2 and a half weeks until JC passes Cactus Jack!
It took me a little bit to figure out what you were referencing, but yes, Jimmy Carter will pass John Nance Garner as the longest-living President or Vice President in American history on September 18th. And if he is still with us on October 1st, Carter will be the first President or Vice President in American history to celebrate their 99th birthday.
And since I'm a huge dork who finds this stuff interesting, here's the big, complete list of longest-living to shortest-living Presidents and Vice Presidents in American history: (Presidents are in bold text, Vice Presidents are in italics, and those who served as both POTUS and VP are in bold italics.) Nancy didn’t seem right that morning.
And yet she appeared to be. On the outside, picking a flaw started a battle you couldn’t win. Skin smooth and porcelain, lips coated in fuschia lip gloss and clothes pressed and form fitted. Not a single mark out of place: typical for the perfect Nancy Wheeler. She greeted Mrs. Nelson with a chipper ‘good morning’ before sitting down to your left, interlocked hands resting atop her purple binder. You couldn’t help your lingering stare, brows cinched together at her peculiar behavior.
Perfect, too perfect.
And it only continued throughout the day. At lunch, a quaint brown bag holding her food along with a simple post-it note from her mother.
“Ugh. Why does she even bother with these? Shouldn’t she know I’m too old for notes.”
Her smile reached her eyes like usual, straight, white teeth revealing themselves through her lips. The whole table laughed like usual. Barb chuckled and agreed, as usual. What was it?
“I hope I do well on this test. I’ve been studying like crazy but, you never know with Mr. Davis.”
Typical Nancy, worrying about grades when she pushed all A’s. All you could do was nod. Surely she didn’t forget the events of the concert, did she? As you peeked at her profile, worries of the upcoming pop quiz spilling from her mouth, you figured perhaps, it’d be better if she didn’t remember.
…But then Tommy H. went missing.
Good riddance, honestly. But still weird.
He wasn’t found until after school hours, body absolutely bloodied and mangled from head to toe. Cops deemed it an animal attack, and how he’d been hollowed from inside out with vicious scratches and bite marks. Weird.
“Nance, did you see the news about Tommy? Didn’t you used to be friends with him?”
Her eyes averted from whatever magazine laid in her grasp to spare the TV a glance.
“Oh, yeah. It’s terrible what happened.”
If you weren’t so focused on the news you’d notice how nonchalant her expression was.
The next day, it was Keith.
The poor sod met the same gruesome end, destroyed body found in the forest just past the bleachers. It was all the school cared to gossip about now. It did unnerve you a little bit, truth be told. I mean, how could you study physics when two boys you ate in the same cafeteria with were just gutted from groin to sternum?
“This whole thing’s creeping me out.”
You found yourself playing into the gossip, too. Nancy rolled over from her back to face you directly, a grin tickling the ends of her glossed up lips.
“It is a little scary, isn’t it?”
Meeting her eye somehow stirred the sleeping butterflies in your stomach. The intensity she held rendered you breathless, completely contrasting the atmosphere with the topic at hand. Did she realize how close she was to you or was that unintentional.
Her finger traced the skin of your jaw before tucking a strand behind your ear, pink polished nails resting at the nape of your neck.
“Isn’t it funny how the boys disappearing are the most unappealing?”
Any type of retaliation, or comeback, or even a breath escaped you when her lashes flicked up and down, switching from your lips and back. What were you talking about again?
..The last one to disappear was Eddie Munson.
His death bit you the most. You liked him a little, having shared a couple classes with him and occasionally speaking about whatever. Nancy knew of your tiny crush, even teased you for it. Never in your life did you think you’d witness his demise.
A shattering pinch tugged at your chest as the news rolled the cops’ discovery, an announcement of an enforced curfew following right after. Nancy nestled herself right beside you, her left arm embracing your shoulders to bring you towards her. Her warmth lulled your cheek to rest on her, not noticing the way she practically beamed at the headline.
“It’s a shame. Eddie was actually decent looking.”
…You blinked a couple times.
“..What?”
All of a sudden, it clicked. Her odd, sunshine behavior, meshed with the random missings of boys from your school. Staring at her eye to eye, that damn perfect smile still on her face, it all made sense right then and there.
“...It’s a shame that he died rather quickly, too.”
You could barely breathe, the strength or urge to run far away from her freezing your body in a petrified state. Nancy’s arm found your back again, fingers pushing inwards to welcome you back into her affection.
It was her. All this time.
It was her.

