Hi! I have been learning Chinese for 8 months now, and even though I'm doing okay on HSK3 level, i feel like I'm in need of more content for this level that i can consume and practice. A lot of the shows and tv programs are still too difficult for me and i only understand around 40% of words (at most 😆).

I already watched everything on YouTube channels like Mandarin Click or Mandarin Corner etc, but in general i cant find that much for low levels. Do you happen to know where I could find some more? It could be texts, stories or videos, just below HSK4.

First of all, great progress!

I would continue just watching some programs for the exposure, even if you can't quite keep up yet.

Aside from apps and standard learning material (which I assume you already have resources for), I think for HSK 3 which I assume is beginner/intermediate, you might just have to bite the bullet and follow along with elementary school content, even if it's boring.

You can probably also find children's programming on Bilibili. I gave a rec in this ask of some Chinese cartoons to check out. Make sure to check out any recs in the notes as well!

This playlist with videos aimed toward Chinese 1st graders. It is a little dry, but the teacher speaks clearly and fairly slowly and from the first few minutes, I think it should at least be good listening practice as well as reading practice with anything visual. A lot of the first videos go over things you should already know since the videos are aimed at teaching Chinese children to read, so you may just want to skip to part 43, 课文1, where the videos will begin class readings of elementary texts.

Check out this site for scans of pages from the Ministry of Education's textbooks. The link should go straight to the page for first grade, but if you find that too easy, the menu across the top of the page goes up to 6th grade. There are just one or two years' books for each grade, I think (you'll have to click around a look). The textbooks contain short stories with pinyin guides.

This youtube channel has Chinese nursery rhymes if you don't mind the ugly ass art

Generally speaking, I think after HSK3/HSK4 is where your language skills will really see improvement so when you're still starting out there's not as much material because that's when it's expected that you just have your head stuck in a textbook.

You might find it useful to give yourself some longer term projects or challenges; translation is a good way to really spend some time thinking about the language, so it might help to find a song you really like and try translating it line by line with a dictionary. Pick a pop ballad or something that sounds cute and simple because other genres like gufeng will probably be too difficult. Later, when your language skills have improved some more, you can try translating the same song again and see if you decide to make any different translation choices based on new insights.

Why? What happened?

It feels like I’m whining, but I’m genuinely upset. I'm in a pretty bad place mentally right now because of personal stuff, and the state of the blog is only making it worse. For a while now I have been noticing I don't get the responses I need to stay motivated to write. I have talked about it, saying how I need people to be more interactive and listen more (read my rules, give me their opinions when I ask for them...), but it’s not getting better. There’s always a few lovely people, but having 7k followers and out of them only maybe a couple responds to me... it’s just so discouraging.

I had decided to stop worrying about the little reblogs and attention my writings get lately, but even then I've been getting a lot of requests that don't follow my rules and as stupid as that sounds it's very stressful for me. It makes me feel like no matter how hard I work to write requests people don't even care enough to spare a minute to read my rules and respect my wishes. They only care about getting their request written for them and that’s it. I do this for free, it’s not my job, and lately it's bringing me more stress than joy.

For now I think I need to get off Tumblr for a bit, at least for today, to clear my head.

Hi! I don't know who else to ask but you seem to know a lot about Ao3 and I have a question I can't find answer to. I post fics on Ao3 and in the notes say "you can visit me at (tumblr blog name) too." And on this tumblr I have a link to Ko-Fi in my description. Is it okay or should I delete it?? Please, I don't know who to ask!

You can have links to your tumblr on your Ao3, even if your tumblr links to a place like ko-fi. You just cannot directly link to ko-fi from your Ao3 :)

Do you know how many youjo senki light novel volumes are adapted by the anime?

Sorry for the late response on this! The anime does light novels 1-3. The movie adapted the 4th one. So the anime and the movie combined have gotten through 4 volumes!

There’s a long way to go, considering there are 11 volumes out so far and I don’t think Carlo Zen is done writing yet. I really hope it all gets adapted to anime/movies over time!

I don't know if that's the case in your Revenant series, but I have noticed you have a link in part 2 of it. Some links on tumblr make the posts impossible to find by people through the 'search', so that might be the cause of the poor reception? I had that happen to my fics too a year ago.

I wouldn't know about the links cause I've always done the links. It's just the fact that I posted part 2 of Revenant and no one even liked it and then I started to receive hate for the series both on anon and on pm. I had to delete so much of the hate that night and it was ridiculous. Im sure I'm probably over reacting but I've got to much on me right now and this was the reason why I had left tumblr earlier this year and I wasn't ready to come back when I did but circumstances required me too and its all just been to much.

Do you like Detroit Become Human?

I do despite never actually playing the game. I can’t afford a PS4 at the moment, but I am saving up for one (particularly the Kingdom Hearts one that got shown of at E3). I have watched a load of video's on Youtube though, hopefully I will get to play the game sometime next year when I (hopefully) get a console.
