Second piece in my series of human infrastructures unintentional effects on wildlife.
the photo I used as direct reference was taken by @strangebiology & used with permission! You can find the whole album on flickr here.
I fell in love with these pictures cause i just think there is such a beauty to them. But also it starts making you think more about human infrastructure.
Idk but i think a lot of us think about fences as benign in the landscape but working on this piece i started thinking more abt, what do fences keep in? What do they keep out? And what do they disrupt or harm? intentionally or not.
Way back in March I found a beautiful piece of art by @sixofclovers that I fell in love with. So after getting permission from them I created a pattern for personal use and just finished it! This is my second attempt at needle painting and I’m still getting used to color blending but I’m extremely proud of myself.
Notes of interest:
French Knots were used to make the Sherpa style of Caleb’s coat lining.
The thickest part of the piece is Essek’s collar, where six strands were used to give the fluffy illusion
After I created the pattern, I used my Cricut to draw the pattern onto the fabric.
35 different colors of DMC embroidery thread were used to make this piece.
I only stabbed myself 4 times (and drew blood) while stitching!
“Wool Painting” of Two Nude Female Figures by Swiss Artist Alice Bailly, ca. 1915. Medium is coloured wool yarn embroidered on off-white woven wool fabric.
“With her wool pictures, Alice (Marie-Louise) Bailly is one of the pioneers of textile art … From 1916 to 1924, around fifty “tableaux-laine” were created, pictures in which Bailly used needle and yarn instead of brush and oil paint.” via Museum of Design Zürich
