throughout the whole conversation in chapter 15 where cabanela reveals that he’s been fighting so hard to move up in the ranks because it’ll give him more access to the resources he needs to investigate temsik and possibly save jowd, i couldn’t help wondering… did jowd know? did he suspect, or had he become so jaded that he truly believed even his partner and best friend had turned against him? did he intentionally push cabanela away in fear that he’d uncover the truth? after so many years of being partners, it’s hard for me to believe that jowd really thought cabanela believed he was guilty, but some of his dialogue suggests otherwise. much like lynne, he implies to sissel that cabanela has changed - that he’s become cold and heartless, that he only cares about his own success now.

and god that hurts!!! cabanela sacrificed everything for five years and everyone turned against him for it, even the very person he was trying to save. i often think about how miserably lonely those years must have been for jowd and for yomiel, but how lonely they must have been for cabanela, too. “incredible determination” is right.

(it’s also all the more ironic and painful that in chapter 15, yomiel then uses that reputation cabanela has so painstakingly worked for… to order jowd’s execution, the very thing cabanela has been trying so furiously to avoid…)

i’m replaying ghost trick and i’ve become convinced that it’s a game you need to play twice in order to get everything it has to offer. i knew after my first playthrough that there had been a lot of foreshadowing leading up to the big reveals, but playing it for a second time i’m finding so many things that went completely over my head before and oh my god it’s so good

case in point: this exchange in chapter 9, where sissel and jowd are talking about cabanela:
