WAIT WAIT if wars is exiled from his own home ,,,, the amount of dread. he would feel when LU is over and the found family is unfounded my god . like yes, he still wouldn't regret it bc it happened over him standing up for ledge, but that opens up the problem of homelessness and not to mention the spiral he'd probably go down from losing the family he's grown so used to having by his side. from how you've said it, im guessing he really has nobody to lean back on in his own time. i can see him digging his own way out and still finding a way to live happily but the way you've set it up makes at least the first few months for wars post-LU hurt and i am here for it <33

WIGGLES WIGGLES RUNS AROUND IN CIRCLES i actually have . an lu ending established in my head. i wont ramble abt it here cuz i don't wanna stray from ur ask but could y'all possibly indulge me sometime and let me ramble abt the Literal Best Case Scenario that will indeed give wars a very happy ending . it's my beloved ranch au and i cherish it deeply looks at u all like a pathetic little wet dog that's begging for scraps

BUT IF UR HERE FOR HURT,,,, i think i have some. in my head this is sort of a What If scenario—horrible-no-good-terrible-worst-case scenario—cuz i'm a little bitch boy who can't handle unfounded family and ill sob for three days straight if it ever happens for real but i can destroy him in hypothetical scenarios . for the funsies

(warning for unfounding the found family . and also additional stuff in the tags)

he Would be homeless and honestly he'd be damn hard-pressed to find any inn or business who would allow him service. imagine: he's just said goodbye to the chain and he's an absolute wreck—emotionally exhausted and Yeah rly fuckin hopeless, and he trudges to the nearest town he can find and discovers that 1) everybody he sees looks at him w malice, and 2) all of the business owners in town Refuse service to him

he discovers that somehow, at some point, false word had gotten out that their hero "abandoned" them. the stories r all different, and wars has no idea how they originated—some of them claim he simply quit and left, some say he Attacked The Queen and went rogue, some call him a traitor and accuse him of working with and fleeing to other countries, and some think he's Dead

and that . is a fucking slap to the face. he's been training 24/7 since he was 9 years old, put up w the abuse and neglect from his shitty father all the while, risked his life every day when promoted to captain to defend this kingdom from enemies and traitors alike, and when his people abandon him, they accuse him of treason and say he left his home to rot.

he walks through the streets of this town and most families are ushering their children into houses bc they heard the one-man army hero has gone mad. some of the more hostile, up-front people take him head on, spout death threats at him, swipe at him w blades and torches. he can't escape into a building bc no owner will let him in. he Has to flee

and u can imagine how the rest of his days go. search for a town, get chased out, camp in the woods and survive on scraps and dirty river water until he can find another town that prolly Won't sell him anything. he's fucked. he's truly and royally Fucked.

occasionally, he's saved by a town or two that leans toward the other side of things and some people don't believe the stories. some people think he was wronged, some believe he was Murdered, some think he simply fuckin retired, it varies. they're usually nicer to him, sometimes indifferent. the kinder people take him in, give him clean clothes and a warm meal and let him stay at the inn at a discount and sometimes even for free, if he looks particularly ragged or starved (he . is indeed lookin a little thin). he makes sure to thank them plenty

one time, he's invited into a nice family's house and they cook a hearty meal for him, offer a guest bed to rest in. and then they try to kill him in his sleep.

he doesn't take any handouts after that.

it takes a while—and i mean a while—to find somebody who's willing to let him rent a property or stay at an inn for an extended period of time. most people r wary of him, and since they've all heard the stories of how unstoppable he is, to regular old people he now seems like a monster. eventually though, he does find a place and folk who don't think he's all bad that'll let him stay if he pays well. he has plenty of money—he just hasn't been Allowed to spend any of it

that whole other ask ? the whole Point of the scarf deal, and what it symbolizes ? it's . kinda shredded into pieces in this scenario. yes, he did get better from his time in the war and Yes, the scarf still represents him finally finding a family to love and happiness to be had, but . now that's gone. his family is Gone. literally all that he has left is his mother's scarf, and even what it represents feels,,,,,,,,, soiled

he can't even visit his mother's grave. the cemetery is in castle town. he's been robbed of Literally Everything

i like to think he'd get better. but honestly ? that's . so much on him. all that on Such a sensitive and sweet person is a lot. i feel like he'd be miserably unhappy and hopeless for . a long time

- i really don’t have an idol....i guess the closest i could think of is someone i look up to and that’s my senior english teacher. she had been through so much and still was the kindest woman i’ve ever known 🤧

What advice do you have about tagging? Cause I feel like that courtesy is starting to turn into another Holy War too and I don't like it. (Ie: if you didn't choose to warn for every aspect of the content you created, it's now Open Season on you and your fic. It's okay for Antis to come for you bc you were a Mean Evil Person who didn't Use Enough Tags.) What happened to Choose Not To Warn as a valid warning??