That night Stevie, Eddie, Robin and Nancy were going to celebrate Halloween the traditional way: at a stranger’s house with questionably mixed alcohol and themed costumes. Nance had flown in and was spending some time in Hawkins with her family but would drive down that evening. The girls had convinced Eddie that, if they went with more laid back costumes that year, the next year could be a blow out. Eddie agreed but also was already deep into plans for the next three years.
After her super short shift at the bar, Stevie had to go grab Robin. They agreed on dressing as the 'Breakfast Club' on the grounds that it was retro, iconic, and the costumes would be comfortable. Their 'Breakfast Club' had Nancy as Ally Sheedy, Eddie as Judd Nelson, and Stevie as Molly Ringwald. Robin had not yet finished her Emilio Estevez outfit, so Stevie was taking her to Goodwill to finish finding her the right fit for Estevez's jock character.
"I'd lend you my old letterman's jacket but it's the wrong color, and you know Eddie likes wearing it."
Robin snorted. "Oh I know. The other day he was bitching about not having your class ring to match."
Stevie felt herself flush and tucked her head down as she moved through the racks. "Really?" Not having got one her senior year suddenly seemed foolish.
"Yeah. You guys are disgusting." She grinned up at her, rolling her eyes.
Stevie's hands settled on an old, faded Notre Dame letterman jacket, blue and tan. "Hey Robs, we got a winner."

Terence Etc. - V O R T E X - hip hip, r&b, jazz, and whatever else works for each song, i.e. a perfect match for the Brainfeeder label
First introduced into the public eye as a filmmaker with his 2012 Sundance Film Festival debut “An Oversimplification of Her Beauty”, Terence Nance (also known as Terence Etc. in more musically aligned spheres) exists on the threshold of artistic form. Terence has built a reputation over the last decade as one of America’s most adventurous filmmakers and is perhaps best known for his Peabody Award-winning HBO series “Random Acts of Flyness”, a television program that he created, directed, starred in, edited, and scored in 2018. He is truly multidisciplinary. He draws. He writes. He sings. He plays the guitar. He builds things. He harbors in himself a great many possibilities, a great many realities that whirl about seeking expression and balance. It is this desire for balance—balance of life, balance of emotions, balance of energies within— that brought forth “V O R T E X”, his debut album. “V O R T E X is a sonic tool that I made so that I can play it for myself and balance my energy between masculine and feminine; destructive and creative; domination and submission; right and left; sun and moon; day and night: opposing energies generally,” explains Terence. “The album intends to use sound, melody, song, incantation, etc. to rebalance a bodyspirit through out the constant circular movement of life.” The album was written and produced by Terence, along with long time friends and collaborators: Solomon Dorsey, Nick Hakim and his brother Nelson Bandela. Most of the songs on the 11 track album are arranged as diptychs that swell and fold in on themselves in a dizzying oscillation. Terence is flirtatious in his lamenting, with a style that swells from suggestively oracular, to vaudeville, to your local battle of the bands. The record certainly defies easy categorisation but is forged with the same spirit of experimentation and adventure synonymous with Terence’s heroes and contemporaries, artists like Andre 3K, Solange, Serpentwithfeet, Nelson Bandela, Standing on the Corner, Earl Sweatshirt, Nick Hakim, and Moses Sumney and indeed, Brainfeeder’s illustrious founder Flying Lotus. V O R T E X also draws on the literature of Louise Erdrich and Toni Morrison, as well as the drawings of Ruby Amanze whose voice is featured on the album.

