto his training to become an idol one day, hopefully. “to become their trainee?” he asks to confirm if he’s got the question right. “no, i don’t think so. i don’t think so if it’s to become a debuted idol either, unless legacy decides to kick me out because of one reason or another. i think it’s a mutual symbiosis between the company and me. like, i’ve exerted a lot of efforts to train here, and legacy has invested a lot of their resources into my growth as a person and a possible idol in the future, too. there’s a form of attachment here, i think, and i don’t know where i’d be if not in legacy. so in short, that’s a no, yeah.”

what sacrifices would you make to debut? — a question sent by @lgcezra.

“uh,” he forms a pensive pout as he faces this question. it’s another tough question to answer, and he knows it’s going to sound very cheesy, but he’s trying. it’s better than not providing any answer at all, he believes, and he tries to formulate the reply as much as he can so that he doesn’t sound too generic, or too pompous. eyebrows knitted together, he licks his lower lip before suturing the haphazard list into something more cohesive. “i think this answer won’t be much of a difference compared to other trainees. after all these years spent on training, i believe my fellow trainees and i would give up just about everything we have to debut, but in my case, i’ll be facing some other challenges. maybe i’m risking my relationship with my father, depending on how it unfolds. he only agreed to my debuting because i’ve promised him something. he’s still not in accord fully, though. i’d also make other sacrifices necessary, as asked from me. maybe my biggest compromise is to be less of myself, and more of what the company wants out of me. i’m pretty sure there’s a persona that an idol will have to wear in front of their fans, and i’m not going to be an exception. i like being as genuine as i can, but i believe if it’s what it takes to be in the industry, i’ll do it.”

Francesco Gabbani - “Occidentali’s Karma” 6th place

God, my relationships with Eurovision would-be winners are always so damn’ed. The one time they provide us with an OBVIOUS WINNER that I’m 100% into and he barely stumbles into a 6th place? ugh.

Still, I too was ~a little~ annoyed when I saw THAT final performance. I’ll explain why later, but know that my friend circle and I were all drinking the Francesco kool-aid and we all knew that, after that performance, Salvador was 100% going to beat him. (as in, Salvador was only NOT winning if he somehow died during Denmark’s performance, by being sucked into the gaping black hole that is Anja Nissen’s be-tooth-gapped maw.)

Hence, as the projected and actual winners, Francesco and Salvador will forever be associated with one another in my mind. Yes, I ranked Salvador aeons ago, but this is roughly where he would have placed had he not emerged from his special snowflake pupa as the Supreme Avatar of Eurosnobtitude and Redditorial Neckbeardedness. REAL MUSIC MY ARSE. git.

Anyway, there are narrative parallels between the two: While Salvador’s apparent victory against The ‘Biggest Problem’ In Eurovision (is it a big problem though? most convenience songs in Eurovision are harmless fun at best and temporary annoyances at worst, as long as we aren’t exposed to too many of them at once) actually bared the existance of a much, much bigger problem (audiences can be manipulated through conceptualism), so too does Francesco’s downfall boil down to a series of massive ironic paradoxes.

“Occidentali’s Karma” is an anti-internet culture anthem which warns against fake-intellectualism and the appropriation of memes and neo-oriental trends by pasty, white Basics. Of course, it is highly ironic that it is that all of these elements played a rolet in Francesco’s own downfall in Eurovision:

re: fake-intellectualism: it is pretty telling that Francesco wasn’t just beaten by a pube-bearded, man-bunned hipster from Lisbon, but one who was shown reading a Woody Allen biography (acol) in his postcard?

re: anti-internet culture: it will never cease to make me chuckle how “Occidentali’s Karma”, the anti-internet anthem, was actually more popular AMONG THE NETIZENS than the actual casuals fans <3

re: appropriation of memes: one simply had to cast one look at Francesco’s act and be reminded of the DICKS FOR HARAMBE!! Movement. Seriously,

That said, while all these little ironies are funny, they aren’t what caused Francesco’s tumble outside of the top five. That honour has to be slapped onto greater ironies behind his final performance. I mean,

The fuck are you wearing? WHY are you doing the mannequin challenge? WHY are you karate-chopping the fucking AIR?? WHY DID YOU CUT OUT YOUR SECOND VERSE FOR ANOTHER HELPING OF CHORUS???

I can seriously not believe that an entrant whose appeal was based on their intelligence willingly dumbed themselves down into a mess of stale memebase platitudes and hamfisted acting. This is the same sort of “let’s assume the audience is too stupid to get our point so show them the simplified version instead” attitude which has irreparabily soured American reality television, turning Survivor into an idol-ridden chore and BBUS into the worst television programme of all times.

Thus, the most delicious irony of them all was that instead of breaking stereotypes, Frances&Co ENFORCED them, causing the westerner’s karma they so tried to warn us against to catch up with them and punt their asses out of the top five. NAMASTÉ, BITCHES.