This is an interesting topic tbh, and it’s getting more heated because on tumblr, post tags also function as community spaces. (I’m not really going to address the ‘do you tag the ship if it’s a negative depiction’ debate here, but I have other asks about that.)

let’s be real: anti-shippers have absolutely noticed that non-antis advocate heavily for fic warnings. They personally would rather that content that needs warnings not exist at all, but because many people who don’t agree with antis do agree with warnings, they will exploit that. two easy ways to antis exploit warning systems:

going into a warning tag and harassing the creators of works in the tag, ie going into the ‘noncon’ tag and messaging the creators to tell them their work contains and normalizes rape.

going after creators for not using the 'right’ warnings, ie: two characters have sex while drunk & no regrets. The creator tags it 'dubcon’ to be safe, but someone starts a dogpile because the warning should have been for 'noncon’.

It’s very much a 'damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ situation. You can never win with antis: they will only be satisfied if your content ceases to exist entirely. (don’t bother to try to make them happy.)

What happened to Choose Not To Warn as a valid warning??

so for those who don’t use AO3: Archive of our Own has one mandatory tag and several options for it. we’re only concerned with the last two:

Major Character Death: one of the main characters of this story dies.

Underage: underage characters doing nsfw things.

Rape/Noncon: sexual acts are committed with someone whose consent is questionable, not given, or denied. (imho, this is a warning I would also use on dubcon. your mileage may vary.)

Graphic Depictions of Violence: graphic depictions of physical violence may make for distrubing imagery.

No Archive Warnings Apply: if your fic doesn’t contain a main character death, underage characters engaging in sexual acts, rape/noncon/dubcon, or graphic depictions of violence, you can indicate it by checking this tag.

Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings: this fic may contain character death, underage sex, noncon, or graphic violence, or it may not. the creator has elected to not warn for this content, so the reader proceeds at their own risk.

If you click on a fic with 'no archive warnings apply’, you can be sure the fic won’t have character death, underage sex, rape, or severe violence. if you click on a fic with 'choose not to warn’, you can’t be sure the fic won’t have any of the above potentially upsetting content.

Unfortunately, many people either don’t realize there’s a difference or choose to ignore it.

'why even have the option to not warn, though?’ because there are some reasons why a writer might want you to proceed with caution but not want to give specifics:

a warning would give away a major plot point of the story/they don’t want to spoil any part of the fic with a warning

they would rather the fic not appear in the warning tags

they would prefer to warn in their own words in the author’s note or summary

they’re not sure if archive warnings apply but want to be on the safe side

they just don’t want to warn

(fun fact corner~!: tagging fics with content warnings more specific than 'contains slash’ or '18+ only’ is more or less a post-internet fandom expectation. It wasn’t until 1999-ish that readers seemed to expect warnings for upsetting content and we’ve been wanking about them ever since. (for funsies, here’s a timeline of fandom meta about warnings; the earliest content is from an alt.tv usenet archive, posted in 1997.) tagging/warning is a fairly ubiquitous practice now, and I am of the opinion it’s better to warn than not, but warnings are still optional and AO3 honors that.)

That said: I personally think that 'choosing not to warn’ on tumblr is rude and/or potentially dangerous because tumblr doesn’t function well as a content archive. Unlike AO3, tumblr is terrible at content filtering. tumblr mobile doesn’t honor readmores (except in reblogs) and you can only search one tag at a time under most circumstances: therefore, things that are likely to be upsetting to a percentage of people should be warned for so that blacklists can catch it.

if you would prefer to not warn for content on tumblr, I’d recommend some of the following as possible workarounds:

flag the post as 'adult’ if appropriate, even if you choose to not include a warning.

explicitly mention that the work may have violence/abuse/noncon/etc but you’re choosing to not specify either way.

if possible, host the content off-site and provide a link.

alternatively, post your unwarned work to a blog that you’ve flagged as unsearchable, and therefore won’t show up in the 'search’ function.

another long post (should I give up on trying for brevity?), but here’s the short version:

tl;dr 1: antis often act in bad faith and it’s impossible to please them. tagging is just another excuse for coming after works they don’t like. tag at your own discretion and weigh negative feedback on its merits, not its emotion.

and tl;dr 2: choosing to not warn is still a valid option but people forget it’s a thing and get burned by it, so it’s best to be really clear about it (and if you’re a consumer, pay attention if someone says they’re abstaining from warnings!)

final note: please enjoy this 2006 LJ post explaining that fiction doesn’t have to be moral, depiction does not condone real behavior, nobody is harmed in the making of a fanwork and censorship is not the answer. 11 years of the same wank! some of the participants in today’s discourse were literally still in diapers.

pug raids: a true story

i pug a lot, which basically means i set up or join raids with mostly random people and sometimes we kill stuff. also means that sometimes it's hella dodgy.

so enjoy this small collection of things™ that have happened:

me, solo healing: okay so you guys need to stack on me or else you'll die lol

tempest: okay don't let me die

-we enter the boss-

tempest, standing literally across the arena: i'm downed, wtf. kick the healer.