Wayne Nance
Tumblr media
Wayne Nathan Nance, also known as the Missoula Mauler, was a suspected serial killer from Montana, USA. Murders linked to him typically had gunshot wounds as the cause of death.
Nance is believed to have raped and murdered a middle-aged woman in 1974. The victim was shot and tied to a chair. Nance was an acquaintance to the victim's son and was seen in the backyard around the time of the crime, he was questioned but no firm evidence could link him to the murder. Years later evidence was found in Nance's home linking him to the murder.
Between the killing in 1974 and 1977, Nance served in the Navy. Officers speculated he may have committed more crimes while travelling for his military service.
In January 1980 the body of 15-year-old Devonna Nelson was found, Nance was suspected to be the killer but was not definitively linked. The body was badly decomposed.
Another body was found, a 16-year-old woman called Marcella Bachmann. Strong evidence suggests Nance was the killer; hair similar to Marcella's was found in Nance's home. Marcella was also a runaway who was known to have been 'taken in' by Nance.
On 9th September 1985, the skeleton of a woman was found. Her identity has never been established. Nance is the only suspect in this murder.
On 12th December 1986, Michael and Teresa Shook were tied up in their home and shot. Items stolen from the Shook residence were later found in Nance's home.
On 3rd September 1986, Nance attempted to murder Doug and Kris Wells. Nance asked if he could borrow a flashlight and after being invited inside tied up the couple, he stabbed Doug and left him to die in the basement before forcing Kris upstairs to rape her. Also badly injured, Doug managed to free himself and load a bullet into a rifle. Nance and Doug struggled and Doug shot and incapacitated Nance. Doug and Kris made full recoveries, Nance died the following day.
After the attempted double murder authorities investigated Nance and linked him to other crimes. Due to his death, he was never formally questioned or charged.

DC Showcase - Arqueiro Verde (2010):
Canário Negro aparece no curta DC Showcase: Arqueiro Verde.
Sua estréia acontece no teaser do episódio "Night of The Huntress!" e, desde então, fez aparições em "Mayhem of the Music Meister!", "The Golden Age of Justice!", "The Siege of Starro!", "The Mask of Matches Malone!" e participações especiais menores em vários outros episódios.

Movie Review | Cheerleader Camp (Quinn, 1988)
Tumblr media
What if I told you there was a low budget slasher movie starring Jami Gertz, Neve Campbell, Kristen Wiig, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr. (but old asshole Randall Hank who says crap on Fox News, not cool rockin’ Randall Hank whose rowdy friends are coming over tonight), and horror movie superstar Jack Nance? Sounds like a stacked if pretty weird cast for a slasher movie right? Sounds too good to be true? Well probably not, but anyway that was a lie, as none of those people are in the movie. For you see, Cheerleader Camp is a movie of excruciating enough boredom to inspire me to play my usual game of guessing which better known stars the actors resemble. As you’ve probably guessed, this is a slasher set in the titular camp for cheerleaders (it is not a “camp for clowns”, as one character clarifies, although that would likely be a more entertaining movie). “Jami Gertz” is the brillo-pad-haired heroine, a cheerleader who has bad dreams for which she takes pills and who comes off as pretty self-centred. Much more my type is “Neve Campbell”, who has the hapless job of being the mascot, which involves trying to eat a hot dog while in a gator costume and later breakdancing during the mascot competition. (I found out later that she’s the star of the Breakin’ movies, which I have yet to see but have no doubt are easier to sit through than this.) Given that she’s completely drenched after her routine, she’s easily the hardest working member of the cheer squad, the rest of whom are also excessively permed like the heroine, including Teri Weigel, who is in fact the real Teri Weigel (hence the lack of quote marks). As far as Weigel’s filmography goes, this definitely is less enjoyable than Marked for Death, Predator 2 and probably some of her...other work (I write while shifting my eyes). “Kristen Wiig” is the cheer instructor/judge who has it in for “Neve Campbell” (the eating of the hot dog while wearing a gator mask was not voluntary) and later dons a cheerleader costume to get it on with “Jack Nance’s” cop. "Nance” might be the least objectionable male character, as the rest are all pigs, including staff members played by “Willie Nelson” and “Hank Williams Jr.” who seem to spend more time creeping on the cheerleaders than doing their actual jobs. Even the male lead, in his unflatteringly mulleted glory, slaps “Neve Campbell’s” ass during a tense scene. But worst of all is his friend, who plays an unspecified role in the cheer squad and spends his time covertly videotaping or blatantly sexually harassing the ladies. In a profoundly unsettling scene, chastises his friend for not enjoying an illegally taped topless video of a recent murder victim. This is creepy as hell, and in a remotely realistic movie, this guy would definitely be the killer. Look, I gave this a shot because the cover promised campy fun, possibly involving a spooky skeletal cheerleader, which depressingly far from the truth. I also didn’t want to get shitfaced on a Monday night so I watched this sober, but I’m not sure how much booze I’d need to make this a tolerable viewing experience. The comic relief is fucking awful (and gross, as indicated above), the kills are lame and frequently done in ways to cheap out on effects work, the cheerleading routines are weak, and with the exception of “Neve Campbell”, the girls all have terrible hair. Skip this one, folks.