This all to explain to you (and mostly, to myself) why I can’t rank them any higher or lower than eighth. Personally, I STILL fucking love Franesco as a human (”TAAAAARTLE” but also his postcard in which all of his different personae tried to order a bowl of spaghetti <3 and of course his antropomoric ferret self <3),

Still has da “Sex Appeal” (sex appeal)

and I still adore this song and the ensemble of it all and I still wish he had won instead of Salvador. If only because it is infinitely more preferable to turn into an arrogant overdog before you win, rather than after. ;-)

Blake - i keep reading funny things or spot a hot guy or something n go to message you but realise i can’t. i rly made my life a lot less interesting huh!! becoming friends with you was probably the best experience for me of this game. i really hope that voting you out doesn’t change our relationship and we can still be friends and talk heaps, and watch horror movies, and be mean to people. HAHHAHA. i love you lots!!!

Blake: You are such a great guy and an awesome player! From being the only two from Sima that stuck together at the first tribe swap, to getting back together on Thueban. You were a great ally and I was to have to cut ties.

Tim: Tim! You’re a really great guy and I still really loved the flag you made for the merged tribe challenge all on your phone, especially the beret and mustache :P Have fun at prom when the time comes and hopefully you found a nice tux!

Richie: You played hard right up to the end and I respect that! You played a great game. Keep dropping your Survivor/BBCan/BBUS knowledge and you’re bound to get a job on the spot! I guarantee it!! Haha Remember, you’re a survivor of grad school, no matter how long you were in it

Dani: You played an awesome game but I guess the odds just weren’t on your side in the end. I wish you the best of luck with your goal of getting on Survivor! :) I’m sure you’ll get on it, just got to keep on trying. I can’t wait to see you on my TV screen.

JG: We often kept our chats to game talk and I felt like we had a really good bond and shared a similar mindset in terms of threats and allies. I was sad to see you get voted out and wish we could have played together for longer. Keep on killing it at Overwatch for me and I’ll keep on killing on Mario Kart for you :)

Raffy: Raffy! You were definitely a character from the moment we interacted right until the very end. Causing tribe drama by forfeiting that challenge was something I’ll never forget. Good luck with the rest of high school and keep enjoying those video games.

AnnMarie: Look at you causing drama with a MedEvac! Haha I’m glad to hear that you were okay. Best of luck with school and make sure to take the time to destress once in a while. You honestly won me over when I saw that you chose Michaela as your picture haha

Andreas: I’m sorry to hear about the frustration you had during the early portion of the game. It was nice to connect with another non-american player! Hopefully your job search went well and your fun interview turned out for the best!!!

Elliot: You were so great! I’m glad we shared a lot of same opinions and it was always great to get my frustration out and screaming into the void with you when needed. You were somebody I saw myself aligning with before you got voted out and that tribal really sucked.

Bryan: We never got to chat much sadly simply because we were never on the same tribe, except for the One World twist. You’re obviously a huge presence in these games which is something to be respected. It would have been cool to play alongside you and learn a bit of your skills. Hopefully see you in the next one!

Akito: We never really talked much, and I blame my busy work schedule for that, but I remember suffering through the duolingo challenge with you from beginning to end. Talking about our progress and how much we didn’t want to do it anymore. Sorry for accidentally congratulating you for getting the highest score only to immediately realize I misread the results haha

Eric A: All the way back to the original Sima tribe. I had a great time shit talking about people who spell their name as Erik over the more superior Eric. But I’m sure we weren’t bias or anything haha We never went far together but I enjoyed the time we had early on in the game,

Matt J: I’m sad that I never actually met in the game. As a first time player myself, I was excited to chat with you. I hope your early elimination won’t stop you from playing again in the future!

Becca: It was sad to see you go home first :( I hope you had a good time throughout your time in the game and hopefully we’ll actually cross paths one of these days.

Blake- ohhhhhh my god. i love you so much and everyone knows who already really won this game (you) even without the actual title! can’t believe you were done like that and if you play other survivor games (or real survivor) you’re gonna win! Tim- we didn’t talk much but i really like how you never gave up even when you had like 0 hope. Richie- we didn’t talk much like at all but you’re obviously vvv smart and was always on the top for challenges. Dani- you really were the queen of surviving tribal council and i fully respect your gameplay and you turned into the threat pretty quick! JG- we’ve had our differences but now i really appreciate and respect you!! so glad we got these chances to talk lol! i’ll be rooting for you your next game lol!

Raffy- it was nice talking to you for the short period we did. sorry it ended so shortly but threats can’t stay threats!!!

Annmarie- idk what to say like you flipped on me and after bryan was out you were basically nonexistent Andreas- so you voted for me and that’s completely cool i feel for your awful timezone situation and how you played even with the struggle!

Elliot- i don’t think we were ever on a tribe together but i heard enough about you from blake to feel like we were tbh Bryan- …… i mean the first time didn’t work but the second time was a charm?? Akito- idk you just really tried to throw me under the bus which is kind of an awful thing to do but look who’s here now taquito Eric A- ya know this was my first attempt at trying something and it didn’t work out agdbd but rip to you i really tried