(a bit long) -i join a vg training run for funsies. no tag, so i tag up and give lieut to the person running it-

me: who's tanking

tank: i am

-i now realise that the tank is a ventari revenant with 2300 toughness (an absurd amount)-

me: casually suggests that the tank swap classes and i play chronotank

-swaps occur, we go in. vg aggros to a reaper. it's the leader. we /gg-

me: yo what's your toughness

leader: 2000

-leader then refuses to lower toughness or swap classes (they legit had other viable classes)-

me: ...k, we'll try this rev tank i guess

-group messes up every mechanic despite everyone being in discord and supposedly being at little exp or at least knowing the mechanics-

me: begins explaining mechanics to try and get things happening

leader: gets audibly angry and yells at me bc we're taking too long and he wants to start another pull

me: bye lol

-i start a slothasor pug raid-

me: pls join discord!! ty

group: joins me: starts assigning roles and stuff, talking in discord

warrior: freaks out when he realises i'm a girl, leaves discord and drops squad

(personal fave) -i join a gorseval raid, everyone is talking in ts-

commander: okay guys, check your food let's go!

group: goes in, everything is great.

-suddenly we hear one of the tempests talking to someone because they're on voice activation-

commander: hey man your mic is on, mute pls

tempest: doesn't respond

-this guy full on is having a fight with his gf while we're raiding. he just kept going. we wipe-

tempest: gtg gf aggro tempest: leaves

-i start up vg training for funsies-

me: okie guys pls link your gear and we'll get started. gotta make sure we're all #ready2raid

half the squad: links rares/weird stats/ stuff with no sigils or runes

me: slowly starting to school™ these youngsters

me: gets three whispers at the same time, all saying "wow you're really patient"

-late night raids, escort pops up in lfg. i join-

me: voice comms? commander: ya ~link~

-i join discord, assuming it's all americans bc that's just how things are-

commander, in discord: has a heavy queensland accent

other people in discord: various other australian accents

-i look at the guild tag. it's nine [KA] Knights Australia people and me-

me: ACCENT INTENSIFIES

-i join a gorseval pug-

commander: y o u h a v e t o t a l k l i k e t h i s

me: l o l k

me: but fr what class do you want

commander: kicks me

me, whispering commander: why'd you kick me

commander: y o u d i d n t t a l k l i k e t h i s

-just finished vg, about to do gorseval-

condi reaper: hey i don't have any other classes can i still come

me: ya sure gorseval is ez pz

-comp is now mirror, with 2 condi reapers and 2 tempests-

warrior, spamming the squad chat: why are we running reapers

me: bc one person can't play anything else, it's fine mi amigo

warrior: keeps spamming the same question

me: it's no big deal we're doing updraft anyways

warrior, whispering me (word for word): kick the fucking reaper you imbecile

-vg training (as you can see i like training)-

reaper: i'm just letting y'all know i don't run the meta, so don't get upset about it i don't want y'all crying to your mammas about how i suck

chrono, interrupting: dude nobody complained chill

reaper: you shut the hell up i didn't ask for your opinion

me: woah guys i don't want drama calm down

reaper: drops squad

ALSO SOME COOL STORIES

-joined a pug wing 2 clear, ended up being run by some peeps in my raid guild-

commander: i'm running a dps meter, whoever is best dps in your class gets a free dye!

-we enter the fights. each time we wipe ppl help each other out and teach little tips and tricks. everyone, even the pugs, accept criticism and make jokes-

commander: good job!! very smooth kill. highest dps was x, with 29k, next was y with 24k, then... (etc)

winner: ayy lmao

commander: proceeds to mail everyone, even people who didn't win, an uncommon dye bc he thought we were all lovely

-i join a xera raid-

me: what class

commander: chrono

me: loads in, walks up to the platform

commander: HOLD

commander: THE

commander: HECK

commander: UP

commander: swaps to her chrono

-our toons look EXACTLY the same, same armor and weapon skins, same face/hair, literally the same dyes, only thing different was the glow (salads)-
