i don't look at fandom stuff in general and especially not something big like dungeon meshi

but if people are hating on Kabru for his anime appearances so far that's WILD

because like Shuro, sure, the main thing he's done is be kind of a dick in a way that's going to hit the wrong buttons for neurodivergent people

(i mean, if you think about his situation it's pretty clear why he might not have been inclined to tell Laios his actual feelings beyond just "it would be impolite" imo - yeah the guy alone in a foreign country should tell his co-worker and kind of boss he doesn't like him that much, sure - but even then like. he's still kind of a jerk.)

but i can't imagine seeing Kabru and Laios not getting along as an allistic and autistic thing??

like... there's clear and obvious parallels between how Kabru thinks of people and how Laios thinks about monsters. that's clearly the intent behind like, half of Kabru's character, even down to him not understanding monsters in the same way Laios doesn't understand people.

and like, Laios's thing with monsters gets taken as an obvious autism thing - which i agree with - so surely Kabru is like... come on. i mean even parallels aside that's just NOT the typical way to think about other people! especially considering he's clearly folding things like "knowing major human weakpoints" in with "knowing how to talk to humans" - he's got a thing about knowing things people in generai, not just "he's good at talking to people"

see also this panel later on where he literally calms himself down by just. listing major cities to himself.

...i kind of forgot what i was going to say while looking for that panel again, but the important thing is: what's going on with Kabru and Laios is like, pretty clearly ''two incompatible kinds of autism'' to me, or at least neurodivergent

(and it's kind of funny to me that Kabru's kind of got the traits of quote-unquote "girl autism", which... i mean it kind of makes the issue with that effectively being "autism where they felt more pressure to be good at social interaction" clear, but that's a whole other can of worms.)

and y'know, i don't want to be too harsh because Kabru's less like, obviously autistic than Laios. but also. the amount of people i've seen who will gladly talk about how "every character in dunmeshi is autistic" and then suddenly forget that attitude when it comes to one of the most prominent brown characters... i'm not willing to say it's unrelated either!

but yeah point is i pretty strongly interpret Kabru as also being autistic, and most of his misreading of Laios being basically like, applying the ways he's learned to read the average allistic person onto someone who doesn't map onto those behaviors. which y'know, some people don't seem to recognize that as a thing that happens (want to believe all autistics get along or w/e), but if you're ever been around a sufficiently large group of neurodivergent people it's so fucking common. i mean he's still wrong about Laios, but like, i get it.

If I was mikan and I received anything resembling an apology from Saionji, I'd throw her ass and throw Mahiru's too for good measure. I think an apology after all this time would be hollow and not exactly satisfactory.

I'd like to think that the Danganronpa Anthology story showing Mahiru taking care of Mikan and making sure she gets included in the girls' activities is canon. So I don't know that Mikan would have adequate reason to throw (either literally or verbally) Koizumi. I mean, if we're going to start throwing everybody who failed to step up and stop Hiyoko's behavior... that line is forming around the block. :(

But as for Hiyoko, I think the truth is that Mikan is quick to blame herself for the treatment she receives. She often believes she must deserve it. And even if she gets past that unhealthy way of thinking, I think she's just too kind-hearted to bear much of a grudge. So I imagine she'd be very quick to accept any apology.

But STILL.

Do I think that Mikan refusing to accept any apology from Saionji would be kinda out of character for Mikan? Yes.

Do I deeply want to see it happen anyway? Also Yes.
